Smells great pastries and the sheepherds bread. Pastries are absolutely huge. Coffee is also very affordable, best to get the morning started

Excited to try the new bakery for lunch. Nevada Trip Tip was a ho hum chewy disappointment, definitely a hard pass. The saving grace was the wonderful lady who took the order in her stylish glasses so friendly and welcoming! And the fries were crunchy yet no Heinz tomato ketchup. The cakes at the entrance looked interesting. The Italian cookie was too sweet like dosing on spoonfuls of sugar. Salty and sweet a balance would have been nice. The raspberry center got stuck to the parchment paper bag. The Tiramisu was ok, nothing to write home about let alone finish. The extra hot latte was as expected. Extra Hot and delivered the caffeine dose needed. Ambiance is nice. We would have liked to be regulars. For the cakes or honey. Found the carne asada tacos at Centro market (first time) more delicious, 20 mins after sharing a sandwich here. Go there!

I've been told to try Schats by so many people and I can see why. Their service is so genuinely friendly. It's a cozy, clean environment with a small town feel. There are a few people set up on laptops working and others meeting for a quick coffee date. I love the overall vibe.

Stopped here to check out this well-known bakery. Lots of bread, pastry and sandwich options as well as fresh squeeze OJ, coffee, and tea drinks. Enjoyed the cheddar jalapeno bagel (but they ran out of cream cheese?) and cute banana marzipan. The cherry turnover was fine but not memorable. But what I really enjoyed was a pre-made "express" sandwich that had ham, cheese, and buttered bread. Completely delicious, and something I'd come back for. Also, picked up a jar of Scandinavian Delights orange marmalade ... my absolute favorite brand and a nice surprise to find on sale here. Despite a fairly busy morning, everything was clean, and we were able to find a table without a problem. Nice atmosphere and plenty of parking nearby. A little surprised there wasn't a breakfast menu, but will have to come back and explore more of the lunch menu options like the tri-tip sandwich.

Little quaint sandwich shop with some fair prices! Girlfriend and I stopped by here for lunch, because we were surprised to see a Schats bakery outside of California. I love Eric Schats bakery out in Bishop, CA, but this is one here is a little different. They're still related, but operating at a smaller scale. We had shared the pastrami sandwich, and enjoyed it! Everything tasted fresh and good came out quick. If you're looking for a good and quick bite, i definitely recommend come here. Plus, they also a nice selection of breads and desserts.

Always good food, and great pastry. Our favorite bread too! Attentive cashier and service in a small dining area.

Such a hidden gem! Northern Nevadans and locals alike know where to stop when looking for a special treat or sweet indulgence when in the area. Being from Reno, I always stop by Paul Schat's whenever I drive through Carson City to grab a bakery treat or fresh artisan bread for the upcoming week. The bakery offers a comfortable seating area and an array of freshly made sandwiches/burgers, breakfast & coffee, a WIDE array of baked goods, seasonal treats, cakes, artisan breads - you name it! The bakery is tucked away in the back of a shopping center and is open 7 days a week - 6am to 6pm! Definitely recommend the artisan breads, my family loves the artisan Sourdo & Asiago Romano cheese bread, coconut macaroons, croissants, array of coffee cakes, and strudels! We have yet to try something we do not enjoy. Definitely recommend if you are looking to fulfill a baked goods craving or looking for a unique local gift for friends and family.

Yummy honey bran muffins. How much would you pay for these??
    Rose B.

I sent my husband to this bakery earlier this week for their fresh baked blueberry & bran muffins. I ate the blueberry (dense, lacks flavor); but the honey bran was flattened on the top, gooey, it was burnt all the way around the edges and globs of honey were exposed. I could not believe he was actually charged money for that muffin. The whole lot should have been thrown out. I ended up with horrific abdominal pain in the hospital ER for better than four hours. I don't know what was wrong with those muffins but it's going to cost my family $2650 (out of pocket) for sampling them.

Came here for lunch when we were on the way to Lake Tahoe. It was in Carson city located inside a plaza. There was also a cafe on the side and when you go further down there's a counter to order sandwiches and food. The staff was helpful when we were deciding between 2 sandwiches. Facility was clean and felt homey inside. We got the Reuben stacker which has pastrami and sauerkraut. We shared so it was the perfect amount since it was a bigger portion. Overall delicious and perfect place to get a quick sandwich!

Pretty underwhelming! My first visit and disappointing sandwich! The tomato could not have been sliced any thinner, a single leaf of lettuce. I had high hope as I have heard Schats has excellent sandwiches, but for $12.95, I'll go to Jimmy John's instead!

Love looking at bakeries so came in and what a treat! Fresh crusty ciabatta rolls I can't wait to eat with salted butter! We also bought an almond bear claw. I can't wait to try it. They do have a larger one available for like $10. I would have bought it but afraid I would eat it all myself. Me and the hubby shared the rueben sandwich made in their pumpernickel rye bread . YUM!

Everyone was very kinda and helpful in here! It was also very clean and well stocked! Wonderful experience!!

1/19/2025: First-Born Daughter and I ate a couple pastries, drank coffee; the nut pastry was AWESOME!

Pricey but decent. If you want some good bread at a decent price, look on their day old rack, otherwise it seems too expensive for me.

Here is what we noticed: - It's a pretty unassuming place...we parked in the side lot and walked around to their main entrance. They even had some specials highlighted as we entered. - Inside there is lots of seating...when we arrived the front of the place was empty, but people were sitting there when we left and we noticed that it is much quieter in that section of the restaurant than in the main dining room. - As others have noted, chorizo is their specialty and it's in many of the dishes. And, it is worth it!...and, not spicy like you might think of chorizo. My wife and I ordered the Quesadilla and the Basque Omelette, and we split both (plus, we took some home too). Each dish was really good in its own right, and being able to have the chorizo prepared two ways was great. Their home fries were really tasty too. - Service was good....very attentive, especially considering that it took us a while to decide what to order given the breadth of the menu. - We paid cash because of their sign indicating that that was preferred. Bottom line: We'd go back to Villa Basque Cafe anytime we're in Carson City...next time, we'd like to try some of their lunch options!

Patty Melt - I was surprised my wife got this, but she enjoyed it. She did say it was very oily and messy. I forgot to try your homestyle spuds... Just means I need to come back. Ambiance - A good size dinner; see pictures. Cool decor. Semi open kitchen. Free standing, approximately two store fronts. Counter or table seating, all indoor. Plenty of mall parking. Open 7 days a week 6am to 2pm. Clean restrooms. Service - Just okay. It took a while for the waitress to acknowledge us. I know she was busy and I believe there were only two waitresses and one bus girl. But she literally walked by us 10 times without saying anything and with no eye contact, nothing. A simple, "I will be right with you" would have been nice. Once she got to our table, approximately 10 minutes later, it was a more positive experience. The one young bus girl is a hard worker and was nicer. Price - $24.20 + tip. Reasonably priced. Well in today's environment, it is inexpensive. Cash only (or checks); no credit or debit cards. They do have an ATM inside. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success 1980. And all your family's successes in the Bay Area, CA. See pictures and their decor.

We came for breakfast and we had a very simple order. It consisted of a breakfast burrito, Gold Latte, a coffee and a lemon poppy seed muffin. It shouldn't be too hard to fulfill this order right? Wrong! My breakfast burrito and Gold Latte came out first. The burrito was good and the Gold Latte was also tasty. The woman that dropped off my order asked if we had anything else coming. I told her we had ordered a lemon poppy seed muffin. She never came back. Another woman came over with a muffin but it was blueberry. Wrong again. At this point, we decided to skip the muffin and I requested my money back since I was getting frustrated. No apology either for not being able to get the order right. I love supporting a women owned business but I just found it hard to understand how a simple order could confuse so many people. Perhaps there is an issue between the front of the house and the kitchen?? Maybe it was an off day but it did not seem that way.
