I'm extremely pleased & that rarely happens. The first time I visited was when my ins was approved. I showed him xrays from another doctor who said I needed $4,000 of work. He took his own xrays which matched the first. Dr Taylor said all I needed was a deep cleaning. I said the other dentist did a deep cleaning with laser for $1,000. He said lasers can't really do a deep cleaning, you use it to clean up bacteria after a mechanical deep cleaning. He charged $100 for the laser. My insurance did cover cleaning, but the front desk said there was a copay. Hmmmm. I called Delta Dental and they agreed there was a copay. I thought it was free. Everyone I dealt with was pleasant, no complaints. I've had multiple cleanings & xrays, no surprises. read more

I've been going to Dr. Taylor for years and he is the best dentist I've ever had. My first visit was after I had been working with a dentist with a lot of knowledge but no empathy. Dr. Taylor has both. He's very patient and he always explains the work that is needed and why. I feel like he is a dentist who avoids doing unnecessary procedures and he always has a calm demeanor which is helpful for me because I experience a lot of anxiety at dental appointments. There have also been a couple of times when I needed an emergency appointment and he has always accommodated me. I have always found his front desk staff to be welcoming and efficient. read more

UNETHICAL DENTIST: Went to the dentist for the first time in a while. Paul Taylor told me I had 8 cavities and a problem grinding my teeth while I sleep. He promptly handed me an estimate to have my teeth drilled and filled for $1500 dollars because he uses "a premium material not covered by insurance" I took the quote to another dentist who took a look at my teeth and said I HAD NO CAVITIES and simply some natural demineralization that just needed monitoring. Paul Taylor will call anything a cavity and scam you into drilling out your teeth and putting a filling in. AVOID THIS OFFICE. read more

Their billing is totally inaccurate and even though my insurance allows me three FREE cleanings a year, they charged me for my cleaning anyway. Then they stated the insurance company was the worst and wrong. I even did a conference call with the office and my insurance, and they were just totally rude. I am not going back. Call your insurance company and get a print out of your coverages. don't just pay without an accurate statement of your costs. The staff doesn't care and are VERY rude. read more

Beware of this office! My family have tried for year to give Dr. Taylor and his staff an opportunity to improve on the services. Their hygienist staff is absolutely fantastic! The front desk is rude dismissive and are typically trying to upsell for any financial opportunity. The dentistry work is average at best, in fact I've had a cap remade several times and continues to break. Dr. Taylor was insistent that I needed to buy a new cap although, the one he made for me never really fit and was under warranty. Additionally they try to upsell my 18 year old daughter to put veneers on her teeth. Unfortunately, I would never recommend this dentist office. read more

I was assigned to Dr. Taylor by my insurance company and went in for a regular checkup/X-Rays. When it came time to schedule my regular cleaning, they said it would cost $95 out of pocket. I have never paid more than a $5 copay for a cleaning, so I said I would just like to have the insurance-covered cleaning--no bells and whistles. They said the doctor recommended the "intermediate" $95 cleaning and didn't even offer a basic cleaning. When I pushed back they offered to send me my X-Rays so that I could take my business elsewhere. I'm not one to leave bad reviews, especially for small businesses, but this was the worst experience I've ever had with a dentist. And I know I don't need the upselling; the hygienist herself commented on how good/clean my teeth are and said she wished more patients flossed as regularly as I do. I never got into the office for an exam but having just waited almost a month for an appointment, they called and canceled with no explanation. The woman who called was rude, disrespectful, and hung up on me. Please learn proper customer service skills. 10+ years ago they used to have an amazing Office Manager (forgot her name) she was the main reason why I chose this office. Since she's gone things have fallen apart, the front office/front desk staff is unexperienced, inefficient, and don't even know how to find insurance information. Caution: Will charge you more than your insurance copay!!!! Saw Dr. Taylor for the first time today. Everything seemed fine until I got the quotes. My insurance covers fillings with a $35 copay. This dentist wants to charge me $205 out of pocket. The every 6 month cleaning? My copay is $5. This office wants me to pay them $95.00 out of pocket. They say it's because they use special materials/procedures. But they won't even give me the option to have the work done my insurance will cover. I've been trying to find a good dentist that won't quote me for procedures I don't need or up sell. Guess I'll have to keep looking. read more

I have an irrational fear of the dentist. Today I had filings and a crown. They all made me feel safe and reassured I was going to be just fine. This is the best experience I have had at a dentist. Moreover, I was advised earlier in the year that if we opted to get both my husbands PPO and mine our bill would be down to only like 25% of the total cost. I saw on their website that they offer a free dental consultation and CLEANING, so I called the front office to schedule the free consultation and cleaning. I specifically asked to schedule a free consultation and cleaning, and the lady I spoke with helped me schedule this. I showed up and received x-rays from the dental assistant and then the dentist came in and looked at my teeth and told me I had some cavities. He then brought in an insurance lady who told me it was going to cost $250 for each filling ... even with insurance! That sounds insanely high to me. After hearing these numbers, I asked about my teeth cleaning because I hadn't received it yet. They told me that my teeth weren't eligible for the free cleaning and I had to get a deeper teeth cleaning that would cost $95... I wasn't even able to get the free cleaning if I wanted! This was a classic bait and switch and a complete waste of my time. They shouldn't falsely advertise a free teeth cleaning , and they should tell people when they call to schedule to free consultation and cleaning that not everyone is eligible. So I went in for a tooth whitening service. I think it was called Zoom? In the process I was helped by my assigned Dental Assistant, Bianca and she made molds for post whitening, home whitening at the start. Then completed 4x 15 minute sessions of whitening. It was a simple but long procedure which was made easier with Bianca talking to me about it and checking with me throughout, checking comfort, concerns, etc.. At the end I received my take home kit. Dr. Taylor has been my dentist for a bit and he is also the girls. He has been ever so gentle with us. If he weren't I wouldn't go back! I really like the fact that they have an actual dental hygienist doing the cleanings. Mine was awesome her name was Liz and she explained everything before she did it. I went to Paul's Dentistry because I had been wanting to get my teeth whitened. I called and setting up the appointment was easy enough and I was super excited but a bit nervous. The day of the appointment, I met Bianca who was going to be doing my teeth whitening. I found her to be very knowledgeable and kind. She very quickly eased my fears. Throughout the prep work she explained to me what she was doing. During the procedure she made sure to check on me and ask how I was doing. Afterwards she explained and answered all questions I had about post care, and I am super ecstatic and happy with the results!! I've gotten so many random compliments on my teeth. I have been coming to Dr Taylor's practice since 2010. My first visit was actually at his other location, but truth be told, I much prefer the one on Genessee. My review will solely be based on my experiences here for my teeth cleaning and invisalign. Teeth cleaning -My very first cleaning, I had to pay $91 for the special mouthwash they used. As I was forking over the $, the staff in the front desk was nice enough to let me know that if I were to switch my plan to a PPO, this can be covered. Thanks to that advice, I have been coming back every 6 months and paid $0 on that mouthwash since! Invisalign - Although my teeth were not terribly out of alignment, they could have used some help. I didn't want the pain of braces, but I wanted the straight teeth, so thank goodness for invisalign. At that time, I have already been coming here for a year and after looking through Dr Taylor's invisalign portfolio, which can be found on the coffee table as you walk in, I discussed the option with the dentist. Long story short, the ladies at the front desk were SOOOO helpful when it came to figuring out the confusing insurance coverages (I was using both mine and my mom's insurance plans to pay for this). The visits were short and simple and the fitting was not bad at all. After 10 quick months of switching out trays every 2 weeks, I was DONE. I am so happy with the results and can't stop people from commenting on how nice and natural my teeth feel. I just want to add that the professionalism and knowledge of the staff more than make up for the lack of personal time with the dentists. And all in all, I would recommend Dr Paul Taylor's practice to everyone. read more

I've gone here for several years, originally referred by a co-worker. I've always liked the hygienists, very sweet and professional--that's what the 2 stars are for. I have cleanings every 3 months, covered by my insurance. Very preventive and necessary for someone like me on a very limited budget I have used none of my dental insurance this year (other than cleanings) and in fact have about $2000 benefit left as we approach the end of the year, yet I was told my portion for a crown and a possible root canal, which supposedly is 90% covered, would be well over $600 . . .WTF? I explained my financial situation--in one ear and out the other. I was told I can have no further prophylactic cleanings until I get the (questionably) necessary crown re-do for hundreds of $$$. Needless to say, I guess I am forced to find another dentist. . . . The insurance company, BTW, notified me that they could not see the "decay" the dentist was referring to. I was referred to Dr Taylor's office. It was the best referral I have ever received for Dental Care. The office is centrally located in Clairemont across from the DMV. The office staff are very helpful. Jennifer assisted with my X-rays and Andrea did my cleaning she was so through and careful. The front desk staff Katie and Lexi were helpful in scheduling especially at the end of the year. Dr Taylor helped me with my fears as he recommended removal of my Wisdom teeth due to pain and problems. A referral was put in by Katie to Dr Hussainy an Oral Surgeon my appointment with him was completed within 20 minutes with just a local. I give this Dentist and his staff 5 Stars. I have been going to this practice for four years. I never had an issue with them. Staff was friendly, although the Dentist has a horrible bedside manner. Not once did he ever address me by name or have any kind of conversation with me. He has no personality whatsoever. This however, was not the problem. Recently I broke a tooth that required a crown. They were able to get me in quickly and start the process and ultimately get the permanent crown in place. My out of pocket expense was $700. A few weeks later I received my explanation of benefits stating the type of crown they used was not covered and I should have only paid ~$450. I took this to the office to get an explanation from them. The office manager proceeded to explain to me they used a certain type of crown that was considered an upgrade and it wasn't covered by insurance. I said, yes, I know....that's why I'm here! Why did you use the upgrade for a back tooth that is not visible and why did you not consult me about it? She had no good excuse and was very dismissive and condescending, displayed no empathy or understanding and really was just a bitch about the entire situation. She then told me to leave stating that I had been nothing but a problem for them, clearly confusing me for someone else, because had not had ANY issues with them in the past, other than the vapid personality of Dr Taylor. Then last week I cracked another tooth. Having not scared another dentist, I called them to see it I could get in to see Dr Taylor. The office manager told me based on hour last conversation i should go find another dentist and then said I called her and her staff idiots among other things, which again was completely untrue. So I dont know if this office manager has mental issues or just likes to abuse her perceived authority as gate keeper at her sacred dental office. She is a whack job. Tread lightly. read more

I never write reviews and I especially hate to write negative ones, but I am extremely frustrated because of all the money I will have to spend redoing them. I got my crowns done with them a few years ago and I noticed I had red gums. They said it would go away. After moving and seeing a few dentists they said it was not normal. I moved back and went back to ask him about it and he said it was normal and gave me instructions on putting some type of bleach on it. I've had several dentist tell me I may have been allergic to something and I will have to replace the 2 crowns. They also told me my cleaning was going to be $95 when my insurance said it should be free. I ended up going somewhere else and it was free. It's sad that they take advantage of people. And to his comment I DID GO BACK AND ASK QUESTIONS which I stated above lol. Multiple dentist are telling me the red gums aren't normal and he was telling me it is. read more

I cannot even count the details of why you shouldn't go here. Most importantly they aim to up charge you for services, confuse you about insurance billing and coverage. Other reviewers have left more detailed encounters about this and ours was the same. Secondly when I called for an appointment they said yes we can fit you in next week. Great I thought. We go, see the dentist but they can't get you in for a cleaning for 4 months but could fit you in for a filing the next week that they can up charge you for. Do not give them your business. read more
