Going downhill FAST! The last two times I have visited for lunch the service has been unbelievably poor. First time, I came with my brother, we ordered the same exact sandwich and it took nearly 40 minutes to get out food. Literally had to ask the waitress twice where our food was, felt bad asking the poor gal because I knew she had no control over it. This also would have been understanding had the place been packed, but no it was steady at best. The second time I called ahead for a to go order. The lady on the phone told me 20 minutes. Literally 20 minutes later I show up ask for my order. The lady says it not quite ready. So I wait another 15, then ask again. Lady goes to the back and looks around only to find that my order was taken by someone else?!? Like how does that happen? I had been there for over 20 minutes and you give my order away to someone else? After that I get asked "You can reorder but it will take at least 20-30 for us to make" hahaha legit thought she was joking..but she wasn't. She wanted me to reorder my sandwich and wait another 30 minutes to receive it and that being on top of the 40 minutes I had already waited. What kind of customer service is that? Instead of an apology and please wait the sandwich will be on us. I the customer get punished even harder for your mistake? I ended up politely refusing and leaving, I know others who would have created a scene but that's just not me. I doubt I will be coming back anytime soon. Which is quite a shame as I enjoyed this place. read more

Few things: I like that your consistent. I like your food. I do not like the fact that some of your sandwiches come with side but others don't, even though the price is about the same. That makes no sense and it extremely frustrating when half the table has sides and the others don't. Just be normal and put sides on all the sands please. I hate to say it but it's dumb that you don't and there is absolutely no justifiable reason why you can't. Also- your tritip sand seriously lacking. I've had that sandwich so many times and while the taste is good- it's almost always just bread. How hard would it be to actually put more lettuce and tomatoes on there? How hard would it be to put just a little more meat on it? You have a good following. I will still come into eat at your restaurant but I will continue to voice my frustration that you have a weak tritip sandwich and you don't put sides on all of the sandwiches. read more

I run a travel blog and love bakeries on my trips. My favorite is Schats in California. So much so that I mentioned them in my book. So, I was excited to find this one in Carson City. Sadly, the cheese bread I purchased yesterday was full of mold. When I went to return it today the lady remembered me from yesterday and was more than happy to exchange the loaf. Unfortunately, her manager said since I didn't have my receipt she could not help me and actually tired to give me back the moldy bread. I of course told her to just throw it away and walked out. It's a shame because I share all my travel adventures, and especially food finds, with my readers. I think I'll stick with Schats in California from now on. read more

This review is long over due. I've been buying Paul Schat's bread for my business for about 4 years now and have never had a bad experience ever! The ciabatta bread is very unique and my customers always compliment us on the taste and quality of the bread we serve. I've had the opportunity to eat at their restaurant in Carson City on a few occasions and everything that I've tried there has been spot on! Super tasty and obviously made from scratch. Just had a wonderful Father's Day having coffee and pastries with one of my daughters. You have to go and enjoy! By far one of the best I have been to for breads and pastries. We ended buying more for later, I will need to diet during the week, but all will be a eaten and will add to our delightful day enjoying our purchases with others at an invited barbecue. read more

Super super yummy. I got the schat burger and it was so light and fluffy. The meat was juicy and the flavoring wasnt over powered.The fries were perfect and the place is super adorable. Fries tasted fresh and werent burnt to a crisp. Food didn't take too long to come out. There are plenty of parking and it seems to be a popular place to buy bread. I didn't buy any, but will try it out next time. Also, I tried the Reuben sandwich and it was perfection. Tasted amazing, great portion size and the sauerkraut was lovely. It was packed when I went, but people seem to come and devour there food, so spaces seem to open regularly. They also have outdoor seating to help alleviate the crowdedness, but it is hot in the middle of the day. So, that means you must get a refreshing did coffee or a soda! We stopped in for a pastry option for breakfast while in town for the morning and enjoyed some stuffed croissants and an orange smoothie. I have always wanted to try the Schat's in Caron city as I love the one in Bishop so much. Much smaller than the bishop one but that's ok. I ordered a turkey sandwich, a clam chowder, and a spiced chai latte. The older lady who took my order proceeded to get everything wrong. I only complained about the burger they served me as I can't have red meat. The older lady then proceeded to complain LOUDLY about how I ordered a burger and she didn't get the order wrong. The redeeming quality which leads me to give this place 4 stars was Kahauna, the young girl serving the food. She made sure my order was corrected and did it with a smile on her face. Additionally, the food was amazing. Only knocking off one star for the pricing and the older lady's loud complaining while I was sitting right there. read more

Love,love,,love this place! Fabulous breads and pastries.! Always something new and different to try and ALWAYS over the top good. You can also sit down to eat it is very small but, quaint! Always busy but, great customer service which is rare these days! I love the sheepherder bread it is over the top but, there are many wonderful breads and bagels too. Plenty of pastries and cookies too! Just tried a bear claw coffee cake and was thinking it would even make a great gift. We go to the Carson City location and highly recommend it! read more

Came in to pick up lunch amid the corona virus. I figured they would be sure there was some sort of order to keep people/customers not on top of each other. We were at the register finishing up Paying for our lunch and the older gal that works there asked the people behind is to go to her register which was on the other side of us. So not only did three customers had to walk very close to us, we had to walk past them after we paid. Shatz might as well have inside dinning the way they where handling how the customers moved around and standing too close together. We ordered cheeseburgers for lunch they were good. The meat is tasty, buns are good. High priced so won't go back soon. read more

So sad this place has gone down hill on their food. I'm reading reviews and had the same experience. Small portions on the sandwiches. They added a huge piece of lettuce and the bread is large.. but where's the MEAT? If I order a Turkey sandwich I hope to get Turkey. I even did what the other person did and asked for extra meat it was 5.00 for more Turkey. There wasn't enough for a normal sandwich. When I asked about it, the server was rude. She told me it's more ( I had scraps of Turkey not slices...) and there was not more. I can tell management is not good or caring and has gone downhill since I see lots of other comments too. I made clam chowder with there bread today they have been giving bread to the community over 4000 loaves!! They've been doing remodeling and are going to open on Friday. I have been going here since April and have some favorites, but I ordered 1/2 lb of cookies today and they gave me 4 cookies for $12. I thought it was a mistake but was told they use "almond paste" in them. I'm sorry, but there isn't any cookie I've had that is worth $3 a piece. The raspberry coffee cake is $12 and that is delicious. Will trim back our purchases there in the future. Always friendly service. read more

This is our favorite spot to eat lunch when we visit from Sacramento. We've tried their Nevada tri-tip, Dutch dip, Club sandwich and Spinach salad, which were all delicious. Went this morning for a cookie and got chocolate for my son and a vanilla latte for me. 3 younger ladies working, one hands me my latte. I take a drink and it is super sweet and has no espresso in it. I let the young lady know it doesn't have espresso in it. Girl: "oh you wanted espresso in it" Me: yes I ordered a vanilla latte- don't you pit espresso in it?" Girl: No we don't, unless you specify Me: I did specify when I asked for a latte? Girl: well we don't usually put it in 2 other employees heard her tell me this and said nothing. They didn't correct her or apologize for her nothing. They made me feel like I was the one wrong. I went today at 0800 today, and the service was fantastic! The two girls getting our order ready we're so sweet in making sure we got exactly what we wanted. We got the ham croissants, cinnamon roll, and chocolate croissants. All were delicious! As visitors from the bay, we didn't have high expectations for Carson city but we were pleasantly surprised! Came in for the gluten-free options and to try the coffee. I don't know if they were having an off day or maybe it was labor day weekend and the backups were in, but the service was terrible. Please let me explain: I wanted a latte, but no milk alternatives. Ok, I'll deal with it. I asked for a breakfast sandwich made on gluten free bread. No can do. So, they had a gluten free loaf of bread! Awesome! Can I get a breakfast sandwich made with this bread if I buy the whole loaf? Yes! Great! ...and we waited...and we waited...and we waited. Finally, at least 30 minutes later (for a scrambled egg and sausage breakfast sandwich) I received my gluten free breakfast sandwich! Only one problem, it was not made with my gluten free bread and where is my loaf of bread? When we got the loaf back, my bread was missing, but where did it go? Only God knows... Bottom line, $25 later for an ok cup of coffee, a gluten free loaf of bread that someone else may have enjoyed, and an extremely long wait for them to not accommodate me with a gluten free sandwich. read more

I stand in line waiting to order my lunch and this May-September Couple of two men wearing pink shirts were asking every stupid question they could think of about the food. I know the Paul Schat's name as the Bishop California Bakery Landmark. Yet, since 2009, there's been one in Carson City. It's fairly easy to find off Carson Street and in the middle of all the State Capital buildings. Gayle and I stopped by on the Day before Thanksgiving to find some breakfast pastries for our hungry family. We ended up buying a dozen combination of scones, pecan rolls, and more as the bulk prices came out to less than $2 a piece. We also added a nice loaf of Jewish Rye for the road. The Sweet Rolls were a big hit among our Clan. I would still rather enjoy a Cheese Board Corn Cherry Scone over all else. However, I'll take this Paul Schat's Bakery alternative any day of the week. read more

I have been to Schat's twice since they opened but have not had the time to write a review, which is a shame, because now I'm fuzzy on the details but I do know both times I got some varied deserts to take home (see photos) that proved to be excellent, and both times my companion and I had sandwiches that were really great. While waiting in line to order my sandwich, I took photos of other people's sandwiches as they were being made because they looked so yummy, but by the time my own sandwich came, I was so excited I ate it up before taking photos aaghh (that just means I have to go back, yeay!) But trust me it was good. The bread is fresh and phenomenal. We bought several different loaves and were very happy with them. I think the prices are very reasonable and the variety is fantastic. If you're in the mood for a good sandwich, some nice pastry, or some fresh bread, definitely give this place a try! read more

Absolutely love this establishment. Whenever I work I stop by here on my way back from delivering. The other day I wanted breakfast so I decided to stop by here before work and get a breakfast bagel. Well it was the most expensive breakfast bagel I've had in my whole life. Breakfast bagel with egg and cheese $5.95 add meat $1.00 So I was like ok $7 for a sandwich whatever I'm hungry. Then I kinda wanted some veggies in it and she had to charge me another $1.00. So my total was $8.29 for a breakfast bagel. I was amazed. I usually just buy their pastries or there baked bread, but every once in a while I'll get their lunch or breakfast, but now I'll just stick to getting their pastries and bread. Yikes. Schat's Bakery in Bishop has been a part of my life for over 30 years, and when I heard some version of it was coming to Northern Nevada I was incredibly excited, and we have not been disappointed. My wife and I have now had their Carson City products twice and we have not been disappointed. On our first visit we had the chili cheese bread and it was almost exactly the same as the Bishop store, and today we had lunch there. Today is the Monday of Christmas week, and so it's hard to tell if it was crowded with shoppers or if the place has just caught on, but in either case, the food was great. We shared a Pastrami sandwich and their soups (today it was Cream of Mushroom and Vegetable Turkey). Both of them were good. There was a drawback. It was too cold to go outside, and there was not enough seating for us inside. We stood around and grabbed a table as a party was leaving, and that's how we got our seat. So, it's definitely worth the stop, very similar to the Bishop store yet smaller, and the seating will be very cozy. read more

Amazing! I hadn't been to Schat's in over 10 years and finally had an opportunity to go again and it did not disappoint. I had the Tahoe Blue which is a tuna melt.
