I need to warn everyone about my experience at this office, specifically with Dr. Harpeet Walia…read more It's an administrative disaster capped off with genuinely shocking behavior from the doctor himself. The back office is consistently incompetent with insurance. You'll wait months for an appointment, then wait over an hour in the waiting room, only to be told your insurance is denied because they didn't file the paperwork. They will outright tell you they did, but when you call your insurance (Aetna), you'll find either nothing was ever submitted or you received a denial because they refused to fill out the form required by state regulations and their in-network contracting agreement. Then they blame you for it. But the absolute worst part was my interaction with Dr. Walia. After a year of this, I finally brought them proof that their office had used the wrong form--for the second time. Instead of apologizing, Dr. Walia took me into a side room and completely unloaded on me. He was condescending, yelled, and treated me like a child for daring to point out their mistake. It was a total Jekyll and Hyde moment from his usual calm demeanor and was honestly shocking. And guess what? After his tantrum, they suddenly "found" the form, submitted it correctly, and everything was approved immediately. Proving the problem was them all along. The cycle just repeated at my last appointment. They tried to turn me away again stating a claim denial. When I politely asked to step to the side while I verified the situation, the staff used strong language suggesting that I was unwelcome. Upon returning home, I find that once again, they failed to use the correct form. Now I want you to let it sink in that this was a RETURN visit for a previous turn-away several weeks prior where they claimed they could not secure any of my medication for "free". It turns out I had coverage during this ENTIRE period they were giving me this line about doing me a favor because my insurance wouldn't this or that. It's shocking how you trust, and follow the narrative of the people handling their duties, implicitly, only to find out reality is totally unrelated. Why even do this? How does this even happen? Save yourself the stress. The administrative runaround is bad enough, but being verbally abused by the doctor for holding them accountable is something no patient should ever experience. I wouldn't trust them with my care, or with handling a simple insurance form.

However, everything billing-related has made this experience the absolute worst experience. This may come off harsh, but the fact is Milan Eye Center is incompetent when it comes to billing, and they refuse to take any responsibility. They hire a 3rd party billing company overseas, so every time you call their office to discuss anything "billing-related," you are automatically transferred to their overseas contracted billing partner. Why in the world would you hire such an incompetent company to handle all your billing? This is a multimillion-dollar eyecare practice. We knew this surgery would happen, and switched insurance plans as the new plan had a specific flat in-network $1,000 copay for each eye for Cataract Surgery. The total surgery should have cost $2,000, plus the additional co-payments for other doctor visits/eval pre- and post-surgery. Guess what? Milan Eye Center never billed UHC. At the last moment, we were forced into taking out a $5,000 loan from CareCredit to pay for the Cataract Surgery. To make matters worse, after the surgery, Milan Eye Center billing third party started sending bills for $3,900 for the same surgery. ; First of all. Milan Eye Center will NOT perform any surgery until the costs are all paid off in full, meaning you cannot enter the surgery room, hence why we had to take out the $5,000 loan. So a surgery that should have cost $2,000 with insurance ended up costing $5,000 + now they want another $3,900. Cataract Surgery is not $8,900, including insurance; the total to them should be $10,900? After the surgery, we spoke with the insurance. Milan Eye Center never filed it through them, even though they are in-network. After a year, we finally paid off the $5,000 loan we should have never had to taken out... and now they still want $3,900... As someone who has worked in healthcare, what this practice is doing is unethical and illegal. [Review 742] - 15th Review of 2025

From the check in person and billing person at my check in both were kind and informative even though the AC was out in their area ! Once I was called back in about 15 minutes. They took my friend to the other waiting room bc it had ac The nurses that did my initial set up were great! Leigh and Susan were very good to me as were the others but I didn't get their names. Dr. Willman is excellent and he tells the truth but in a way that's not upsetting if that makes sense. Due to my eye condition there was no choice for me I had to do the laser, plus Dr. Willman had to chip away too. The staff make sure that you are comfortable with blankets etc etc. Plus they take them off when you get hot. Everyone was friendly and kind. I let everyone know that when I'm nervous I tend to talk a LOT but they didn't seem to have an issue with it. My actual surgery was scheduled for 11 but I didn't go back until 11:30. I had the best BP readings in my life at a doctor's office!! The nurse also used the vein that I wanted her too. Once she got the needle in my blood started going and went slightly overboard but she cleaned up everything making sure no blood got on my clothes. She even changed the dressing bc she said it was too messy for her liking! My follow up is tomorrow and my right eye is scheduled for 4 weeks. My eye feels irritated and scratchy under this big eye shield but not painfully so. I'll be glad for the shield to be removed tomorrow at the follow up. The surgery center was immaculate so bright and clean. I highly recommend CarlinVision!

He would reach out to shake my hand then proceed to wipe his hand on his pant leg in front of me which I thought was rude and was very short when answering my questions. But I came back home, mainly because they performed my LASIK and I felt my eyesight was detonating and I should start wearing contacts/glasses again. I came in to set up an appointment and the ladies there were really nice. The office is always clean and they have a huge waiting area with plenty of seating and refreshments while you wait to be called back. The lady (I didn't get her name) I spoke with suggested I see Dr. Thornhill, after I told her I would rather see a different doctor than the one I saw the past couple of times I was there. I am so thankful for her because Dr. Thornhill restored my faith! He was very charismatic, funny, and just overall great energy! He answered all my questions and addressed any concerns I had. He also recommended eye exercises I can do since I'm constantly staring at a computer screen during my work day. So if you are not sure which doctor to see, I definitely recommend Dr. Thornhill.

We arrived 20 minutes early and found the waiting room packed. Mask mandate but a packed room! When we checked in, we were immediately told that only one person could go in to see the doctor (again, but waiting in a packed room!). I told the receptionist that my husband is almost deaf and cannot see well (think about fine print when you have a huge dark spot in your eyes), and that I was with him to ensure that he understands the procedure, the pre- and after-care, and the possible risks associated with surgery. Also, as his spouse and caregiver, I should know all this as well. Still: No, only one person can go into the room. Very upset, we left and when we came home, I called the office to complain and let them know that this is discrimination against a disabled person, denying him his patient's rights. Then we were told that he was not scheduled to talk about surgery but for yet another injection. Also, IF the doctor wanted to talk to me, I would have been called in. That is not what my husband heard at his previous appointment. Based on the denial of assistance plus the way it was communicated to us, we will not return to Georgia Retina.
