The person who I took to be in charge of the bike shop is a Jerk. I picked up a bike share but it had flat tires. I rode to the closest bike shop , Peak Adventures and asked if they had air. Instead of just speaking plainly and telling me that he wouldn't or couldn't air the tires. He looked down his nose and in a mocking tone of voice said "Ooh that bike belooongs to someoone, Whooeever that is. It'll haave too bee retuurned to them." I didn't get his name but I'll never forget his face or voice. I'll never go back to that shop and I'll warn everyone I know about it. read more

You better hope you return your bike locker key on time. I failed to do so and they wouldn't return my key deposit fee. I got them on the phone and offered to renew my rental for another semester so I could avoid the key deposit fee going to waste and they could avoid having to re-key the locker. Everyone comes out happy that way right? Not quite. In order to do that, I'd have to pay the key deposit fee AGAIN. Why? Because I was a day late returning the key. Greed is good I guess. "The contract said this and that" blah blah blah. It doesn't make sense. Then the lady hits me with, "If you don't return the key, you'll never be able to rent from us again." Oh dear what ever shall I do?! They're just going to end up with another empty locker for the semester. If they had any sense they could have had another customer. This place is pretty cool! I recently moved to Sacramento across from campus. Before I start school at CSUS in the fall, I got a bike (one less car looking for a parking spot at school - you're welcome). The brakes on the bike aren't doing too well, so I rode over to Peak Adventures and sure enough, they sell bike pads, as well as many other accessories. The gentleman was super helpful. I spent an afternoon at the Peak Adventures Challenge Ropes Course for a friend's birthday and had a blast! John, Michael, and Kang (our instructors/belayers for the day) were fun, knowledgeable, and supportive. They led us through some group warm-ups and games and then tailored the rest of the day based on what courses our group wanted to try. They also did a good job accommodating a wide variety of skill sets. I'm not an experienced climber and initially had a hard time on the rock wall. However, the group energy was very positive and I still managed to try (and complete!) the other ropes course challenges, which was a big confidence boost. There were also picnic benches and puzzles on the ground for people to enjoy while watching or waiting their turn. Highly recommend this spot! read more

Review of the bike shop: I've been there three times in the past two weeks for a tune-up, new tires, new chain, new kickstand, etc.. and the staff are consistently helpful and don't make me feel like a moron for my lack of bike knowledge (like I have felt at other bike shops). Today, a particularly helpful gent removed an annoying crossbar I used to use for my daughter's WeeRide - completely free of labor charge although it took him like 10 minutes and looked frustrating. First things first, this review is solely on a Tahoe backpacking trip that I just finished with them. I cannot speak on any other activities or bike services that they offer. Okay now that that is out of the way I can talk about how amaze-balls my experience was! Shannon and Doug, with the help of Michael, were our leaders for this trip. There were two beginners, including myself and they were very helpful and answered all of our questions. The group that I went with was great, everyone vibed pretty swell together. Honestly I couldn't have asked for a better trip. The equipment was well taken care of, everything was straight forward, the meal that they provided was AWESOME, and I can't wait to go on another trip! Thank you guys soooo much! Highly recommend!!! P.S. Finding their office is terrible! But I'm not going to hold that against them, right now they are located right next to The Well, but I believe they are preparing to move soon. Google maps took me to the wrong place and I circled around campus FOREVER. I finally found someone to ask for directions, I would advise for you to do the same, students would definitely know better than Google. Apparently. read more

Located on the grounds of CSU Sacramento, at The Wells building, attached next door to the gym! It's been over 10 years since I last attended college here and I swore this building was never here...and of course I learned from my friend that we were paying for it while attending here...hahah...so my guess was right. Best way to get here is from College town dr to Stadium Dr, take that street down til it dead ends. The garage parking is on the right hand side directly across from The Wells building. There's a few 30 minute parking spots in front of the street. Quick skip to the store. Front counter helper was quick with getting my info, signed and bam...got my snowshoes! Rental is $20 for 4 days, they are closed on the weekends and closes at 5:30pm on the weekdays. You can call ahead and reserve your rental items. This is my second time and won't be the last. $150 deposit hold on a credit card or debit so make sure you return you equipment rentals the way you got it. read more

Okay so I got this fixie bike from a friend and I had to move the bike up from so cal and I guess somewhere along the bumpy ride something happened to the front wheel. Basically I went to a different bike shop and asked what was wrong and why the bolt wasn't tightening. He told me I needed to replace an axle or the wheels all together. First red flag because the wheels were new. Anyway long story short I brought it here and the guy who helped me was amazing! He took my bike to the back and checked everything!! All it came down to was my lug nut being the wrong size. Instead of spending over $100 I ended up spending less than $5. Thank you so much ! read more

i was introduced the peak adventures through their groupon for a bike tuneup. first things first. finding them was a nightmare! their listed address is the main entrance to sac state university off of J street but that is not exactly where they are located. i drove around for a little bit trying to find them and stopped to call for directions. the gal i spoke to was nice but it didn't help me much to tell me that they were located at "the well" (trust me, there are no signs for "the well"). i finally found an information booth and the guy pointed me in the right direction. but, after finding the correct building, i discovered there are no public parking spaces! i chanced it anyway and parked in a permit-required parking space. i finally located the bike shop at the western tip of the building. here are the exact GPS coordinates: 38.557377, -121.423886. staff is really cool. the bike techs are super knowledgeable and their prices are totally reasonable. i've had two bikes tuned by them and am very pleased with the work. i'd give them five stars except for the lack of parking and the difficulty in finding their location. read more

We took a group of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students to the Peak Adventures location at California State University, Sacramento for a field trip. The employees were professional, child friendly, encouraging, and polite. The kids did some team building exercises first, were instructed on how to put on their harnesses, were checked and double checked for safety, were taught how to use the obstacle course and encourage one another, and then were able to use each structure as time allowed. Their comments reflected that this was "the BEST field trip EVER"! I would like to return again with a group of friends, sometime! It would also be wonderful for corporate team building or family fun!!! I highly recommend it...unless you are deathly afraid of heights! read more

Don't let the "college campus shop" cliché fool you; the staff here are professional. They are experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly. You're always greeted when you walk in and they're there if you have any questions or just want to chat bikes. I have always been given sincere answers and advice when I call them up. Great resource. They have a decent display of accessories and commuting gear for a small shop, and they sold me a new seat post from behind the counter when I asked if they had a size for an old Peugeot. Sweet! A great place to stop by to or from your American River rides. Kudos for maintaining an awesome bike shop on campus. read more

Been here twice for the ropes course. Great team building activity and staff knows what they're doing. Professional and down to earth. The ropes course is a great activity to help with your team development, improve bonds and trust. The staff comes up with different things to do if your team comes back to do the ropes course for team building. I've lost respect for Peak Adventures bike shop at Sacramento State. I bought a bike tube from them roughly 6-7 months ago and it failed to what I believe to be a manufacture defect (the patch holding the valve burst, underneath). They initially told me that they would easily replace the tube, but after I brought it to them, they refused to replace because they think I over/under inflated the tire (no evidence for this). I'm not an idiot (I'm very knowledgeable about bikes) and my bike is very well maintained inside and out. The cost is not the issue, its principle. Anyways, this is why I will use WALMART (online) for all future bike part purchases, including this replacement. At least they stand behind their products. Its unfortunate that Peak Adventures DOESN'T understand what "repeat business" actually means. BTW: Pricing on parts is not any cheaper than the big retail stores, sometimes even more. I used to be loyal to Peak Adventures (convenience) until now. Hope my review informs future purchasing decisions. read more

I went there last week along with my daughter's class for a "Day on the Ropes Course". Unfortunately, the actual time on the Ropes was only about 2 hours while almost 4 hours was spent playing games on the grass field nearby, games that the kids could have done just as well on the field of their school without the rather high per person fee for the Ropes course. The kids ended up spending most of those 2 hours in lines for the 9 stations they had open for our group. Most of the kids did not even have the opportunity to try all the stations due to the long waits in lines. I had paid the fee to participate on the Ropes but once I realized that the kids could not get through the lines in a timely manner I stepped out of line...so I ended up paying $45 for the experience of putting on a harness and waiting over an hour in line for 1 station and then giving up my spot because I realized that there were more kids in line behind me than time would allow to try the station. But that was not the worst part... All the participants were required to sign a form that included a Do's and Don'ts list. I did not keep a copy of the form so I may not have the wording exact but under the Does was to "Good Attitude, Good Energy" while the Don'ts included "Negative Attitude, Negative Energy". For most of the day the Peak Adventures staff abided by those rules as did the kids in our group. However, shortly after our kids finally got onto the Ropes, a new staff member showed up, a middle aged woman with brown hair pulled back into a ponytail, riding her bike through the middle of the Ropes course area, barking at the kids to get out of her way. The rest of the time that our group was there she was nasty and unpleasant to both the kids and adults in our group. Yelling at our kids, yelling at our adults...most of the time we were all trying to figure out what she was so bend out of shape about. I don't know anything about the rest of the programs they offer at Peak Adventures...I was considering having my daughter attend their summer camp program next year...however after experiencing the wrath of The Middle-Age Ponytail Woman there is no way I would allow my child to have anything to do with their programs. The teachers from our school were not happy with the experience and I am pretty sure our school will not be returning to THIS Ropes Course...we will be looking for alternative Ropes Courses within driving distance of Sacramento for our kids to attend in the future. It is very unfortunate that one woman could ruin the day for over 75 people. This could have been a great experience for our kids if this company held its staff to the same requirements of attitude that they expect from the participants. read more

I took the basic bicycle maintenance class a few Saturdays back and it was fantastic. Three students, three instructors, access to the whole shop, a whole day of bicycle maintenance goodness. Nick, Tyler and Sam (I hope I got the names right) were fantastic. Patient, thorough, just exactly what I wanted. Thank you, that was money very well spent. My bike's all tuned up and I can keep it in tune just fine now. Seriously great. read more
