Our water heater stopped working - and this company had great reviews. And just like others said, they don't have an answering service or voicemail on weekends, but a person! I got scheduled for same day service on a Saturday, which was great. Our technician came a few hours later, and diagnosed the problem right away. The pilot light was out, but also the electronics board was fried. We were happy that we didn't need a replacement and they didn't try to sell us on one. And even though our water heater (Bradford White) is old, they happened to have the replacement electronics kit right in the van. The price we got (including the Yelp deal) was $875, with a little under an hour of diagnosis and labor. It looks like the kit itself can be found online for about $300. We are not handy - and we appreciated that they came right away and had the part in stock. They also give a 1 year labor warranty. So I'm satisfied overall. I didn't get a quote from anyone else, so it's possible I could have gotten this repair for a few hundred less. But I liked the technician and the problem was solved within a few hours - so thank you, Payless! read more

Was my technician and he was prompt (he was able to get to me early which was such a blessing), polite, knowledgeable, and gave me a quick rundown of the problem and a solution. 2.5 hours later he had replaced and upgraded my water heater. Bought a tankless water heater a couple of years ago for my elderly mother and used Payless as they were the only localish company that installed the brand she wanted. The water heater broke Thanksgiving morning as things will do from time to time and called Payless to be told that while the water heater was still under warranty that, surprise surprise, the labor isn't. So we had to pay $800 labor to fix a water heater that broke under warranty. Frustrating to say the least. Also, Payless didn't have the parts available to fix it so they had to be ordered. Ok I understand that this can happen but they had the parts shipped to my mothers house and told us to call them when the parts arrived. This I didn't understand. You should order the parts and when you receive them you call us. Over all they fixed it after about a week of my mother having no hot water but I was frustrated at the process and the labor costs. read more

As for value, I don't know. Our water heater was out, we needed hot water like yesterday, so we didn't shop around, really. The options for the repair were presented to us with zero pressure, so nothing was forced on us, and I really appreciated that. This is a nightmare to share with others. I installed a brand-new Payless water heater in August 2023 at the price of $2845. This product supporsed to work at least 6 years. But it had 3 water leaks within 22 months and caused a lot of property damages (our merchants inventory) plus three days wage loss (I need to take time off) . When it happened the second time, the technician recommended us to install a PFXT12 thermal expansion tank ($432) to fix the leakage problem forever. We installed the tank as per his recommendation but the leakage happened again after 5 months. This time we were very unhappy and lose confidence on their product quality. We requested to return the water heater and PFXT12 tank and get a full refund. The technician called his manager Mike and let Mike talk to me. Mike said they can fix the problem for free but we requeated to return the product and get full refund because we can't afford any possible further losses. Mike did not even say sorry about our losses. Instead, he rudely said "you can hire an attorney to sue us". We paid for the products plus services. How can a service manager be so rude and unresponsible? I am writing this review to warn others about their unprofessional customer service. read more
