My dad came here about 10 years ago while visiting some friends in the area, and wanted me to try it. It did not hold up to standards from last time, but was still fairly good. Pawleys Front Porch is a dive bar, and has been featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. We arrived about 15 minutes after they opened, and were the first to arrive. Even after us being in the restaurant for an hour, only two other parties arrived to dine. It honestly felt like a ghost town, and hope that it is not like this every day. Their fried pickles are actually pretty good! They are crispy, hot, and have a good dill taste (good pickles). The chicken tenders are good! They aren't frozen, are crispy, and have good taste. The burger was supposed to come with a pretzel bun, but apparently they haven't had a pretzel bun in three years lol. Why is it still on the menu? We don't know. His burger was a bit overcooked and toppings weren't quite as high quality as last time. Our server was wonderful, and constantly came around to refill our drinks and get us anything we need. It did take a bit of a long time for our food to come out, but that's alright. As long as the food is good we don't mind. Does not deserve to be on the DDD list! Traveling through and we were excited to find a Triple D restaurant in Columbia but it should not be on the list. We waited an hour or more because they said there was only one cook. We got our burgers (ordered medium) and they were completely overcooked. I wondered if mine was even beef. I stabbed the meat with my plastic knife and lifted the whole rock solid patty puck. Cocktail was decent and they stock Fever Tree ginger beer so stay with the cocktails. read more

We waited 15 minutes at a filthy outdoor bar. The bar-tender finally came out and looked at us but instead of getting our order got others orders and went back inside. I went inside and said, " excuse me sir" he barely turned around. I continued with, " my husband and I have been sitting outside at the bar for for a bit now. " "Well. You were just out there so I was wondering if you would please take our order?" He fully turned around this time and glared at me and said in a rude manner and loud voice, " Yeah, when I get a second chance!" I was so excited to return, but it's nothing like the "awesome" spot I remember--it's now run-down, dirty, and a total shell of its former self.To make matters worse, the menu was a disaster. I was dying for one of their burgers, only to be told they weren't even serving them because the cook was out. I settled for a salad instead, but it was completely inedible; the greens were a mess and the strawberries were actually rotten.The wait staff was polite and quick, but honestly, with only a few other guests in the building, they didn't have much else to do. Pawley's Front Porch is one of those restaurants that has a lot of potential, but hasn't quite reached it yet. I went on two (2) occasions, once on a Tuesday night, and once on a Saturday afternoon. On both occasions, the bartenders and servers were nice, but slow and inattentive. Both times I went, I had to flag them down for more drinks and to close out. I got the impression that others were having the same problem, as one patron just asked for a refund rather than their order, and another guest looked annoyed and walked down the bartender to close out their tab. The first night I went, on Tuesday, I enjoyed the outdoor patio, but it was a little dark and felt a little too much like a nightclub. Because of this, it's probably not the type of place I'd go if I wanted to converse or interact with friends. I will say however, that the chicken tenders and fries were very good, and well above average. On Saturday, I sat at the indoor bar, and tried all of the establishment's IPAs. I'd say that two out of the three (2/3) were pretty good, and that they had a nice indoor setup. Again, the bartender seemed like a cool guy, but I feel like my beers were underpoured and I was missing out on a sip or two (2) of my drink. I think they were well understaffed, as there was a line outside the door when I left, but many tables left empty as well. All-in-all, I'd say that Pawley's Front Porch is a high-quality restaurant and bar, but they need to get their staffing problems in check, as well as perfect the little details that go a long way in maximizing the restaurant experience. read more

If you love a grimy dive bar like me, this place is for you. It's an absolute no-frills establishment with cheap drinks and funny characters on both sides of the bar. I unfortunately visited this bar during the winter, but I'd love to come back during the warm months and hang out on that excellent patio space. This place is so nasty I am writing my first and so far only review on Yelp to steer folks away. I'm sure its a college student bar because nobody else would put up with the filthy appearance and smell that greets you on entry. We sat outside on the porch mostly because it's marginaly less ghastly than the interior. The service was fine but the food was awful. Worst Greek salad I have ever been served, and the iced tea was barely stronger than tap water. $32 I will never get back. Do yourself a favor and stay well away. The bloom is off the rose. I used to love coming here for a great interesting meal. Today I got a sandwich which was underwhelming and did not even have the advertised ingredients on it along with sweet potato fries that were inedible. They tasted like yesterday's fries recooked. All for $14!! Well I learned my lesson. It's a real shame to see one of my favorite little spots go so far down. Went for a mid afternoon lunch with the family. Waited 15 min to be told it was busy (3/4 of the tables were empty). The students who came in after us "knew the bartender" and went to the bar for what certainly was a legal beverage and no mention of a fake ID. Left and went to 77 where they have real food. If you wonder, look at the faded Guy Fieri poster and then see how long your server takes. 77 has some excellent burgers. read more

Traveling through and we like to check out DDD places. Disappointed in our experience. Got my husband's order wrong 3 times so he just gave up and ate what he was served. Couldn't bare hearing the cook chide the poor waiter one more time. It wasn't the waiter who cooked a medium rare burger as a well done burger twice. The first time he served him a wrap. Maybe it was that our expectations were too high knowing that this spot had been featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, but Pawleys was a pretty mediocre experience. It had highs and lows. The highs were definitely the appetizers and drinks. The loaded hush puppies were incredible. The hush puppies themselves were the same variety you would find at Cookout. The beer cheese and bacon on top were the perfect complement. If I had just ordered the pups, this would be a five star review. We also ordered the crawfish tails. These were ok. Nothing special. For my main course, I ordered the Wadmalaw burger. I am not sure if there was a mixup in the kitchen or if they were just out of the ingredients but I am 99% sure that they just gave me a bacon cheeseburger. It was supposed to come with chipotle barbecue sauce and fried pickle chips. The more I ate the burger, the more I searched for these two features. Unlike Bubble Bass in SpongeBob, they genuinely forgot my pickles. The burger itself was alright. The meat was pretty good but for the ~ $15 price it was not really worth it. I had a $11 burger from the Gamecock baseball game a few nights later that was 100x better in flavor. Finally, I will highlight the drink selection. They have a wide variety on draft. We recently did a fun road trip and we always go to places that Triple D went to. This was a bit of a disappointment. The staff was friendly but the fried pickles were so very salty! My grilled chicken burger with grape jelly left something to be desired. My husband ordered a medium done burger and it was so bloody I could hear the cow mooing. Too, there was an employee that was walking around to and from the restroom ( which we have no problem with) but she was wearing a trash bag over her clothes. In town for a ball game and went here for a late Sunday lunch. Wife ordered a burger and I ordered a BLT. Both with extra bacon. The food was just bad bar food. Neither came with the bacon. My seat had a slight view of the kitchen and the food reflected what was happening back there. I give two stars for our waiter. He knew their stuff was not right and not good and he did his best to compensate with kindness and attempts to fix it. I had the Beaufort burger the other day. I have to admit it was just OK. The burger was dry throughout and the slice of ham that was part of the burger was super thin. The tomato and lettuce were wilted and there wasn't any special sauce as part of the burger; just a plain bun that wasn't toasted or even grilled. My husband and I were excited to try Pawleys, as enthusiasts of Triple D, so we made sure that we included a stop at Pawleys as part of a recent trip to Columbia. The actual physical building was cool . The front patio was awesome and the interior was nice. We visited for a late lunch and the restaurant was about 50% full. We sat at the bar. The first disappointment came in that it took over 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. The bartender seemed overwhelmed, but was also stuck In first gear. He didn't seem to have any sense of urgency. I also couldn't help but notice that the design of this restaurant is poor at best. The only POS system seemed to be in the bar area. The waitresses would frequently wait in the bar area to add drinks, and food to their tables' tickets. There was usually a line, and this would make the bartender struggle to navigate tending the bar. It was crazy. But we ordered, and the food we ordered was pretty good. We got our food in decent time. Ironically several tables left while we were there and we overheard the bartender telling some folks that came into eat that they would have to wait 15-20 minutes before they placed an order. The bartender said it was because the kitchen was backed up. The irony was that the restaurant wasn't more than 50% full at any time we dined. When we paid, the bartender rang us up a couple times because he was having issues with the POS system. One time for a few pennies. He explained that the POS was having issues. All in all, as dysfunctional as Pawley's is as an operation, I was impressed by the food. read more

First of all we showed up at 11 o'clock, when their posted opening time was. We walked up to be told "Sorry, we need about 45 minutes to get the kitchen open. We came back in the evening, ordered drinks and appetizers, we were looking forward to the fried green tomatoes and my husband was looking forward to oysters. First the waitress came back and said they didn't have the ingredients to make the fried green tomato appetizer, we decided to try the fried zucchini. Then the waitress came back and said they just ran out of oysters. I felt very bad for the server, it had to be frustrating for her. My husband asked if they could make him a shrimp po boy. It was laughable, a huge roll with 7 small shrimp down the middle. I got chicken fingers and sweet potato fries, unfortunately the brown sugar from the fries were all over the chicken, I think the fries should have been in a separate basket. Where we sat I had a great (?) view of the bar area, I don't know how the place is not shut down, the floor was awful as was the cabinet I had a view of.
