My family and I used this rescue for adoption. The puppy had Parvo and had to be put to sleep. Their volunteer, Shaunna, called me and told me that I was stupid and that we were puppy killers. She told me that if we wanted the money back ($350) we should have returned the dog and that all it seemed like we cared about was money. They are the people concerned about money or returning the money wouldn't have been an issue. Their website states that their dogs all see a vet. That is not true. My PERSONAL dealings with this rescue has been horrible. Do not adopt from them. They are horrible people that disguise a puppy mill by calling it a rescue. read more

Ugh, I've been putting off writing this review because it takes me to a dark time. But I feel worse not telling people about our experience. We adopted Albie, an 8 week old cocker spaniel on April 13th. Like so many others, we were naive and excited and didn't see some flags: we met him at a pet store and never saw his mother, all the rescue puppies appeared full-bred... But they also seemed healthy and alert and -- let's face it -- irresistible. I'd estimate 8-10 puppies were adopted that day. It was a happy, heady situation. The rescue is run by three sisters, all of whom seemed to care for the puppies, as did their children. We fell in love with our little guy, paid our money and headed home. Albie threw up several times in the first 12 hours, so we called Paw Prints. Now that I see all the Yelp reviews referring to Parvo cases this rescue was facing at the same time, the response wasn't what mine would've been: "He's fine. Puppies throw up a lot. Don't worry unless he stops eating." But he continued to decline, so I took him to the vet the next day. And he had Parvo. Parvo can be fatal if not caught very early. There's really no excuse for delaying taking an ill puppy to the vet. I struggle with why Paw Prints wouldn't just tell us to take him in, but I take responsibility for not following my gut. That's on me. But the next part is where Paw Prints lost their credibility with me. Concerned about Albie, Shauna called to check in. When I told her that he reacted so well to treatment that he got out of the vet in just 24 hours, she told me that the vet had clearly gotten a false positive and was lying to overcharge us. So at the same time she's dealing with all these other Parvo cases, she's trying to convince me that my vet is lying. Maybe she thought we were going to go after her for our $2,000 vet bill, but we told her our only concern was the other puppies that had been adopted that day. We wanted their families warned immediately, as Parvo is highly contagious. I truly hope those people were told, but I'm not confident they were. Shawna was in complete denial that Albie even had Parvo, and reading other reviews, that seems to be a pattern. If she's not acknowledging the problem, I doubt she's fixing it. That's tragic for the dozens of puppies she will adopt out each month. Her operation is really large. We love Albie, and thankfully today he's a happy, healthy dog. Things could've been so much worse, and I'm so grateful they weren't. But sadly, I can't give much credit to Paw Prints for that. PS, If we thought we were adopting a fish, we wouldn't have paid $2,000 to cure him when he got sick. I was really surprised after reading these reviews because I thought I was the only one who got a sick puppy. A couple days after I got Scooby he started wheezing and hacking a lot, I was really worried and thought that I had exposed him to something to get him sick. After taking him to the vet Scooby was diagnosed with kennel cough. I've met a lot of people who work for other non-profit dog rescues and none of them have ever heard of Paw Prints Rescue which I thought was very odd. When I drove over to Yuba City to pick him up it was obvious that the lady didn't care about anything but my $250 in cash. I'm almost positive that they told me they only accept cash as well which I thought was weird. But all in all, I love my puppy and am very glad that I rescued him from them. Its sick to think that these people may be doing this for the money and putting these puppies in uninhabitable environments. read more

My update is written with a heavy heart. I had to put my puppy down after an exhausting five days of trying to save her life. I'm very devasted as she quickly became my little pal. My vet was amazing through the process along with the ER vet that I took her to in her last hours. She knew she was loved and I'm comforable with my difficult decison. What I'm not comfortable with is how this insane rescue is allowed to remain in operation. No puppy should have to endure what she had to go through. Paw Prints should be ashamed of what they are exposing the animals to. All I can hope is Karma will have a role in their down fall. read more

We are so thankful to have Mia, and that's why we can award Paw Prints three stars. A few weeks ago, my husband and I made the trip to Yuba City to pick up our beagle/dachshund mix puppy. The rep for Paw Prints gave me the address of where we were meeting. I assumed it was either a residence where Mia had been fostered or an actual facility. It was neither. We met in the Pet Smart parking lot. It seemed legit because the employees all seemed "on board" with this arrangement. Within the first ten minutes of Mia being in our car, she peed and vomited all over me. I thought that maybe she was car sick. I made a call to our vet once we arrived home to find out if that was normal. She wanted us to come in as soon as possible. I took Mia in the next day and the vet said she was VERY skinny (possibly malnourished) and could have been exposed to parvo. Thank God the test came back negative! Mia was treated for worms and we were sent on our way. A few days later, Mia was sleeping on my lap and I noticed something on her tail. Worms were literally crawling out of her! I was kind of upset because the vet assured me that they had treated her for worms. I took her back in, and the vet informed me that Mia had tapeworms! She also said that most dogs who have tapeworms get them as a result of living in filth!! This didn't come as a huge surprise to my husband and me because Mia was regularly peeing and then laying in it--something even puppies would not choose to do. I started to question everything about the process after these experiences (which I know are NOTHING compared to what others have gone through). The vet decided that we should definitely start the vaccination process over. We agreed. The proof of vaccination certificate we received seemed a little questionable. The vet told us that Mia is not a beagle and probably not a dachshund either. She was "marketed" as a small breed dog. . .but, she is growing like crazy! Now that we are feeding her high quality food and she is on a regular schedule, I think she might even be a lab mix (NOT a small breed at all). Overall, we are so thankful for this slightly insane puppy! I don't know if I would have gone through this organization had I read the reviews before making the call to ask about Mia. But, I did and we are grateful. read more

I adopted Leo from here 3 years ago. I am also sorry for the people that have received sick puppies, BUT Leo is the best thing that has ever happened to our family!. He was just a couple pound baby when I picked him up. I have always been a large breed person, but got him as a companion for my daughter. He's a Pom-Chi mix. He loves everyone and has the best disposition I could hope for. He was and is very healthy. I definitely would recommend Paw Prints Yuba City. Their "facility" is mostly foster homes. Unfortunately, all these types of rescues depend on donations. Its a RESCUE - do your homework you're not taking home a tropical fish. Feel bad... then feel free to donate to the other animals in their overworked, underpaid, huge hearted, care. Paw Prints brought me the sweetest most loved member of our family! read more

My review is mixed, because if it were not for Paw Prints Rescue I would not have my one and only little pal, he is the love of our life, my fiance and I both went and picked him up that day. The good review comes from the fact that our little guy is doing great, he just turned 3 about 15 days ago and he does great on all his physicals from his vet on a bi-annual basis. I just decided to check out Google, before we set off on looking for a second puppy soon, and wanted to look them up again because I didn't see them on Petfinder anymore where we found them the first time. This led to the Yelp reviews that I read and they kind of conflict with my original belief of PPR. I don't know why I'm even writing this, as it seems they no longer adopt out puppies under this name anymore and maybe they've changed names or w/e but maybe this helps others anyway. I wanna start out by saying my sympathies go to those who got a puppy and ended up taking them to the vet over and over again just to see the dog not make it and still had to be put down. As a dog owner myself that is my biggest nightmare to hear something bad showed up on the report from the vet each time we take him in. I do believe that all puppies deserve a good home and unfortunately I could only accommodate two at this time or I'd love to adopt them all even with the inherent issues. So to the review and my new reflections on PPR now. When we got our little guy, Pickle, he definitely appeared to be malnourished, we got him at 8 weeks old, he had a slightly bloated belly and we could never figure out what was going on, our vet took a look at him and thought he had worms in his belly. He never had any trouble eating, but some other reviews mentioned that their puppies seemed to come from a filthy environment, and I want to say that I feel that Pickle may have come from one too. For at least 5-6 months he would constantly try to eat his own feces and we had to keep a strict eye on him or he'd eat it. We researched the condition, and it was either because he had a fear of being hit for pooping in the wrong place so he was trying to hide the poop? The poop wasn't cleaned regularly in his environment so he felt it was dirty and took the initiative to clean it himself? Or he was underfed and lacked the nutrients so he kept trying to eat his poop so he would get the nutrients from the poop a second time, or worms in his belly took all the nutrients so he lacked it? Anyway I would say that it may appear he was neglected during his first 8 weeks. Second we met the adoption ladies at a pet store in Yuba City, which I did not think strange at the time, but now it seemed odd that they wouldn't have a real location to meet us. We had originally thought they were two older ladies and in fear of violent people they wanted the safety of the pet store employees around when they were doing adoptions. Anyway, the store did seem to know them, and they appeared to be regulars there. It is one of those things, you are high on the excitement of seeing the new puppies that your not really trying to analyze the rest of the situation. The third odd thing was they only took cash, we were happy to pay it, it was under the impression that it was to cover the first two shots, and we hope he received those shots. It didn't matter we went ahead and gave him a new round of shots with the consultation of his vet anyway, better safe than sorry. I don't know what was the cause of all the other puppies who had parvo, but our vet told us that the year we brought Pickle home that there was a huge epidemic of parvo, and we did not let Pickle go out much at all fearing he would contract the deadly disease. So had I not seen the other reviews before writing this, I would have probably given the place 5 stars, heck I would have given them everything in exchange for my little guy, but now that I read some of the stuff, it gave me a wack in the head and looking back I could see some of the discrepancies now. I would say buyer beware, unfortunately these are puppies not cars, you don't get to recall them and the puppies didn't ask to be abused either. If there is anyway to shut down the puppy mills from the source that would be the only answer. I don't care where Pickle came from, puppy mill, or the "park" his original owners left him at that PPR was telling us, or even from a landfill, he changed our lives and we're both grateful for it. read more

I adopted my puppy Lobo from Paw Prints Rescue last month. He a bad bout of diarrhea when I got him home (The Paw Prints employee disclosed this when I picked him up). After a week, when it didn't clear up I took him to the vet & found out he had 3 stomach parasites. This was easily corrected with inexpensive medications (thank goodness). Now, Lobo is a healthy, happy, incredibly intelligent 3 month old pup. I read all the reviews & am completely shocked, saddened that so many people had a bad experience. I can't imagine that running a rescue can be an inexpensive & easy job. With so many dogs & cats, one case of parvo can easily become an epidemic when dogs are housed so closely together. That being said, my experience was a positive one so I am writing a fairly good review. I wanted a puppy & went in with a realistic approach, asking many questions about the condition of the dog. I, also, let her know that I would be taking the pup to the vet & would expect a refund if I found that the dog was incurably sick. read more

I have been avoiding writing this review for quite some time thinking that perhaps some sort of legal action or reporting needed to occur. We adopted out Aussie/something-or-other mix from this 'rescue'. Like others, they met us at the PetSmart and brought another puppy (his brother) along for us to choose from. While our puppy was pretty playful, the other little guy looked very lethargic. The representative just kept telling us he was tired, but hindsight tells me this puppy was on deaths door. We brought our guy home that afternoon and were in emergency care with severe vomiting that evening. Our dog had every puppy parasite known to man, as well as several other environmental related issues. It took us nearly a year and SEVERAL THOUSANDS of dollars to get him well. In addition, the representative told us he was 9-10 wks old. Our vet took one look and said he was 5-6 wks. I called to inform Paw Prints of our issues so that she could see to getting the other puppies in his litter the care they needed. Calls to the organization were not returned and when I finally reached someone it was pretty clear she simply didn't care and only offered to re-home our dog (when I said NOTHING about wanting to return him). Something else I would like to note, the representative brought her small children with her. It was very clear these kids did not know how to treat animals. It was darn right abusive and hard to watch and their mother did nothing. As a result, our guy was pretty skittish around kids for quite some time. He was also painfully afraid of brooms, plastic bags and water. It doesn't take the dog whisperer to figure out what was going on there... After all of this, I started tracking their dogs on Petfinder. Always puppies, always listed as desirable hybrid-type breeds, and when you call, always the same story about how they came to the rescue. I am pretty convinced these guys are running some sort of mutt puppy mill. This is only supported by the high 'adoption fee' they are charging for little to no care and no vet. Please do not adopt from this organization. There are many other adoption/rescue options in our area. This place needs to be shut down. Happy News: After a lot of love, care, training and socialization, our guy is now healthy, goofy, extremely energetic, loves people (including kids) and makes us laugh everyday. I would not recommend anyone get a puppy from Paw Prints. We adopted a tiny 10wk old, 5lb border collie/aussie mix from them last year. She and her sisters seemed a lethargic when we saw her but she was what we were looking for and we were committed to getting a puppy since we drove more than 2 hours to get there. We asked to see the facility but instead they told us to meet them at the Walgreens parking lot. I found her on PetFinder so I thought Paw Prints was a reputable organization. She threw up as soon as we started driving away. When we took her to the vet the next day, she had PARVO plus a serious case of coccidia and giardia. The vet said she was near death and if she made it through the next 5 days she might be ok. Talk about horrible news regarding your new puppy. It would cost thousands of dollars to treat her. It was a difficult decision. We gave her several treatments of subcutaneous iv fluids - poor baby.... We called Shauna at Paw Prints and she said the same thing all these reviewers said - it was not parvo. Serious denial to hear the same diagnosis from vets all over California that say their dogs have parvo! A clue is Paw Prints won't let you see their facility. Looking back, all of it was suspicious and I should have known better. Shauna didn't even call back to see if the puppy lived. The reason why all of their puppies get parvo is it lives in the infected area for over a year. You put a fresh puppy in an area that had parvo in the last year, the new puppy gets it! Very simple and they have admitted to having parvo puppies before. You can't bleach out the virus. It is completely irresponsible to continue hosting puppies in that environment. It seems like a money making scheme to me. $300 per puppy - how much does it cost to have the puppy for a week and no vet visit? You will notice they mostly have puppies. I would like to see them shut down. They have no business "rescuing" or killing puppies like this. I will say it's worth trying to rehabilitate a parvo puppy. It's true, they have a 50% survival rate, but 50% is better than 0% when you euthanize a puppy. I am really happy for the few who have adopted mildly sick puppies. You are the lucky few. Dogs are great companions and deserve a great start in life. This many negatives reviews is not a fluke. Please pay attention. read more

UPDATE MAY 29 2012 Our new Puppy from Paw Prints Rescue still doing well, healthy and happy. Our vet honored the free vet exam certificate and records of shots given . This was greatly appreciated in not having to drive back to Yuba City. I still think the ladies who run this orgainization do so out of love and caring for these animals, and not responsible for whatever condition they are in when relinquished by unknown persons. At least those ill or abused have a chance to have a forever home in a more nuturing environment from wherever they came. I'm sad to hear that so many have gotten sick puppies from Paw Prints; we adopted an 8wo lab-mix puppy in December of 2010 from Paw Prints, and he has grown up to be a happy, healthy guy--good natured and wonderful. Floyd had quite a case of roundworms and a couple weeks later got very sick from coccidia, but rescuing a puppy, we were prepared (also, we knew he had come in the day before we rescued him, so we figured Paw Prints probably hadn't checked him out thoroughly and we took him to the vet pretty quickly after getting him home). There are many risks that go along with caring for and adopting a rescued animal, and anyone who is rescuing needs to think about how fast the animal turnover is in many of these rescues, and how vulnerable puppies are when they've been abandoned/neglected/etc. and get their puppy to the vet right away, whether they seem sick, or not. The rescue can't fix the fact that many of their animals may be sick, abandoned, or traumatized, but they should be able to work with people if the puppy is sick (if they know, they should be upfront--and if they don't, they should be accommodating and offer refunds) and should take the most cautious of measures against parvo (including testing, quarantining or treatment). I'm sad to hear that they were so unresponsive if they clearly had a parvo problem (which it sounds as if was quite clear from the sick puppies this summer). read more

DO NOT GO HERE, I have a hard time believing these people even rescue their puppies. I got my doggie LuLu from them, living in SF it was a good 3 hour drive. Initially, the woman Shawna was very helpful and accomodating in meeting with us, so we drove out. She asked for us to meet her in a Walgreen's parking lot in Yuba, we thought this was weird but did not question it then, there was another family there too to obtain a puppy from them. Although I had requested one dog, they ended up bringing like 6 puppies, some so small there is no way they were 8 weeks old. They told us then that the dog we wanted was sick, and if we would still want her. She was coughing a lot, was lethargic, and very skinny. I saw her and immediately saw she was sick. They gave us some pills to give her but I refused. We took that puppy home, we thought we would nurse her back to health, in the car we had some chicken strips we had bought a little earlier, we offered her some and she immediately livened up. The other couple took a dog as well with the same problems, lethargic, skinny. We paid $250 cash for her. Took her to the vet the next night and were told the puppy had Kennel Cough (Bordetella) thankfully with a dose of medication and good food our baby was nursed back to health. We were told she was a chihuahua-daschund mix but today my dog weighs 20 lbs and is very tall, neither feature of either breed. She is 9 months old and healthy. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS "RESCUE GROUP". I will file a report for animal cruelty as I see there are so many people complaining about these women. EDIT: My dog now weighs 35 lbs... The poor reviews on here are very accurate, I too "rescued" a dog from this shelter just to spend thousands of dollars on vet treatment. She was given to me at about 5 weeks old, according to my vet, and was mistreated at her "rescue" organization. They have changed their name to Happy Paws Rescue - ironic you can't find them on yelp, no way to complain. Do yourself a favor and stay away from HAPPY PAWS RESCUE. read more

First of all I am very sorry for people who have had sick animals. I found a beagle/coon hound puppy on line that my husband and i fell in love with. We contacted this rescue organization to see about meeting her. When I read all the reviews on Yelp I was nervous about my puppy being sick. When I talked to the woman on the phone named Lynette she informed me that everything was fine, and the puppy was up to date on her shots. We went to meet her in front of a small pet store on a Saturday in Yuba City. The whole family loved her, so we filled out some paperwork, paid Lynette $200 and took Paisley home with us. A month or so later we had Paisley spayed and sent the certificate to Lynette. Lynette then sent us a money order for $50. Paisley is now a happy healthy 6 month old puppy. I was very happy with my experience with Paw Prints Rescue. read more

My family and I adopted a Chihuahua mix on August 12, 2012. She was about 11 weeks old when we adopted her. Shauna brought her and a few other puppies to the pet store in Yuba City for us to meet her. We fell in love with her right away and paid the $250 fee. She is absolutely adorable and she hasn't had any health problems. She's seen the vet twice to receive the rest of her puppy shots and then was spayed at the Sacramento SPCA on September 22nd. I emailed Shauna a copy of her spay verification and she sent the $50 refund the next day. We are very grateful to Paw Prints Rescue! So sad to hear about the ill puppies though! read more

I bought him for $300 on Dec 21st. He is very spoiled and we are thinking about getting him a playmate. After reading these reviews I will probably not go through this orginization again. read more

I would NOT recommend this rescue. They charge $300 for a dog and I don't believe they really see a vet like their website states. If you are considering looking at a dog from them, please read about my experience! These dogs do need homes, but beware! My family called this rescue and set up an appointment to look at a dog in the evening. The girl on the phone was flexible and friendly enough and told us to meet her at PetSmart, but wasn't clear as to how it worked. We thought we may have to see the dog in the parking lot? Well, when we got there, we went in the store and waited and the girl was over 30 minutes late. When she arrived, they showed us one of the dogs we called for in the adoption center, but they also brought several other dogs we didn't ask to see and even had another family there to see the SAME dog we requested. We didn't even get to see the second dog before the other family decided they wanted her. They say they will hold a dog for you online, but don't expect them to! Since the girl was late, we were really rushed and the store was closing. They didn't ask us ANY questions about ourselves, our home, what we were looking for in a dog, nothing. We didn't feel ready to adopt just then and we went home and thought it over. Overnight we decided we were interested in one of the other dogs she had brought in and I called about it the next morning. I asked several very basic questions including details about shots and background. The information I received didn't match what they had online for the dog. Online, it says the dog was spayed but on the phone she told me the dog was not spayed, hmmm. She said I could take it to the SPCA for spay and would receive a $40 credit. I checked out the SPCA website and they charge $10 for a dog and you put down a $40 deposit to "promise" to come back to get the dog spayed. I started wondering if they got the dog from the SPCA? Their website says they rescue dogs from shelters but on the phone the girl told me the dog was surrendered by the owners (actually she wasn't really answering my question as to where the dog came from and I suggested it was surrendered and she agreed). Perhaps Paw Prints works with the SPCA to encourage people to spay/neuter their dogs and thus offers the credit for dogs adopted from Paw Prints?? I would have expected this explanation on the phone though. Also, online they said the dog was up to date with shots and on the phone she said the dog had ONE parvo shot and we were responsible to cover the cost of the other shots (what's the $300 dollars for then??). Amazon sells Parvo shots for $10. I asked about shot documentation and she said they had paperwork, but they give the dogs the shots themselves. I started wondering if I could really trust this. At this point the girl on the phone must have felt like I was asking too many questions and told me the dog was already being adopted that day! I really felt like she changed her story when she realized I was an educated and concerned person. I really don't think these dogs see a vet once Paw Prints receives them. I have adopted other animals from shelters before and they are always more than happy to answer your many questions about the details or past care, cost, shots, etc. As a side note my sister works at a shelter out of town and she was shocked by the price even if it included all the shots and the spay. Now that I know the dog wasn't even spayed or current on the shots, the dollars really don't add up. Not to mention each dog they brought looked sick and underweight and smelled terrible despite being "bathed". They state the dogs are in foster care, which I assumed meant one or two dogs per household, but the girl I talked to said she was fostering 4 adults and several puppies. Plus she has kids and works full time. At least they have somewhere to stay but it didn't seem at all like good living conditions. Bommom line is these dogs need homes and they probably do rescue a lot of abandoned dogs or dogs slated for euthanasia, but beware if you are considering adopting from them. My 9yr old Daughter adopted a dog from this rescue & it has turned my husband & I off of rescue places.I know all are not the same,but we adopted a puppy the next day she was sick.We took her to the Vets only to find out she had parvo.We called rescue place they said "no why",bring her back if we did not want her.Right try telling that to a child who picked her out,named her,bought stuff for & feel in love with her,so we spent the money to save the puppies life.What upset us was they did not offer to give us some of our money back or give us something after all we went threw.So buy beware. read more

We adopted our chow mix puppy Blue from Paw Prints rescue in May 2009. I really have nothing but good things to say about them. I was looking for a very specific dog, so after talking to the rescue owner several times, we drove 5 hours to pick up Blue. Paw Prints was having an adoption event at a local pet store. I did not find that unusual as adoption events where I live are an every weekend event. I would like to preface the follow as a Registered Veterinary Technician : When we got there all the paw prints staff was friendly and knowledgable. They were able to answer all my questions I had about the puppy. They had all the paperwork from vaccine and deworming history, and they had applied flea control. All the puppies that were there that day looked healthy. I had absolutely no problem paying the adoption fee, and supporting Paw Prints in helping other pets in the community. To some of the other reviewers : Tapeworms are from eating fleas, any pet can get them easily from swallowing even 1 flea it is very common and does not come from living in filth. Roundworms are probably the number 1 parasite in puppies, it is passed from the mother usually. That is why a veterinarian should explain why your puppy should be dewormed every 3 to 4 weeks until it's vaccinations are completed. I have seen puppies come into the vet with owners who have paid $800 to $1000 for them and they have parasites (worms) and sometimes even kennel cough and parvo. It happens even to the most high end pet stores. Frequently. I think Paw Prints Rescue was doing a wonderful job at least when I adopted, I don't know if management has changed, in helping pets find forever homes, and keeping down the pet population by requiring that all their adoptee's be spayed or neutered. read more

I thought I was the only person who had a beef with this place.. Well, after my kitty died my mom and I went to pet smart and stumbled upon there kitties. They let us take out the kittens and I feel in love with a sleep kitty. My mom fell in love with a different kitten and I put them both on the floor together to see which is the most friendly.. The sleepy kitty I liked threw up and the sisters blamed me for theyre negligence. I was 13 and they yelled at me because they're SICK kitten.. (that was with the other kittens before) might get my moms kittens sick... The sisters that run this organization are a joke. They have this off-putting vibe and are oh-so rude. We ended up takiing the kitten and his brother.. We named them Sheldon and Leonard ..like the Big Bang Theory.. Leonard was more laid back, while sheldon was energetic.. I was so happy.. The next morning I woke up to play with my brand new babies and I opened up the laundry room door and my favorite kitten sheldon was DEAD in his basket.. He had died in his sleep. I had never seen a dead kitten before and he was cold.. I cried for a least two hours.. My mom called the organization and the sisters (excuse my French) were bitches to my mom and made her feel like it was her fault when it was clearly theyre own fault. The real owner, called my mom back and went out of her way to meet us to bury the kitten and she was very nice. I would never recommend this place to even my worse enemy.. read more
