Lisa is very kind, laid back, and awesome. The gym itself is very cool and the outdoor space is nice.

You know what I don't like? Working out in any way. You know what Laurel makes me not completely hate? Working out. Now my fiancé and I wanted to get in shape for our wedding next year and we knew we had to start now. I chose PE fitness studio because it had the ambiance I wanted, a comfortable setting to work out that was a typical gym. They host small group classes and one on ones, so you won't catch some creep in a machine in the corner slowly moving while staring at you. Perfect. Not looking to go to a gym. I need someone to motivate me to not quit and just sit there. Laurel suggested we start with 20 half hour sessions with me and my fiancé. I couldn't commit so I agreed on 15 but will definitely be buying more. She motivates me by chatting me up about my favorite topics to get me forget about the agonizing pain in my butt as I squat across the room. You think 30 mins isn't a lot, but when you mix in cardio and the deathly push ups, trust me, it is. Laurel is a sweetheart and doesn't let me quit! The other day she threatened me with burpees if I tried to cheat on my across the room squats, aka I ran halfway across the room when she wasn't looking! Laurel is a sweetheart and soooooo flexible with scheduling. I 100% suggest one on one training with her. It's pricier than a gym but let's be honest, you weren't going to the gym. You're less likely to cancel when you have a wonderful sweet woman waiting on you!!! Did I mention she has an adorable pit bull puppy and she texts me photos of him all the time??? Because she does! I am not a gym rat. I am not a fitness junkie. But I like a decadent meal and a few cocktails and maybe we can just all agree that I appreciate butter and laminated pastries and caramel sauce and Providence's range of abundant sweet treats (I'm looking at you Knead Doughnuts. And you, Aleppo Sweets!). My first few months at PE Fitness were a bit reluctant - my partner had gifted me with weekly personal training sessions for Christmas and I did not take kindly to the gift. Laurel, one of the two owners and trainers at the gym was gentle with me, allowing me to find my own pace and rhythms, but also challenged me to push myself just a little bit harder with each session. Fast forward five years and I'm happy to say that this place has made me a better and more balanced human! I've become a huge fan of the small-group classes. Something about this place draws really wonderful and like-minded folk together. Motivational without being cheesy, challenging without being intimidating, and immediately welcoming (without feeling cult-y), I cannot imagine another gym quite like this. Every few years I fall off for a couple of months, and I usually have an awful time getting back to it, but once I do, I feel a thousand times better - not to mention how much I appreciate the familiar faces and both Lisa and Laurel's guidance! read more

This gem of a fitness studio was opened recently by Lisa St Denis, trainer extraordinaire. Lisa offers great drop-in classes such as TRX suspension training, Zumba, ballet toning and bootcamp - as well as private and semi-private training sessions. You can buy a class or session at a time or a series. Lisa is an inspirational trainer who makes you realize that at any age or fitness level you can achieve so much more than you think. Her background in TRX, Crossfit and endurance coaching makes her a very versatile trainer who can work with clients with no fitness background all the way to athletes wanting to improve their records. The studio is beautiful, her pricing is very reasonable and the community she's building is supportive, healthy and fun! I highly recommend this fitness studio and Lisa as a trainer. read more

I've been looking to change up my fitness routine and take some classes, but i could never find any classes that were different and piqued my interest. I found PE fitness online and liked their website and space. I got busy with a new baby and forgot all about them till I saw they had a groupon! Well bingo there was the push I needed! The special was 39$ for unlimited classes and I took advantage. I've taken 3 classes so far and loved them! The classes are small which I love and Lisa And Laurel are excellent instructors. They motivate, watch your form, and mean business. tabata trx and bootcamp are my favorites so far. I highly recommend them and I'll be back after my groupon expires for sure! read more

Not all gyms are created equal! Love this place!! Top notch trainers Laurel, Lisa and Nina offer creative and challenging workouts that will never get boring or stale. They offer modifications and cater to all different levels so you don't need to feel intimidated. Working out at PE has changed my view of fitness. I actually get excited to go in for my sessions now-after years and years of donating to the gym. They work with you to make sure you're getting what you need while pushing you a little harder each time. Laurel and Lisa are awesome, and I would absolutely recommend that you work out here. I want to start this review by saying that before going to PE Fitness I had not exercised in over 10 years. I always hated exercise and had zero motivation to do anything healthy. I have been taking classes for about a month and have come to love going to PE Fitness. The fact that I want to go and enjoy exercising is a feat in and of itself. In every class I feel that I am being pushed to do my best while also being supported. Lisa and Laurel are amazing people and have made me feel comfortable in an atmosphere that is out of my comfort zone. I also take classes with Nina who is just as supportive yet demanding. PE Fitness is a place for everyone including those new to fitness. I feel lucky to have found such an amazing group of people who want to see me succeed in my fitness goals! read more

I injured my hip over a year ago, but Lisa and Laurel have helped me continue to grow stronger and work harder without risking further injuries. The workout classes are designed so everyone can go at their own pace, each move is explained and then the coach walks around helping with proper form, modifications and motivation! I love this gym! The classes have a lot of variety and the people are great! Laurel and Lisa are always there to help and they are very knowledgeable about diet and exercise. They are incredibly supportive and tailor workouts to your level that appropriately challenge you but are also fun. They're also nice good people. Lisa and Laurel are both great! My husband and I have worked mostly with Lisa (who is great at motivating and challenging you without frustrating you - a valuable skill). Also, we are sometimes in slightly different places regarding our fitness level, and she is great at helping us with workouts that play to both of our strengths (and weaknesses!). I have only taken one class from Laurel, but she is also great at meeting people where they're at and challenging them to improve. Another plus - class sizes tend to be relatively small, it seems, classes are a GREAT deal... Most classes seem to be TRX-based (basically, this means using your own body weight to create a workout). Sounds easy right? It's not, but both my husband and I leave exhausted EVERY time. In a good way. Results-wise, I have been working with this studio for the last 3 months, and have noticed a significant change in my body composition (more muscle and more endurance), and I have also lost some weight (~10 lbs... and I NEVER lose weight)... and that's been great too! In my opinion, this has been money well spent. I highly recommend PE Fitness. Edit: Cost wise - this facility seems in line with prices for similar services in this area. I believe this has been a great investment for my family, and I am relatively frugal most of the time. As I mentioned earlier, classes are a great deal (I think if you purchase 20 classes at a time, it works out to 8-9 dollars a class. Great!). read more

Excellent gym in a beautiful space. I trained one on one with Laurel for a year and only stopped because I moved away. Lisa and Laurel were both friendly and welcoming from day one. I'm not a super athletic person, but training made me stronger and more fit than I had ever been. These ladies are experienced, well-rounded trainers but above all great people. I started an year ago after purchasing their groupon. I am happy that, I chose PE fitness. Laurel and Lisa are very professional, friendly and caring. They always try to push our limits. They really mean business. I usually lazy to do workouts and go to gym. Lisa and Laurel are beautiful and genuine people. I became instant best friends with them during my first training session. I was looking to add to my fitness routine and have always had trouble working out on my own. PE was perfect and I wish I had found this place earlier. Their classes are fun and challenging at the same time. I never felt bored or felt like I was doing the same exercise over and over again. Each class is unique and different and trust me you ll keep going back for more. You get to use a wide variety of props and equipment (who knew flipping tires would be so much fun). You are probably asking why some joker from AZ is writing a review on this place. Well, I use to live here and Lisa was my trainer. I am a distance runner training for the O Trials in the marathon and she took me on when I was injured and built me back up to compete again. So here's what I have to tell you. 1) This place is the absolute best for what YOU need, and I emphasize the YOU, if you are an elite athlete - no fear, this is not a feel good puffy place for you, you will work HARD and sweat like hell. BUT if you need community and just a healthy dose of functional fitness, they will give you that, or if you need the social aspect - there is an awesome community, you just cannot go wrong. 2) Both Laurel and Lisa are top notch, I worked primarily with Lisa but one time I took Laurel's class and it was no joke, I would have no problem working with her, they both are very good. I think what is unique about them is they can read what you need that too, I am pretty intense :) And hate to chit chat, I want to work, I am there to get better, but there are those occasional days when you are beat up - and they knew that and gave me what I needed. 3) Providence has a gem on it's hand here, if you live here take advantage of it. They'll push you to your limits and right out of your comfort zone, without the drill sergeant attitude. They're super motivating and encouraging. Every workout is unique and creative. I have been doing personal training with Lisa for the past two years now, as well as doing some Zumba and TRX at the studio, and it has been awesome. Like other commenters have said, she is a great combination of being tough and giving positive reinforcement. She loves what she does and it shows. Also, she brings a lot of variation to the workouts; she had me rolling a big tire up the hill and flipping it today, because it was nice outside. Laurel's Zumba classes are fun and easygoing, and both Lisa and Laurel's TRX classes are good too--nice people, at different levels, but it doesn't matter b/c TRX can kick your butt at any level! read more

This place makes sweating fun and makes you feel strong and fit. I've been attending PE for over two years. Laurel and Lisa are extremely welcoming, over the years I have seen them welcome many new people to the gym and give them different modifications depending on their fitness levels. They expertly craft every class, making them scalable so no matter your fitness level you get a great workout. PE is small enough that it feels like you are working out with friends, but PE has such a supportive culture so it's not intimating to be new. They have recently added power yoga classes with Jessica which have been really great and allows me to stretch out my tight spots. PE offers a great range of classes at different times making its easy to get there and get your sweat in. Classes feature body weight exercises, circuit training and creative use of their surroundings wether it's the hill outside the studios, or the many hallways within the mill. They know how to push you but also pay careful attention to make sure everyone is safe and not overexerting themselves even if that means telling people to skip a class in order to recover. I had tried pretty much everything - monthly gym memberships that didn't get utilized, fad diets, no carb etc., nothing stuck, but I turned a corner when I signed on at PE fitness a little over two years ago. I started with personal training sessions with Laurel 3 times a week and she knew exactly what I needed at a pace that I was comfortable with. And both Laurel and Lisa are two of the most pleasant people to be around so the training sessions are something I look forward to. After a while I moved on to taking classes which are fun because I met some great people that were taking the classes as well. The hiking class has a couple of hikes incorporated in it over the course of the class, and it was fitting to find myself on top of Mt. Monadnock on the day that marked exactly two years since starting at PE fitness. So if you need to start somewhere with your health goals, PE fitness could be a life changer. Laurel and Lisa run the best gym I've ever been to. PE Fitness got me in the best shape of my life and helped me see myself as an athlete. The outdoor bootcamp classes had such a fun, friendly vibe and that good energy led to more hill runs and tire flips!
