The staff at this rescue were friendly in person, and I appreciated their kindness during the adoption process. However, my post-adoption experience raised serious concerns. I was told both verbally and in writing that I had seven (7) days to notify the rescue of any medical issues. Within that seven-day period, I notified them in writing that my newly adopted Persian cat developed yellow eye discharge, squinting, and signs concerning for an eye infection, which is not typical Persian tearing. I also notified the rescue of my concerns regarding delayed or limited access to medical treatment, as prompt veterinary care is important to prevent unnecessary suffering. Despite reporting the issue within the stated timeframe, I was informed that no veterinary costs would be covered, and that treatment would require returning the cat to the shelter rather than allowing local veterinary care. Based on the condition that appeared shortly after adoption, I felt misled by being told the cat was in "good health." While I am not saying this was intentional, the information provided did not align with my experience once the cat was home, which was concerning. I share this so future adopters can make informed decisions. Please be cautious, especially when adopting brachycephalic or exotic breeds such as Persians, which are prone to eye and respiratory issues. Clarify in writing what "good health" means and what medical support, if any, is provided after adoption. read more

Outstanding animal rescue. I talked to Saraha Westphal on the phone regarding the adoption of Gizmo which we renamed Tazziano (Tazz for short) she said to fill out application. That afternoon she called me back and set up arrangements for me to get him. She met me on her day off so i could get him. I drove 2 1/2 hrs. I was pleasantly surprised how clean everything was but most of all how happy and healthy he was and is. Sarah was very informative and passionate about getting all of these animals the loving home they all deserve. Ms Pamela you and your staff run an awesome safe haven for these fur babies. I have a few things. The first cat I got here had a bad paw. She limps on it until this day. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and got another cat from them and this one has a Respiratory infection. I don't have a problem with cats being sick, sick cats need homes too. I have a problem with them lying and gaslighting. I contacted them and they blamed it on stress from moving into my home. My cats are fine and comfortable with each other. Her Respiratory infection comes and goes. I know damn well that cats get Respiratory infections from being in these places so there's no need to lie. I took her in for medicine and they gave me some and told me to come back in a week and do NOT GO SEE A VET they emphasized. So I trusted them. Her infection came back and so did her conjunctivitis in both eyes. I called to ask for more medicine and they told me the seven day grace period was over. I understand that, it's in the contract that I signed, But don't tell me not to go see a vet and that you'd take care of her, just for you to suddenly want to honor that contract. I'm angry at my self for trusting them, my cat would be fine if I just went to see a vet in the first place. I'm angry that they gaslighted me into thinking her sickness wasn't entirely because she was in their care, which happens, I'm not blaming them for that part. But be transparent. The cat was sick, you hid it, you sold her and told me to come back for care if she gets worse. I did and was denied. I would've paid for more medicine if I had to instead of listening to my cat struggle to breathe until her appointment or pay a hefty emergency Vet fee. I still think people should adopt from here just because these cats need homes. Just learn from me and don't take their advice and take everything with a grain of salt. Expect your cat to be sick and take them to the vet same day. Or the next day. I understand they are underfunded, under manned, but be honest and transparent. I asked if my cat was a stray and the worker told me they don't accept strays. It says here on the paperwork that she's a stray. So let's get our information correct because I'm getting the vibe that they will lie just to get these pets gone. They're animals that need homes, there's no need to lie. read more

Adopted a kitten from pet smart through this shelter that within the first day we realized was sick. Messaged the shelter and they said we would have to drop the kitten off for the duration of treatment as they said it was more than likely had an upper respiratory infection from the symptoms. When dropping her off the shelter had stated they would give antibiotics and if there was no improvement they would give another antibiotic along with the first. She would be there 7-10 days. They were great about communication while having the kitten and stated the kitten was getting better. Upon pick up they handed me the kitten without any vet paperwork or any proof that they had the kitten seen to determine the illness or any proof that any type of antibiotics were administered. We brought the kitten home and could immediately tell that the kitten was still sick. Still persistently sneezing and now coughing as well. We called and made an appt with our vet for the following Monday ( we picked up on Wednesday ) because it was a waste of time to send the kitten back to a place that did not treat it and rather just "observed". By Thursday we noticed a small missing patch of hair on the kittens ear. Within two days the kitten was covered with lesions all over which was then diagnosed to be RINGWORM. I messaged the shelter asking if our kitten had been around any other cats as there is no way she could have contacted it through us. They stated she was not around other cats which either means the kitten was around an individual that had ringworm which is a huge health hazard for all the other cats and dogs there or the kitten was around other animals and they just weren't being truthful. Ringworm can take months to get rid of and is highly contagious to humans and other animals. I ultimately ended up getting it as well. In total we are at almost $1000 in vet bills on top of what we had to pay to adopt. It is not worth your money. They also don't do any FeLV or FIV tested before giving the cats up for adoption and have all the cats together in cages. We have adopted from the Fresno animal center before this adoption and they were extremely helpful and we got our first cat for free with no health issues and tested. I get this is a no kill shelter but what is the point in that when the animals are not getting the treatment they deserve and you are paying to risk the possibility of infection to yourself and others? I wouldn't waste my money here ever again luckily we are able to afford the expenses but if someone was looking for there forever animal and didn't expect the health issues to be immediate this may be a struggle for them which they state they will not help with. read more

Wonderful shelter run by a wonderful woman dedicated to caring for animals when other people are too stupid to care for them!! Loved this place because she was so thankful for our help and we were so thankful she let us come in and help!! The kitties and the puppies are adorable and beyond!! So much work is involved in taking care of these animals that have been through some crazy stuff and your heart just breaks and you want to take them all home with you!! But working in a shelter and being around the animals gives off a wonderful feeling of giving and receiving some sweet comfort and a little love.....because animals, especially some of these kitties....give the Best little Love Saw a cat that had Taboulis eyes (my cat that passed at age 19) and it was a wonderful little connection I felt.....but I'm not ready for another cat just yet!! Valley Animal Haven is an amazing animal rescue! I adopted 2 dogs from their facility. The staff are wonderful, very knowledgeable and they care about their animals deeply. They rigorously screen applicants to ensure that the animals find loving forever homes. The facility is clean and they have made significant improvements since we first adopted in October 2017. The adoption fees cover a lot of things that would typically cost hundreds of dollars if we were to do them on our own. Their fees are reasonably priced. They have a trainer on staff who can give you advice, tips and tricks on any issues you may experience while an animal is settling into your home. This is an amazing place, filled with amazing people and amazing animals. This would be my first choice if I ever want to consider adopting another animal! read more

Wednesday shot time gets really busy and there is no organization during that time for the amount of people that show up but they always take care of my animals and they're pretty cheap so it's doable. I really the Wednesday shot situation would get more attention. read more

I went to look at dogs with my mom and all the staff were very sweet. We got to meet a sweet pup and we're hoping to be approved on the application. The kennels were a little dirty but then again the employees are doing the best they can during quarantine. The adoption fee is a little pricey but we'll make due. read more

AWFUL! I have adopted three kittens from here all sick! My first died a month later from FIP. Which the shelter claimed cannot be tested for; it can. The second kitten has Calicivirus extremely contagious makes my kitten sneeze almost every minute his eyes get so gunked up he can't open them. One night he was struggling to breathe because of all the mucus I took him to my vet. My vet determined he had calicivirus when I emailed the shelter to let them know John called me very skeptical of everything I said the vet said. He bad mouthed our vet saying there "fresh out of school and don't know what they're talking about". Insisted we bring our kitten in for him to personally exam or he won't give us our other kitten we paid for two weeks ago. My husband brought him in because we just want our two kittens and take care of them because clearly they are not at this shelter. Yes the test came back positive he has Calicivirus like I already told them! We asked why they weren't tested before they were adopted out. John said they showed no signs of being sick which is not true when we went to visit the animals a few kittens in the pens were all sneezing. John was incredibly unprofessional my husband and me. they didn't let us know when kitten #3 was not able to be picked up the week we paid for him. Side note: when I brought in my kitten to the vet and they saw how sick he was they asked if I got him at Valley Animal Haven. I said yes and they were not surprised one bit they stated every cat they see from there has been very sick. I hope they start treating their animals better there definitely needs to be better standards for shelters. I'm glad I no longer have to deal with these people I just hope that these animals stop suffering like my poor babies already have. They said they won't cover our kittens medicine because we didn't consult them before taking him to the vet. Umm you gave him to us this sick claiming he's fine. I don't think your judgment is very good at all. read more

Adopted a dog here and the staff is amazing. They let you know what's in your dog and cat food and they really know what they are doing! It's a little pricey there but still it's for a good cause! My dog wasn't sick from the place and they kept everything clean. Very very nice people. Don't go to a pet store when you can go here!! read more
