However, everything billing-related has made this experience the absolute worst experience. This may come off harsh, but the fact is Milan Eye Center is incompetent when it comes to billing, and they refuse to take any responsibility. They hire a 3rd party billing company overseas, so every time you call their office to discuss anything "billing-related," you are automatically transferred to their overseas contracted billing partner. Why in the world would you hire such an incompetent company to handle all your billing? This is a multimillion-dollar eyecare practice. We knew this surgery would happen, and switched insurance plans as the new plan had a specific flat in-network $1,000 copay for each eye for Cataract Surgery. The total surgery should have cost $2,000, plus the additional co-payments for other doctor visits/eval pre- and post-surgery. Guess what? Milan Eye Center never billed UHC. At the last moment, we were forced into taking out a $5,000 loan from CareCredit to pay for the Cataract Surgery. To make matters worse, after the surgery, Milan Eye Center billing third party started sending bills for $3,900 for the same surgery. ; First of all. Milan Eye Center will NOT perform any surgery until the costs are all paid off in full, meaning you cannot enter the surgery room, hence why we had to take out the $5,000 loan. So a surgery that should have cost $2,000 with insurance ended up costing $5,000 + now they want another $3,900. Cataract Surgery is not $8,900, including insurance; the total to them should be $10,900? After the surgery, we spoke with the insurance. Milan Eye Center never filed it through them, even though they are in-network. After a year, we finally paid off the $5,000 loan we should have never had to taken out... and now they still want $3,900... This is a very busy practice - always has been - and Dr Johnson and the staff are very capable of…read morehandling that volume - in fact, I do not recall ever having an appointment that was late - 01/14/2025, was no exception - i was seen for initial tests very quickly and on time - then i was sent back to the waiting room where i did sit for a bit longer than usual - and when in the exam room with Dr Johnson, we were interrupted on x3 separate occasions by the staff (again, highly unusual) HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED - there was an elderly patient who was in the middle of a potential medical emergency that Dr Johnson had discovered during the patient's visit - and Dr Johnson and the staff were doing whatever was needed to get the patient the treatment they needed - and the patient was not cooperating (due to costs i think) - so while they were trying to see me for my routine annual eye exam, they were serving the needs of a patient who was at risk and really did not understand it - and here is what was amazing to me - not only did they get the patient the care they needed, but they completed my exam, including ALL of the tests, and stayed until my visit with the optician (Aquiel - who is a whole other level of amazing on her own!) was complete - see, this was now after regular business hours - Dr Johnson and the staff continued to offer apologies for "my inconvenience" - which really was not much - this is a people centric practice (and they have updated their lineup of high end frames) - i highly recommend!

Dr Johnson is a very experienced optometrist and has a very nice bed side manor to examine your eyes. He incorporates high tech in the examination that eliminates the need for dilation but you can still get that if you prefer. Anyway. the whole process from paperwork,exam, etc. to picking out your frames is efficient and professional from the staff. Also, there is a wide selection of frames at different prices. Dr. Flores's secretary was able to get us an appointment the following week and she was really awesome and very professional. My kids were able to see Dr. Flores and let me tell you, this guy is really cool. Dr. Flores absolutely loves what he does and it shows. He explains everything in great detail, has a sense of humor, educates you as he goes step through step, and answers all of your questions. Something that could be a scary experience for a child, he makes it as fun of an experience as he can. Dr. Flores does not use tropicamide either to dilate your pupils, which is wonderful, as they use a new device that does not require it. This is important, as you can leave the office and not have to worry about having your eyes hurting by the sunlight. His office uses an Optomap device, this digitally scans the retina, is non-invasive, and takes only seconds to complete. A thorough eye exam here is $100 as of 2022 and that does include the prescription. For anyone who needs an eye exam, I would highly recommend seeing Dr. Flores. As for buying lenses and glasses, all of those are sold through Costco's, not Dr. Flores as he is independent and does not work for Costco's eye department. If you need lenses/glasses I would highly recommend going to Lilburn Family EyeCare and seeing Optician Troy Weber, he is the best in the area and will make sure your lens is the exact same as your prescription. The back office is consistently incompetent with insurance. You'll wait months for an appointment, then wait over an hour in the waiting room, only to be told your insurance is denied because they didn't file the paperwork. They will outright tell you they did, but when you call your insurance (Aetna), you'll find either nothing was ever submitted or you received a denial because they refused to fill out the form required by state regulations and their in-network contracting agreement. Then they blame you for it. But the absolute worst part was my interaction with Dr. Walia. After a year of this, I finally brought them proof that their office had used the wrong form--for the second time. Instead of apologizing, Dr. Walia took me into a side room and completely unloaded on me. He was condescending, yelled, and treated me like a child for daring to point out their mistake. It was a total Jekyll and Hyde moment from his usual calm demeanor and was honestly shocking. And guess what? After his tantrum, they suddenly "found" the form, submitted it correctly, and everything was approved immediately. Proving the problem was them all along. The cycle just repeated at my last appointment. They tried to turn me away again stating a claim denial. When I politely asked to step to the side while I verified the situation, the staff used strong language suggesting that I was unwelcome. Upon returning home, I find that once again, they failed to use the correct form. Now I want you to let it sink in that this was a RETURN visit for a previous turn-away several weeks prior where they claimed they could not secure any of my medication for "free". It turns out I had coverage during this ENTIRE period they were giving me this line about doing me a favor because my insurance wouldn't this or that. It's shocking how you trust, and follow the narrative of the people handling their duties, implicitly, only to find out reality is totally unrelated. Why even do this? How does this even happen? Save yourself the stress. The administrative runaround is bad enough, but being verbally abused by the doctor for holding them accountable is something no patient should ever experience. I wouldn't trust them with my care, or with handling a simple insurance form.

After speaking to several friends about their experience with their LASIK surgery and how happy they were with it, I decided to take the plunge, and am soooo glad I did! I decided to go with mono focal surgery and have one eye done for close vision and my dominant eye done for distance vision. I had tried it before with contacts and had no problems with it, my brain works it out and I don't notice any difference unless I cover one eye. I had the surgery 2 days ago and am already seeing things better than I have in a long time! Dr. Wild was super patient with me, taking his time to answer all my questions, explain the procedure and what to expect, even what could be done later if I didn't like the mono vision. Dr. Smith was great, explaining what was going to happen during surgery and even telling me what was going on during the surgery. He and the tech made sure I was comfortable and had enough numbing drops in my eyes that I couldn't feel anything that was happening. All of the staff from the girls that checked me in at the front, to the techs that helped me through each process were extremely friendly and helpful with any questions I had. They put my mind at ease about having surgery on my eyes. I was referred to LASIK Plus in Duluth by a friend who had his surgery done there over 10 years ago and will be highly recommending the Duluth location and their staff to everyone I speak to about My LASIK surgery!!
