Payless Squamish - It depends on who you are speaking with. The first agent that I spoke with was really nice and helpful. I called again the next day and I am sure it was a different agent and she was a bit rude. The third time I called which was in the evening, the agent was respectful. The tow truck driver in Loggers Lane Squamish was just absolutely rude. I went there to ask where the Squamish office is located (which apparently there was none as the office is in Vancouver). His rudeness was just very unnecessary. Payless is a big company and has been in the business for a long time but I wouldn't recommend it. I have used other towing companies in the past and I had never experienced such treatment. Go for a towing company that will treat you even with a little respect. read more

Very frustrated, I was in a car crash where I unfortunately had my car completely written off. Such a traumatic experience. My car was towed to a pay less lot. I have been trying to get my valuable belongings from my car including medication that I need. I have called every day for 3 days now. Each time I am told to call back at a later time as Payless Towing are not able to let me onto the lot. Today when I tried again to get the assistance of the Pay Less company the phone agent became extremely rude to the point of aggression. I was told I still could not get to my belongings or my medication. I was told to call back again at a later time. There was no capability to organize a time, give a phone number for them to call me when they are ready. I am instructed to continue to call back at later times and now dates in hopes to find "the perfect time" for someone to let me on the lot. I have no idea if or when I will be able to get to my car. When asked to talk to a manager I was told there was no manager in? If anyone has any help in this matter, I would greatly appreciate it. I am at a loss for what to do here. read more

I was parked at a seniors building and had gone in to get a parking guest pass. I was gone no more than 20 min. when Payless towed my car. I waited with a friend an hour outside the tow lot waiting for the guy to let me get my car. He said I had been parked at the seniors building for hours. He became verbally abusive when I explained my situation as I had witnesses as to how long my car had been parked. I also took photos and a video of his verbal abuse and his screaming at us .So much so my friend and I had to back away from him. This type of person should not be employed to deal with the public, as he has an extremely threatening demeanor. ( we being female seniors). One of our fleet vehicles failed to start after our serviceman finished at a customers home in North Vancouver. After a few phone calls to various towing companies, the only one that would be able to get to us in a reasonable amount of time was Payless. The young lady who answered the phone was very professional. Initially, the first available truck they sent was not able to get our truck out from between the other parked cars and the retaining wall on the other side of the road. This was more our fault for not properly explaining the conditions. However, they quickly responded and dispatched another truck. As I was pinched for time, they were able to handle the whole transaction without me being present and dropped off our vehicle at our mechanics shop exactly where we asked them to. Watch out for these guys. They tried to tow my van from a parking lot in Squamish even though there were no signs anywhere. Then tried to claim some spray paint on the ground said "no parking". IMPOLITE, RUDE, NOT SORRY FOR THE MISTAKE THEY MADE, TOOK MY FATHER"S CAR HOSTAGE , UNFAIR, REMOVED OUR CAR FROM OUR OWN PARKING SPOT WITHOUT A PROPER AUTHORIZATION, DON'T CARE YOU HAVE BEEN VICTIMIZED, HEARTLESS, MONEY HUNGRY . This complaint was sent to the local paper and tv station and we will not stop here. If we do not get any result we intend to go to the court to stop these people from abusing their powers to tow anyone anywhere without a proof. We are not sure where to start but when we hit a dead-end we had no where else to go to but you. My father recommended that we get in touch with you, because we had enough. Flaw in the system or just towing companies taking advantage of the power given to them. My father is a 77 year old man with physical issues. He does have a handicap pass since his severe case of Gouts restricts him from walking far, and his two quad bypass surgeries were pretty recent as well just to name a few physical issues, and not going into too much details he also suffers from heavy depression. He is a kind and polite man and love by all who knows him. My father owns a apartment in North Vancouver and with his apartment he also has two parking spots namely parking stall #17 and #29. He bought this apartment approx. 3 months ago and always parked his car in his #17 parking spot. On Saturday around noon my father called me to tell me his car was stolen from the secured parking lot of this 10 years young building. I found it hard to believe that someone would still a car from this secured parking , specially his car which is not really a car of high value. My sister joined my father and after visiting the RCMP in North Vancouver and ICBC and then the Towing company they found out the car was towed by Payless towing. On Saturday we did go to Payless and ask them why ? The lady behind the counter said she has no idea. We did ask if she could provide us with a name or number of the person who made the call and she said No. We did show proof of ownership and stall numbers belonging to my dad but she refused to look at it and she said we must come back on Monday and speak with the owner of Payless Mr. Gordon. We did ask the Payless reception lady the following question: will you tow anyone s car without a proof ? If anyone calls you and tell you to tow a car from a location you will just go ahead and do it? She said YES. We spoke to the Strata president and asked her why ? She said that she has no idea whom has done that and why ? The Strata president who is also a resident owner did tell us that no one is allowed to call the towing company without her consent and she is the one that is allowed to call therefore she is stunned and will get more information soon. This morning my father and went to see the owner of Payless Mr. Gordon. We did show him proof of ownership of the parking stall which the car was towed from, and I did tell Gordon that he did not have the right to tow my father's car from his parking spot , and only a property manager or strata manager is allowed to make such a decision. He refused to here me out. He said: Me made the trip we towed the car and we have to get paid. Go after the strata or the person who made the call. But still refused to tell us who the person was that made the call, and eventhough I showed Mr. Gordon proof of ownership he refused t refund us or speak any further. Our issue is not so much with anyone other than Payless Towing and all other towing companies. We realized that you can call a towing company and claim someone is blocking your driveway, or taking your parking spot and without any proof they just tow the car , why because they are money hungry and they pry on innocents just because they have to make money. Is this fair ? Is this right ? A towing company has so much empowerment that they can get away with this kind of action? Towing companies do not release the car regardless of the situation, and on top of that if we do not pick up our car we will be charged storage fee. Now we are left with a bill of $102 which we did pay to take the car out on the same day on Saturday. No one seems to care. How can we stop these towing companies from towing cars from private areas without some sort of proof ? We understand the City lots are a different ball game , and the city does not need to show proof. Can you please help us here and tell us where to go from here please? We must stop these towing companies abusing their powers this way. All we ask is for them to ask those wanting to tow to show a proof that they have the ownership or the right to do so. STAY FAR AWAY! AS OTHER REVIEWS STATE THIS COMPANY IS TERRIBLE. This company towed my car which I guess is fair enough for parking somewhere I shouldnt. They preceded to damage my vehicle in 3 locations along the side and after I picked it up 2 warning lights for power steering and traction control came on. I am currently in the process of claiming against them through ICBC, and they wouldn't even give me speak to me in person about the damage they caused. INCREDIBLY rude. I've written 3 negative reviews in my life, including this one. Was absolutely gobsmacked with how rude they were. I was basically a client, I guess BCAA use them for towing. BCAA told me it would take 2 hours, I told them I needed to get back to my car so that was o.k. In 15 minutes I had a call from the tow truck driver saying he was on his way, I told him I wasn't there but could be soon, so he suggested he could come any time and we agreed together an hour would work. A lady from payless towing, I'm guessing in Squamish called me up and LAID into me about not knowing how it works, I was literally holding the phone away from my ear, she said she was canceling it and I'd need to call a new one, when I tried to explain my experience and then how rude she was being she hung up on me. read more

Failed to jump my car when the dealership said they did it with no issues. Tow driver said it was the starter and in fact was just a dead battery! So in short I got an unneeded tow from either an incompetent or crooked driver who suggested to go to her buddy's shop to say they replaced an unneeded starter. Wasted mine and my family's time! Worst service I have ever experienced in my life. My wife and I stuck in the snow and waited for 5 hours. When finally the truck came, guess what, their truck was almost stuck as well. My car got towed away because I parked my car on the side of the street for more than 3 days. I found that out 5 days after it got towed. When I went to Payless Auto Towing to pick up my car. They charged me: $76.09 for towing charge $9.59 for fuel surchage $22.87/day for storage charge total $210.03 after GST for 5 days parking in their lot. I am not pleased with their storage charge, city of Vancouver charges $8/day, motor vehicle act has standard fee $19.xx. I feel they have some kind of hidden fees. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. Towed my car before the time they should have. Called the towing company the guy said " I never make mistakes this is not my problem" I got there tried to explain my situation refused to listen probably because I am young and this man looked 100 years old. Continued to say he never makes mistakes when it took him 3 tries to get my phone number right. Had poker up on his work computer wouldn't be surprised if he just sits there and plays that all day. Said I was going to call the cops he just laughed at me. In the end I still had to pay the fine which is ridiculous. Had my car completely blocked off I asked him to move the other cars he said I could probably get out I said no move the cars out of the way. Through out this time he cussed at me I cussed back at him cause he was being a jerk. We were on a camping trip with friends at Whistler, but we didn't make it the whole way - their truck seriously died, close to our destination. The big question all week was how we were going to get back to Oregon with the dead truck and trailer and all 5 of us. The guys at Payless had a truck big enough for all 5 of us to ride in the cab. They picked up our friend's truck in Squamish, came to Whistler RV Park to get us and the trailer, and Alberto drove us all the way home to Eugene, Oregon! Our friend is super picky about how his stuff is treated, but he had no complaints with Alberto. He was a good driver, fun to talk with, good-spirited, and he put in a really long day, by the time he got them all unloaded in Cottage Grove on their out-of-the-way farm. My daughter had her car towed from parking in the wrong spot. Their tow yard has no office and their dispatch sends the tow truck driver to meet you in function at their yard. We called and the lady at dispatch said 20 minutes. We waited for over an hour in the pouring rain and dark. We called 3 times and every time she said the driver was just pulling in. The last time I called and told the lady I needed an accurate timeline because my daughter was sick, and it was pretty awful sitting down there for over an hour. She called me a b***h and told me that she was sorry my car was not equipped with a heater. I was shocked. Whistler Resort uses this company as their towing company. I can not imagine how good it is for the resort to have tourists calling this lady at dispatch. When the tow driver came 1 hour later he was very nice and told us he drove from Pemberton and had no idea why dispatch would not tell us to meet him there with a realistic timeline. This truly was one of the worst customer service experiences. read more

I had a fabulous experience with this company last Sunday. I called BCAA when something broke with the shifting in my toy truck while I was a good 7km up some logging roads in Squamis. They immediately talked to Payless who was having such a busy day that their trucks in Squamish were slammed so they sent a truck from North Van. There were some communication issues from BCAA to the Payless dispatcher but I got a call right away and that was cleared up. I was nervous that our location and difficulty hadn't been communicated but James who came with the flat deck was a seasoned vet, went above and beyond what BCAA said they could promise, and put us right at ease. The recovery job was achieved in what I thought was amazingly good time, and in the process I learned a bunch from James. There was a minor miscalculation with the bill for extra off-road charges but when I was curious about it the next day I phoned them up and everyone I talked to was super helpful and friendly and honest and CJ in accounting immediately corrected the total. I couldn't be happier with the service I received. read more

Had our car towed due to a blown tire. Tow truck driver had difficulty getting his equipment under the car. His driving was absolutely atrocious. Blew through stop signs and was trying to do the credit card payment while driving. He put the car in our parking stall and left. I went to deal with the blown tire after the weekend and found a large puddle of oil in front of the car. It turned out to be engine oil. The car was put on a hoist and checked. The oil pan had been punctured from below. $1200 to repair as the engine has to be lifted to replace the pan. Contacted the main office and was told the manager will call. He did return the call and promised he would look into it and get back to us the next day. Of course that did not happen. Payless will not respond to phone calls or emails. In short they deal in untruths and do not care about repeat business. Our vehicle has been down for 2 weeks now. I would suggest you push your car home before using this organization. Stay away! Two and half hour wait in -3 degree temperature to get a 5 KM tow for a blown tire!!!! Absolutely unacceptable. And when I can in to ask for an ETA I'm given the worst possible customer service. I'm always nervous when I have to call a tow truck. It's a very vulnerable position and there are many unsavory outfits looking to exploit the opportunity. I was delighted with the service I received from Payless. Nav was friendly, professional and went the extra mile to make sure that my car got out of the snowdrift and back down the mountain unscathed. Terrible, irresponsible, with no moral or ethics! Towed away my car while they have absolutely not even one sign posted for contact or know who towed your car in the area my car was parked. Had to call Mitchells towing company as the only sign was posted was theirs across the parking from which my car had disappeared and then the police since the Mitchells towing said they didn't have my car! Finally after calling back Mitchells towing again, they said it could have been Payless. This all happened around after 11PM where my wife and my little son were stranded with no car and my son had freaked out as we had never been through anything like this and was unusual for him to see the car has disappeared. We had parked where it was prohibited to park after 10PM obviously.They had my car only between 10 to shortly after 11pm when we managed to get to their office by 11:52 where they said they had my car. The operator made sure to kill enough time when I was waiting across her desk so that once she processed my payment, the time would be 12:02 so they could charge me an additional $47 for storage time passing midnight with a total bill for $148 for having my car in their storage for less than an hour. When I objected that I had been already been there prior to midnight, she denied it and showed no fairness. There was another old guy that seemed to have some conscious but kept saying "can't beat the computer"!!! This was while my son was with me and panicked and crying. I take responsibility for my fault however it's about how unfair you get treated by these people who are obviously out there to rob you. She denied that they had no signs posted in the area where my car was towed from, while I and two friends screened the entire area for signs to no avail. I couldn't see my car in their lot and kept asking where was my car as she had told me they had it at their address. She kept telling me they will get it for me. Once I paid, there was still no sign of my car and obviously their driver (Tony) would not respond to her calls and this is all happening after midnight with me and family waiting around to get my car and drive home. Finally after 10-15 minutes, she grabs some keys and asks us to follow her in another car to go to another lot on Amherst Ave where they had stored my car!!! They totally ruined our night for their sloppiness and lack of responsibility to post proper signs so people don't have to call around and research when they are distressed obviously and in need to find out whether their car is towed or is it stolen! Moreover, once we reached out to them, instead of being professional, they lied in our face and denied the truth and what was our right! Stay away from them. read more

This review is for the Pemberton, BC branch of this business. My wife and I had a flight tire and called BCAA. We had the misfortune of having this company dispatched to us. The driver arrived and informed us that BCAA would not cover us because BCAA does not cover 'roads that people can't go over 40 kilometers on'. There was no sign stating that the speed limit was under 40 kph. BCAA has no such policy. He charged us full price. It was literally highway robbery. The driver, Russ, was also rude and not helpful. Please be careful when engaging their services. They have mislead me on the charges; they overcharged by a 40% margin even by their manager's post service disclosure of the rates. I have placed numerous calls asking for an explanation, until I received one 11 days later. When asking for the appropriate refund, the manager, Bob, responded that "they are not in the business to refund any money". When I offered to present him with proof of my claims, including GPS tracking records, and phone call times, he reiterated that futility of my effort. When I suggested that a fair disclosure of the charges before the service would go a long way towards building some customer confidence he listened, thanked me for the call, and hang up. It made sense then why the personnel in the office and the driver had also been quite rushed, rude, and dismissive, and outright lied about the service timeline to justify the grouse overcharge. They are in the business to make not refund money, but not in a fair and ethical way, or with any concern for customer satisfaction. read more
