When you first see the sign outside Pazzo Pomodoro, you get the feeling it is one of those small chains built for kids who want a quick slice of pizza and a soda. Well, the sign is a bit misleading. Tonight was about the fifth time I've been to PP, and I have never had a bad experience. I've tried the Lasagna, Ravioli, Vermicelli pasta w/ clams, angel hair pasta (capellini) with meat sauce, etc. and all have been excellent. I've had the pizza as well and I always love it. The baby clams taste fresh and delicious in the white wine sauce, the red sauce is excellent too. I often wonder if the owner(s) wish they had leased a bigger space as every time I go the restaurant, it is packed full- a great sign. Tonight, I ate my favorite (vermicelli w/ white clams) and my wife had the angel hair w/ meat sauce. We were both very hungry, had to wait a bit for a table and when we got our table we devoured the bread- which is delicious. Our salads were fresh and tasty and then our meals came and I inhaled mine, all while keeping an eye on my wife's. She couldn't finish hers and I took over and really could've eaten all her food, but I didn't want to look like a....well, you know. The service was great- the whole staff truly works as a team, from the hostesses, cooks, to the management and especially our server, everyone is always busy and very professional. Another great time at Pazzo Pomodoro. They have the restaurant set up perfectly for safety. Lots of space. The staff is terrific, they are Covid safe, and a lot of fun in these trying times. I've been here 5 times. The first time I went in December of 2016, it was amazing. Ever since, it's been going down hill. I last ate at Pazzo in August of 2019 and it was awful. Service was bad and my lasagna was cold in the middle. Nothing worse than cold lasagna. It's sad because I live in the area, and this is the closest Italian restaurant. I have to start with the seating. From that point forward things went downhill. We were move three times. Then the waiter showed no excitement or interest in explaining and presenting the menu and much less the wine list. Our appetizers order brought an item that wasn't correct. The rest of the food was ok. Probably the pizza was the best. The Carpacio Di Manzo, Chicken and pasta were not great. I've heard many good things about this restaurant and we finally made it our business to see for ourselves. This really is one of the best Italian restaurants in the area! Northern Va is chock full of chain restaurants. This little place in Ashburn isn't one of them. We started with an appetizer of calamari fritti. When served a dish with half a lemon neatly wrapped in mesh, allowing you the flavor of the juice without the pulp and seeds, I'm already smiling. The accompanying marinara sauce had just the right amount of kick enhancing the flavor of the sea food. Our entrees consisted of a luscious Lasagna alla Partenopea (Homemade meat lasagna, tomato, basil, sliced eggs, meatballs and soppressata) and a succulent Petto di Pollo alla Sorrentina (Chicken breast sauteed with homemade mozzarella, parmesan cheese, chopped San Marzano tomatoes, wine and fresh basil). I cannot begin to tell you how delicious these were! Had my husband and I been able to finish our meals, we would have tried one of their pizzas as well! Since no meal is complete without dessert, we ordered tiramisu and cannolis to go. Both were equally delectable! Because we waited a bit to order, our server was nice enough to acknowledge that and included a house specialty called, Baci di Sofia Loren, or petite chocolate cups filled with zabaione and fresh berries. Absolutely mouth watering! We are looking forward to our next visit where we plan to try one of their classic pizzas and the braised short ribs. I've never had a bad meal here. I'm currently having a lunch special which is filet of sole with salad. It's crispy, not oily and delicious. The salad is simple but good. On other visits I've had different types of pastas which were always cooked perfectly. It's never busy at lunch so service is very quick. Brooke is a great bartender and sweet. I gave this restaurant five stars a couple of years ago, but the last four times we've gone have been less than wonderful. The menu lists several pasta dishes--capellini, vermicelli, linguine, rigatoni. I am a fan of the vermicelli, my husband is sold on linguine so when we ordered at the restaurant I specifically asked for the vermicelli and was disappointed when I got linguine! The first time it happened the manager said that he was surprised I knew the difference because most people don't . Really?? The second time it happened they apologized and said they would mention it to the chef. The third time they just said that was how they did it despite what appeared on the menu. Today they listened and explained the original chef had left three years ago and the new chef doesn't do it like the other guy. He makes linguine even if it calls for capellini! The mozzarella en carozza which was excellent in the past is bland and bonded in so much Panko it is ridiculous! The best thing about this restaurant is their sommelier. Mary picks the best wines at the best prices and holds wine tastings every other Saturday afternoon. Go for that and enjoy the snacks! Well worth the time and money! f read more

My son ordered fettuccine alfredo with chicken, which wasn't on the dinner menu, but they made anyhow, which was nice. However, it was $22!!! I ordered vermicelli with mussels/white wine sauce, which was cheaper than the fettuccine at $17 which is kinda unusual, but whatever. It was excellent and light, but the serving of pasta was really small. That's about all I can say. If money is no object, the place is fine. If you get an appetizer, bread, main dish, then dessert, then you maybe won't leave hungry. But if you go for just the main course, don't come starving. read more

But, someone is not paying attention in the kitchen. I ordered parpadelle bolognese sauce, good sauce but the pasta was a soggy, gooey mess, way overcooked. Come on, is pasta, you have to bad to mess up. Also, why cant they use some decent Virgin olive oil for the table and bread. Is either the lightest olive oil or a blend. We found this restaurant by accident. We walked in around 7pm and it was void of any customers, so I was a little hesitant. I ordered a seafood dish and a four cheese pizza. I made a mistake of not reading that there was blue cheese in their Quatro formagio pizza. I apologized to the waitress and within 10 minutes she gave me a new pizza without the blue cheese. Excellent service with a smile. The pizza has such a crunchy thin crust. Loved it! The seafood dish came out piping hot and delicious. After hearing good things about this place I was hoping this would be a good Italian meal. Unfortunately, after our experience last night, we won't go back...life is too short to eat mediocre (at best) food. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated, but the restaurant was extremely noisy. I could barely hear our waiter telling us the specials and he was only a few feet away. We ordered Pinot Grigio, which was strangely one of the only Italian wines on the list. It was luke warm. We then ordered a bruschetta type appetizer which was okay, but the olive tapenade was so salty I couldn't eat it. For main dishes I ordered the Vermicelli with mussels in white wine sauce, my husband ordered the fish stew. My dish was hot and that's about all it had going for it. It was THE blandest dish I've ever been served in a restaurant. The "sauce" was wine and water. No garlic or other detectable seasonings other than a few bits of parsley. The mussels were overcooked. The pasta was cooked well but tasteless. I actually had to salt the entire thing to make it somewhat palatable. I didn't come close to finishing. My husband reported his fish stew was "just ok", not very flavorful and definitely lacking in substance...only a few pieces of pasta to fill in. We then ordered dessert, which was a mistake. We ordered the tiramisu and cannoli; the tiramisu was mushy and the cannoli tasted old and stale. The ONLY reason I'm giving this 2 stars instead of just 1 is the staff was kind and accommodating. Our total bill with tip was $100 for one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. It's almost unbelievable that we paid that amount and walked away hungry and extremely disappointed. read more

Constant companion and I had an urge for Italian and decided to give Pazzo a try. We had a reservation and after a minimal wait were shown to a nice table in the back area. Tables were spaced out and mostly full. The atmosphere was pleasant and it was nice to see people having a good time. Service was excellent; waiter and support staff made sure we didn't run out of drinks or any other necessities. We split a caesar salad, a very generous portion unfortunately the salad was very dry and lacked any real flavor. Entrees arrived after a bit of a wait and again the portion sizes were very generous but once again both lacked any real flavor; each needed large doses of Parmesan cheese just to have any flavor. Eggplant Parm and Cavatelli with sausage...one positive was the Italian bread for the table was very good. The dessert menu looked really good but we decided to pass. Overall, Pazzo didn't meet our expectations, service got the score to three stars, and will not be included in our rotation. Pazzo Pomodoro was A-OK. I would go back there to eat again, but it wasn't so spectacular to outrank some other local places and make me want to come here instead of there. Noise level was pretty loud, but we were at least able to hear each other across the table and were able to communicate with our waiter. Service was friendly although not prompt. It wasn't slow by any means, but there were several instances I was wondering when we were going to see our waiter again. The food was enjoyable. Nothing to write home to Mom about, but it was good. We started off with the caprese salad and lobster bisque. I had the lobster ravioli special and my wife had the spaghetti and meatballs. My food was fine. My wife said the meatballs were very good. Prices were about average for the area - mid teens for most pasta dishes, low twenties for higher end meat dishes. Everything on the menu looked and sounded good, and I had a hard time deciding what to order. I know the place is still pretty new / just recently opened. I suspect we'll be back again sometime soon to give it another shot and try something else on the menu. read more
