Almost 8 years ago, we adopted our dog from Pawsitive Connections. Penny, the owner of the nonprofit found a dog that was very close to dying from starvation. She brought the dog back to her house and nursed her back to health. As a result, the animal we received was quite possibly the sweetest and most loving dog I have ever seen. She has been a joy every single day we have had her. The love and care that went into her rehabilitation was so apparent. Every animal that she adopts out goes through a veterinary check before they are cleared for adoption. They are well cared for and socialized. I would recommend Pawsitive Connections to anyone looking for a dog adoption. read more

Pawsitive Connections Inc is the best!!! In early 2015, my husband and I adopted 2 dogs from Pawsitive Connections Inc and we continue to be repeat adopters and a foster. My mom and friends have also adopted wonderful dogs from this hard working organization. Over the years, we have seen how this rescue gives so many dogs and puppies a second chance at life. Like many independent, nonprofit rescues they do an amazing job with very little support and resources. We have been so impressed by this rescue that we volunteer and donate as often as we can. There are so many things that we appreciate about this rescue. All their animals are spayed/neutered, micro chipped and had age appropriate vaccines prior to adoption. They are not breed/size/age specific and pull any dogs in need that they can safely house. Many of their large breed adult dogs spend months to many years with them. These large breed adult dogs take more resources to support. They also permanently support non adoptable dogs in their care who for either behavioral or medical reasons stay with the sanctuary. In addition to all this, they drive from Kingsburg to San Jose on Saturdays for a very long adoption event day. By traveling outside their immediate area they give the dogs and puppies a better chance of getting adopted. I can't say enough wonderful things about this group. They spend every available moment trying to place as many dogs as possible into forever homes. Penny drives 6 hours round trip each weekend with a car full puppies ready to meet their forever homes in San Jose. Last night I took 4 puppies in for the night so Penny could spend the night in town to assist a family who's new pup had run away. She is truly gifted with these fur babies. When she came to my house today to pick up our 4 house guests, my two babies adopted from PC immediately remembered her! They were so excited to see her, it was amazing to witness. I can't believe how bonded she becomes with all the babies in her care. When I brought my first guy into our family, he started having accidents in the house. Penny spent time on the phone with me brainstorming the possible reasons for the regression and some things to try and get him back on track. Obviously with so many adoptions each week I wouldn't have ever expected her to assist us personally from 3 hours away. I must say I was truly appreciated of the time she gave me on the phone for sure! She is very knowledgeable as well as very compassionate. If you want to adopt from an organization that spends their time love and resources to save as many babies from euthanasia as possible then please check out Pawsitive Connections. We had a great experience adopting our puppies with Pawsitive Connections. We were first connected with Mia. She was so knowledgeable about the litter and puppies in general. You could tell she had put a lot of time, energy and love into caring for animals. We had our eyes on one puppy in particular, but ended up adopting her sister as well! We had to wait a few weeks as they were both still healing from getting spayed. During that time Mia kept us posted on how they were doing. We eventually met Mia and Penny in San Jose and adopted both puppies. They went through all the paperwork with us and were very thorough and professional about each dog. We were so impressed with the way Mia handled everything. We feel very lucky to have found these two puppies, they are doing great with our family and we love them to pieces! :) read more

I know that getting a young dog during Covid is not too different than finding toilet paper on sale when the Pandemic started in March. I took the time to fill out an application for a few of their dogs, and I am a great dog owner with great references and 20 years of having rescues. We had a very positive experience with this rescue group. We met Bandit (now Barry) at an adoption event outside of Petfood Express. We were not looking to adopt another dog, but Bandit was so cute disguised as a girl in his pink shirt. I was concerned how he would get along with our other two male dogs, so Pawsitive Connections let me take Barry overnight to be sure his personality would work out with our other animals. Well, he passed the test! The paperwork was really simple and fast and the adoption fee was reasonable ($250). He is a very sweet dog. Barry does need to work on his potty training though, but we were warned that they weren't sure if he was housebroken. I'm glad we have hardwood floors! read more

Never have I've written a review before! But I'm very upset at what I saw with this rescue group. As I was driving up to Petsmart on Almaden expressway, I saw a male volunteer grabbing a small white dog pretty rough, dragging her, pulling her and flipping her over. Poor dog seemed scared and it was even trying to walk away. As I parked I kept my eyes on this volunteer, he was pulling the dog up by the harness and then pulling it up by its leash. The dog hung there for a couple seconds. He was basically treating it like a toy. I confronted him and he lied to my face. Then cussed at me and ask me if I "wanted to go." I then went up to the other volunteers and complained about it. The male volunteer even tried to say the dog was biting him. Never once did I even see the dog snap at him. She was just trying to get away. The volunteers stated that they weren't watching. They didn't seem too surprised and assured me it would be okay. Anyways I went to speak with a petsmart worker and ask her what their rescue group was called. Employee then told me that they get complaints all the time and they even had a dog die out there with them once. She told me I should report them! I will preface my review by saying that I love my wonderful puppy Peter, but he came to me a very sick boy. In November of this year I adopted an adorable 10 week old puppy from Pawsitive Connections, located in front of the PetFood Express on Almaden Expressway in San Jose. We noticed that the four puppies in his litter had eye discharge, and were told that the puppies had allergies, and were sent home with a prescription of Amoxicillin that they had been being treated with. I took him home, and we noticed that his first bowel movement had blood in it. We took him to our family Vet the next day for a well puppy check. Our vet diagnosed him with Conjunctivitis upon examination, and his stool sample (provided that day) showed Giardia, Coccidia, and Round Worms. This little boy was very sick. At this point, we had already bonded with him, and were not about to send him back to Pawsitive Connections. I have had my boy for almost a month, and he is just now on the mend and beginning to gain weight and have solid stool. Needless to say this has been very expensive and difficult on us. I contacted Pawsitive Connections to make them aware of the situation, and ask if due to all of the expenses we have incurred, would they be willing to refund half of the adoption fee. I got an email the next day from Kelly. They will not refund any of the fee (fine, we don't even care so much about the money), and they also stand by their claim that they monitor the puppies feces constantly for any signs of blood, mucus, or anything to indicate that the dogs might be ill. If they see any of these signs, the animals are not put up for adoption until they're well. While I appreciate the response from the organization, I have a very hard time believing this considering he had blood and mucus in his stool from the time we brought him home, and he just started having solid bowl movements this week... 3.5 weeks after bringing him home. He has been on four different medications to treat his issues, and special food to sooth his bleeding intestines. "I am sorry that your puppy became sick and thank you for providing such excellent care." Once again, I appreciate the response, but he didn't "become" sick in our care, he CAME to us sick. After reading the other Yelp reviews about Pawsitive Connections, I see I'm not alone in this experience. read more

Adopted a puppy in July 2013 from this rescue. My loving baby came with bad eye infection and mites problem which made our other dog infected as well. We'll this may happen and not to blame this rescue but to inform Kelly in person at Petco Almaden after few weeks from our adoption so she can check other dogs prior to adoption . She absolutely denied even I pointed out few dogs were producing white gooey discharges from their eyes. She said "irritated eyes due to hay and wind during the transportation". Hate to give bad review while they are trying to help animals but infection can be prevented. read more

Zero star if it was possible. Jim bob is a very smart pup, but he was never ready to be adopted. He had been in a "sanctuary" with many acres for a year. His only friends were other dogs. He was never socialized with humans, and he had never seen anything in the real world. The rescue group left us with Jim Bob, a family with young kids, without vetting us nor giving us ANY pertinent information about the dog. Jim Bob ran away after just 1.5 days after we got him. He never went to the bathroom on leash, and would not go into the house when outside and vice versa. After a long night in the house, we tried to get him to go to the bathroom in the morning. He would not leave. We carried the crate outside the door (he was 75 lbs plus the weight of the crate), and as we were trying to put the leash on him, he dashed off into the wild mountains behind our house. For six full days he lived out there in the wilderness. Our cameras showed him in the vicinity of the house, but as soon as he heard or saw us, he barked and ran the other way. Our children worried sick for him and cried for days. We worried sick that a bob cat or a pack of coyotes or a mountain lion would get him. The stress this terrible shelter put on us is indescribable. We hadn't slept well nor able to go our normal daily routine for days. We received help from experienced, kind people, who found traps for us and talked to us about how we could help Jim Bob. Even with their professional help, this dog was not going to be trapped. He was too smart for his own good, and escaped twice from the trap. Traps set by an experienced dog catcher who was getting advice from three other top dog catchers around. Once he even came right back and appeared to be studying the mechanism of the trap! The morning of the 7th day, the adoption coordinator of the shelter FINALLY came to our house at 7 in the morning. Penny Pumphrey is her name. She found him, called to him, and within a minute, she had him and put him in her van. I had called Penny for help twice and told her what happened. She showed no remorse, no concern, and didn't offer ANY HELP AT ALL. Penny revealed at some point that she was concerned that we would want our money back. THAT was her main concern. Not Jim Bob's safety. She knew she could get JB to go to her, yet she put us through this Hell for 6 days. We were standing there traumatized and shocked. She just left with the dog who is technically still ours. Without a word of sorrow for what she put us through, not a word of gratitude for all that we had done to try to get him back safely, she drove off with our dog that was never meant to be anyone's dog. Without a word to us. Even though JB spent most of the week on his own, we DID take care of him. Doing what we could to keep him safe, putting water out for him and setting traps to trap him. We cared for him and we miss him a lot. That is not how you treat people. That is not how you act as an adoption coordinator. Please stay away from Pawsitive Connections from Kingsburg, CA. If you do fall in love with a dog from their shelter. Please be mindful of what you might be getting into. Ask lots of questions (we did but got very vague answers each time). I would be interested to see if Jim Bob turns up lost again. If he does, I know the rescue is just pawning him off for profit. read more

With my previous review, I finally got their attention. Kasey was great in researching my dogs medical records and provided my with everything she could find. She was extremely apologetic and explained the problems that had occurred with the other shelters causing records to get lost/misplaced. Again apologized stating that was not an excuse for the lack of response. I would give this company another try if we were ready for another dog. read more

I would give this organization minus (-) 10 stars if I could. So they get 1 star, since the dog we adopted is the greatest kindest dog ever. We feel were lied to by this organization. First we were told our dog we adopted from them was 8 months old, our vet told us he was 1-1 1/2 years old. We were also told he was up to date on all his vaccinations, shots, deworming and we're even shown bogus paperwork on it. Less than a week of having him we discovered worms in his poop, so we took him to our vet immediately. Turns out his last wormer treatment was in July and we adopted him in November. Our vet also discovered a skin rash on him, wherein he told us that the dog has most likely had this rash for months. To include, the day we brought him home, he was riddled with fleas! Pawsitive Connections my left foot! Should change their name to Pawsitive "Deceptions!" But yes, Fred sure is a rescue dog, we rescued him from this garbage of a organization, Pawsitive Deceptions! You guys suck!!!! I'd hate to see these dogs living situations at your location in Kingsburg, CA. People are saving your dogs from your crappy care and treatment! I usually don't feel passionate enough to write yelp reviews, but I am so frustrated after my interaction with Pawsitive Connections I had to write something. I want to begin by stating how supportive I am of rescuing dogs and helping them get adopted, so I support Pawsitive Connections for their efforts in that regard. However, I recently adopted a 7 month old puppy from them and the dog was actively sick, vomiting and diarrhea. It turned out the dog had Giardia, and was also covered in about 30 tiny ticks that fell off after we applied Frontline Plus the night after we adopted it. As a result, I spent a lot of money at the vet treating the dogs Giardia,and testing for Parvo and Lyme Disease since the dog was covered in ticks. I called Pawsitive Connections and told them about mt experience, and was informed that the dog was not sick in their care and therefore they couldn't reimburse me any part of the adoption fee or acknowledge that they made any mistake. So frustrating! To end on a positive note though, we totally love the puppy and he is feeling much better within the two weeks we've had him. read more

My family just adopted a puppy from this rescue a little over a week ago. When we got him, they told us he was 5 months old, and was up to date on vaccines, dewormed, and neutered. We were also told he was healthy and Only had surgery when getting neutered. We had him home for a very short time when we realized he had a deep gash in his belly area. We also noticed worms very quickly. Lastly, the neutering spot looked like he hadn't even been neutered. We brought him to the vet to get dewormed, and it turns out he had two different types of worms, and two infected incision locations. One located where the neutering happened, and another where they did a surgery to fix what the vet thinks was a hernia. Also, the puppy had a reaction to the sutures in both areas, and they did nothing to help the puppy. We have been back and fourth to the vet 3 times this week to get this little guy healthy. This rescue lied and gave us a puppy with a lot medical issues. We're hoping to have the puppy healthy soon enough, but beware of this rescue and the things they tell you about their pets! read more
