What can I say? It's a gym with gym equipment, free weights, a basketball court, racquetball courts, some classes, pool and jacuzzi. Women's and men's locker rooms also each have a sauna. Staff should circulate around, people often sit on machines yapping on their phones for 30-90 minutes-nonstop talking and not actually using the machines, it's aggravating when you want to workout but can't fully do so-they should be removed from the machines by staff. It's an ok gym-not the best or the worse. read more

While the physical plant of the building is just ok, I am comparing this location with Cranston which is falling apart. The pool remains closed in Cranston as does the Walpole location. But the good news is lady in the morning who is always early for us lunatics! Even 10 minutes extra is a gift and she never disappoints. This LA Fitness is "Ghetto Fitness". Always problems with some equipment that goes unfixed for weeks. Men's sauna is saturated with sweat and smells bad. Showers without sandals is a risk, the ceiling has mold and bugs. Locker room floor is filthy. The staff are pleasant but don't seem to care much. You'll spend a good amount of time trying to find weights and assessories for the machines. Take a look at the pics, this is what an LA Fitness should be !! Unfortunately not in Rhode Island. This gym is under terrible Management. The main guy has a major superiority mindset. He is very disrespectful towards the members and openly mocks their concerns and allows his employees to tag team when ganging up. He is unreasonable and refuses to take accountability. The child care program is wildly under supervised. Way too many kids of different ages with staff who seemingly can't communicate or explain situations regarding the children. The child care workers are nice, but just majorly outnumbered and under trained and supported. The child care center is often dirty, just like the rest of the gym. Husband got athletes foot terribly from their locker rooms. The gym is constantly way too hot. There are no fans to help circulate the air. The machines are very out of date, run down, and unacceptably dirty. (Gum stuck in the cup holders, the soft rubber coating that goes over handles and machines is melting off the equipment and gets on personal items and hands. The seats are cracked. I've been a member of the gym at two separate times in my life, mainly to use the pool. I love the pool and a few time it right you can sometimes have it to yourself or maybe with one other person. The bummer is that the Jacuzzi is often Out of order or not super clean. I used to enjoy attending yoga classes here and then they disappeared. I like that the gym lets you put your membership on pause however they are not very helpful helping you cancel. You can't do it online and you have to fill out a paper form and it doesn't make a lot of sense. That's how franchise gyms like this get you is keeping you paying for a membership that you don't necessarily want. read more

When I first joined LA Fittness in Cranston, RI, about a year and a half ago I was really excited. The pool and the whirlpool were a big draw. For the last couple of months the pool and whirlpool area has been closed, and while they say they are doing repairs on those areas there is no sign of that. A quick peek into that area revealed a situation that has only gotten worse and more dangerous: walls falling down, peeling paint, and mold everywhere. They did not even have the sense to drain the water while the space is inactive. Also, the other areas are increasingly dirty and more and more equipment is out of commission. first of all, Anthony is fantastic. He's right on the ball. He's always listening to members constantly fixing the sauna and the whirlpool that members destroy. I have also seen him in his wheelchair, picking up plates, dumbbells, and taking weights off and putting them away. Really people !!!you can't put your weights away!!?? The rest of the staff, sales consultants need to get out from behind the desk and tell people to return their weights. Take their plates off the machines put the dumbbells back where they found them. It's getting ridiculous when you have to go upstairs to find a dumbbell or a bar.. Many members are disrespectful they don't clean off the machines and hardly ever put their weights back. I refuse to go in the pool and the sauna as I've seen so many people go in un- showered it's disgusting. Some people have gone in the whirlpool in their underwear. Do not come here. Extremely hostile and angry employees. Creepy employee approached me during my workout TWICE, to ask me to rerack my weights "because I have to do it" were his words. Employee was threatening me, in my face, and raising his voice to the point people started to interject and tell him to leave me, a private paying member, alone. Keep in mind said employee was not wearing any uniform or identifying features and refused to give me his name. Employee continued to argue with me in front of customers at the front desk deliberately targeting me. Gym floor relatively orderly with a decent layout and amount of equipment. However, near constant lack of one or more amenities makes this place a little frustrating. By amenities, I mean pretty basic things like hand soap and paper towels. If the fountain with the water filter shows the filter is expired, you can be sure it will be that way for at least a week. Men's sauna has been out of commission for more than a month. I go to the gym during work hours nearly every day and I haven't seen anyone working in it once. read more

The gym is quite spacious and has many cardio machines and resistance training options . The pool is nice . Parking is good . The dumbbells are often out of place during busy hours . I have many issues with this gym and instead of ranting off my complaints , I would make some suggestions : 1. Have a staff member go around the gym every hour or so to put loose laying dumbbells , foam rollers and balls in their proper places . 2. Have contact free water fountains where people can fill their water bottles ( just like Planet Fitness ). In the time of covid , you should not be having traditional water fountains like the one near your basketball court . 3. If a trainer leaves or resigns , make it a point to inform the member asap . I have been left hanging dry just to find out the trainer resigned STAFF MORALE AND RETENTION IS VERY POOR IN THIS GYM! 4. Make it easier for members who buy personal training packages able to "pause" charges in case of travel or illness or if the trainer himself is out of town . I was originally happy when I joined LA about a year ago because I was use to a gym about 1/3 the size which often filled up very quickly; however, after spending more time here, I'm really hoping Providence gets some better options. I want to preface my following points by saying that there are some weeks that are much more satisfactory than others, but things have been consistently bad, which is what motivated this review. First, the gym itself is not well taken care of/cleaned. It smells, the carpet is filthy, and the equipment isn't clean/taken care of. Second, machines (as evidenced in the photos) are constantly broken and waiting to be serviced, some for MONTHS. Third, the patrons are generally rude and obnoxious...weights/equipment are left scattered everywhere (and not picked up by staff), some of the douchey "men" take up multiple sets of weights and multiple machines at the same time, and unhinged grunting and weight slamming (love that your pushing yourself but you can do so while being respectful of others...oh, and maybe work on those toothpick legs of yours once in a while too). Fourth, staff could be more welcoming and more team oriented. I'm sure tasks are delegated to people in certain positions, but when your workplace is a disaster, maybe an all-hands-on-deck situation is appropriate. I also find it kind of wild that there could be 2-6 people sitting at desks not doing anything while you have handicapped staff doing all the cleaning and picking up. Lastly, to the patrons who feel the need to park in handicap spots (with no disability placard) because you don't want to walk the extra 50 feet to the GYM doors, you're trash. Do better. read more

Place the past 6 months is cleaner than it's ever been. Not sure who the new manager is but he or she is doing a amazing job

This place is huge with lots of big windows letting in natural light. They offer many fitness classes included as part of the monthly membership, including cycle, aqua fitness, and some body works - but the Cranston club has more classes. I am pleased to say that the membership here reflects the Pawtucket population, meaning that this is the most ethnically diverse group of people working on their fitness that I've ever seen. The gym is mostly clean, although with a club as busy as this one it is hard to always have every paper towel dispenser filled and checked. When equipment breaks, it seems to be repaired fairly quickly (although a few machines seems always to have ripped cushions). The showers are OK, not great - just as you'd expect in a large gym. This is a busy facility, and a substantial percentage of the clientele is ripped! If you are a bit older and less fit - as regrettably I am - on occasion this means that the more serious folks won't yield machines, space on a mat, or equipment for you; that's a bit annoying but not fatal because I'll move to something else and come back. The personal training has a bit more sales pressure, and the trainers seem to be a bit uneven/inconsistent. Some are skilled and dedicated, others less so like in any other work place. In my personal opinion, the packages aren't flexible enough and cost too much. Aside from that, I'm happy enough belonging here. read more

If i can rate this place a zero i would I wish they hired more cleaners this place is disappointing and dirty. They legit have 3 cleaners that clean a place that serve at minimum 600 people daily. But each cleaner legit is only around for an hour. LA Fitness wants the whole state to go to there gym for big $60 a month subscription but fail to maintain it clean. Been coming here for over 3 months and its always been this dirty The sauna floor mats have never been replaced either. The showers disgusting. Like what does this company do with all the money. The staff seems more of a auto sales team then a gym staff.... they are more focus or selling memberships then health and fitness. I normally go to ESPORTA which is where my membership is. I decided to go to this one because they are sister companies. I called ahead of time and confirmed my membership worked there and that it would be free for me to go. The girl confirmed that my membership works at any LA Fitness because I pay the max membership. So, I get there and scan in and the guy stops me and tells me I need to pay to go into this one. I told him I called ahead of time and the girl told me it was covered by my membership and he basically tells me I'm lying and that there are no females that work there and answer the phones. So I pay and workout. I go to walk out and tell him the exact day and time I called and then he tells me that they found out who it was, didn't apologize or offer to refund the money or even offer another pass to go in. Just awful customer service. Seriously terrible. I thought about switching my memberships so I can use that one and that guy ruined it for me! read more

This is a good gym that's consistently busy but not so busy as to keep you out of it. I usually show up between 7-8pm on weekdays and it's still fairly crowded but starting to calm down. I've never had an issue with anyone in the locker room like others have suggested. In fact, you sometimes strike up a quick conversation for a few moments with just about anybody. This place isn't "dirty". Sure, if a bunch of people are using the locker room at once the trash may overflow from time to time, but it's cleaned up pretty quick. The men got creepier and the gym got dirtier. When I first started going here (about a year and a half ago) it was a great environment, the regulars were friendly and the staff were great! Management was helpful now you might get lucky 1/7 days someone greets you at the door. There is a sever lack of respect for the gym, it feels like no one EVER puts their weights back and if they do it's in the wrong location. Common equipment isn't updated or out of service. The cardio area is spectacular for everything except the stair masters which are always out of order but I do love how many treadmills they have. read more

I transferred to this LAF from Atlanta. There are other options in Providence, but one thing I enjoy about LAF is their consistency. The gyms are laid out very similarly from one location to the next. I also despise socializing in the gym. I know very few people there. I go to get my workout in and leave. No one ever bothers me at the gym. So you're very much able to quickly knock your workout out. Having read some other reviews, I could see how this location could be intimidating to women. There are a lot of men, but there are a number of women that also visit the gym. I've attended both an aquatics and spin class. They were both attended mostly by women. I'm also usually at the gym M-F around 5:30/6am. There's very little traffic at those times. You can get a great workout in without having to wait for any equipment. Whenever I have to go in the afternoon or evenings, like around 4/5p, I can barely get to the equipment I need to use that day. However, I've created a lot of new exercises that are impactful from having to wait. Overall, I'd give it five stars. It's a gym that does it's job! It's nicely polish and most equipment (outside of a few occasional stair masters) functions properly/normally. read more

If you have time to make a sign that there is no soap in the restroom, you have time to walk 10 yard over to the dollar tree and put 1 or 2 soaps in the restroom. Or close the bathroom entirely if there is no soap, people already don't always wipe down their machines after using and now they have dirty hands from the bathroom?? They have a lot of work to do. First would be offering a lot more sanitation amenities. We are still in a global pandemic. There needs to be sprays there needs to be wipes. Unfortunately a lot of the clientele don't wipe down at all. That needs to be enforced. Weights are generally disorganized but again I blame some of the knucklehead mouth breathers that work out there. I'd prefer to review the GM rather than the facility. The facility itself, if you are wondering, is more like 4 stars. The equipment is new, the pool is nice, and I appreciate the fact I can use the exercise rooms when there are no classes. The classes themselves, though, are poor quality. If you want amazing group fitness classes, Gold's Gym across the street has them. With that said, the GM (who was Bill as of November, but this might have changed) is one of the shadiest people I've ever met. When trying to work out a solution to a membership issue with my boss and me, Bill retracted his word several times. He lied to the both of us; he told my boss one thing, he told me another, and in the end, it became obvious he didn't care about customer service--only the bottom line. And not only that, he gave us the run-around and tried to over-charge us. The only person who does a great job there is Regent. Everyone else who sits behind a desk either doesn't know what's happening or seems untrustworthy. read more

Let's start with the positives: Lots of equipment, big space and lots of parking. Decent pool (although a few degrees too warm for serious lap swimming) and most of the clientele doesn't swim so except for weekends (see below) you can always get in and never have to wait for a lane. Pretty cheap (at least compared with the west coast where I come from). Downsides: This is the only pool in a private gym that I've belonged to anywhere in the country that doesn't have pull floats and kickboards for training. I asked the manager, and he seemed kind of dismissive saying that people would probably just steal them if they had them. There should be signs up saying that the pool is for lap swimming only. On the weekends, it's hard sometimes to get a lane because there are people just socializing in the pool and sometimes there are kids just playing in one of the lanes. There are only three lanes so three things shouldn't be allowed. Staff needs to put signs up and enforce it. Have never seen staff in the pool area. There is a shower in the pool area but no soap. There should be signs saying people need to wash with soap before using the pool and jacuzzi - and also use a proper clean bathing suit and not their dirty workout clothes. People go into the pool and jacuzzi (and the sauna for that matter) in dirty sweaty workout clothes. Gross. This location has a particular problem with gym etiquette - loud interminable cell phone conversations on the gym floor, locker room, sauna and jacuzzi, hogging equipment and weights (this morning I couldn't get any free weights in the 20-35 range for over 30 minutes because several people had multiple pairs reserved by them and said they were " using " them. Also, a guy sitting on the bench next to me while I did my entire 15 or 20 minute routine was on the cell phone the whole time preventing anyone else from using it), people playing their own loud filthy music (f this, f that, motherf...r, f..got, b..ch, etc.) on the gym floor and in the locket room (these are bluetooth speakers that they carry around with them - not earphones). Signs need to be put up and staff needs to enforce basic respectable behavior - maybe including a training on gym etiquette when joining and requiring agreement to guidelines when signing up. read more

I've called the Pawtucket location again today(my 4th phone call), and I've been told to call back later today, which will be my 5th phone call. I completely realize that gyms right now are understaffed, and this is a special time with the COVID19. But I'm curious to know why this isn't something anyone can look up in my account. So my favorite gym for years closed. I then started working out at work out world and then later planet fitness. I'm so happy I discovered LA Fitness. I feel like I'm finally back at a real gym. All the free weights and benches you'll need. Tons of equipment all in perfect condition. A racket ball court , swimming pool, full length basketball court. Clean, bright , so spacious you never feel crowded or have people 8 inches away from you waking in and out of your workout space. This is a real gym! Highly recommend. read more

Deceptive - my kids thought they signed up for a 2 month summer, but were given a contract with an initiation fee + they could only cancel in person. In spite of a "no initiation fee for immediate family" promo! Personal training is expensive but LA pockets most of that money so the trainers are poorly paid. As a result, the trainers who are there don't have a lot of training. As soon as they get more experience and training they go elsewhere. read more

The only thing about this place is they will try to shove their personal training memberships down your throats and will call u on a weekly basis to get you in for a free session but they really just wanna box you into signing up for training. They will also try talking you into it at the desk when u scan in. It's really annoying but other than that it's a solid gym. Update: this gym has gotten out of hand with the amount of people that go. I know it's not the gyms fault, there's really nothing they can do, but this is just an FYI for anybody considering getting a membership here who does not feel comfortable in a crowded environment.
