Adding to the frustration, there is no guarantee the unit will still be available by the time your application is approved--it may already be rented to someone else. Not only that, submitting an application triggers a hard inquiry on your credit report, which can lower your credit score by a few points and potentially affect future rental or housing applications--especially when you haven't even been allowed to see the unit. This process places unnecessary financial and credit risk on applicants and reflects a poor and unfair business practice.

John even came over and replaced the batteries on the smoke detector when I couldn't figure out which one was low and the beeping wouldn't stop. Our microwave broke and I messaged John and it was replaced within a few days. In my experience Scout Properties is a great property management company. I'm not sure Victor ever really knew who we were and I can't be sure he ever visited the apartment before things really went to crap. He completely missed a major toilet leak--even after the tenant moved out--which left us with a cumulative $5,773.14 water bill. Then Scout didn't handle the tenant's voucher renewal properly, with no warning to us, which made the tenant move out early and cost us rental income. Even worse, we've now been stuck for several months without a tenant and have had to cover all the turnover costs ourselves. Despite that, Scout still charged their full management fees while barely responding to us. All of a sudden, Scout dropped us as clients (including our neighbors who were clients also), kept the fees, and stopped returning calls. Our next‑door neighbors had the same experience -- and told us their tenant was even offered an apartment at another property managed by Scout. Everything started fine but turned into one expensive, stressful mess. Don't hire Scout Properties unless you want poor communication, big bills, and months of lost rent.

Their response to maintenance issues is prompt and they keep the neighborhood well groomed. TERRIBLE for landlords. They ignore their small investors, won't return calls and emails and take…read moreMONTHS to get a property marketed. I funded repairs on May 21st and three weeks later nothing had moved forward and it took them another full week to verify the money after I complained, which the money was there. And repairs are done but no marketing is happening and I can't get their office to respond to emails or phone calls about this. I'm a small investor and it seems they ignore us.  This happened back in January too when I funded repairs, nothing moved forward, and then a month or so later an emergency happened and those funds were used for the emergency repair. They would not acknowledge this had happened and claimed I didn't fund it. Took WEEKS more to get an updated amount for the old repairs and an estimate. So now we're in July and I'm waiting on marketing for a property that should have been repaired and marketed MONTHS ago if they had responded. Penny doesn't answer calls once you're no longer a new client and neither does the rest of the office.

We rented a unit in Parkfairfax managed by this property management company and their "property…read moremanagement" was a disaster. I experienced constant flooding and sewage leaking from the kitchen sinks (yep, 2 sinks), giant sized insects invading our space, decaying floor boards from water damage, 3 years of uninterrupted mold and mildew, the need for a dehumidifier requiring 4 buckets of water to be dumped daily, and the last stray was a bathroom ceiling leaks flooding the unit requiring a 1 month stay in the hotel paid for by my insurance and I still had to pay the rent for my unit. During those 3 years, I suffered terribly from respiratory problems for the first time in my life. No empathy shown by the leasing agent or landlord for the major and myriad inconveniences. Upon returning to the unit in addition to the floor repairs they used substandard contractors to paint the walls. During my stay at the hotel (on my insurance's dime, mind you despite paying the full month's rent DURING it's renovation) I was not notified that the walls would be painted until AFTER the work was done, nor was my artwork removed from the walls prior to painting. The substandard painters merely painted around my artwork. Essentially their substandard painting contractors sealed the damage free adhesive to the walls with the paint making the artwork impossible to remove without damaging the wall. Moreover, the substandard contractors also painted over the back door sealing it shut. Upon move-out, the property management company wanted to penalize me for the damage caused by their own substandard painters shoddy work, since there're still holding on to my security deposit. Avoid renting through this "property management" company at all costs

Two tenants moved out while NLR was managing the property and there were damages unfixed; and no deposit money until this review. There were many belabored emails when we expected automatic deductions from tenants for repairs. Still don't know where the owner repair deposit is. The repairs department was the standout, especially the new manager; he stayed on top of the jobs and communicated w/o having to be followed up with! At least the interior of our place is functional.

The stove was an old coil burner stove that was rusting. There was mold at the caulking on the kitchen sink. I tried to remove but to no avail. I lived with it for one year. I cleaned the place before I left. I scrubbed the toilet and the tub. They just charged me $255 to clean. Do not rent from them. I wish I would have listened to those who told me not to do it. I even left all the blinds in the windows that I had bought and had cut to fit those windows!!! Terrible experience. They will find any reason to keep any part of your security deposit.
