Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie I oicked up a "large" Pumpkin Pie from Paula Vegas today and could not be more disappointed. It's small. Normal 8 inch for a "large". There was not a lot of pumpkin filling and the crust was crumbled and dark. The Paula Vega quality has definitely plummeted. No pink box either. Just a pie tin covered with aluminum foil. read more

**Out of Town Guest Review** Paula Vega Cakes....WOW!!! Talk about above and beyond customer service provided. We had some of the most delicious cupcakes and cookie cake ever! The cupcakes were so moist and even had a surprise filling. We even brought two home on the plane ride back to Atlanta. The cookie cake was so nice and had a good bite to it. It was not overly sweet which was perfect as we ate it for breakfast on multiple days. It is not often that we find ourselves in Huntington WV, but I will say that Huntington WV is very lucky to have Paula Vega Cakes and the staff that works there. Great store in downtown Huntington, their cupcakes are amazing, I got the Oreo cheesecake and it was the perfect blend of light cheesecake with sweet frosting on top. Stopped by here for a quick dessert after an interview in the area. It looked very appealing from the outside and the inside was pleasantly decorated. My friend and I looked at the available cupcake options and it was readily apparent that they had been largely cleaned out prior to our arrival. Thankfully there were a few items left and we snagged a strawberry cupcake and an Italian creme cupcake, both of which looked great. We were the only customers at the time, though both of the workers here seemed uninterested in taking our order and more intent on continuing their (non-work-related) conversation. When the young lady did serve us, it was taken care of rapidly and without much interaction. It's been my experience that bakeries typically emphasize good service, primarily because this is in keeping with the "aura of happiness" places like this thrive on, though also because there are so many bakeries that they need to do anything they can to stand apart. Maybe there are no other bakeries in the area they need to set themselves apart from? We enjoyed the cupcakes at one of their outside tables. They were good, though didn't quite deliver as much as their appearance had promised. Thankfully, the price was still reasonable for what we ended up getting. I don't know this area well enough to compare it to other Huntington options, though it struck me as average in various departments. If they made more of an effort to interact with customers and perhaps made their cupcakes a bit sweeter or more flavorful, it would help them to stand out more. Overall: 3.0 stars ----------- Pros: - Cupcakes were good, if not especially unique. - The outside tables were a nice touch, good for enjoying a quick snack on a beautiful day. - I like that the prep area is openly visible to customers, cool feature. Paul and I stopped by today after having lunch around the corner. I got an almond melt away cookie and a piece of peanut butter fudge, and Paul got an oatmeal cream pie and a piece of peanut butter fudge. I ate the cookie, which was perfect, right away and saved the fudge for later. I also tried a bite of Paul's oatmeal cream pie. Wow! It really put Little Debbie to shame. I liked that the peanut butter fudge was sweet, but not cloyingly so, as fudge often is. What was missing was peanut butter flavor. It tasted like vanilla fudge, which is good, but not what I wanted. Service left something to be desired. The young woman at the counter did not greet us, and I felt as though it was a bother for us to be there. Placed an order for a 6 inch cake and 24 cupcakes that were supposed to be picked up at 1PM today for my 2 year olds birthday party at 4PM. When my husband arrived there was a hand written note on the door they would be closed due to weather! A few things have my stumped on this...how do you call yourself a business and can make an effort to write a hand written note saying you won't be in but don't even have the decency to call and give your customers that had orders to be picked up today a heads up? I ordered some gluten free cupcakes for my friends birthday and the next day I went to pick them up and not only did they not have them they gave them away to another customer prior to my arrival. Used to be a great bakery- one of my favs. We have ordered here a million times. HOWEVER, our last couple experiences/ orders have been absolutely terrible. I started trying to contact someone two months in advance for my son's birthday- after multiple calls and emails, I finally got in touch with someone. Then didn't hear back again for weeks (I had to reach out again). The day before our event I got a phone call asking for pictures (again) bc they got another new baker. Our order was actually super easy! I had my mom pick everything up the day off, so I didn't get to see it prior to the party. I assumed it would be the same quality- um no lol. No toppings on the cupcakes, a few had some sprinkles (I had ordered a variety). We had no idea what they were or what was what. They were all white or red. The cake was completely inedible- it was like a solid brick. We trashed it and I had to run to Kroger in the middle of the party. I had heard they had done down hill, but we personally had never had an absolutely terrible experience- until now. I don't mind paying a higher price as long as the quality is worth it. Stopped by while in town visiting my cousin. I heard the lemon berry cupcakes were delicious, so I was a little bummed when I found out they didn't have any. The girl helping me was super nice and recommended a few other flavors. I went with a wedding cake cupcake and a wedding cake macaron. They made the cake for my baby shower last year and I was for the most part satisfied. The cake looked like the photo I had sent them and it tasted pretty good. Only critique is that the top portion of the cake was tilting like the leaning tower of Pisa. Anyways there are not a lot of bakeries in this area so I decided to use them again for my boy's birthday party. They gave me a ridiculously high quote for $450 for a cake for 50 people. I asked her for a new quote eliminating all the sugar figures but one on top, still $280. I tried to figure out why she was charging me so much for a one year old birthday cake and she was unwilling to negotiate. Ordered a cake for my mother's 71st Birthday with a few days notice. Had never been to this shop but was recommended by a great restaurant in town. Did not really know what type of cake to get her, the person on the phone who took my order was very patient and make great suggestions. I went with the Italian cream cake with pecans and coconut. I visited the store about a year ago and was unhappy with the way I felt when I left. I was interested in getting a small cake and cupcakes for my wedding. The woman behind the counter acted as if I had asked for her kidney. I decided to give it another try this past week, just to see how I felt, and it was exactly the same feeling. The cupcakes are delicious, the service is something I've never really encountered before. I felt like I was not good enough to be shopping there. The lady the cashed me out was sweet and polite. The lady that filled my order, was rather cold, did not try to talk to me, even after I asked how her day was. I understand, people have bad days, some have chronic bitch face but I was made to feel as if she was doing me a favor for allowing me to be in the store. I'm not saying have a 20 min convo, but at least pretend to be glad a patron is there and not as of I'm a burden or below you. I thought it was just me, I'm a tshirt and no makeup kind of girl, so I asked a few of my coworkers (we work directly across the street) we could bring in a lot of business, but everyone of said the same thing, the felt unwelcome when trying to shop or ask a question. We ordered a cake for my daughters birthday party on 8/4. Came to pick up the cake on 8/4 but the cake was not ready. Turns out the ordering email from my wife said the pick up date was Saturday 8/4 not Friday 8/4. So the store insist on the delivery date was Saturday and not 8/4 because "in our business people gets the date wrong all the time so we go with the day of the week". No call back or confirmation from the store even though they notice it because on their written order sheet the date was changed from 8/4 to 8/5. To make things better, no apology. The manager was a real PUNK. He came over and he makes you feel like it was my fault that I won't have a cake for my daughters 10th birthday. He keeps on asking me what kind of solution I can come up to solve the problem knowing there are none. So I ask for the cake today and he offered a cancellation knowing that I can't let that happen because your kid had ask for the specific cake for her birthday. I ask him if he have any kids to see if he can appreciate what a parent is feeling when he can't deliver the cake for his little girl. His response was "it's none of your business". Very classy very ice cold. I felt like I'm picking up a wedding dress the day before the wedding and the dress maker does not have the dress ready. All they can offer is a refund. I asked to verify the inscription on the cake so that their are no more mistake. This PUNK Manager refused. Stating that the only person they would talk to is my wife whom ordered the cake. I wonder who is the customer here. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this establishment for anybody unless there is a change in the management and their approach to their customers. Don't get me wrong.
