A lot!!! My husband and I ordered the French dip. When it arrived, it was not hot and the roast beef was dry and Chewey, which I couldn't eat. This was the worse experience I've had with Schats! Ordered the turkey sandwich and ended up with a nasty case of food poisoning. The sandwich itself was unremarkable, but the aftermath was unforgettable. A few hours later, I was out of commission and seriously regretting my visit. On top of that, I noticed the staff handling food with pretty questionable hygiene--no gloves, touching things they shouldn't, and generally just not inspiring confidence. In fact, Staphylococcus aureus (a very common cause of food poisoning) can cause intense vomiting and abdominal cramps within 30 minutes to 6 hours, especially from foods like deli meats, turkey sandwiches, mayo-based items, and anything left out too long or handled improperly. Symptoms come on fast and typically resolve within 24 hours. So yes, it's entirely possible that the turkey sandwich I ate at your bakery was the cause. Coming here for years and our 1st big disappointment. On Sunday at 12:30 sandwich shop closed,pastries were dry but the worst was telling my husband who is allergic to walnuts that the cinnamon roll was pecans, it was walnuts, even after asking and saying allergic to walnuts. What a nice bakery!!! We came in for breakfast and were impressed with the different selections of pastries they had. We had a pepperoni bagel with cream cheese that melted in your mouth. It was a little crispy and warm and was heaven in your mouth. The other thing that we had was a croissant that was prepared like a little fruit tart with cream in the middle. It was so delicious. Schat's opens at 6am every morning. I like getting here early to get in on some of the day old offerings at 50% off! Bread loves for $3.00 instead of $6.00 and it's just the day before and tastes the same as today's bake. Morning is nice to enjoy a pastry and a coffee. Free refills on the coffee! Pastries are around $4.00 and the coffee is $2.50. Pro tip: get your pastry heated, it's way better that way. Lunches are good here too. Burgers and that Ruben is the best! read more

Laziest staff ever just left at 245pm came in for a toasted bagel and cream cheese. It was ok that there was only one bagel left not my flavor but not an issue. My husband and I drive to Carson City just to eat at the Schat's Bakery when it first opened we could get each the 1/2 famous Turkey and soup and we'd pay about $17 & over the years $21 for our meal & always drink the cucumber water, such a nice touch. Last week, the sandwiches were big and the soup is always loaded, but not today one slice of Turkey and one clam in the chowder cost/price drum role, please...$32. We certainly don't mind paying the price, but if you're going to dwindle your portions and raise prices, it's time to find a new favorite spot. We're going to go try L.A Bakery and see what that is like. Heard good things. I'm sad because I really love Schat's. Also the lady who takes my order! My previous review was back in 2018.. Not sure where it went, but I'll do another.. Waiting for our table (Red's 395).. decided to walk over.. Pretty busy for a Saturday mid afternoon.. I just love the Bishop, Ca. Location...(not affiliated).. However, this will suffice until fishing season starts in a few weeks.. My all time favorite is the walnut cranberry bread!... Toasted with butter!! Oh just delish! Indulged with the pineapple coffee cake, chocolate loaf, apple turnover and a morning bun. Minus a star because they don't have the butter danish cookies.. Talk about an overrated bakery. I've tried this location two times and the Bishop location at least three times. Stale bread, and just not worth the money. Each time I've ordered rolls, bread or other items, it has been ahead of a holiday. If I wanted the items to be baked a week in advance I would ask. I'd like things to be fresh. I understand a holiday rush, but if you have to cut corners and give customers week old rolls etc, just take fewer orders. I'm absolutely unimpressed. read more

we came down from the lake from working today and a Rueben sounded good. We stopped at schats bakery, since they have a pretty decent sandwich. I ordered onion rings in addition to what came with it. She substituted what I ordered for what came with the sandwich. I ordered in addition. And charged me for the substitution. Ok. When I called it to the attention of the gal that brought the food, she said they must have gotten confused and I would have to go pay for the fries. Not the correct way to handle an order. Onion rings were greasy and they sat on the counter for about 4 -5 min before they brought out sandwich to us. So make sure your order is correct. Schats! I'm surprised! read more

It was my first time in the bakery. We walked in and immediately were told it was "cash only". Then we went to the order window and were told only one cash register was open. There are delicious looking cakes and cookies, and breads and jams, lining the window. Only about 5 booths for seating, so if it's busy you might have to take it to go. There wasn't really a bakery smell, which would have added a scensory overload to our visit. (in a good way) The baked goodies all looked so appetizing but we were strong ;) We ordered the burger (comes with fries) and the BLT, fries additional. A burger and fries was $12.00. Quite a delicious bargain. Food was out in no time. We split both so we could each try the other, but after 1/2 the burger and fries we were stuffed. The burger bun, was beyond fresh, the burger meat was medium done (perfect) every ingredient on that burger was high quality. The fries were perfectly crisp, and there were a ton of them. I took home 1/2 the blt for dinner, and it was delicious as well. The bacon to bread ratio (it's a thing) was spot on! We ended up splitting a peanut butter cookie and it was just okay - which was weird since it's a bakery and that's what they DO. I'll be back in and buy some bread because it was looking phenomenal. read more

Worst customer service. I go there at least once a week for a treat. The last two times the girls have been very unfriendly and act like your a bother and expect tips for just doing there job. Today I went in and waited for counter service, there was a couple ahead of me who had obviously waited awhile. The girls where standing at the register talking and counting tips. There were two girls with backs towards us and one had seen us all standing there but chose to look and turn back around and ignore us. The couple walked out after having not been acknowledged or greeted or attended too. I left not long after them for lack of service. Well, it was only a phone order. The young lady didn't know what a Tiramisu was. My next question was if it was made with lady fingers. She didn't know that either. I asked her if they take phone orders. come to find out they do. Then I had to ask how much it was. Needless to say, you better be on your toes when it comes to phone orders. you never know what you're going to get. We hear Friday 5/15 is Schat's re-opening. Come and get your favourite breads and hopefully sweet things, too. The menu will be limited. It's timing. They can order items like meats and cheeses all day long. Getting them is a whole new challenge. Supplies will be tough to get at first, gotta walk before you can run. A big salute to Paul and Isaiah for baking and distributing FREE bread everyday during the crisis. Some 1,500-1,800 loaves. We take it to friends and a few seniors we know. My friend Barbara takes it to the local firehouse. In the meantime they've been working tirelessly to remodel the store and clean/restore everything. I am stoked. Can't wait to see the new look! I admit I wasn't always a huge Paul Schat's fan. Quality time and time again have changed that. We had our last sandwich literally days before the shut-down of 2020, I've been craving one ever since. Just goes to show ya! It's my hope this man's business will at least double when things open up. A very nice person and a giving person. He's funny, too. We go here whenever we drive through Carson City, which used to be weekly. We love their breads and their cookies. The chocolate cookies are one of our favorites. The last time I went in there they double charged my credit card. Good thing I look at my statements.... I will say when I called to have them refund it back they were very nice. We have always had good service here until yesterday. Yesterday we went to the bakery with 6 people. We each were going to buy something. They had 4 signs up saying buy one get a loaf of walnut bread free. So we pick one up.... we go to pay and ask... where is the free loaf. They reply there's none left. So one of us thought we would do them a favor and flip their sign over. As we did that another customer eating says... oh I was just going to ask where my free loaf was. We told her oh they're out but they keep leaving the sign up even though they don't have any. One worker said we have to keep the sign up or we get in trouble. I guess they want to keep deceiving the customers that they're getting a deal even though they're getting screwed. One worker in a big red bow was so irritated that with a pastry in her hand she felt the need to carry the customers pastry over to the breed table to flip it over before finishing helping the customer. The other worker who yelled we have to keep the sign up skipped the next person in line and helped the next 3 people after her... so that person in our party left without buying anything. All 6 of us had the worst customer service we have ever had there. We understand we went in later in the day and it wasn't what they said it was how they said it and their body language was and how all 6 of us went outside and couldn't believe the customer service that was given. It's too bad because we loved coming here...but this bad customer service will have all 6 of us think twice and a few of the people we brought... it was their first time there. read more
