It's Sunday after hours, Joann reached out to me and helped me schedule an appointment for Monday morning between 8-10 a.m. Joel showed up at 8 a.m. sharp. I told him the situation and the exact location of the pinhole leak. He explained what he plans to do and provided an estimate to repair/replace a pinhole leak in our copper pipe. I was SHOCKED when I received an invoice for more than double what I was quoted for a toilet install. I was never once informed of the potential for incremental charges, nor did I approve anything beyond the original scope of our contract. This company employs unethical individuals who invent extra work in an attempt to rack up additional charges. Additionally, they didn't properly install the toilet - the tank lid doesn't close completely. I am SO disappointed by my experience with this company. Unfortunately we didn't have a great experience with Courtesy Plumbing. We paid almost $600 to have a cartridge replaced, it took several hours to do the work, and in the end we had to redo everything that they did. In more detail - we reached out several months ago to have a shower cartridge replaced (it was stuck on one temperature). The plumber who came had a lot of difficulty replacing the cartridge. Several times he told me that it was done and fixed but when I tested it out, it clearly wasn't. He also initially reinstalled the shower trim (the metal plate with the hot/cold labels) so that it was rotated 90 degrees off. Eventually he finished, but we noticed after he left that the trim was crooked and the shower handle was loose. We decided to fix these issues ourselves. In the process of fixing those issues, we also investigated why water in that bathroom wasn't getting as hot as expected. After several months we were able to identify and fix a different, unrelated plumbing problem. However, water in the problematic shower was still not getting as hot as expected. It turned out that the cartridge was faulty and we had to replace it again. So in the end, we ended up redoing all the work that Courtesy Plumbing did. read more

Asked for a quote through Yelp the following morning and received a response immediately. Over the phone, we discussed price and availability ($100 discount through Yelp), and they were able to get a technician out to me within about an hour. Plastic mats were rolled out. Old tank was disconnected and wheeled out. Closet space was inspected for moisture before the new tank was brought upstairs and installed, all to code with a new thermal expansion tank and flex lines. Whole process after arrival took about 2.5 hours and I had hot water running again about 30 minutes after that. read more

Abraham was great! I just recently moved into an older home that had a sump pump. I wanted to get an idea of what the life-expectancy of the pump would be. Abraham checked the pump's serial number and year and gave me a good estimation of how long the pump should last. He took care of some basic maintenance on the container and left me with a water alarm in case the pump fails. Good value on the work done. Had to turn water off to the house overnight till someone could come out the next day to fix, which was very inconvenient. Had gotten multiple estimates for the work and this place provided the second highest. Was willing to pay more for quality work done the first time, but was very disappointed this wasn't the case. Lou from Courtesy Plumbing came to replace my water pressure reducer valve due to corrosion. Lou was friendly, easy to talk to and showed he cared for this work. Cleaned up well and was very respectful. The communication with the company's back office for appointment and pricing was quick and efficient as well. Work was reasonably priced compared to a few other plumbers I've reached out to. There was also no pressure to upsell, trying to get you to buy a whole house filtration system or a new water heater, which I get often from other places. Overall I'm very pleased with the work. Efficient, friendly, professional, reasonably priced, and no sales pressure. Lou honestly looked like he really cared about this work and for the customer's satisfaction. I called this company because they were recommended to me by Drain Mob. Unfortunately it was not a great experience. Originally I requested to have the PRV for my home replaced because the water pressure was high. When the technician arrived, he informed me that the cost would be $595. I asked if he would also be willing to help me loosen a stuck pipe and check a leaky sink drain. He agreed to take a look for no additional cost, which he did. After digging for a while and not finding the PRV valve, he informed me that my only option was to keep digging around the property to find it. I could either pay him to dig or do the digging myself. I decided to do it myself and he charged me $185 for the digging he'd already done and said that if I had their company come back to install the PRV, he could try to get $100 taken off for work already done. After spending a few days trying to decide where to dig (since the plumbing line runs primarily under concrete), it occurred to me that it might be possible to add a second PRV if the first one couldn't be located. I called the company back and they agreed that this was an option. Why was this never suggested to me?? Why am I having to come up with solutions myself? Aren't they supposed to be the experts/professionals? I also mentioned the previous offer of a discount and they told me that the technician denied ever saying it. I insisted that he had and they said they would look into it. We scheduled an appt for that afternoon. I called back later to ask if he would also have time to install a shower cartridge and trim for me and they said he would. When the technician arrived, I discovered that none of the information I had discussed with the company over the phone had been communicated to him. He didn't know about installing the second PRV instead of digging and hadn't been told about the shower install. He informed me that the shower cartridge and trim would cost an additional $285 plus $185 respectively, even though I had already purchased a $200 shower kit (including the valve) and done the labor of removing the original trim myself. I decided to find someone else to install the shower. Once the new PRV was installed, the technician informed me that they would give me the $100 discount, but amazingly the cost was now $795 instead of $595. So I ended up paying $695. What a freaking mess! Scammers at worst, incompetent at best. read more

I've used Courtesy Plumbing 4 times now. In 2015 for a water heater leak, 2019 for a broken shower cartridge, 2023 for a sewer pipe leak and 2025 for a stalled gas water heater. All jobs done by different plumbers, all done very well. The 2023 sewer pipe job was a particularly tough job fixed by Lou. The 2025 water heater job was fixed quickly by Joel, without having to replace my water heater, which many plumbers would have just forced. They are my go-to for plumbing in SD. read more
