I had been without hot water for 2 weeks for my "2nd" home. I had restarted the pilot but the pilot would not stay lit nor did my water stay "hot". Water came out lukewarm and I would always need to restart the pilot. I wasn't in a rush to get an assessment as I had been traveling. I finally was able to schedule an appointment with SDGE for a water heater assessment, and when he lit the pilot, he heard some odd noises coming from the unit. He quickly turned off the gas and said that the water heater was "bad" and I needed a replacement. Original water heater of 10 years. He had never heard of a water heater hissing and making the sounds (knocking from the sediment) as my heater did. He mentioned that it's best to go with a small business owner vs. the big box stores (Home Depot/Lowes). I went on Yelp and Plamen's business was the first one I called. As a new homeowner, I was very unsure of who to call when my water heater was leaking. Water was all over the ground and everything contained in my storage area with the water heater was soaked. Plamen ended up drilling a small hole in the storage area and connected a pipe to allow water to flow outside of the storage unit instead of inside to prevent any future damage from leaks. When the job was done, I had noticed that he had scrubbed the area and removed all the mold without being asked. He knew what he was doing to remove the old one and install the new one. The water heater he brought was the same one sold at Home Depot, except he saved me a couple of a hundred dollars since he wasn't tagging on a slew of charges to "be compliant with the building code".
