I was able to get an appointment the next day for a semi-urgent issue. My major need was referred to an Oral Surgeon. I had a minor need that was handled at the same appointment . Most dentists would schedule another office visit. Not Bay View. Bay View has and shares their imaging technology that gives a patient a clear view of what is going on and what is needed to resolve an issue. Sadly I never left a review when this practice was run by Dr. Mark Emerson. We got a letter last fall he was selling the practice and had appointments in August (we go to the dentist 2x per year regularly). While on vacation I got calls and texts daily from the practice to cancel my appt (apparently upon the change over many staff left which we only found out about when we FINALLY got appts 3 months later). I had been ignoring the calls and texts because I was on VACATION so they started calling and texting my husband. Sadly because these appts were cancelled we never got to say good bye to Dr. Emerson. It took them 3 months to schedule us new appts (my husband had an appt cancelled also and I still don't think they have called him). My child and I had appts in November and sadly found out our hygienist Rachel had left the practice and that was why it took so long to get in. We had some other lady who was filling in (she worked at some other practice). She was ok. I felt she did not do as good of a job as the previous hygienist. Upon leaving we made our next appointments. The front desk staff gave us an appointment reminder card with the date and our names on it. Fast forward to the day of our appt we show up and they allegedly do not have us down for an appt. I had left the reminder card on the fridge so asked my husband to text me a picture. He did and upon presenting it to the staff she stated "I don't have you down for an appt." I asked how I could have a card stating I have an appt if I did not. She stated she did not know and offered to make an appt (an offer I did not take her up on as how could I be assured that appt would be made?) Since we had not been there since November they had "remodeled" the office. And by remodeled they reduced the waiting room to a narrow hall with 4 chairs as there is now a wall that takes up all the former waiting room. I requested they send us our records as we will not be returning. I had stayed with them as I had paid the $250 fee for whitening(they make you trays and give you the gel at each visit) but after all these mishaps they either don't want us as patients or don't need us so we will go elsewhere. They have also continued to utilize marketing that has Dr. Emerson's name on it. Not sure if they are trying to use up old stock or if it is a way to lure people in with his name but this yelp profile still has him listed as the dentist as does the website. read more

Had my 6-month check with x-rays and requested over the phone that the dentist check a recent chip in my front tooth. The cleaning went great, and when the doctor came in, he let me know it would take about 30 minutes, and I wouldn't need local anaesthesia for the chipped tooth. Turned out they had the time and checked my insurance for me so I would know the cost. Got it done same day and went on my way pain-free and happy. There's not much to say that hasn't been said already! Dr. Emerson and his team are wonderful. Every single person I've interacted with in the office has been LOVELY. I hadn't been to the dentist in ...5... (okay, okay it was 8) years! I was super nervous about going but I was also tired of wasting my insurance payments all year every year AND I really wanted to start the Invisalign process. The front office was great and got me scheduled quickly! There was no judgment from Dr. Emerson or his team when I confessed how long I'd been away from the dentist. I told him everything I was hoping to get done (teeth checked, wisdom teeth removed, Invisalign to straight the teeth I'd let go wonky by avoiding wisdom tooth removal and ditching my retainer years ago) and he helped me put a plan in place right away. I was referred to an oral surgeon (bonus: that office is in the same complex), had a few fillings done, and then COVID hit. So, my plan got delayed by a few months but in the end after I was all healed up from the wisdom teeth removal, we did all the prep for Invisalign and officially started ~4 weeks later. Dr. Emerson was super thorough and listened to the tweaks/additional changes I was hoping for when the initial set of trays was done. All of my appointments to pick up new trays and check progress were quick and easy and when the whole thing was over I was honestly sad to drop back to the once every 6 months cleaning visit vs. getting to see them every few weeks. They even let you pick an ornament off the tree if you have an appointment at Christmas time! I've recommended Dr. Emerson to multiple people and I know at least two have gone there and been just as pleased as I was. They are super awesome and I am so grateful to have found them. I can smile again without being self conscious about my teeth :) Worth noting: location is very convenient (esp for me as someone who lives in the Clairemont area) but even if you don't, it's worth it. It's safe to say that as I get older going to the dentist is never my favorite activity. And so I have to give this group 5 stars for doing everything they can to make my visits as pleasant as possible. I had a crown put on today (again, not super fun) but overall I can't imagine anything more I'd want in terms of "bedside manner" and overall comfort level. I have also, always appreciated Dr. Emerson's great way of not throwing the whole kitchen sink at me, but rather identifying what needs to happen now and what we can do in the future. I been going to this office since 2018 and i love the staff and Dr. Emerson was amazing. However my last 2 visits didn't feel the same. The staff has changed. 3 months ago i went for checkup and cleaning and the hygienist didn't do a good job. Her machine wasn't working and I didn't get the polish that day but still they charged my insurance. Two weeks ago, i went again and had the same hygienist and this time it felt like she was rushing, she didn't floss my teeth and I'm not sure if she forgot or what. Wow, what a horrible experience. I have been going to dr. Emerson for years and he is amazing. Never a complaint. He recently sold his practice to Megan Shelton and after my experience there I will never go back. My dental cleaning was incredibly harsh. The lady polished my teeth before cleaning them, so after all the harsh scraping that left my teeth hurting, they were rough since they didn't get polished after. They told me I had chipped a tooth, so I went back to get that fixed and worked with dr. Shelton. I am not convinced she knows what she is doing. I have never had such an awkward experience. She adjusted my bite so I wouldn't chip the tooth when I clench my teeth at night, but somehow ruined my bite which made other teeth hit funny. I had to go back again to get it adjusted and she just kept making it worse. Now, I can't even chew on that side because I get shooting pain if I bite into anything. I would stay clear if this new dentist. read more
