3 of us went to Schat's for lunch yesterday. Total disaster. Ordered food, I asked for cup of soup with 1/2 sandwich. Was told that the kind of sandwich I wanted was hot and only cold available with soup combo. I said ok, forget the soup & sandwich and I'll just have a sandwich. I had to pay before I got the food. Thought it was expensive at $67+! Then Added 20% tip. After a 17 minute wait my 2 guests got their sandwiches. They were both finished before server brought my food: a chicken sandwich & almost raw fries AND the lukewarm soup and bread that I never ordered! Ketchup bottle at our table and 3 more tables were all empty. Server was clueless, zero personality, just going through the motions. I ate a bit of the sandwich, couldn't eat the raw fries. I was so disgusted with this place, my guest's food was described by both as 'mediocre'. Sadly, this place used to be decent but now they are just living on their laurels from the past. No visible management, nobody seeking feedback on food or service quality. While we may return to purchase bread, we will never return for lunch. A total waste and loss of $75! And I expect the ownership couldn't care. read more

Hi, we been to the Carson City location several times. The pastries are delicious but my coffee order has always been wrong. I just don't get it, not sure if somebody is not paying attention but by the time it gets to the Barista it is always wrong. Me and my friends LOVE Paul Schat's Bakery in Carson City. It's truly a treat every time. I am so glad there is one in Carson City so I don't have to drive down to Gardnerville every time I want a delicious lunch. I always order the chicken club with sweet potatoes fries and a side of ranch when I go to Schat's. My office is only 5 minutes away, which is dangerous for me because I don't need to be spending $20 on a chicken club every weekday... but it's THAT good. It's always served quickly and with a smile! Very disappointing to see a great bakery raising their prices beyond reasonable. Muffins and bagels are now $3 each. This isnt starbucks. Loaf of sourdough bread $6 Sorry! And what happened to breakfast menu like before covid?? Too expensive now. Bagels at Smiths are 79 cents. Very sad!! read more

There is something to be said about fresh baked breads. Leave out all the preservatives and fillers and what you are left with tastes much, much better. This particular bakery has the formula down. For dozens of years I always looked forward to stopping in Bishop for bread to go for the trip and some for back home. Over the years the business had grown and it is a perfect fit for Carson City. It is so much more than sourdough though. They have sweet to savory breads and cookies. The sandwiches that are made to perfection. Yes it is pricy, but worth it IMO. A thing I read up on the Schat's family of bakeries in California and Nevada. is that they are a Dutch family of bakers that dates back to the 1890's. So it is no surprise that they know how to make baked goods this well. read more

Once in a while we treat ourselves to some baked goods at Paul schats. My favorite is the blueberry cheesecake croissant, I get it every time. We also cycle through the ham and cheese croissant and the almond croissant. Both are good but a bit dry. My last visit I got coffee for the first time, and probably the last. If I could give this place negative stars I would. We ordered a burger and a chicken club and both were thrown together worst than McDonald's. The lettuce was inedible, wet and soggy. The tomatoes were cut so small and were just mushy. Waste of money and still left just as hungry as I was when I got there. Disappointing, will not be returning. read more

During our short visit to Carson City from Paul Schat's Bakery, we tried the Sheepherder Bread, almond pound cake, chocolate croissant, and several cookies. We enjoyed the bread...nice flavor...and the pound cake...delicious. The cookies were good but they were crispier than I prefer. If you like a crisp cookie, Paul has plenty of selections. On our next trip to Carson City, we will try more cookies and see if we can find some 'to die for'. The chocolate croissant was very nice...as good as any we have had at other bakeries around the US and outside the US. read more

Stop selling burnt products! I want so bad to love coming to the store and support this business , when you constantly put burnt food out though it's disheartening and just plain bad service. Came in today to purchase a sweet treat, and there was nothing I could buy because almost all of the cookies were burnt and the lemon meringue pie tops were almost black. This is a common thing I see when I come in here and I come in here often. It feels like you don't care about your customers buying bad products all you care about is your customers buying something. The bakery is on a very busy side street, kinda the back side of a strip mall. The parking lot is a bit odd. Large but small cluster of spaces. The bakery itself at 10 am was hoping. Shelves of fresh baked breads, cookies, pastries and spreads pre wrapped for quick grab and go. Or a counter to individually pick out your pasty and cookies. In the back corner is the counter to order food. Limited salad, sandwich, and burger options for take out or eat in. There's a few booths and tables inside for dining. So n my any delicious sounding items. But I went with their BLT since it was brunch time. The fresh sourdough bread was grilled and piled with delicious crisp bacon and fresh lettuce and tomato. We came here for lunch on a Saturday. It is relatively busy and stock with all kinds of amazing goodies!!! I wanted to order half BLT and salad but not an option... only certain sandwiches come as a half. I ordered the Mammoth BLT and it was very tasty.... Except for a tomato end. Their legendary baked goods are well known, especially if you have been to Mammoth. I personally love their scones, croissants, and jalapeno/sour dough breads. The breakfast burritos are great, too. I don't know how long they have been around at this location, but the local people are so friendly and love to help with questions and / or decisions.
