We had a date night dinner at Echelon that was truly excellent. The bartender, who was also our waiter on a Wednesday evening, recommended the grits with poached egg and the rigatoni with lamb ragú, which were both excellent. We also had the shishito pepper appetizer that was presented nicely and better than we had anticipated. Add to the good food a tasty impromptu mocktail (based on a Tequila sunrise) for the non-drinking half of us, and two tasty glasses of wine for the designated passenger, (a Spanish Rioja Gran Reserva and a Yakima Valley Merlot blend), and we left truly glad we'd come. VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE. We had family come in from Texas and we were wanting to treat them to a great experience in Leesburg. We saw pictures of the Escelon and it looked like the perfect ambiance for us. We were mistaken and we should NOT have come here. The five us chose to do the $50 restaurant week course with the added $25 wine pairings. When we saw that the line up came with a sweet wine, we politely asked the server if there was any way to switch that specific pour for another wine. She immediately said it was "not possible". The wine sat there untouched. Mind you, we had purchased a full bottle for the table along with the added wine pairings. It was a simple modification for 3 OUNCE pours. Ridiculous. The pours were also inconsistent. The first two courses and wine pairings were exceptional and delicious. As was our appetizer and bottle of wine. When it came to the last course, the dessert. It really left a bad taste in our mouths. The crème brûlée looked like scrambled eggs. It was runny and lumpy. It looked more like cottage cheese than a custard. Like the sweet wine, we all left it untouched. We explained our grievances to the server and she said that she would not tell the chef because he was "sensitive" and she was too afraid of him. As a former server myself, I couldn't help but be upset. When it comes to customer service, your job is to have your guests leave happy and wanting to come back. That was absolutely not the case for us. The fact that we spent $600 for such a horrible experience is laughable. Don't waste your money! read more

The ambiance was wonderful as was the entree. Service was subpar with very little attentiveness and sadly, the creme brulee was a disaster. Wish I had photographed it for reference, but the person who plated the five creme brulee plates wohld have clearly seen how bad it was. It was flat, runny and clearly not a firm smooth custard. They were returned not eaten. The tables next to us had great looking creme brulee, but maybe ours was from a "different" batch. I asked the server if she had shared our ending experience with the chef and she said he was sensitive and not open to negative comments about the food. We were a table of 5 with a $600 closing bill. I wish they had been more receptive to providing a great dining experience throughout the evening as we came with eager hearts, hearty apetites and open wallets. As a family of color, it comes natural to wonder if our skin pigment affected the level of service and effort put into our dining experience. read more

First the food: 1) it comes out ready made and in courses so if you order from all parts of the menu it's like you're having a 4-5 course meal 2) we ordered the tri tips, patatas bravas, Icelandic cod, and strawberry salad 3) the strawberry salad was not a salad at all but a mash and there were no greens. It was not sweet and more savory, which I don't mind in fruit salads. I just wish it didn't taste like I was eating pickled flowers. Don't recommend 4) the Icelandic cod was soo good - flavorful but salty (I'm salt sensitive). I love the fried rice base and the fish was light and airy 3) you cannot go wrong with potato wedges and sauce ! Will order again 4) the tips were the star of the show ! Absolutely knockout and soo good! We will certainly come back when I'm not pregnant so I can order a wine! Instead they made me a mocktail was so soo sweet of them and delicious. read more

I want to express that this is still my favorite winery. Every time that we've been to lost Creek/Echelon the customer service is out of this world. The executive chefs are amazing and you can tell they take pride at what they do. The decor and the atmosphere has always been pleasant. Trinity is my favorite wine It's sweet and has a smoky/pepper taste to it. If that's up your alley. You should definitely give that a try and take a bottle or two to go like I always do. Very sad to say we didn't have the same experience we've had in the past. Still a great atmosphere and waitress was very nice. The food was just awful. Burrata was a strange set up, Barvas had no flavor, and the lamb meatballs (3 small at $28) were not good either. Charcuterie board was standard and fine. Wine was the best part of the meal! No menu item should have been over $20...pretty much the standard for tapas type food. Really a bummer because we loved this place and used to frequent it often. read more

A different dining experience, starting with the steps going downstairs to get to the entrance. This was one of the most interesting and delicious meals we have had in a long time. The three of us shared a number of small bites, each was a good size to go three ways. We had the burrata, the fried polenta, and the bbq squash. We then shared the halibut, chicken croquettes and the squid ink linguine. The Lost Creek Cabernet Franc was exceptional. We shared the olive oil cake, served warm with a mango sauce that went well with a glass of Malbec. Went there for an anniversary dinner. 8 PM reservation was the right move as we missed the Saturday evening rush. Another key move is sitting at the bar where we were expertly taken care of. Wife has gluten and dairy issues, so we essentially turned our evening over to the chef for the tasting menu with all dietary challenges address flawlessly. Wine pairings were perfect too. Ambiance is great the place has so much potential. However the food and kitchen are not aligned after ordering the entree 10-15 minutes later the server tells me their are out of it. There are only 3 choices on the menu. Following that then someone comes from kitchen to serve me what they were out of and I ordered something else. Absolutely phenomenal! My husband and I did the chef's tasting and wine pairing and the food and wine exceeded my expectations. I was a little worried about what we were going to be served to eat since we couldn't view the menu ahead of time, but everything was so delicious. Our four courses included fried polenta, a pulled chicken meatball thing, steak and potatoes, and hazelnut tiramisu. 3 of the 4 wines were more dry (which we prefer), and the 4th was a dessert wine which wasn't too sweet, so it was perfect for us. 10/10 would eat here again! read more

Updating since things have evolved here since the opening days in the middle of COVID and we now have tried them as takeout, dining in downstairs, and outside on King Street. If you love wine and high quality food just go. This is a great add to the Leesburg food scene. Echelon is owned and connected with the Winery at Lost Creek. We love their red wines, in particular, but if they are not your thing do not worry. Echelon has a very strong wine list. The wine bar is downstairs which as first gives you the feel of a speakeasy, but the set up is very modern. Overall vibe is professional adult, but with a relaxed, not stuffy experience. Service is excellent. The food is amazing and pairs well with the available wines. You can't go wrong ever with their cheese and charcuterie boards to start. Came here for Father's Day and we ordered the entire menu, twice. I was at first hesitant on trying this place since I assumed most wine bars focus on the food secondary to the wine. However, I was impressed by the inventiveness and tastiness of every dish. My highlights were the parmesan grits, the scallops, and the asparagus risotto. The charcuterie board was fantastic-- the Jam was super memorable. The crowd favorite for dessert was the olive oil cake (you need to try it). The patatas bravas were good but a little too crunchy and overcooked for my taste. Everything else on the menu was phenomenal. OMG this place that we just stumbled upon! I love the underground dark lounge-y vibe. And the service and wines were all good. But the FOOD. I thought I chose a pretty awesome dish in the she-crab soup. But then when I ate the brussel sprout-truffle-soft egg-cheesey grits, I was done. I could've ordered another serving of that and just had a happy night. When I gave my partner a bite, he was beyond upset that he chose a different appetizer. This is a MUST try for everyone who visits!!!! The sausage-and-mussels was pretty good, though I definitely had to order more bread than the one thin piece they gave you to sop up the delicious sauce. And the dessert was pretty good too--the olive oil skillet cake would have been just fine, but they added dark bourbon-infused cocktail cherries that just sent it over the top. Echelon has been on my list since being recommended by both Lost Creek Winery (phenomenal) and an employee at Total Wine in Sterling. My husband and I finally found ourselves kid-free on the Friday before Memorial Day and spontaneously headed to Echelon. We had no problem getting a table around 5p and sat right near the wine cellar, which was very pretty to look at and had some cool old bottles (including a port bottle we recognized from our trip to Portugal last summer). We ordered the strawberry burrata, which remains a highlight among food I've ever eaten. Apparently this is a seasonal offering and the burrata changes with each season. I am definitely returning before Fall, I can't stop thinking about it! I ordered a white flight and was pleased I could select any white or rosé including sparkling (my favorite). I got the Cava, Brut Rose, and Pullus Pinot Grigio. The Pullus was the most interesting wine - 72 hour skin contact - and smelled (and tasted) amazing. My husband got a reserve flight (white Burgundy, Cab, Gigondas) and all were wonderful, particularly the Cab. My husband also had a glass of Messias Port and really enjoyed it. I'm not a huge port fan, but I tasted it and it was smooth and not too sweet. I think this might be our new local date night spot! read more

Love the ambiance and wine but it's overpriced and don't dare pay for one of their events unless you want to lose your money. We paid $300 for a special Valentines dinner and when we came down with the flu they wouldn't reimburse us nor would they provide takeout. As you enter the door of Echelon you immediately descend to steps that lead you to an underground Soho bar right out of NYC! The decor is beautiful and very minimalist, a perfect choice. The wine I choose went beautifully with all the plates my party of four choose. The wine selection is wonderful and allows for all tastes. The menu is absolutely fantastic with both bold and delicate flavors. Each dish has been painstakingly prepared so that each ingredient can be tasted individually. Last night was the first time we went to the Echelon Urban Wine Bar. The decor is sophisticated and elegant--modern yet warm, with tasteful touches that create an inviting atmosphere. The food is nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish is a masterpiece, beautifully plated and bursting with flavor. I highly recommend the arancini, the halibut, the bolognese, and the wagyu which were standouts on the menu! The Lost Creek Allure wine was delicious and the creamy espresso martinis were unbelievable! The service staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly without being intrusive. You don't even feel like you are in Leesburg, Va but some very chic cosmopolitan place. The very best meal I have had in Virginia. I have been three times and they consistently have delicious meals. Ambiance- 5 stars- so tastefully designed. I can't believe it used to be the basement of a musty old second hand shop. Food- 4.75 stars- each dish is better than the next. The tuna tartar special was the best tartar I've ever had. The pork belly's bark is nice and crispy while the inside is soft and scrumptious. Everything is delicious with deep flavors. My only complaint over 3 visits is the bacon wrapped scallops special was dry and over cooked. Their scallops on the menu are consistently well cooked and yummy. The drinks- they have affordable glasses and bottles of wine!!! Only improvement I could suggest is to have a pre-dinner cocktail menu. Service has always been a 5! Killed the vibe right away. Could have sat them elsewhere. I wish places like this had a dress code. I realize it's more about people having a little class. Need to decide if this is more like a casual brewery or an upscale wine bar. I'm not a foodie or wine connoisseur. But I have had amazing wine and dinners all over the world. Had the chef dinner with wine pairing. Not Impressed with the wine. First course was an attempt at a type gazpacho with heat. Tasted the heat but not much else. 2nd course was almost like another soup with Udon noodles. Fairly bland. 3rd course was hangar steak, asparagus and a potato dish. Hangar steak was tender and cooked perfectly. Dessert was something with a nougat ? Our server couldn't describe the dessert but we heard another server describe it. It wS ok but too much "nougat". Wine was poured well before food course served. So we start sipping the wine before the pairing food arrives. Hope they figure it out. May try again in the future. I wish them success! read more
