I've visited Purple Sky Winery several times--both with family and with friends--because I genuinely wanted to like it. I've never felt compelled to leave a public review of a restaurant before, but after multiple disappointing visits, I genuinely hope this one improves. That's why I'm leaving two stars instead of one: there's potential here, and I'd like to see it realized. Unfortunately, I don't plan on returning until significant changes are made in the kitchen. The one consistently positive aspect has been the service. Every visit, the front-of-house staff has been welcoming, attentive, and professional. They deserve recognition because they elevated an otherwise disappointing dining experience. The food, however, has repeatedly failed to justify its premium pricing. On one visit, the beurre blanc was served cold, leaving it heavy and unpleasant rather than rich and velvety. The forest herb pasta arrived garnished with two paper-thin slivers of what tasted like canned truffle, which felt more like an afterthought than a luxury ingredient. Nearly every dish was covered with oddly dyed edible flowers that added nothing to the flavor and often distracted from the plate itself. Another visit featured a halibut special topped with potato "scales." The concept was interesting, but the execution wasn't there. The potatoes were cut far too thick and weren't evenly layered across the fish, resulting in an awkward texture and uneven cooking. Properly blanching the potato slices beforehand would have made them more pliable and helped achieve the delicate scale effect the dish was clearly aiming for. I've also experienced overcooked lamb, bland seasoning, and dishes that lacked the depth and refinement you'd expect at this price point. Across multiple meals, the cooking has felt inconsistent, and too often the presentation seems to take priority over flavor. At these prices, I expect thoughtful execution, consistency, and food that leaves an impression for the right reasons. Instead, I left each visit feeling that the experience was more style than substance. It's disappointing because there's clear potential here, especially with such a strong service team. But until the kitchen becomes more consistent and the food better reflects the prices being charged, I won't be returning. read more

Great wine flight. Wine tasting in Utah is a fabulous treat. Food was delicious. The chicken alfredo was creamy and went well with the pint. Maybe play jazz, acoustic or even classical music. Really was a bit apprehensive about an Utah winery yet alone one in Ogden. On the plus side the ambiance is upscale and clean which for dinner makes the ambience above average in this market. We ordered from the tasting room menu which had a selection of appetizers. We had the crab cakes and charcuterie board. The charcuterie was a work of art and pretty good. The crab cakes were a bit soft with very finely diced crab that was a bit meh. Our server Nate (the sommelier) was quite friendly and engaging. We ordered two of the wine tasting flights (8 selections) which included a good representation of their entire wine list. If you are looking for a sophisticated and well-curated wine offering you will be disappointed. All the wines were very young and lacked any real character of note. I applauded the concept and effort they are putting into making this a high end experience, but the wines they currently offer will not get them there in my opinion. I wish them much success, it just isn't for me at this stage. I give the food (appetizers only) a 4 for presentation but a 3 overall from what I tasted. The wines I would rate a 2. In fairness I did not stay for dinner and my wife raved about the ambiance from a prior visit of their rather formal dining room. Purple Sky Winery was unique. We love that there is a fine dining restaurant near our home, but it felt out of place amongst the surrounding industrial buildings and fast food options. Once inside, the restaurant was beautiful. We felt like we had fallen through a wormhole/backroom and were in another city, like Salt Lake or Park City. And then, they were playing the Beach Boys. I love the Beach Boys, but it felt like an odd choice for the atmosphere they're aiming for. We arrived at 4:30pm and were told that they didn't open for dinner until 5pm, but we could wait at the bar. We opted to wait and look over the menu. (Maybe consider updating your hours on Yelp to separate dining and tasting hours.) At 5pm we approached the host stand again, they asked if we had a reservation. When we said no, they had to discuss amongst the other staff. They came back and told us we could have a table as long as we finished before the table's 7pm reservation arrived. We assured them we would be done before 7pm and were seated. It felt awkward. It would have been great to know they were fully booked before we waited 30 minutes. The servers were both very good, but nothing like you get at upscale SLC restaurants. These were young adults doing their best, but not the professional waiters you get at elite restaurants. The food was all delicious. My husband's well-done steak was perfectly cooked and still moist. He commented that my steak is just as good and his fries tasted identical to McDonald's. He skipped the fries, but we took them home and our teen who liked them. The focaccia was soft and warm and served with pretty salted butter. The lobster mac and cheese smelled fishy, but tasted good. The sea bass tipped over as the waiter served it, but I didn't mind. It was delicious and perfectly cooked. The spinach and beurre blanc were a nice accompaniment. Our glasses were never empty, but they were not kept full like they do at most upscale restaurants. Not sure if we will go back. Just driving up to this place you get the ambience of a winery and the atmosphere inside did not disappoint. We ordered drinks, smoked old fashion, Bloody Marys, and a blackberry mint mojito with vodka - the Bloody Mary was the best drink and I don't like Bloody Marys!!! The old fashioned was lacking the orange and cherry that we are used to , just tasted like whiskey on the rocks. The food was scrumptious we had the salmon, burger, French dip, and avocado toast with over easy eggs added. The service was amazing the waitress was always there to take away plates and see if we wanted anything else, which was good because we kept changing our minds and she recommended the tomato jam ... a homemade ketchup, that everyone enjoyed. This place will be a great place to come back in the future and want to do the wine tasting:) and try other items on the menu. Price is reasonable for the atmosphere and quality of food and service you will experience. Pleasant Views Finest Dining Establishment! We were very excited to try this new restaurant and had high expectations and to say they were exceeded is an understatement. It's both classy and upscale, yet warm and inviting, making it a wonderful place to enjoy a meal. Service was attentive. Our servers checked on us consistently, and our water glasses were never empty. For entrées, we ordered the Steak Frites and Filet Mignon, both of which were absolutely delicious. The flaky salt was the perfect finishing touch, and the steaks were so tender they practically melted. While the mashed potatoes accompanying the fillet left much to be desired in taste and portion, the quality of the main dishes more than made up for it. The unexpected star of the evening was the charcuterie board. Featuring locally sourced delicacies and unique flavors it was truly an experience of its own. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and each have unique ambiences. We look forward to returning in the future to experience more of their offerings! read more

First of all, the venue is beautiful. When we got out of the car, we immediately just walked around for a few minutes and looked at the grounds. It was Sunday at 1 o'clock, so it was pretty empty, just a few tables inside and a few tables on the patio. We ordered the spicy bloody Mary's ($18 each so we were pretty unsure if it would be worth it) but we had a gift card so... We looked at the menu and decided on the omelette, but asked the waitress if they could take out the bell peppers, maybe add mushrooms or spinach, and scramble it. (We ask this anytime we order an omelette and have never had an issue before.) We sat and waited about 15 minutes, talking about how cool it would be to just come and spend an evening on the patio and have dinner and wine. Eventually a woman came over and said the chef refused to make any alterations or substitutions to the menu. We were a little shocked at the verbiage. If the menu had said on it that (being a brunch menu) there would be no alterations or substitutions. fair enough - but to tell us that the chef "refuses"? That just didn't sit well. We also still didn't have our drinks. We looked at the menu again and ordered the Wagyu burger. My husband jokingly asked if we would have the opportunity to choose how we liked it cooked or would that be up to the chef as well. The burger had good flavor, albeit difficult to eat because it was slick and wet with the sauce they put on it. The bun was good, but didn't hold up well to all the extra liquid. All things being equal, it was 45 minutes before we got our food. The bloody Mary's were good, but not $18 good. All in all we decided that we would not be coming back, unless it's to do a wine tasting with the effervescent and ever-joyful Carla Blakney, who is only there every other week so be sure to catch her when she's there. read more

The week previous we ate at Hells Kitchen in Vegas and the Tartar here at Purple Sky was above and beyond better than the tartar I had in Vegas. I really wanted to love Purple Sky Winery because it's such a beautiful addition to Pleasant View. The atmosphere is elegant, the setting is unique for our area, and I appreciate having a winery and upscale dining option close to home. I've visited five times. While I've enjoyed some of those visits, three of the five have fallen short of the experience I expected. One involved food quality that simply didn't meet the expectations of the restaurant, and two involved interactions with the manager. During one visit, my wine was served in a visibly dirty and spotted glass. Instead of simply replacing it, the interaction became uncomfortable. After taking the glass back, the manager's words and nonverbal communication made my guest and me feel as though our concern was being questioned rather than simply acknowledged. For a winery that prides itself on providing an elevated experience, that was disappointing. My most recent visit was even more frustrating. A loved one who lives out of state purchased a birthday gift card for me. Because Purple Sky doesn't currently offer electronic gift cards, I had to stop by the winery to pick up the physical gift card. When I arrived, the manager explained that there were two gift cards with no names attached--one for $150 and one for $500. Rather than working to resolve the issue internally, he repeatedly asked me to contact the person who had purchased my gift to verify the amount. I politely explained several times that I wasn't comfortable doing that because my loved one was out of state and likely at work, and I didn't want to inconvenience her over an issue that originated with the winery's recordkeeping. I was also concerned that it would diminish her confidence in the experience she intended to give as a birthday gift. He then handed me one of the gift cards and simply said, "Here, just take this," even though he had already explained that the gift cards had not been identified by recipient. That left me with little confidence that the issue had actually been resolved. What disappointed me most wasn't that a mistake had been made. Mistakes happen. It was the way it was handled. A simple apology, acknowledgment of the error, and assurance that he would work to resolve it would have gone a long way. Even inviting me to have a seat while he looked into it or extending another thoughtful gesture of hospitality would have reflected the type of customer service I expected from an upscale winery. Instead, I left feeling that the responsibility for solving the problem had been placed on me. When I asked who the general manager was, he told me that he was. I then asked if he would provide the owner's name so I could share my concerns. He declined, said he didn't have a business card, told me he was the highest level of management, and added, "Good luck trying to figure out who the owner is--you'll have to reach him in China." Purple Sky has created a beautiful winery and restaurant that our community is fortunate to have. My hope is that management places the same emphasis on hospitality and customer care as it has on creating a beautiful venue. Exceptional restaurants aren't remembered because they never make mistakes--they're remembered because of how they make their guests feel when those mistakes occur. I genuinely hope Purple Sky succeeds because I believe it has tremendous potential. I would also encourage the winery to offer electronic gift cards so family and friends who live out of state can conveniently purchase gifts without requiring someone to stop by the winery to pick them up. read more

So we went here with our family. A group of 12. Made reservations as we were all excited to try the new restaurant. The wait staff was so slow and often none existent. The soft drinks are in cans which I thought was odd for a fancy restaurant. The food was really good! Very happy with the appearance and the quality! But the staff was, well the staff not so good. Our drinks were often empty, she forgot drink orders and we waited and waited. She forgot 1 of the salads then my sister n law had to wait 15 min for her salad as we all had ours. Foodwise, the halibut and sea bass were both outstanding--perfectly cooked, incredibly fresh, and packed with flavor. The rib eye steak was just as impressive: juicy, rich, and seasoned to perfection. Portions were very generous, which made the experience even better. On top of the amazing food, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. We were celebrating our daughter's birthday and they immediately recognized that which was a nice touch. You can tell they really care about the dining experience from start to finish. Wow! What a wonderful restaurant and wine tasting room. We had the best service from Adam. We ordered flights of wine and a charcuterie board. Adam was extremely knowledgeable and made wonderful recommendations. We were celebrating our anniversary and this location was perfect. The building is beautiful and the outside atmosphere when you pull up makes you feel like you're in Sonoma or Napa (in some small way). The wine was delicious and so was the charcuterie board. We bought wine to take home for our special occasion. When we walked out, we were already planning our next trip back to enjoy this incredible place. This was very sub par!! Our drinks were empty half the time before being asked if we would like a refill. Very disappointed. Valentine's Day Eve was the first time I had tried Purple Sky. I brought my partner and we had such a great experience. Beginning with the servers, Mildred and Alicia were very attentive and welcoming. They had the best service I have experienced in a while. I got a porterhouse steak that was refreshingly simply seasoned with i believe just sea salt so the meat was the start of the show. That was a quality piece of meat. Went wine tasting on 6/28/25. The ambience is classy and very enjoyable. Our server Missy was very knowledgeable about the wines we we tasted. We were quite impressed with the estate wines made from Frontenac grapes. The charcuterie board was delightful and well paired with wines we tasted. Closer to 3.5ish stars. Seems like they've improved on their service, as we had no issues with long wait times like other reviewers had. The service was pretty good! I got steak frites and the fries were delicious, but the steak was much closer to medium well/well than medium rare. Was definitely disappointed in that. My partner got salmon and that was good, but the portion was small for the price. The drinks were good, but we were disappointed both of their house whites were sold out. First timer. I love to see an upscale restaurant "north". The staff was a little stuffy and it would have been nice to have our drinks before diner but the salmon was amazing. I will gladly pay top dollar for fine dining, but my table better not wiggle and if you provide dull steak knives, that steak bes be like butter. Overall I'm going to give it another shot. The person who was supposed to explain the choices had a script and knew nothing about wines. They had generic wines only describing type and state. We had to ask for them to bring a charcuterie board. Then we had to beg for napkins. Not enough for everyone. Then we proceeded to dinner experience were the food temperature was wrong for all steaks and the fish special - a sword fish - and the shrimp dish were inedible. And they don't have any type of hot sauce. Not even Tabasco. To tip if off a server stopped serving alcohol to a guest because they assumed she was tipsy. Remember the first 3 letters of assumption. The only positive is that bathrooms were clean and had a nice faucet but would not go back even if it was free. read more

Duck and our friends split a 30 oz ribeye) took 2 hours to come out and the food was cold. asked for bread several times and never received any. very hard to get additional glasses of wine and this is a winery? the gila red blend was like a non sweet sangria. very nice. the riesling was dry and not sweet. very lovely. other reds were awful. Didn't order dessert because we didnt want to wait another hour for it. Prices were wasaay too expensive for the quality. So disappointing. read more

What a fantastic ambiance. You enter into one of the most beautiful welcoming areas in Utah. The staff is elite in their service. The food is hit or miss. One item is outrageously good. Another is fine. The local (honeyville) wines are fantastic. The mixed drinks are fantastic. You are already spending way too much money, get something different from the menu.
