Great place, friendly service. I've not pawned or sold anything here, but have bought quite a few items. They will work with you on the price. The store is very clean and well organized. I've literally been coming here for 20 years. Everything from guitar strings to guitars to pawning stuff to buying stuff to having TJ set up my guitars. I go in there today because they have a guitar I want they're asking 450 bucks. I walked in with a head for a guitar and a guitar long story short retail value for the two is $850. I knew I was going to take a little bit of a hit they are a pawn shop they're there to make money that's why I walked in with almost double of what the guitar is worth. He tries to give me $60 for the guitar.... It has Seymour Duncan pickups and Gibson deluxe tuners, the pickups alone are double that... I told him don't even waste your time with the rest. I've left good reviews on this Yelp page or Google one of the two about this place being nice I wish I could find it so I could change it. They lost a customer of over 20 years today... People bad about this store all the time that I always say no no they're awesome they set up my guitars blah blah blah I always talk up this store... I'll never even step foot in that store again I won't even look in that direction. If you need to go to a pawn shop run run as far and as fast as you can from this place. read more

New to Portage I went driving around to check out the different stores around town. My boyfriend and I walked in and looked around for a few minutes. We were near the counter looking at different items for sale when a few of the employees (who were just sitting there) started ranting because discrimination is illegal and two of the men said that they should be allowed to discriminate again whoever they please because that's their right as Americans. I was appalled and walked out immediately. I will never go back to a place. It is sad that in this day and age that this is still a topic of conversation. The fact that there was an African American employee there, a latino customer, and a female customer should have stopped him from saying something so unprofessional, but it didn't, and the company will be losing customers because of their inconsiderate behavior. read more

Discrimination is American and freedom means discriminating against anyone... A brief summary of the views of the employees here. New to Portage and was just checking out some of the local businesses, and decided to stop in here with my lady. Just to be clear, yes Kelsey M. is my lady and also provided a review, but I have my own opinion to register on this. Came in and all was well for a few minutes. Cool selection of musical instruments and such. It was a slow day and the employees were kinda just hanging out, no big deal. As I was looking through a bin, an older employee started talking about how a business shouldn't have political views, that they should only be focused on making money. A younger employee told the story of a cake business in Colorado that went out of business due to a law suit from a gay couple that the business refused to provide service to. The older employee said it was nonsense. He said it was America and that freedom meant discriminating against whoever you wanted. My lady and I exited the store quickly, and another young employee said "see? Now people are leaving. Have a good afternoon." As a Mexican man dating a white woman in Indiana, I get enough looks to remind me that not all of our great country has learned basic tolerance, let alone acceptance. But this is ridiculous. Employees discussing the merits of discrimination being a right due to the freedom of our democratic society?!? Out on the open floor with no regard for the people around them? A black employee, a Mexican man, and a woman (I hope I don't have to refresh any of you on the struggles all three of these groups are still embroiled in at every turn in this country) all had to listen to this ignorance spewing forth from the seat of white straight privilege. Needless to say, but should be stated anyway, this is unacceptable and this business will not receive patronage from my lady or myself. DISCRIMINATION IS NOT OKAY. read more

I love this place. Only place in the area where I can get guitar strings, saves me from Merrillville. The dudes there are cool, answer any questions I have. They are nice ,polite, and helpful. I've seen them put up with some pretty crazy people, and they stay cool. read more

Talk about rude! Was Spring cleaning and took a few items, with some value, so did not want to just donate to Goodwill, but did not feel like dealing with CL and they acted as if it was a bother to even spend a split second on me. As soon as I walked in door they said no...ah ok, you know I might be a future customer, so perhaps a little more decorum should be utilized. I looked around anyway and their prices are outrageous. This store is AWFUL!!! I called and talked to a guy named JAMIE, who said he would hold some products that they had advertised on Craigslist for me for a few hours. Jamie took down my name and said he would hold them in the back for me. This place is far from where I live, 1hr 30 mins, but my brother lived about 40mins from there, so he said he would go pick them up after work. My brother went there after work to pick them up (arrived earlier than I told him I would) and when he got there the owner of the store had told my brother he sold all of them! My brother thought it was a joke and then asked to talk to Jamie. He questioned Jamie on why he lied and said he would hold them, when he didn't? The owner said they sold them to somebody else about 30 mins ago and all Jamie did was shrug his shoulders. Not a SORRY, or a "What can I do to make things right", or a "I messed up".....NOTHING! Jamie and the owner didn't even say sorry once and walked away and continued to talk to a different customer. This Pawn shop is a DISGRACE, the workers/owner are PATHETIC and nobody should waste their hard earned money on this dump! They have these worst customer service I have ever experienced and these slobs had nothing to say to make the situation right. I'm so glad my brother wasted his time and gas to go all the way over to this small hole in the wall dump of a store to get lied to and let down.
