We had a late dinner here last night. The food was very good as was the service. The only thing that bothered me is the floor was Very, very dirty. I realize it was the end of the day, but was surprised it was let to get so dirty and not mopped up some during the day. However, when we were getting ready to leave, a small situation happened that rubbed me the wrong way, and for that, I will not give 5 stars. As we were paying, an older couple, probably late 80's walked in. The husband was walking very slowly and carrying what appeared to be a travel oxygen tank. It wasn't busy at all, they walked past the sign that said wait to be seated and headed right to a table. A young girl from behind the counter decided to let them know that on Sundays they have to wait at that sign and are not allowed to seat themselves. The couple seemed slightly confused but I think the wife may have apologized. It was a fuss that didn't need to be done at all, let alone in front of everyone in the restaurant. There were maybe only 4 tables with people. I think the girl needed to just let it go and not open her mouth about it. I might have been the only one, but I thought it was wrong. Overall: The interior of Peak City is very cool, but the food left a lot to be desired. Food: I got a mushroom omelette with a side of white bread and hashbrowns. Overall the taste was very plain, not a lot of seasoning. The omelette itself was done well, but the taste just wasn't there for me. Service: The service here is pretty fast. We came for brunch and were able to get seated easily and food came quickly. Ambiance: This is a casual sit-down place. There is a decent amount of seating indoors. Very cool decorations around the place and a juke box in the middle of the restaurant. You can watch the cooks behind the counter make your food. read more

We had breakfast here on a recent Saturday morning. We immediately loved the retro/mid-century vibe, with lots of photos of Apex in times past. We were seated quickly, and the hostess brought us water and hot tea, at our request. I love a western omelette, but they didn't offer one, so I chose the custom omelette, and I requested city ham (similar to Canadian bacon), onions, and green peppers. My sides, home fries and whole wheat toast, were perfect. I also ordered Earl Grey tea, and our server brought me more hot water, without my asking! My friend enjoyed his Wolfpacker, with hash browns and rye toast. The restaurant is on West Williams Street, near downtown Apex, and there was plenty of parking. Peak City Diner is a cute spot that feels like you've traveled back to an old school diner. Service was great but the food was not so great. My toast did not taste like bread (it was chewy like gum and did not breakdown while I was chewing it), and my omelette made me feel a bit sick. I ordered the turkey omelette - unfortunately, I was unable to finish my meal. The hashbrowns and my coffee were the best parts of the meal. My partner ordered the garden fresh omelette which was primarily cheese with barely any of the other ingredients mentioned. Maybe we came on an off day, I'm not sure. Came in on Mothers Day at around 12:15 pm - only one table available. We were seated and immediately requested and received waters for the table. Perused the extensive menu, which appears to be identical to Shiny Diner. I got the chef salad and the two folks with me got the blue plate special and the french toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. Here's the rundown: Chef salad ($12.99) - nice portion of salad, with fresh lettuce, cucumber, cheese, turkey, ham and bacon. Comes with two small portions of dressing of your choice. The salad was very good and filling. Everything seemed fresh. Blue plate special - the menu offers this special of an entree from the blue plate portion of the menu, two sides and a drink for $13.99. My partner got the tuna salad on a bed of lettuce and sliced tomato. For sides, they selected the Cole slaw and applesauce. The tuna had relish in it and was not overly mayonnaise-y. The Cole slaw also did not have too much mayo, which was good. My partner was pleased with the entree, although wasn't a big fan of the relish in the tuna fish dressing. The French toast, eggs and bacon ($12.99) were well received. Large portion that my partner could not finish. Service was good and friendly. Although the place was busy, we were well taken care of. Restaurant has a 50's vibe with 50's - 60's music playing a bit too loud from the speakers. A bit hard to have conversation. read more

Stopped here for the first time for breakfast. Located off E Williams in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking. No light at the street where you turn, so getting in and out is not easy. There was an accident right in the intersection when I left. The menu is the same as the Shiny Diner. Lots of breakfast choices and many lunch snd dinner options. The atmosphere is like an old time diner and there are plenty of tables and booths. I was seated quickly and the waitress came over right away. Very nice young lady but she didn't check on me until I was finished. Everything I had was undercooked. Eggs, bacon was floppy, potatoes not done enough...even the toast could have been better. Grabbed dinner for the family from here tonight and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly upon walking in the door and helpful thru the entire ordering process. The portions for the hamburger steak meal were huge and vegetables choices spot on. I also got a grilled chicken salad and footlong hotdog. All the food was great diner food. The house made chips were a huge hit with everyone. Will definitely try more things from here as the menu is huge with lots of interesting choices. They definitely deserve a 5 star rating for the type of food they serve, but don't expect a high end 5 star restaurant. read more

Same owners of the shiny diner so I thought the food would be on par, I was wrong. Incredibly sub par food- I can make better pancakes at home, and the thing I love about diner pancakes is the flavor from the grill seeping in, which these lacked. I've been a few times and every time the servers seem stressed and unsure. The layout is also a bit funky with too many tables right by the entrance and no real place for someone waiting to wait. Went on a holiday MLK Jan 20th 2025. Right off the bat the place was WELL lit and very cheery diner decor! The hosts Christina were great. It being a nice sunny Sunday morning 9 am. My first visit started on a very nice note. Being a vegetarian ordered the Spinach Mushroom Omlette. Was done very well. The Coffee brew was just right. Had it black. I've dined in here with my mom twice now and have had good experiences. We have tried the pot roast with carrots, celery & potatoes, chicken fried steak with gravy, oven-roasted turkey breast with stuffing and grandma lillie mae's 4 veggie plate. The blue plate specials come with two sides and a piece of texas toast or a roll. A few of my favorite sides are the mashed potatoes with gravy, apple sauce and black-eyed peas. I was disappointed that they have been out of the mama's homemade meatloaf but I'm hoping to try it in a future visit. I am not big on breakfast but they have a lot of options for that. The 2nd is it, out of cream of broccoli soup even though in front menu, out of bananas for the banana split and out of peanut butter for the milkshake. What a wonderful addition to Apex! Have been waiting for this to open for a while & it didn't disappoint. The decor didn't change too much from the old Hwy 55 setup. It still had that old-fashioned 1950's burger shop vibe but it was updated with a classic juke box & a bakery case with delicious cakes. Finally we have a place in Apex with Blue Plate Specials and breakfast all day! Food was very good. It was classic diner fare...not fussy and simple delish! Service was excellent and attentive. Oh, & get the cakes & pie. They're locally made and not overly sweet. Didn't get pics since we ate it too quickly. Highly recommend the coconut cake & the pig picking' cake. We've been in NC for 16 years & have yet to find a good diner. They just don't exist here in Raleigh like traditional diners up north. So we were looking forward to helping Peak City diner that just opened in Apex in the old Hwy 55 burger location next to J&S pizza & Dunkin Donuts. We knew that the owners also owned Shiny Diner in Cary. The place was busy. We got in just in time before a short wait started for those just walking in. We received our menus and drinks right away (3 waters & a soda). While waiting for food I noticed the floor was pretty dirty and like another review mentioned it wasn't just from the day. It looked like it really needed a good cleaning. We ordered the following: chicken tenders with fries, oven roasted turkey with fries & mac and cheese, Chicken melt with fries and a rib eye sandwich with chips. We were not impressed with the food. The turkey was dry, the tenders looked like frozen Tyson tenders & the rib eye was thin & fatty. The fries were just OK. The chicken melt was enjoyable. The chips were good, but weren't hot. They're more like ribbon fries. We likely won't be back. It was about $65 for 4 people. Maybe other menu items are better. read more

Another great addition to Apex. We needed a great spot for breakfast that is locally owned and operated vs the local chains. The restaurant just opened. Clean, bright and extremely friendly staff. A bit on the small side, so expect to wait. The food was good - aligns with other traditional diner food. The menu is extensive with all the diner favorites. Breakfast, lunch, sandwiches, blue plate specials - you name it. Cooks times were a bit long, but I think it's still finding their groove (or use another body in the kitchen). I sat at the counter and the kitchen staff is working as hard as they can. Was a bit disappointed to see the waitstaff being a bit rude to the kitchen staff. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked great and hefty portions. Can't wait to try more items on the menu. A decent spot to visit if you're looking for local diner type food. read more

The main reason I'm giving Peak City Diner in Apex, NC only 2 stars is due to the atrocious action of my table's waitress; Jackie. This was my first time... along with my family's time dining at the restaurant. This review may be extensive, but the intention is to thoroughly provide details regarding the experience. I want to also highlight the sheer entitlement of Jackie and her rude disposition towards the end of my dining experience. To start off, I want to highlight an undeniable truth - the food was delicious (two adult hotdog plates with fries/tater tots, a children's chocolate chip pancake with eggs and bacon, a children's chicken tenders and fries, and an adult waffle with bacon and eggs). The cooks did an excellent job (fresh, hot food with flavor), and my family was genuinely impressed. As it was time to pay the bill, I chose to pay the bill and to cover the tip. I did not have to provide this option (tip), but I was willing to do that as she was our waitress. As I added my tip and provided the receipt back to her - she looked at it and said... "$5.00, that is not even 10%". I was baffled as I did not even have to provide a tip to her, but chose to do so for the expected (or close to) services that she provided. She goes on to address that she did not even charge me the usual gratuity fee that she charges for a party of 5. I did not make her conduct that action, nor did we ever discuss that policy. Furthermore... there were ONLY 3 adults and 2 children. I politely made her aware that her action was completely disrespectful and she rudely addressed that she was not trying to make me feel bad (about my decision) but that she had 2 children and was single, and so forth. There were no extra or exceptional actions conducted by Jackie. - She wiped down an extra seat that we needed due to it being dirty, which was appreciated. - She never gave refills (when necessary)... only when we inquired about a beverage chance. - She had to be reminded about our beverage change request. - She never removed items off of our table, even when she addressed that the space was getting limited on the table. - A family member removed trash from the table to throw away in the nearest trash can... for table cleanliness and so that the she did not have to do it. - We made sure that the table was tidy (stacking plates, compiling trash into one area, setting utensils together and more) as possible before getting up from the table. - Our table was shorter than 10 steps away from the kitchen- mind you it was an old fashioned-like diner. Thorough Back-Story Details.... The waitress (whose name has been shared above and confirmed on my receipt) conducted not all, but a majority of her job responsibilities and no actions beyond that. My table consisted of 3 adults and 2 children. Her co-waiter (who took our beverage order) brought us our drinks. The main waitress (Jackie) provided us our menus, brought us our meals, and provided coloring books (of which the coloring books' purpose were to remain at the restaurant, but to allow the desired page of our children's choice to be taken out and kept by our children... which was sweet). As space on the table became a bit limited, Jackie addressed that aspect when she started to hand us our food, but did not remove any extra plates/trash. We did not say anything and ate without complaint. As a drink replacement was desired, we requested for one drink change (from sweet tea to Pepsi) ONLY for one family member. Jackie addressed that she would provide the swap and give another family member a drink refill. She ended up placing one beverage on the table, and upon waiting for the other drink... we had to re-inquire about the other beverage. Towards the end, she asked if we wanted to-go cups and we said "yes". She gave us empty cups of which we had to pour the remainder of our beverages in opposed to receiving to-go cups with new beverages. We did not complain and ONLY asked if we could at least get a new beverage for one family member who had nothing left of her beverage. At the end, we purchased 2 slices of cake and awaited an updated check (to include the cake slices). I inquired with her about speaking to the manager and she addressed that they did not have one. Again, the food was delicious and if I could tip the cooks I would have loved to do so. But, Jackie's role unfortunately placed a large damper on the overall experience. To whomever the manager may be, if you are reading this - please note that your waitress's reflect the company and overall customer experience. read more

I met a friend at Peak City Diner for brunch on Sunday morning. It was my first time eating there and the place has a old-timey diner vibe. My friend arrived early and was able to get us a table. It was a good thing she did, because when I arrived at 11am the line to even check-in for a table was long and the place was very busy. It took the waitress about 10 min or so to come over and ask me if I wanted coffee or anything to drink. She was apologetic, but I totally understood given how busy it was. The waitress actually ended up bringing us a pitcher of coffee so we didn't have to keep flagging her down for refills. I ordered the eggs benedict with ham and a side of home fries. The food did take some time to come out (again, I understood b/c of how busy it was). The eggs benedict was OK, but not great. Everything was very salty. Finally a new place to eat in Apex. I've avoided the Shiny Diner in Cary because the food was inedible with the lowest quality beef and foods. I was hoping this would be better. The menu is a phone book with dozens of options, but just like all the other reviews, many of the dishes are either too salty (turkey and dressing) or no salt/seasoning (vegetable sides -- limas & carrots). We want the food to be good. It's an easy fix, but do they care? The sweeteners on the table are lower cost, knockoffs for Splenda and Sweet & Low. Not sure if the maple syrup is real (doubt it) and is maple flavored high-fructose corn syrup. The pig pickin cake slice was incredible. Will try again. read more

The food is great! It's the service that is so bad! When I first started coming here, there was an amazing server named Randi. She did great. The last few times she hasn't been there, and nobody taught the ones who are left good customer service! Tonight, for example, one server got busy. The other just leaned on the front counter and talked to her friend the whole time, instead of making a circle to see if anyone needed anything. Let me start by saying that when we knew a new diner was opening, we were excited to have something new in town as it's needed. So when they finally opened, we were looking forward to going. We visited on day 10 (as the waitress stated to customers next to us). Needless to say, when we stepped into the doors, I was shocked at the lack of cleanliness for a new diner. Immediate impression were the floors which were filthy. I don't mean the sort of "day crumbs" but the sort of filth that has been there for years. The place should have had gleaming CLEAN floors, not dried food/sauce on top of other dried up food/sauce. My instinct then was to leave but unfortunately, we stayed and tried it out as the food on the website looked pretty good. The service was okay, the place was not crowded. Let's get straight to the food, shall we? The chicken fingers (tenders) look NOTHING like the website pic. They looked like frozen chicken cutlets from a Tyson bag and thrown in the fryer. Couldn't eat it. I tried. The burgers came out PIPING hot (steam from the buns) so obviously they microwaved the buns. One of our party could only get down half of it. Their "chips"? Not as desribed. We were served soggy potatos (their chips) nothing crispy about them. The waitress even said she's told the owner there's been an issue and they have been coming out soggy yet they continue to serve them. Why keep serving poor quality product?? Paid extra for fries on one of the orders as a sub for the "chips" and honestly, the fries weren't even that great. They weren't crisp and had a sogginess about them, as though they weren't cooked long enough. The ketchup tastes like the cheapest ketchup you'll find on the market. Just horrible tasting. The bacon tasted as though it had been cooked in old grease. The place was filthy. The floors were so nasty they didn't look like they have been mopped since the last place closed down (referenced above). The area by the bathroom had garbage piled up. The dispenser in the mens bathroom wasn't working. And this place just opened? We should have known when we walked in and saw how filthy the floor was, to leave. And I'm not talking, dirty from rain...we're talking the sort of dirt that's been there a while! The food is WAY overpriced. We left absolutely hungry cause we couldn't eat half or more of what we were given it was so bad. I have never left a restaurant hungry. EVER. So we finally get a new place in town and our experience was unfortunate. Why would we spend more money to give it "another chance"? I'm hopeful they make changes quickly and turn things around, People are NOT going to continue spending $$ on poor quality food when they can go somewhere else. I did speak with the owner and spoke of all the above. He admitted that the pictures on their website are stock pictures and not pictures of their food which explains why their chicken "tenders" don't look anything like the picture. You can't call what they serve "tenders". He stated he would take them down but I see after a few weeks, he still hasn't made any changes to improve. This place appears to truly be poor quality with maxed out prices. Do yourself a favor and use that money on an establishment where you'll walk out happy and full. Won't be going back. read more
