We both learned things we never knew about geology and archaeology. The entrance to the museum is right off the street, free street parking too. The museum is located inside the boys & girls community center, which is inside an old school, so when we arrived the very nice staff unlocked the door to the exhibit rooms for us with no problem. The building that has all the information on is really nice and the people working here are very helpful and provide lots of information. There is an educational Center and a place to watch videos and they even have a board of what types of birds have been spotted on The Refuge in the morning. There is a little gift shops to buy overpriced items if you want. My daughter found an owl pellet on the ground outside the building and asked if she could keep it they were nice and allowed her to take it home so now we get a dissected and see if we can find a rodent. They also have information about all the activities they have throughout the year and how they celebrate different types of birds. This place is right off the freeway and it's definitely worth a 5 minute drive to this place. Also another nice thing is it is all free.

The indoor area of the museum is very well done with lots of displays and exhibits that educate guests on the different pre-historic beings. There were far more than I could have named on my own with my basic "Land Before Time" dinosaur knowledge. Upstairs, you'll find rocks and gems, which is well done although maybe less interesting to some folks. However, take a peek at the dinner rocks-there's a whole display of rocks that are in the shape of food. I got a kick out of that. Outside, there's lots of wide open space with paths that wander throughout the trees. There are dinos dispersed throughout the property, and a few benches to sit on. Lots of the grounds were covered in weeds, which may have been what the dinosaurs preferred to eat. However, in modern day, it just looks unkempt. For a kiddo-or adult-that has a fascination with dinosaurs, this could be a fun place to spend an afternoon. For the rest of us, an hour or two is probably plenty.

April 11 2026 during baby animal days, a storm with marble sized hail started beating the hiccups out of us , now me being from SWLouisiana don't get to see much action, I was fascinated at first but quickly had the danger sting the fire out my back end. I grabbed my grandson close and we ran with my sweater over him like a mother hen. When out of an old West movie, a cowboy on his electric pony pull up to us, yelled at my grandson, GET IN. (You know that boy listen...wow). I turned to help my daughter and 2 other babies in a stroller. Once they babies were safe, this cowboy asked gentlemen like, for me to get in. I did. In the mass confusion and shelter seeking, he did not loose his composure. Calmly stopping to look at my daughter for her safety. Checking capacity of the tiny village homes along the way. He drove us to the SUV in the field, relying on a 6 year old boy for directions...this child has not moved. He was standing against this stranger, not out of fear but total trust ., He asked if we would be ok, I said Yes, while explaining to grandson that this nice man needed to save more ladies and kids, like he did for us . Once we were clear, and could see my daughter and the babies coming through the grass lot of cars, the cowboy was gone. We would like to say a great big THANK YOU first to this man's mom, you taught him well. To his father for giving him the protective nature and control for any situation. To you sir, no matter your choice in ponies ...RIDE ON. Hopefully my grandson will be so kind. Thank you all again for a wonderful day .
