This LA Fitness is "Ghetto Fitness". Always problems with some equipment that goes unfixed for weeks. Men's sauna is saturated with sweat and smells bad. Showers without sandals is a risk, the ceiling has mold and bugs. Locker room floor is filthy. The staff are pleasant but don't seem to care much. You'll spend a good amount of time trying to find weights and assessories for the machines. Take a look at the pics, this is what an LA Fitness should be !! Unfortunately not in Rhode Island. It's in Whittier, CA. WOW !! Clean, sparkling in fact. ALL the machines work. Plenty of weights and assessories. Cardio equipment is up-to-date, weight machines are up-to-date. Staff takes time to show you around and restack weights. Sauna is clean and smells good. Locker rooms are clean and the floor is spotless. Showers are sparkling clean and smells good. Why can't Rhode Island's LA Fitness compare ?!?

Broken machines for over a year.

This gym is under terrible Management. The main guy has a major superiority mindset. He is very disrespectful towards the members and openly mocks their concerns and allows his employees to tag team when ganging up. He is unreasonable and refuses to take accountability. The child care program is wildly under supervised. Way too many kids of different ages with staff who seemingly can't communicate or explain situations regarding the children. The child care workers are nice, but just majorly outnumbered and under trained and supported. The child care center is often dirty, just like the rest of the gym. Husband got athletes foot terribly from their locker rooms. The gym is constantly way too hot. There are no fans to help circulate the air. The machines are very out of date, run down, and unacceptably dirty. (Gum stuck in the cup holders, the soft rubber coating that goes over handles and machines is melting off the equipment and gets on personal items and hands. The seats are cracked. The doors are always locked except for one side door, which is very annoying during busy hours.

the smudge that you see is where I rubbed my thumb to remove greasy grime on the tiles. The hot tub is not only dirty, it is nasty.

I sent the attached photos the the "customer service" email. No response. If you received photo like this and your business touted it pool ad hot tub, maybe you'd respond asap. I'm still waiting for a response. I've called twice an the person who oversees the pool and hot tub weren't in. No offer to take my name and number. So not only are the pool and hot tub unsatisfactory, the customer service is as well. The rest of the gym may be fine, but if you are joining to swim or soak, I strongly suggest against it.

When I first joined LA Fittness in Cranston, RI, about a year and a half ago I was really excited. The pool and the whirlpool were a big draw. For the last couple of months the pool and whirlpool area has been closed, and while they say they are doing repairs on those areas there is no sign of that. A quick peek into that area revealed a situation that has only gotten worse and more dangerous: walls falling down, peeling paint, and mold everywhere. They did not even have the sense to drain the water while the space is inactive. Also, the other areas are increasingly dirty and more and more equipment is out of commission. It really makes me wonder what is going on.

    Ripped seat

Filthy, equipment is old and poorly maintained . See photo of tipped seat. I inquired with staff and they said " cooperate doesn't do anything when members complain " . Nice. I cancelled after only being a member for 2 weeks.

I was originally happy when I joined LA about a year ago because I was use to a gym about 1/3 the size which often filled up very quickly; however, after spending more time here, I'm really hoping Providence gets some better options. I want to preface my following points by saying that there are some weeks that are much more satisfactory than others, but things have been consistently bad, which is what motivated this review. First, the gym itself is not well taken care of/cleaned. It smells, the carpet is filthy, and the equipment isn't clean/taken care of. Second, machines (as evidenced in the photos) are constantly broken and waiting to be serviced, some for MONTHS. Third, the patrons are generally rude and obnoxious...weights/equipment are left scattered everywhere (and not picked up by staff), some of the douchey "men" take up multiple sets of weights and multiple machines at the same time, and unhinged grunting and weight slamming (love that your pushing yourself but you can do so while being respectful of others...oh, and maybe work on those toothpick legs of yours once in a while too). Fourth, staff could be more welcoming and more team oriented. I'm sure tasks are delegated to people in certain positions, but when your workplace is a disaster, maybe an all-hands-on-deck situation is appropriate. I also find it kind of wild that there could be 2-6 people sitting at desks not doing anything while you have handicapped staff doing all the cleaning and picking up. Lastly, to the patrons who feel the need to park in handicap spots (with no disability placard) because you don't want to walk the extra 50 feet to the GYM doors, you're trash. Do better.

It is posted to "not record" but apparently people don't care. True story I was doing curls in the mirror and two bros came up next to me, one on each side. They started to tape one another as well as myself because I was sandwiched between them. After one bro was done with his set he requested to view the video from the other bro. " dude you didn't get my traps at the peak, you gotta get them at the peak". This kind of behavior is invasive to anyone who doesn't want to be video taped. The equipment is top notch. Best around in my opinion, but it's so squished together that smashing your knees and elbows into equipment is a common theme. More importantly the bathroom doors have been broken in the men's for for years. Come on guys, it's an easy fix. The staff is super friendly and the place is clean. Lastly, the snow removal is a joke. Shovel a path into the gym from the side lot, it only takes a few minutes.

However, what we learned is there were no benefits to adding family members to the current membership. The price is the same, each family member pays the same price for gym maintenance, so no break there. Lastly, if one of the family members needs to cancel their contract, you have to buy out the remaining contract and it can not be transferred to another family member without a fee. Ultimately, do not get fooled, there is NO benefit to adding a family member. Norton Mgr. Tyler is not helpful or customer oriented. BTW - we pay an annual fee for maintenance and on any given day there are at least 5-6 machines out of service.

Now my fiancé and I wanted to get in shape for our wedding next year and we knew we had to start now. I chose PE fitness studio because it had the ambiance I wanted, a comfortable setting to work out that was a typical gym. They host small group classes and one on ones, so you won't catch some creep in a machine in the corner slowly moving while staring at you. Perfect. Not looking to go to a gym. I need someone to motivate me to not quit and just sit there. Laurel suggested we start with 20 half hour sessions with me and my fiancé. I couldn't commit so I agreed on 15 but will definitely be buying more. She motivates me by chatting me up about my favorite topics to get me forget about the agonizing pain in my butt as I squat across the room. You think 30 mins isn't a lot, but when you mix in cardio and the deathly push ups, trust me, it is. Laurel is a sweetheart and doesn't let me quit! The other day she threatened me with burpees if I tried to cheat on my across the room squats, aka I ran halfway across the room when she wasn't looking! Laurel is a sweetheart and soooooo flexible with scheduling. I 100% suggest one on one training with her. It's pricier than a gym but let's be honest, you weren't going to the gym. You're less likely to cancel when you have a wonderful sweet woman waiting on you!!! Did I mention she has an adorable pit bull puppy and she texts me photos of him all the time??? Because she does!
