I loved my first experience at Peace of Mind Pilates. Marisa is an excellent teacher, and she explained all the reformer exercises beautifully. I never knew how fun the reformers could be until I had a few classes and got used to the movements. I think this studio is great for people of all ages and athletic abilities because there are so many modifications you can do and still receive an amazing workout! Many years ago, a severe ankle break stopped me in my tracks and the orthopedist said find a pilates teacher and stick with it or you'll find arthritis preventing you from the life you love...I started with Marisa before she had kids and we've worked together for more than 20 years, from her first rented space and the sweet little studio in her home and now the lovely place where I go twice a week. Just came back from marching a parade in New Orleans and thanked her when I stumbled for a minute then got right back up, and back to the parade. I started taking Pilates in January. I had never done this before and wanted to find an exercise routine to strengthen my body in different ways than what I was doing at the gym. I also had chronic shoulder and neck pain that wasn't being helped by other therapies. Less than Three months later, I was pain free. I have discovered this yoga and Pilates studio by my house and I love it! It is located downstairs busy body fitness in the University Hills shopping area so look for that sign because the studio doesn't have signs facing the street. I always feel great after I exercise because the instructors are fantastic. It is always clean and inviting and I love use of aromatherapy oils to clean the air or help balance after yoga. Marisa is the best. My only previous Pilates class had ended in disaster. The day after I had to see the P.T. for a neck and hip strain. A friend talked me into a trial class at Peace of Mind Pilates. I relayed my previous experience to Marisa and she said that she works with each clients strength and "weaknesses (and in my case fears). And that is exactly what she has done. I had surgery in December and missed about 8 weeks of Pilates. When I came back to class she put me (and another student) into a spinal alignment class which has been wonderful. Her advice was that we do what we can with our own "issues" and know our limitations. She has been so kind and caring in spite of our "whining". The result is that soon we will be able to join a Level 1 class. Each time I leave a session with Marisa, I walk out the door feeling tall and strong and with a smile on my face. Most of her clients were hesitant to tell Marisa that the Pilates studio, where she leased space and had been for several years had become noisy and cramped. When she found out that her "PEACE OF MIND PILATES" students/clients were not receiving peace of mind due to the environment, she found a new space. I've been doing one-on-one Pilates with Marisa for more than 5 years. I am in my 50's but I feel stronger than I was in my 30's; my posture is great and when I started yoga last year, I've got comments from instructors on how strong my core is. Marisa is very patient, she constantly corrects your form (that's a must for me, I never get injured and I get the best results from every set of exercises). This is a great, conveniently located studio which offers many services. Marisa is a wonderful teacher and an expert in Pilates instruction and form. She encourages you to work within your level and to continue to strive for a better workout. She offers mat classes, reformer classes, and a variety of individual workouts. I'm still working so finding time to exercise is sometimes a challenge. Classes offered over the lunch hour make it easy to slip out during my lunch break for a good workout. I know I am stronger, more flexible and my endurance has improved. The classes are small which make them very comfortable and it is fun to chat with the other ladies in class. I would highly recommend Marisa to anyone interested in improving their core strength, flexibility, posture and aging gracefully by improving their long, lean muscles. read more

I had given up all hope. My left shoulder froze due to a rotator cuff injury. After three months of PT that recovered only minimal movement, my right shoulder also froze! I was no longer able to dress myself and the pain from turning the steering wheel meant I would soon be unable to drive. Then my daughter found Marisa and Peace of Mind Pilates. I have been in pilates classes for many years with a variety of instructors. I have finally found the best with Marisa! She is very knowledgable and constantly taking classes to keep up with the latest techniques. She really pays attention to form and keeps all her students aligned.
