Talk about a hidden gem. I am new to Providence, and have avoided finding a new hair stylist like…read morethe plague (for a good 1.5 years now). I was timid in trusting someone new with my hair, especially since I'd been going to my old hair dresser since I was ten. I was even more apprehensive in coming in seeing tweets majority of the few reviews online were more focused on waxing and not hair cuts. A lady at work recommended this place, so I thought I should give it a try. Lisa M. cut my hair, and she was so kind and warm. The place does not look like the modern, hip hair places you find in Providence now with younger folks, but that's why I loved this place! It has people of all ages and all walks of life. BLHH is not trying to be anything other than just a feel-good hair salon. I'm also 24 years old and still felt right at home, for those who are younger and thinking it's primarily for the older groups. Also best part- I have very thick long wavy hair, and my entire wash, cut, and dry was $35 without tip - you can't beat that. I am so happy with this place, and my new short hair!

My partner who never says anything about my hair said he liked it. Now he goes with me and Al, Bianca's dad does his. Both of us are pleased. Folks there are friendly and the overall atmosphere is warm and welcoming. There is just one thing that makes me cringe and that is a sign on the desk requesting monetary tips.

They always greet you with a smile, make great conversation, and genuinely care about their clients. You never feel rushed and they always make you feel comfortable and welcome. I have ingrown toenails, so pedicures can be painful if they're not done properly. Paula and Leah take such great care of me that my toenails never hurt after an appointment. They are gentle, thorough, and really know what they're doing. Not only are they talented, but they make every visit enjoyable. I would highly recommend either of them to anyone looking for a great pedicure and exceptional service.

Never again. Since this place changed ownership about a half year ago, the service has tanked. It…read moreseems the best nail techs are gone, or I've just been unlucky. Pedicures are still great, but during my last visit for nails, my tech put two of my tips on crooked which happens, but they can be reshaped before the clear polish goes on. He didn't bother and I didn't notice until it was too late. I broke two nails in the first week, which doesn't happen to me, unless it's time for another appointment. When I stopped by to have them fixed, the receptionist said my tech was busy and she wasn't sure if the other (available) tech would fix them for me... What? She ultimately fixed them, but she did the bare minimum to remove the old tip extension and glued a new one on top resulting in chunky, uneven nails that clearly stood out from the rest. She was very nice though and didn't charge me anything. I still tipped her $10, even though she told me not to worry about it. The receptionists have treated me like I'm an inconvenience every time I've gone in, but I kept trying because the place is so clean and so beautiful and maybe I just needed to find my new regular. I'm always polite, respectful and patient and have consistently tipped $20 on a $53 service regardless of quality. Oh, beware of hidden costs. Dip with tip extensions is $53, but I blindly paid $58 and learned this later when checking my bank account. I received no extra polish or other service, not even a hand massage or cuticle oil. I now doubt it was a mistake. Today was the final straw. I had booked an appointment online for 10:15 this morning. I was trying a different tech who was finishing another customer. I had never met her so I didn't know what she looked like, but she ended up being the person who had just finished, got up, walked away, came back out at 10:45 with her car keys and sunglasses and was about to leave when the receptionist remembered me and told her, "Oh, you have an appointment waiting," and pointed at me. Tech came over and said "Oh, what are you here for?" "Dip with tips." She answered "Ohhh, I don't do Dip. I'm allergic to Dip." When you book an online appointment, you have to select your service. I selected Dip. They should have known this would be an issue when I checked in. I had been waiting for 30 minutes for absolutely nothing, because they just stared at me and offered no solution. I stood up and started to leave when one of them uttered something. I said, "I'm good. Thank you," and left. I gave this place the benefit of the doubt multiple times. Lesson learned.

New Years Eve 2014. 9 sessions later, and not only has she done a terrific job with zapping out most of my facial hair (i started very hairy, srsly), but she's really someone I'd be proud to call a friend. She's just so charming and funny. She creates an amazingly relaxing scene, causing for a much less painful and stressful experience. And, in my case, she was so, so helpful and reassuring when I needed to disclose a piece of rather personal info to her before moving forward. Total pro about it. Total cool chick. She's now located inside Primary Walk-In center on Warren Ave in East Providence. Very convenient from 195 and plenty of parking. The front desk staff is equally cool and welcoming, and even a comfy waiting area with TV and a view out to the street. Scenic enough ;) Ultimately the results have been better than I ever hoped for. I will have at least a few more sessions on my face with her, but by now it's mostly finishing up a process I thought would take years. You'll know exactly what to expect because she explains everything in such human terms. The pain of the laser isn't so bad (she's got those squishy stress balls, yeah they help), she's quick, makes sure you're lotioned up to ease the soreness afterwards (at least for face treatments), and makes paying and scheduling effortless. And always timely with appointment times and reliable. I will absolutely make her my first choice if/when I need other body areas lasered. I totally trust her. Would laser with her again. 10/10.

So, based on a recommendation of a friend, I outreached to the salon and got an appointment with their nail tech, Justina. I didn't have to wait too long for an appointment; there was one available the next day. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted and offered a coffee or a tea while I waited for my appointment time. My appointment started on time. Justina was very attentive and knowledgeable. She did a fabulous job and my nails not only look great, but they feel stronger and no longer hurt. Price was on par for what I was quoted at other salons. I can't speak to any of their hair services, but based on my experience with Justina and how I well I was treated by staff when I walked in, I would definitely consider trying them in the future. But, I will definitely be back to get my nails done!
