I am reviewing the little restaurant on the property, not where all the cabins are (I think). We got there around 4 pm, were told the day before they were opened until 6, but the door sign said 5. In any case we were led upstairs to where the "bar" is and selected a table for 4 inside, very chilly day for June.Two of us ordered the BLT, which comes with fries, really good with good amount of tomatoes and lettuce and of course the bacon! DH got the Fish and Chips and he said it was good. The other person in the party got Chicken strips when chicken salad sandwich was not available. The bar was tiny, but they had a decent enough selection of beer and liquor to choose from if that's what you wanted. Prices are about what everything around Bend/Sunriver is- high IMHO. We paid about $100 for 4 after tip. Not a bad little place to stop in for a bite, definitely not a real restaurant, but not as awful as I thought it would be given the lackluster reviews here on yelp. Believe the previous reviews. When you have numerous reviews that all tell you there are problems with this place you would be well advised to listen. The water: When countless people tell you that the water is not drinkable (Potable water) then believe them. I'm not even sure it's safe to bath in. You smell like you rubbed Sulfur all over your body. You smell the sulfur whenever you run the water in the cabins. I wouldn't cook with it or brush my teeth with it. I used bottled water. The shower: Is only big enough for one average size person. The hot water lasts for about 10 minutes and if you have to choose between washing your hair or your body make the choice before you go in. It goes from hot to below freezing in 1 minute. NO grace. The shower head does not move. The shower curtain was gross!!!! Look at the pictures. Orange from the sulfur and pink from MOLD!!! Really, how hard is it to clean a shower curtain between each new occupants! Rustic Cabins: Rustic on the outside and filthy on the inside. The cupboards and countertops were covered in greasy grime. I had to clean the counters to use them. I didn't put anything in the cupboards. Gross! The beds: Uncomfortable. We rolled into the middle of the beds. They say queen but they were double size beds. My husband is 6'2" and he legs went way off the end of the bed, by at least five or six inches. This of course hurt his back. I talked to Todd about the beds and he said they were only a year or two old. Doesn't matter if they aren't flat so that you guests can get a good nights sleep. He offered to send the maintenance man to see if he could "fix" the problem but with all the other reviews that said the beds were uncomfortable, they knew there is a problem and refused to fix it. There are no pictures of these cabins. Red Flag! The cabins are very dark, they are not well lit. Don't waste your time or money. Stay in a hotel which is half the cost and cleaner and then drive to the lake. You will be a lot happier. read more

Location is lovely. Margaritas, not so much. $24 for a "double" margarita, with a measured 2 oz pour of Luna Azul Blanco, filled with cloyingly sweet, sh*tty mix and ice. We had been here a couple times and had a decent time (see previous review) so we thought we would give it another try. We scheduled a big group over MLK weekend and had rented several cabins. I paid in full then had to cancel a week before the trip. I knew the policy was not to expect a refund unless "your cabin is re-rented". Our friends still went and noticed the cabin had occupants all weekend. When I called and inquired about a refund they told me I wouldn't receive one due to it not being rented! That was an outright lie. We tried to call several times after and no returned calls. I always root for small businesses. I really wanted this business to do well. However, after ignoring bad service in the restaurant, dirty bathrooms and poor customer service, this is the last straw. I won't be back and will tell all our friends about their poor customer service. It's really too bad, they are one of the only places in the area and wouldn't have to do much to have a thriving business. read more

The cabins are dirty, dark and cold. Came up for some hiking and fishing the temperature at night is below freezing, no heat in the cabins but they will sell you a presto log for $5 to throw in the wood stove what a joke. The shower stall is disgusting (picture attached) all faucets leaked, water smelled like sulphur, one power outlet was visibly blown out with black all around it afraid to use it, and the one morning while getting ready to head out still dark came in the kitchen saw a mouse coming out of the burner on the stove grabbed a towel and then the mouse threw both out the door. Checked out after that but no refund I'll fight that with CC company. Owners need to invest back in resort quit pocketing all the cash. read more

This property is both a lodging facility and a dining location. We stopped for lunch while we were visiting the Newberry Volcanic National Monument. The visitor center said the lake lodge was one spot for lunch, the other was the resort on the other lake. We opted for the lake lodge. We were expecting a national park style lodge, what we found was a small rustic building with some seating outside and some tables inside. We opted for outside where it was a little cooler with a little more airflow. You order in the building and you are given a beeper. If you are outside, you come in to get your food. If you are inside the waitstaff will bring the food to your table. We ordered their Prime Rib French Dip which was a nice sandwich but cost $17 each. The amount of prime rib was on the low side, especially considering the cost. For an additional $3 you could get a salad. Two days later we ordered a similar sandwich in Crater Lake National Park Lodge, also known as expensive, but we only paid $19 for sandwich and salad for a much higher quality meal. Wait staff was friendly, but you have to do a lot of the serving yourself at this property. The seating area is rather tight inside the building and does not promote the rustic outdoors feel you are looking for at. "lodge". Outside you are on a picnic table arranged in rows, also not really the rustic feel. The sandwiches were good, but we left feeling we had overpaid for the lunch. read more

My family of 5 adults plus 3 dogs stayed at the Eagle cabin at Paulina Lake resort for three nights and had a wonderful time. The Eagle cabin is labeled "deluxe", but it is definitely rustic. We are experienced campers and were expecting rustic so it was of no surprise to us at the cabin wasn't exactly clean per hotel standards. We did some cleaning ourselves when we first got there. Housekeeping is definitely lacking with no attention to detail. Dust, dead bugs, and spiderwebs everywhere, we are assuming because the screens were in disrepair or missing for most of the windows. However, the bedsheets were clean, beds comfortable with no bedbugs, kitchen was clean and fairly well stocked and the cabin had everything else that you would need for an enjoyable Lake stay. The cabin itself was very cute and the views from the large deck were unbeatable. This cabin is also at the far end of the resort and very private with plenty of parking and lots of room for the dogs to run around without disturbing other guests. We were able to bring the boat right up to the water access in front of the cabin and swim in the clear waters of the lake. We had a wonderful time and we will be back. We will just bring our own cleaning supplies next time. read more

It's a little rustic place that you would expect to get an overpriced hamburger, hot dog or the like poorly made by someone working there for the summer. The menu choices were like that but they actually put out some very good food. The fish and chips were as good as you'd get in Bend and everything was done very well. Surprising. This is the worst place I have stayed in that I can remember. The owners call it a resort but frankly that is false advertising. The cabin we rented was dirty, under furnished, tiny, dark, and unpleasant. The fridge and oven were ancient, but not in a cute way, and they barely worked. The owner was the rudest man I have come across in a long time. They call it dog friendly, but its only friendly to the owner's dog. That dog gets to run around barking and chasing visiting dogs who are on leashes. When I asked the owner to call his dog off mine after it ran charging toward my leash reactive dog, he called my sister and I assholes. I really am furious that we wasted good money on this dump and highly recommend that people look at all the terrible reviews and save their money. Oh yes, and it was shockingly expensive too. check out the fridge photo as an example of the quality of this place. Finally, no WIFI and contempt from the owner when we asked about it. I'm a long time Oregonian and have stayed at many rustic places around the State. The Paulina Lake Lodge is not rustic. It is an absolute dump--expensive, worn out and pitiful. We had booked one of the cabins in Sept. There is no heat apart from the distressingly old wood stove (cracked glass on the front). Guests need to scrounge for wood in the wood storage huts. No kindling. Worst of all, they expressly require the guest to use a smelly, foul starter that is kept in a plastic milk carton outside the cabin. We did accordingly and the cabin smelled of petrol for several hours. Not safe for humans to breath. The water as noted by other reviewers is sulfuric--not filtered for this (which can be easily done). Therefore it is not pleasant to drink. The toilet was stained orange by the iron rust. Every piece of furniture was old and worn out. One of the two double beds in one room squeaked. Mouse droppings in the dishes. The living room had an old, worn out futon sofa, no lamps and no side tables. There was no staff on duty--the lodge restaurant and store were closed for the week (end of season) which we were not informed about in advance. The owners are milking this place for all its worth--it is a spectacular lake side location. However I wouldn't recommend staying there to my worst enemy. Better to camp or come for the day. If it was cheap to rent a cabin, some of this could be overlooked. However they are charging top dollar for a bottom dollar experience. Ick!!! read more

Where to begin. First and for most the staff has no idea how to treat their customers. We started our day by checking out the food at the restaurant. We stood there for a minute but the door and a sever told us to just walk up stairs and talk to the bartender up there and order there. This was weird to us because there was only one table in the restaurant. We go upstairs (mind you I'm with my girlfriends mom and her grandmother) and we look around people are outside enjoying drink we look at the menu and the bartender rudely tells us to go downstairs and order there. We go back downstairs order our food. We get our tickets with the food and there is an extra $2 charge on top of the meal. I asked the waitress what that's for and she rudely tells us that there is a $2 "To go" charge. Which one one told us about and there is no sign anywhere in the restaurant indicating so. We get over this crap and go down to the boat ramp to rent kayaks. We paid for an hour for two at $40. We went on our was and we were with two people who had never gone kayaking so we were an hour late coming back. When we got back we were informed we would be charged $80 total for two hours of rental. Which I told the gentlemen talking to me that it was fine. (Turn out that gentlemen is the owners kid. -karens kid) He informed me there would be a $80 charge total I said ok. We left. A few days later there was a total of $120 taken out from charges by kayak rental. I called to get it straighten out and I was told by the manager I would get $40 back and she would call me if there was any issues. 4 more days go by and I called back. Manager answers she remembers our talk and proceeded to tell me that the owner would get back to me but not till they are ready. I asked the manager how come she didnt call me after taking my info down and telling me she would let me know of there was anything I need to know. She was rude and started raising her voice over me before i could finish my sentence and was repeated loud and rude "already wrote that down, the owner will call you" but she wouldn't answer any of my questions. This morning I get a called from Karen and I get to saying hello and she says my name and tells me that she will not return my money and to take it up with my bank for dispute. She is rushing to hang up kn me and wont let me a word in. These people wrote down my Debit Card number on a piece of paper after running my And kept that piece of paper in plain site hanging over the counter by the door. I had asked the gentlemen when he was writing it down why he was doing it a d that they couldn't just keep that. I didnt want my card number just having up for anyone to talk. He told me he would tare the bottom part out and give it to me when we brought the kayaks back but he never gave it back after pointing out he would charge us $80 total. So now I see what you do with those card numbers you write down and keep. You steal money from people thinking they wont notice. And your excuse is "it will drop the charge, that's the pre auth." I've stayed with a group 3-4 times at Paulina and unfortunately I'm not going to be able to return. My daughter rented a snowmobile which is fairly expensive. The rental ran into the early morning hour as they wanted to go to the top of the cauldron for the sunrise. The snowmobile wouldn't start that morning and understandably no one was around at that early hour to get it running. Later in the day I discussed this with the staff and asked if a partial refund could be issued....honestly I wasn't looking for much....just a "here, let's make this right". I would have taken a $20 refund. We had to leave and they said someone would get back to me. They didn't. I sent two emails. No response. Also, one of the guests in our party took a very nasty fall that necessitated a trip to Bend for several stitches. He fell getting firewood out of the woodshed. They should have dug steps into the woodshed prior to our visit and they DID after he fell. As I recall there didn't seem to be much concern about his well being. Sucks that I can't return. read more

My wife and I stayed in the Wren cabin, a small, cozy cabin for two people on the lake for our 58th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful romantic time staying in this old (1935) log cabin with a wood burning stove for all heat. I have read comments of rude staff. Not our experience at all. Don't expect a 4-star hotel. It's in the rustic Oregon back country with mostly very friendly folks. We decided to make a reservation for the following year. But be aware, their reservation system is rather unusual. we made a reservation for the following year for similar but slightly different dates than our stay this year. We received a confirmation notice and number. Shortly after returning home we received a cancellation notice with no stated reason for the action. Calling back, we were informed that a previous renter on the dates of our new reservation had priority so our reservation was cancelled. In other words, if you rent for the following year for the same dates you will have priority. We were bumped by their re-booking policy. So we re-booked for our "dates" and now have a guaranteed reservation. Unusual but it works. Recommendation - if you make a reservation, ask if you could be bumped in the future. Staying at Paulina Lake Lodge is worth it for us. read more

We rented the Jay cabin which was dirty, falling apart with saggy mattress, bathroom was falling apart w/ old mismatched towels. Water smelled of copper. Kitchen didn't have paper towels. We stayed away from this overpriced cabin during the day, only slept there and couldn't wait to leave. Even my 8-yr old nephew said " this place is creepy". He was camping near by in an RV. Built in 1948 this cabin have never been updated . The owner should contact "Hotel Impossible" ASAP! They need help bad. I would never stay here again. It rates as the worst place I have ever stayed. This dump charges $100+ a night. I've stayed at 4-star hotels via Priceline for $68 a night. Up the road 5-miles are clean better priced and newer cabins. Prior to staying here we were in Bend and stayed in a Bungalow that was cheaper and adorable. read more

Our family was camping on Paulina Lake and decided to try the restaurant at the Paulina Lake Lodge. We came in as a party of six and the female waitress seated us at a large table with a nice view. We were the only people in the restaurant except for a table of two on the deck. After several minutes, three elderly people came in and waited to be seated. Our waitress had disappeared into the back and never returned. After about five more minutes, they decided to seat themselves. There were only tables for two available, so our family helped them put two together. A male waiter then came out and asked what they were doing moving tables. He was quite rude and the people told him they wanted to sit together. He then told them it was going to get him into trouble with his boss. It was strange how agitated he became. He then turned to our table, told us he was our new waiter and took our orders. He then disappeared into the back. Next a middle aged woman (the manager I guess) came out and asked "what's going on here?". The elderly people explained they wanted to sit together at a table and the woman rudely told them they couldn't just move tables around. They tried to explain they wanted to sit together by the window. She then told them they could go upstairs and sit outside if they wanted. He tone was scolding condescending. The people then got up and started to walk back to the lobby. It was terribly embarrassing for them and us. Between the mosquitoes and the stairs, I guess they declined and just left. The manager then noisily slammed the tables back to their original position and stomped out. When our food came, my fish and chips was good and my Dad liked his ribs, but half of our party of six had ordered the spaghetti and meat sauce. It was the most disgusting mess we had ever seen. It was actually fettuccine that had been over-cooked to a pasty mush and the sauce was a weird vegetable mixture that was more like overcooked minestrone. It was inedible to even the 10 and 11 year old children who will eat spaghetti in almost any form. I shared my fries with my hungry family and we asked for the check. When we ordered we asked for two checks. One was for a family of four with a female paying. The other was a couple with a male paying. When our waiter came back, he had mixed them up and charged us both incorrectly. The restaurant was still nearly empty. It felt like neither our waiter or the manager had ever worked in a restaurant before. It was so bad it will be a fun memory from our 2014 camping trip. read more

Very, very rude owner - unapologetic nor sympathetic. Our class reunion (46 years) was to be held at Paulina Lake Sept.26-29. We have decided to cancel due to Covid and wild fire smoke. Owner said there was no smoke (contrary to what friends have said who live in that area) and that he didn't believe all the Covid hype. Essentially, he said we are afraid of something that is blown out of proportion, and he doesn't really care if he gets a bad review. Only refund will be full refund less 10% if rented out again. If not rented out again, they have done nothing to earn $1,200+ dollars they will pocket. Will never stay in or near Paulina Lake Lodge. read more

The customer service at this place is atrocious. Staff were beyond rude and I witnessed one staff member (wearing staff shirt) drinking alcohol and smoking a cigarette while greeting customers; unclear if he was on duty. Staff had general flippant attitude. There was one middle aged woman at the front desk who minimized a serious safety concern with their rental equipment and called guest liars when they brought it to her attention. Cabins were not clean and for the price would expect better. Water in the cabins smelled terrible, tasted metallic, and even our dog was hesitant to drink it. Beautiful lake. Lady working at the store was helpful, and answered questions. (Didn't catch her name). We rented the "Jay cabin". Everything was great, very rustic cabin. That added to the charm of it all. The only glitch at all, was the cleanliness of the cabin. Floors were very dirty, kitchen had visible grease and dirt spots. Bathroom floor had hair, and debris buildup in the corners. Kitchen windows dirty. Linens had a musty, mildewed smell. We were able to overlook all of that, being surrounded by the beauty of the lake. We would return, but I will bring my own linens and some cleanser to wipe things down next time! I am a regular guest/customer at Paulina Lake Lodge in the Newberry Caldera. I have ALWAYS received excellent service there. Todd and Karen, the owners, are exceptional hosts. And their staff are all very friendly, competent and thorough. Ben, the bartender, is always friendly and patient. I recommend anyone wanting to go have fun in a mountain setting, you will definitely find it at Paulina Lake. read more

I am floored by the customer service at this lodge. My friends and I visited this winter and will not be returning again after a series of issues with our stay. After visiting, I received a brief email from Karen Brown saying that we had damaged their new table in the Bluebird cabin. Throughout this entire month, I have requested over six times for a picture, as wanted to see what damage she was referring to. I have called and emailed and talked with other staff to please see the damage, and I never heard back. They charged me the labor and damage without even letting me see what it looked like. Additionally, we had some lights not working, smoke detectors chirping, and a large container of diesel, which was unmarked, resting right near the wood burning stove. We did not realize this until one of the employees had to come to help us out with the stove, as there were no directions, and let us know how dangerous it was that it was sitting right there. We felt pretty alarmed, as we hadn't moved the container upon our arrival and we did not know it was diesel as the container had nothing written on it. I have stayed up in the crater for three years now and have used Paulina Lake's cabins for two of them. I'm feeling pretty put out by our latest visit there particularly with this charge and lack of information given to us upon our arrival. I loved visiting here, but I will not be doing so anymore. read more

I was excited to stay here as I saw they had an excellent review raiting. However there were some things that have cuased me to give one of my only one star reviews. Check in time was listed at 3 pm on the web site, I showed up about 3:10pm and it would be ready in 15 mintues. I came back in 15 mintues and was then told it would not be ready till 4pm by another staff member and the web site was wrong and due to COVID 19 it was taking longer to clean. I was good with that. Howrlever while I was in the store I observed a staff memeber aruging with someone over the phone in their little store officw. So at 4 pm came back at and it was still not ready, said about 30 more mintues this was by a third person. About 4:30 parked outside the cabin and at almost 5pm was approached by another staff member saying it would be ready soon as the floors dried. We finnaly enter the cabin, rustic, whic is fine. However the futton cushion had stains all over it and we decided not to sit on it. Ick factor here. Also I am used to seeing notices up about taking care of places and you are responsbile for damages. That is understood. However the way they wrote these notices with workds like "Do you get it." This made me feel like they were talking down to me as a guest. Was not professional in the language used. Also the linen is evidenced not cleaned in a commercial washer and dryer which is industry standards for places that do regular overnight rentals. I have stayed in cabins before,even rustic ones and they are still clean, neat and top tier staff. I was not impressed and will not be staying here again and not recomending it to others. I had trouble finding pics of the cabins interiors I was wanting to rent, makes me wonder if that was on purpose. This place has so much potential I hope it can make it. The location is beauitful and lots of great things to do at Newberry Volcanico National Monument. Our neighbors in the cabin next door were great also. read more

The service was very friendly and the food was delicious. I got the crispy chicken burger and it was quite good, though heavy. Their fries are good too. Absolutely the rudest staff I have ever encountered. PLEASE read the other posts to know that I am not alone. After seating ourselves on the patio of the restaurant, we waited for over 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. THAT'S OK... everybody is on 'Lake Time' and I understand that. The sun was beating down on us, so we adjusted the umbrella to create a little shade. Out comes a guy in an apron to CHASTISE us about 'breaking' the umbrella. I quietly told him that it has a device to allow tilt, and that I would happily tilt it back to it's original position. "KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF IT!" he yelled, and berated us for another 3 minutes. We then walked to another table, when an older gentleman walked out of the general store to yell "That's how those things get broken!" Maybe the owner? Such a surreal event... in a beautiful environment no less. As we could not find a waitress, my oldest son went up the to bar to fetch us a few brews on tap. (We were parched after the 7.5 mile hike around this wonderful lake) DISCLAIMER: The bartender was very courteous and friendly! 1 hour later our ordeal was over, after consuming poor to average food for WAY too much money. The cost or quality would not have been much of an issue... we were hungry and a long way from any other food source. BUT THE STAFF IS ANGRY, AND MEAN. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT! Do yourself a favor and drive 5 miles further up the road to East Lake Resort... where you'll wait a LONG time for your food, but it will be delicious and served with wonderful smiling people who are happy that you're there, and happy to have jobs! I am 58 years old and this is the first negative review I have ever posted. I'll never visit that place again, until the ownership changes... and it will. It'll have to change to survive. read more

We stayed here 6 yrs ago, and had a nice memory. Rustic and beautiful. Cabins are situated right on the lake.So what's not to like? Last week we rented the Blue Jay which sleeps up to 10 people. The cabin is right on the lake, so we loved that part. We found the cabin very dirty. I washed all of the dishes before we used them. Flatware was also very dirty. Some of the window screens had very pretty large holes, so owners repaired by stuffing toilet paper onto the holes. The floors were filthy, as were the rugs. In fact I took a throw rug out to shake it and caused such a dust storm I stopped. The neighboring cabin was in the downstream path of the huge dust cloud. Wanted to BBQ, but there was no BBQ.( Rental comes with.) Inquired at desk and owner (woman) said just take the one at another cabin and use that. It too was a filthy mess. Watched the squirrels chew their way into the cabin by way of the roof. The little guy ended up in our room. Went to complain about this and was told these things do happen. We did take our boat in hopes of catching some nice fish, but caught none. The owner (male) had no tips, but spent a lot of his time drinking beer. In fact that's pretty much all we saw him do. The boat docks are a mess. Nails popping up all over, broken boards and plenty of plankton to cause some serious motor problems with boats. Guess if a person wanted to stay here, I would recommend you bring cleaning supplies, your own sheets (theirs are very well used) and kitchen utensils. There are some plastic cooking tools. not good for BBQ! The coffee maker was broken too. The water is very unpleasant to drink. We only brought 1 2.5 gal jug. The store only sells small bottles of drinking water. The good...lake is breathtaking, hiking is good, but bring bug spray. Here's a tip. Drive right past Paulina Lake and visit East Lake and stay at their cabins. They're clean, cheaper, and the people who run the place were really caring. read more

Great area to hike, fish and enjoy the gorgeous views. Cabins are way over priced and not comfortable. Not clean, not kept up.

Great place to stop for lunch while you see the natural spectacles around these two crater lakes. The menu is surprising with a good black bean burger and some nice Italian sodas, and the view from the enclosed patio is spectacular and bug-free. We climbed the Obsidian Flow, stopped here for lunch, and then hit the waterfall view on our way out. Nice day! read more

We rented the Reed cabin. The staff charged my credit card when I made the reservation 5 months prior, without warning me they were going to do that. I had expected the usual procedure of the credit card holding the reservation and then charging it when we arrived. The cabin was poorly maintained and cleaned. The floors looked like they were installed in the 70's and had never been cleaned. Dust everywhere. The carpets were intolerable. The "fully stocked kitchen" was fully stocked only in the loosest sense of the term. The toaster didn't work. The microwave was decades old. There were only two small pots. The frying pans were scratched and peeling Teflon. The cabin stank of musty mold and was dusty and dirty. Everything is ancient and cobbled together. The steps to the lofts are narrow, dangerous, and not up to code. The boards are narrow and pop up when you step on them. You have to clutch the railing as you go up and down. You could easily break a leg or worse. The sheets and towels are laundered with super smelly soap. The windows are filthy and covered with bird poo. There are screens on only a few of the windows. There's only one shower. The sinks are rusted and the plumbing is cobbled together. The signs over the toilet warn of "disaster" if you use 2-ply toilet paper. The wood stoves are ancient and smokey. The cabin doors barely open and close. There is no nice place to sit outside. The furniture is filthy. There was a dead bat and mouse on the front step and rat poo on the window panes... BUT the piece de resistance was the rats skittering around in the ceiling all night, every night... a particularly creepy experience for the people sleeping in the loft. One day the fellow manning the store spent the entire afternoon and evening at the store counter drinking beer and shots. People would catch small trout off the dock and then line them up on the dock to die slowly and rot in the sun. I personally saw more than a dozen small trout killed and wasted in this way. From the outside all the cabins appeared to be in the same condition. The grounds were poorly maintained and unattractive. We will NEVER stay there again. I suppose if you're a hunter or fisherman and just want a place to flop at the end of the day, it might be ok but if you want a comfortable place to relax with family and friends... this is NOT it. read more

Don't believe any of the positive reviews as the writers are delusional or paid. This establishment is so horribly managed the managers stay in brand new RV's. Our first impression was to have to go through a group drinking shots and beer to register at the store. These are the people who lease/manage the property. The cabin ("The Reed") could be quaint and/or rustic but is instead a bat infested ruin. The rodents are visible through a crack in the ceiling in the loft and their droppings fall onto the bed below. The noise at night is atrocious. The sinks are corroded through the porcelain, there are no words for the shower and quite frankly most in the group did not even attempt to use it. The carpeting is frayed. The joints between the logs are sealed with corner molding, concrete patch or spray insulating foam (you know that expandable type). The wood stoves have visible cracks, the pipe is single wall and the one stove is elevated on wood blocks; I think they may be trying to burn the place down. The docks are sinking or sunk, and the rental boats and motors are not even close to good working order. You get all this for a mere $252 per night. Please do not be as gullible as I was, your family will not thank you. The lessee/manager, who disavowed all knowledge of the bat infestation with a talk to the hand gesture, was not being honest as we found and photographed the poison hidden from direct view along with dead or dying bats. Also please be aware the property is leased to Resort management by the Bend/Fort Rock Forest Service. The Forest Service does not appear to be responsive to complaints against the lessee so you basically have no recourse. According to Deschutes Public Health they have no jurisdiction on Federal land. read more

The fireplace never worked (filled the cabin with smoke ) 3 times we asked foe help they could not fix. Rented a biat for $145 ancor broke and when we cane back after haveinh 2 hrs left they wanted to know ifthey could have it back.. very rude people and dirty camp grounds too bad it costs us over $ 450 and 3 lousy days....... read more

When we first got to our cabin, it was really buzzing.... with flies! Outside there were several flies buzzing. Inside we were greeted by half a a dozen more and about a hundred dead ones laying around throughout. We determined to try and make the best of and I dispatched a few with the ratty flyswatter that was in the cabin. Meanwhile my child decided to kick off their shoes. Within 10 minutes their feet were black because the floor was so dirty. The utensils in the kitchen were still greasy from the previous occupant. There were mousetraps underneath the sink and rat poison on the shelf right above the food prep area. The toilet and sink were clean, but the shelves in the bathroom had dried up toothpaste drips all over them. Went out on the front porch... there was handy pail for an ashtray. I don't smoke, but the previous guests must have because it was still full of lipstick stained butts. Decided to walk down to the lake. There was a nice toxic green sludge all over the shore. This place is disgusting, stay away... unless you are a witch who needs a cup of dead flies for a spell, because you will find that many in the light fixture over the kitchen table. We were excited to be at the lovely Paulina lake, but when we first walked into the Dove "cabin", we were appalled and immediately considered leaving. There are no windows. The utensils are barely usable. Bedding is scratchy and old. Flooring is raised from room to room and snags on your socks. The lighting is scary. But worst of all is the water situation. It is undrinkable due to an amazing amount of rust. It also permeates your shower experience in such a way as to make you feel unclean no matter what. Me and my partner are used to 'roughing it' in certain places. But there should be some kind of 'heads up' for something as serious as your drinking/showering water. This place does not warn you of this fact. I even checked with our neighbors in pricier cabins and they reported the same situation in regards to the rust. Our neighbors told us about a place down the road in which to fill our water jugs for hikes and cooking and such, but the Paulina Lodge did not. THIS SHOULD BE NOTED. If you plan on renting the Dove space, be warned it's only for folks expecting to be there for sleep only. Otherwise, absolutely do not expect any realistic comforts at all. Someone needs to buy these owners out and make it into something that everyone would enjoy to it's fullest potential, because the lake and surrounding areas are gorgeous. PS -The beer prices are bizarre. read more

Don't go to the resturaunt unless you are prepared to have the waitress chastise you for showing up during the "swamped time" (any time that they are serving) when you ask for the ticket after having waited for a 1/2 hour for your meal - we ordered a "low carb burger" (a meat patty wth lettuce, tomato and onion slices) and a french dip. Watched others who arrived after us order, be served drinks, appetizers and burgers before we dared bother the server, who was extremely irritated with us. If they had APPEARED as busy as she claimed we would have gladly gone elsewhere, there were 3 other tables inside besides our own. Sorry, if you are too busy to provide CIVIL service to the people who unknowingly come here to eat, maybe try hanging a sign up or something. We will be trying out the resturaunt at the bottom of the hill next time. Doubtful that we will be renting one of the cabins we came up to look at. read more

Broken down boats, poorly stocked and overpriced store, and extremely rude employees. These people should learn about customer service or they will soon be out of business. They charged my credit card without authorization and then laughed and said "good luck" when I said I was going to dispute it. There are lots of other places in the area to go. Stay away from this dump. read more

Very Bad customer service save yourself the heartache and drive into La Pine. The waiter was the rudest person I have every had as a server. If you don't want common courtesy and feel like being brow beaten down this is the restaurant for you. Only had two choices for dinner and still took 75 minutes to get the food out. The waiter did not bring any water, I had to run around grabbing ketchup from the other tables and then he demanded a 20% tip for doing nothing but being rude to the whole entire table. Fortunately he told us management didn't do the 20% gratuity anymore. WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. read more

We rented a boat, it wouldn't start so we had to carry a charger. The boat was crap the people working were rude and they tried to charge us extra the next day. Will not be going back, keep going and go to East Lake, their boats work and they don't have hidden charges. read more

Paulina Lake is beautiful, but I do not recommend staying at the Lodge. I like rustic experiences, but the cabin we were in was a dump at over $300 per night - definitely not a good value for the experience. If you choose to stay there, DO NOT RENT A WATERCRAFT FROM THE RESORT. Our 2-person sit on kayak rental swamped out in the middle of the lake. The hull filled with water, it capsized, dumping the 2 riders into the cold lake. I found them after they'd been in the water about 15 minutes, initiated a rescue with my kayak and summoned a nearby fishing boat to assist. The resort staff did not even interview us to find out what, where, or how this dangerous event occurred. They drained the water from the boat and put it up for rent again. I made 5 visits to the store to attempt to find out what went wrong with the boat and what they did (if anything) to fix it. The staff person was very rude and aggressive, including physically shoving my friend out of the store. It was such an awful experience that half our party left that night, and the rest of us got out of there first thing the next morning. On the positive side, the staff at the restaurant were very nice, and I heard that the food was pretty good (even though I did not eat there). If you want to visit Paulina, I recommend the nearby campground, or if you want a cabin, go down the road to East Lake. It will be a much better experience. read more
