Hits the Korean street food craving! So happy we found this place during our travels in Banff. We went during a raining weeknight and it was fairly crowded. At first the restaurant felt small but when you go in further you do notice they have sufficient seating. The restaurant is divided into two sections. When you first walk in you order your main meal at the counter straight ahead from the entrance. To order specialty drinks and deserts you go to the other section of the restaurant to your right. We ordered the bulgogi chicken bowl, the fried chicken bowl, vegetarian chicken bowls and a couple of mozzarella corn dogs. They were all very good. You can pick the level of spiciness and they have extra sauces near the counter that you can add to your bowl. We also ordered one of the bingsu (strawberry flavored shaved ice with ice cream, and fresh strawberries). It was really tasty. We also had the muscat grape drink. It does come carbonated and a little sweeter than anticipated. Overall we were happy with our meal. Happy enough that we are planning on going again before having to leave the area. read more

We stopped by for a quick bite after a long day of hiking. Korean street food was a good choice as it is delicious, comfort, and quick. Everything is served in a paper cup, and you can decide if you want to dine-in at one of their small tables or take it to-go. Bowl #1 Korean BBQ bowl was the best, with marinated beef, egg strips, salad, and white rice. The menu said it was pork, but it tasted like beef to us. Bowl #6 Korean fried chicken and dumplings bowl was not bad, but the fried chicken wasn't Korean fried chicken. Korean fried chicken usually has a crispy coating and sometimes with a sweet and spicy glaze. Their "Korean fried" chicken had neither (1/2 star off). I still enjoyed the bowl, but it was more like a regular chicken and dumplings bowl. You can request to top your own sauce. They have bottles of garlic mayo, sweet chili sauce, ketchup, etc. in front for you to add as much as you want. This also means that the tables can be left with smears of random sauces. The staff does not clean tables (1/2 star off), so I had to do a thorough wipe-down of a sticky table before sitting down. After your meal, you can also try their bingsoo (Korean shaved ice). If you desire Korean food in Banff, here's a little slice of comforting Korean street food that will satisfy your cravings! It might be packed, but the service is quick and the food is worth the wait. If you can't find a table, I recommend finding a spot in the nearby park or riverside to enjoy your meal. I got a large bulgogi chicken cupbop and original bingsu. Each cupbop comes with rice, a fried egg, veggie dumplings, and salad. I was genuinely impressed by how much chicken and veggie dumplings they gave. The chicken was tender and nicely coated in bulgogi sauce without being overly sweet. The salad was fresh and the hot rice made for a very filling meal. To wrap it all up, the bingsu was a refreshing treat on a warm early-June afternoon. The wheat flour was nutty and the chocolate pocky sticks and wafers were nice additions. This place seemed like the most popular Asian spot in Banff. It seemed affordable and who doesn't love Korean street food? We ordered the Korean BBQ bowl (BBQ pork, egg strips, salad, dumplings, rice) and the wings. The bowl had a lot of ingredients and it was very filling. It was a bit bland though without the sauce. Omg the minute I walked in, I could instantly smell the tteokbokki. We only ordered desserts as we had plans for dinner, but their food looked divine. We got the matcha and mango bingsu + the strawberry butterfly and shine muscat ade. The bingsus were amazing. The ice is milky and fluffy. The mango puree is fresh and sweet - mix it with the shaved ice and it becomes the perfect creamy texture. My mom really loved the matcha because it was strong and bitter, just how she likes it. The flavor blends so well with the shaved ice!! The ades were carbonated and extremely refreshing with the fruit juices. Lotsss of ice though. This place was amazing and SO popular. I ordered the large spicy pork bulgogi bowl, and to start, the volume of food was great for the price. A whole lot of flavors going on in one bowl (for example, they just stack the fried dumplings in with the rest of the food). Very yummy and exactly what we wanted after a few hours on the road! The wife and I shared a Mozzarella and Sausage dog + honey butter fries. The dog was great, but I wish the cheese surrounded the meat, rather than being stacked on top of each other. It makes it harder to get all of the contents in each bite this way, but I understand it would probably be a lot harder to make the version I'm suggesting. The fries were tasty, but we admittedly didn't eat a ton of them (remember, this was dinner #2). They tasted more like garlic fries than honey butter fries, but I did notice the honey butter if I concentrated really hard. But the real winner here was the Mango Bingsoo. Bury me in this thing. It was massive. It was also $17, but you really get your money's worth on this portion. I loved every bite of it and if this place was near my house, I'd go every day and try each flavor. One of the most enjoyable casual meals in Banff! We got two hankki bowls for carry out. We had the kimchi k-bbq and the spicy chicken bowls. Both were delicious and satisfying, a nice departure from all the pizza and sandwiches we've been eating on our trip. The bowl had a good amount of meat and the dumplings were a nice addition. Its kinda like fast food style korean food. Which is nice because it's no frills and you don't need to waste any time eating before or after your hike in banff. I really loved my chicken and gyoza bowl. It was so flavourful. I tried some fries on another visit. And despite trying my hardest I just couldn't finish it. Still rocking and rolling and they've EXPANDED for double the space. The food here is almost always excellent. Fresh, flavorful, good size portions and you can customize your level of spice. I believe they scale down spice slightly for a Canadian palate but not much. For me, the extra spicy was a bit too much, got my nose runny and eyes watering, so I had to step it down to spicy. They've got sauces laid out for your spurting pleasure and it's a treat to mix and match, experimenting here and there. Highly recommend spicy mayo. Service is good, but during peak times don't expect much more than fatigued stares and silence at the counter. The folks who put the food out seem to be more passionate and helpful so good on them. Place can get jam packed and crowd control seems to be a problem. People jam up the interior and doorway and you've got to have your elbows out. Seating used to be a nightmare but with the ice cream addition it's gotten easier. There's a couple benches outside in the full sun with crowds buzzing around so not ideal, but better than nothing. Better still, hit the park next door for some shade. No bathrooms inside so the nearest are at the park across the street. Peak times find the ladies room with a line out the door and in either situation god help you if you have to drop a #2, you'll be standing outside the stalls like a chump letting every pinch-faced fellow suffered know to back off, you got next ;) read more

It is one of the affordable places in the area. I ordered 4 CUPBOBs and paid CAD$49.88 (US$37.03). Since my sister and I are new to this food, we have to think and order fast as people are lining up behind us. The CUPBOB I ordered hit the spot. It was filling and just enough. The CUPBOB usually comes with your choice of protein, salad, slices of scrambled egg and rice. I definitely recommend this place and would love to try the gazillion items on the menu. read more

I wasn't expecting much when I saw this in Banff Town, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is like a chicken bowl like spot but with korean food. You choose a bowl with the type of chicken flavor you want. The bowl comes with dumplings, rice, and some other things. Overall, it was really good. The fries, though, was the star of the show for me. It reminded me of Potatoe Corner, except you get to put the seasoning on yourself. The cheese and butter that was available for seasoning was outstanding! The fries didn't taste that fresh, but the seasoning made up for it. The seating area is small, so get here before it gets packed. It has a doorway to the dessert side of this spot, which has ice cream and bingsoo. Came here on a Sunday for dinner after an afternoon walking around the Banff town. Hankki is one of our favourites and on this day it did not disappoint.
