Two bad experiences. First trip, live music was way too loud and did not go with the ambience. Requested to move our table. The second trip our waiter drove us insane. He would not leave us alone. The restaurant was slow so he seemed bored. He came to our table 10 times!! On top of that we had a battle with gnats flying around and in our food. They seem to have a gnat problem. Had dinner at this restaurant with some coworkers this evening. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy as it was a Monday night. But staffing seemed to still be an issue. Service was slow. Waiter was not very attentive and frankly, he was a bit rude in response to questions and ordering choices. Two pasta dishes were cold, one warm but seemed to have been sitting too long under a warmer. Wine was ordered but never received. On the plus side, the pasta taste was good but probably would have been great if served in a reasonable amount of time and hot. Overall, a disappointing evening. read more

This Italian restaurant is delicious! We have been here twice, and both times were great! The first time I ordered the pappardelle bolognese, and it was good. My husband and I are new to the neighborhood so were looking forward to trying this place out. Unfortunately, this was the one and only time we will go there. The service and attitude of management was atrocious. We ordered fried mozzarella as an app and 2 entrees. After waiting 20 minutes, the app finally came out. It was nothing special, a bit greasy and the marinara was bland. After another 30 mins our entrees came out. We received entrees we didn't even order! Seriously after waiting 50 minutes, you bring me the wrong order? Someone that I am assuming is either the manager or the owner came over to find out what happened. I told him at this point it has been 50 minutes, we would just like our check. He said it will be comp'ed and walked away, no I am sorry, nothing. We sat there waiting another couple of minutes as I assumed he was coming back. He rudely came back to the table and said there is no check and just walked away. I am completely appalled by his attitude. Horrible service and attitude! It's a shame we didn't get to try the food. read more

Very warm and cozy vibe to this place when we walked in on an a recent Friday night. We were promptly seated. Our server came over immediately with our menus and we ordered our drinks (house Cab which was amazing). We ordered Carpaccio for our starter and then I wanted to try something from the seasonal menu; orecchiette and shrimp with fava bean purée. Authentic Italian in Ashburn!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been living in Ashburn since 1989 and the only place in Ashburn I've had authentic Italian is in my kitchen- until now. I've eaten here twice and have not been disappointed with any of the items we've had- authentic arancini (rice balls) (like back in the old neighborhood in NY) and mozzarella in corrozza (made the right way and available with anchovy sauce as it's supposed to be), cavetelli, pork chop pizzaiola and gnocchi, and pistachio cheesecake. They even made me an off the menu dessert upon request- affogato. Great selection of Italian wines at all price points. Pretty good beer selection also. The service has been great both times I was there- once at the bar and once in the dining room. The management seems eager to show people around and make them feel welcome. read more

I had the opportunity to stop by Pazzo Pomodoro the other night and was more than pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was perfect. Their floor plan includes a large outdoor patio, and also a covered atrium with large folding glass doors the opened onto the patio, Basically 2/3 of their dining area was outside dining, just right for our current social distancing situation ... we felt very safe. The service was great .. staff was very attentive, with it seemed like were 3-4 staff waiting our table, but never too much fussing, just right. But the best was the food. Our friends had one of their pizzas that came out of their Napoleons pizza oven we saw as we came into the restaurant. Thin crust evidently made from Italian flour was covered with sausage and ham that smelled wonderful and our friends raved over the fresh made tomato sauce. I had fresh Mediterranean branzino that was so large it hung slightly over the plater and tasted amazing. My date had fresh made lobster stuffed ravioli that smelled wonderful with the lobster cream sauce. Their wine list is likely the largest and probably the most exclusive in Northern Virginia, and their sommelier, Mary was a absolute delight and an obvious expert on every wine on their list. (I found out later Pazzo was awarded Wine Spectator's honored award, which I understand there are only 8-10 restaurants in DC with this top Spectator award). The evening, as I said was perfect. Their sign outside said authentic Italian food, but it was much greater than that ... from the service, ambiance, attention to detail , Enzo the manager, Jimmy the owner, to the fresh ground cheese at the table ... for a couple of hours, we felt we were at a lively and very friendly tavern in Italy. We all said we couldn't wait to get back again. Highly recommended. read more

Bam! My first time at this Italian spot. The staff is very friendly, cliff and Walter are holding down the place and providing great service. The food is awesome, we started with some special flat bread. I had the pesto special and it was awesome, shrimp cooked perfectly. My wife had the meatballs, we both loved the sauce. We went to Pazzo Pomodoro for the first time tonight with our neighbor. None of us had ever dined there before. We sat indoors by the bar, just before you entered the outdoor dining area. Great breeze and with air/fans we were very comfortable on a hot evening. We all selected & enjoyed a salad & two pasta & one seafood entrees. The staff was great, but we lucked out with their sommelier, Mary Watson. Their wine list is extensive. She gave us an explanation for several that interested us, and recommended others. She chilled our selected bottle and served it. Mary....rocks!!! She was extremely knowledgeably & fun. Angelo was our waiter, from Rome, and knew his entrees. Steve, the manager, also stopped to see if all was well and answer questions. We're converts now and will definitely be returning to PP. I went to this restaurant for some great Italian food and pizza, but ended up getting so much more! From the homemade sangria to the incredible cream filled chocolate raspberry dessert, the entire meal was delicious. Ambiance was very nice - we enjoyed sitting at a high top over by the bar/atrium area. For food, we thought that the papperdalle was excellent. Also had the lamb chops which were very good as well. We did not care for the meatballs - did not like this recipe too much, a bit dry tasting. Had the tiramisu for dessert which was fantastic. Wine selection was very good and at a reasonable price. The crust is the right amount of crispy and chewy, and there's a good balance of sauce and cheese. I've also had the orichette with shrimp and veggies. First, the next sentence seems bad, but it's the only negative I have. Don't come here on a weekend. Staff seems to get overwhelmed. Had reservations for 6:30. Got put out on a loud patio in a corner at a high top. Server never came. Ten minutes went by, we finally flagged someone down (to be fair though, he did have an 6 top, an 8 top and then us!). Ordered calamari, GRILLED. Was so looking forward to it! We just had fried calamari the previous weekend. Didn't really want fried, got fried somehow anyway. The food is delicious, so go regardless. But just beware of peak times. Our server and the bus boy were both pretty polite and attentive (especially the bus boy!). Ok, and one last small criticism... We were asked if we wanted desert, answered no thanks. He left and didn't come back with a check! We had to flag a different server down after about 10 more minutes of waiting. This is the "neighborhood" place we have been waiting for!! With all of our kids out for the night, we thought "Clyde's?" Or "Ford's Fish Shack?" But then my husband remembered he'd seen that Pazzo was open last week when he drove to Whole Foods. So, on a lark we went here for dinner and drinks. And loved it! We sat in the bar (full menu available) and were immediately welcomed by James and Mike, super friendly bartenders. We ordered dirty martinis--very good. We decided on a pizza from the brick oven as our appetizer--the one with prosciutto and arugula. It was wonderful--chewy crust, fresh arugula and tomatoes and generous amount of prosciutto. While watching the Caps pound the Avalanche, we ordered penne with smoked salmon and linguine with white clam sauce. My salmon pasta was outstanding, I'd definitely order it again. Lots of salmon and sun dried tomatoes and not too creamy/heavy. My husband enjoyed his linguine with clam sauce though he had hoped for juicier/plumper clams. But it was a "10" in the taste department. Finally, great ambiance..it's a cozy place, nicely decorated, though I can't see them hosting super large gatherings, but for 2/4/6 people, it is a wonderful experience. Not great. Waited 10 minutes to place an order, and when the bartender came to take it she didn't write a thing down. Her choice, but my experience is that a waiter who doesn't write things down is going to mess it up. So ten minutes later our apps come out and there's still no drinks. Appetizers were fine, I like the tomato sauce that came with the Tuscan flatbread. When our dinner came out, prophecy fulfilled! My order was wrong (I asked for the orchiette pasta special with tomatoes, and I was given shrimp pasta with a thick butter sauce). I would have said something, if she had ever come back. It tasted find, but at $16 a plate, I want what I ordered! We finished our dinner at 8:45. Someone came at 9:00 to ask us if we wanted dessert. When we declined and asked for the check, he brought it, and then we had to ask a manager to run it at 9:15. Service is not good, and I'd rather go to Travinia, where the service is always worth the cost of food. read more

The restaurant's atmosphere is very inviting. The service is very attentive - excellent. We had both the fried calamari and the arancini (rice balls). The calamari was perfectly cooked and tender. It was served with a generous portion of marinara sauce that tasted like home. The rice balls need improvement. The caciocavallo (yellow) cheese inside changes the flavor too much from the Sicilian tradition. It also needs to have more chop meat inside. Their competitive advantage is their service. However, they need to work on the value proposition - better portion size and price. read more
