It's considered the end of the line! But I made a discovery today that's somewhat changed my perspective of this dreadful facility. It's been split into two parts. The part that is the last destination for patients is called Brookview. The second half of this place is now called Magnolias and it's for rehabilitation purposes! Patients not considered to be terminally assigned. I visited my old friend there today and I did it with trepidation! My many previous experiences here have been horrifying and disgusting! At any rate my old pal was in a private room that was very acceptable! The Magnolias portion did not smell bad and I didn't see any residents strapped to wheelchairs! The Brookview side is mostly filled with Medicaid patients crammed four people to a single room. Horrid smells and incoherent language with patients crammed together like sardines in a can is the norm! Magnolias on the other hand did not appear to be that way at all! Additionally; this review is about the physical facility and not the fantastic nursing staff at both places. I cannot thank the employees here enough for keeping a great attitude while working in challenging conditions! It takes special people to care for those who cannot help themselves!

Came to visit my step brother who is a resident of Manna Acute Care Facility. I am from out of town…read moreso my review is of my experience for two days of visits. The building is a bit older but is kept up fairly well. The smells of a care home are present but not as strong as some other care facilities that I have been to due to the staff always cleaning. The staff are wonderful and friendly and seem to take great care of their residents. Two people particularly stood out from my visit, Candice who was very friendly and was the one of the primary nurses assigned to my step brother's area. He required a lot of attention and Candice was always very polite and patient and assisted my stepbrother as best as she could. We also met Cam who was also very friendly and seems to genuinely care for the residents. He always had a smile on his face and would give a smile to residents as he passed by them. He told me he loved his job and that he genuinely cared for the residents. It showed watching him work for 2 days during my visits. I rarely post reviews but because I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome this place was, I thought I would write a review to let people know of my awesome experience at Manna Acute Care in Pickens, SC.

She's been there for almost two months... what have yall been doing??? Just chomping it up and playing monopoly????? We Came home I mean was she even in rehab and doing therapy?????? Or did you just lay her there in the bed all day????? Not only did you send her home like this. She was severely dehydrated and she told us she asked for water all day yesterday and you failed to bring it to her..She said the care there was awful and everytime we went and spoke to anyone about it we were told it got handled or they don't know what we were talking about-- so she is back in the hospital today.....now let's talk about the facility it smells like the back end of a horse...people in wheel chairs rolling around with their pee bags so full it's spilling on the floor. It's AWFUL. When I say I wouldn't let my dog stay here- I wouldn't. I seriously wouldn't even store barn animals here. I mean just walk in the front doors of this place it's like an adult playground. You have to literally go around a maze of elderly people in wheelchairs chairs to get through the front desk and door and don't forget hold your nose or you'll pass out from the strong smell of piss as you pass through the hallway to make your way to the back to see your family who is in rehab who is clearly not even in rehab they just sit back there in bed...Take your review for yourself once you walk in I mean I literally don't even have to say anything. Oh and by the way they sent us home with someone else's paper work. So that's a HIPAA VIOLATION. They called us wanting us to bring it back up there and so that means we went home with ZERO paperwork for our patient. THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! I cannot believe we had her there. I honestly will never forgive myself for having her here and I don't know how any of those people that work there even sleep at night. Don't even bother leaving a phone number or commenting back below your sorry or thanking me for my review because you weren't worried about when we were there. This review right here is for all the people who google this place who may want to look into for there loved one it's not for a call back or to hear from you trust me I already know that goes no where with yall.

They displayed compassion, care, empathy, and went above and beyond to not only support my elderly father but my family so that we were prepared for his discharge home. At first his case manager was extremely helpful until I started asking questions and being my father's advocate for his health and wellbeing. Once I started asking questions and reaching out to his insurance company for further support, the case manager changed her tone and began to drop the ball in many ways. She went from being his advocate to becoming silent with his care and not responding to me when I reached out. I had to follow up on all discharge care that she stated several times she would support us in so that he received everything he needed and that failed many times. I had to ask several questions and insist on in-home support. I offered several opportunities to work together yet that did not happen, and our calls became texts, which I was ok with, but then became silence on her part. The team of therapist were beyond wonderful, and they deserve all the credit in patient success. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the case manager and would not recommend their case management team to any family especially families that are advocating for their loved ones.

She had stayed at this wonderful facility 2 years ago for 6 weeks after a hip replacement. Everyone at The Lodge proved again to be exceptional. She probably had contact with the entire staff during this stay of 40 days. It would take pages to accurately state the attitudes of the entire staff. It began with smiles showing their concern to do everything possible for my wife during this difficult rehab experience. The smiles were the 'real deal', and were proven to be from the heart. She was shown professional care with love radiating from their hearts. This treatment produced contentment even when suffering physically. Contentment was the key that produced healing. Along with quality care from management, nursing, etc, they added something else to make the stay even more perfect. 'The FOOD'. Both my wife and I rate the food quality and taste higher than any restaurant that we have found in Asheville or Hendersonville. They permitted me to order my lunch or dinner and eat with her as often as I had time to do so. Yesterday, as we were trying to decide where to eat at some restaurant, my wife said, "Let's call The Lodge and see if they would let us order a meal one more time". I must add 1 more thing: 'The surrounding atmosphere'. From the 1st view, both inside and outside, the atmosphere was perfect. They even allowed our grandson to put a bird feeder outside her window. These 'birdwatching' experiences every day helped keep her mind on pleasant things when she was alone.

I am writing this review to warn others about the deeply troubling care my mother received at The…read moreLodge at Mills River. What she endured during her stay was not merely substandard -- it was a failure of basic human dignity that no patient should ever experience. My mother was admitted with a fractured pelvis, a serious and painful injury requiring careful, attentive care. Instead, pain management was grossly inadequate -- her suffering was never brought under control, and she was left in visible, prolonged distress. The facility does not provide patients with catheters despite limited mobility, leaving her lying for hours at a time in her own urine and excrement. This alone is a profound failure of basic nursing care. This is done to encourage patients to get out of bed, one staff member told me. When staff finally did attend to her, the handling of her body was alarmingly awkward. During cleaning, they moved her from side to side applying direct pressure to her fractured pelvis -- causing her tremendous, unnecessary pain. Whether this was due to a lack of training or simple carelessness, it is completely unacceptable for a patient with a known pelvic fracture. The environment itself was deeply distressing. A patient in an adjacent room could be heard repeatedly crying out "help me" -- for an extended period -- with no response whatsoever from staff. That sound will stay with me. It was not an isolated moment; it reflected the culture of neglect that seemed to permeate this facility. The attitude of much of the staff compounded everything. Several wore permanent scowls and did not mask their resentment when asked to respond to my mother's needs. Compassion and patience -- the very foundation of caregiving -- is in short supply when your job is driven by the numbers. I would urge anyone considering The Lodge at Mills River for a loved one to look elsewhere. Families trust these facilities with the people they love most, often at their most vulnerable. That trust was utterly broken here.

Whenever I visited, I was treated warmly, and my father was always resting comfortably in a clean room and a pristine bed, with carefully laundered, comfortable clothes. He had dementia, so he was unable to tell us how the staff was treating him (and never having been the type of person to complain) we had to take non-verbal cues. All the cues pointed to a staff that was both patient and caring. Trust was essential to us and something we considered heavily before deciding on a place for our beloved father. During his final days, our family experienced feelings that I cannot properly put into words here. Likewise, I am unable to express how sensitive the staff was in their treatment of my father. I imagine that they deal with loss on a regular basis, but never once did they regard our grief casually. My father was a kind, gentle, man and was known for his singing voice, his whistling, his love of jazz and his love of the Word. The staff made sure he was able to enjoy all these things during his final days. They all knew him by name, and said he was easy to care for and easy to care about. This was evident in their heartfelt farewell. You can not pay someone to care, and [care] is what they did here. Perhaps I have not adequately relayed, but in my heart I will absolutely, always appreciate every last member of this staff for giving of themselves so selflessly, when it counted most.
