Worst Indian food I've ever had. $63 for nothing. The appetizer was mush on a bed of cold chickpeas. The chicken tikka was six small pieces on a cold bed of onions. The coconut rice was tasteless., The only thing good about it was the naan bread. Ordered through Uber eats and Uber eats wasn't the problem, it arrived on time. The food was terrible. When I called and talked to the owner to comp. the order or at least send me something new, like 1 order of a butter chicken dish, he said he couldn't & wouldn't. Terrible service. Dude whats wrong with this restuarant!! I ordered a lunch thali.. and it was literally nothing in it for $16 charge! Except one table spoon of curry & dal and few paneer cubes and a small cup of rice there was literally nothing in it. Instead of spending this $16 on this empty thali I could have gone to a subway .. I am walking away from a restuarant for the first time in my life with a half filled stomach and never going to return to this place. There are umpteen number of other Indian resturants in the town serving decent thalis within $15 and atleast with better taste and quality. The curry was full of water (aloo matar ) , dal was nothing but a broth of tumeric water and the rice served was stale which seemed to be the left over one from previous day And finally an awful and disgusting customer service! When I asked the serving guy , "why the served food was low in quality and quantity for the given outstanding price ? " his response was like " go and eat at some other place or go to India if you want more quantity for this given price !! ".Its appalling to see mumbai masala restuarant management keeping such unprofessional staff with no basic sense or etiquette while speaking to customers .Such unprofessional behaviour is welcoming even more bad reputation to the restuarant and a disgrace . The palak paneer was so delicious, it reminded my of my grandma's cooking. Crispy hot Naan, and the paratha was quite good too. Finished off with some chai and gulab jamun, the latter of which is the best I've had outside of Vancouver's Punjabi market. Not too syrup-y or sweet! We've ordered takeout/delivery many times from the restaurant but dined in this time. the food is always super tasty and visually appealing. We ate butter prawns, Chana masala, palak paneer, coconut rice, garlic naan and papadam. so delicious and very good portions. We had enough to take home for lunch the next day. Our party of three went there after hiking in the North Shore, we were the only customers, but the server seemed more interested in his phone than in serving us. We were very disappointed as we chose the place based on the number of stars on Yelp. The food was mediocre. I ordered the lunch combo (meat), the portion was barely enough and definitely smaller than other Indian restaurants I have been to. The most unacceptable part was that the naan was burnt. This place has become our "go to" Indian restaurant in North Vancouver. I guess we have been frequenting it enough that now when we walk in, they seem genuinely happy to see us again. If you are the kind of person who like authentic Indian food, you will not enjoy this place. We had the Prawns Zanzibar and the Bhindi Bhaji. Both meals we had at real Indian restaurants. The prawn dish was bland and tasted like a jar of supermaket sauce sprinkled with chili flakes. The okra dish was made with tomato paste and salt, not much more. The owner/waiter seams like a nice guy but he is from Northern England so that may be a little offputting for some people. Quite honestly, I can't recommend this place. The naan bread and veggie samosas are brilliant! I love this place and most of the food served here. Been there a couple of times and each time has been a good experience. For a restaurant that's located in a strip mall, it definitely takes you by surprise and you wouldn't expect it to be as good as It was. I also really liked the butter chicken because of how succulent and rich is was. Service is good to match the food. Is it the best and most authentic Indian food? This place hits it out of the park. I had the lunch special which featured butter chicken, with two sides, a tasty bit of salad, lots of rice, and fresh naan. Incredible value for $10. The sauces had a deep warmth to them, without being overwhelming. The service was quick, and the decor is much like the food... warm, and tasteful. A lucky find! read more

We loved our server and the variety of choices. we arrived hungry and left with left overs. everything was mouth watering.

Excellent brunch here last Saturday. We went for a sampling of the street food, including the masala omelette (never had that before and loved it!). The food was excellent, and plenty of it, and the service was quick and very pleasant. We also had chai (great!) and two desserts: rice pudding and mango pudding - both good, but I preferred the rice pudding. I will be back again, and I hope very soon. read more

It's a nice little Indian restaurant that puts a bit of effort into a good dining experience. They have great and friendly service, the decor is nicely subtle with perfectly low lighting, and the food is fresh. Appetizers are the regular offerings from $6 to $11 and mains start at about $11+. The downside is that the higher pricing doesn't match the average flavours or portion sizes. Usually before a movie at Park & Tilford, we'll grab Chinese food at the place next to the theatre, but tonight we spotted an Indian restaurant across the parking lot, so we decided to try it. Nice little restaurant. Family run, it appeared. I looove butter chicken with rice and nan, so that's what I ordered. My partner ordered a lamb dish and he really liked it. My butter chicken was good, but nothing great about it. Was a good change from the Chinese but the Indian in Ambleside was much better. Butter chicken tasted like ketchup and the coconut prawns were rubbery and had no flavour except salt. Naan was undercooked. Didn't know it was possible to mess up naan and rice before this. We were starving after an hour of waiting but I really wish we had just left because eating that crap made me more miserable. Got the appetizer sampler, everything was burnt and gross. I've tried their samosa a couple years ago and it was decent enough so I decided to order delivery to try their curry. I ordered this Swahili influenced curry I forgot what it was called, but my god. It was the worst (and I'm not even exaggerating) curry I've ever had. It was worse than some canned curry mix you'd buy from the dollar store. The curry itself was so damn thick it was like a slightly thinner tomato paste. The flavour was revolting and extremely extremely salty. I had to dilute it with a cup of water and it was still gross. I tried their samosa which I ordered along with the curry and it was disgusting as well. Nothing like what I've tried a couple years back. This is probably the worst curry house you could find in North Van. The owners need to taste their food before they sell it. read more

Food wasn't great. After I ordered off the menu, I was excited for my food. When it came, the portions were average sized, and the tastes weren't great. Then when I received my bill I was shocked to learn that the prices were not what had been written on the menu. Not pleased with that in the slightest. FAN-TAS-TIC! After a lovely morning snowshoeing on Cypress, we wandered into Mumbai Masala (though it took as a couple of extra blocks to find it - and only then when someone Googled it on their iPhone). Seems 'off-Lonsdale' is actually rather hidden! Nevertheless, worth the search! Although there was no buffet on today, the gentleman offered us Thali (mixed plate), with both vegetarian and meat-eater options. With two curries and a dhal, rice, the freshest naan I've had in awhile, salad, and pakora (? or something like it), it was an absolutely perfect meal. We topped it off the fresh chai. The best part (other than the amazing food - and the eggplant dish was my personal favourite) - only $15 including tax and tip! I want to go snowshoeing again just so we can go here for lunch! read more

Read the reviews and expected a lot more from this restaurant. The inside was decorated beautifully and the overall feeling was very warm. The staff was friendly, and the food was delicious!!! The flavours were great. Where this restaurant lost points, was at the portion sizing and pricing. We pa id 11.95/12.95 for the butter chicken and a beef dish. The plates they came in were about palm size and did not come with rice or bread. We had to pay an extra $3 for another palm sized portion of rice and $2 for 1 piece of naan cut in half. This small portion dinner for 2 came to $30. Mind you $30 isn't a lots for 2 people, but we expected more of a portion. We left still hungry. Overall, wasn't impressed. Most dinners come with rice or bread with dinner, not small bowls that could be classified as an appetizer. read more

One of our favourite Indian restaurants used to be Maurya on West Broadway; when they sold that restaurant the proprietors started Mumbai Masala. Food is great with a wide variety of traditional curries and dishes that you can have at varying degrees of spiciness. Basmati rice was nicely done and not dry which is common with a lot of Indian restaurants and the naan was freshly made. Service was on a slow side being that it's family run but very friendly as a result. Make reservations ahead of time since it's a smaller dining room. We'll be back to try they tandoori next! read more

We moved to North Van from Surrey about a year ago and had to give a new Indian restaurant a try. We only ordered take out so this review is based solely on the food and pricing. We found the food pretty bland and almost watered down. It didn't have much flavor to us and we left a bit disappointed that Surrey still reigns king as the best Indian food in Vancouver area. We had the malai kofta and Chana masala. Overall we will not return and instead will have to make the drive out of lynn valley to search for some more flavorful food at a cheaper price. read more

I absolutely love Indian food and am easily disappointed when it comes to trying new restaurants. This is a great, clean and cozy place; the staff is very warm and welcoming! The biriyani dishes are definitely worth a try. The spices are infused into the rice beautifully...paired with cucumber raita is a great dish if you want something light and filling. They add the right amount of heat in their dishes that are perfect for most pallets. The butter chicken and the vindaloo dishes are tasty. Vegetarian food recommendations would be the potatoes and cauliflower also their daal is delicious. I have and will continue to eat here. I love the location start by having a wonderful dinner then walk over to the theatre and catch a movie. Best indian food in the area! read more

Best Indian on the North Shore! We've been looking for a "favourite" Indian restaurant on the North Shore since moving here 2 years ago - and now we've finally found it! The food is so flavourful - every dish we ordered was perfect - the right balance and complexity of spices and REALLY great naan. Generous portions, and the proprietors were so warm and friendly. This gem is now tucked in to the Park and Tilford strip mall, so you need to look for it, but you're doing yourself a favour if you do! read more

We have been to every Indian restaurant in North & West Vancouver. Been to the 2 in Davie Village. Mumbai Masala is hands down the best. FANTASTIC. Nothing compares. Now if this sounds biased, it isn't. My family and I just love it. We used to go when they were on 16th and Lonsdale and am delighted that they have reopened on Brooksbank. As for pricing, I don't mind paying a little more for the quality. Give it a shot. You won't regret it. read more

If I could give this zero stares I would. I ordered here for pickup, the food was inedible. We threw the dinner out; the vindaloo had a few small pieces of dried up meat all gravy. The daal; all we could taste was cinnamon. The raita; the container was less than half full and was watery. As someone who is half Indian, has an appreciation for Indian cooking and used to love coming here if I was too busy to cook, the quality has gone downhill. Save your money!!! And, from a customer service standpoint I called, they said they would credit me back in full. First time here the other night as I had a wicked craving for Indian that needed satisfying. Since I was alone I didn't sample much but I was a little disapointed no naan bread or papadum to start. Most places give a little free tease like that. No worries though and I ordered Malai Kofta (medium) and rice. While the kofta itself wasn't the absolute best I've had (didn't hold shape and was falling apart) the sauce was OUTSTANDING. Best sauce ever. Chunks of cashew, sweet and rich. Man oh man. Heaven. I went here for lunch before venturing over to the movie theater for a matinee. I was promptly greeted and once the server was finished with the group already there, he came over to me and gave me a menu as well as filling my water glass.
