Last May, three days before embarking on an international trip, I woke up thinking, I can't go with this pain. I recalled that Peak Performance had helped my husband with shoulder and back pain more than ten years previously, so I called them as soon as they opened. About two hours later, I was at Peak Performance for testing, diagnosis, therapy and a treatment plan. That was a Tuesday, and I was able to have another therapy session with Dr. Katz on Thursday before leaving on Friday. I learned that my groin pain was a result of arthritis in my back. With these two intense sessions, I was able to keep up with my fellow travelers the entire trip. Upon returning, I had regular sessions with Dr. Katz who gave me exercises to do on a daily basis. I was considering my back to be completely healed, when I started having numbness and tingling in my hands which I shared with Dr. Katz. I can't explain how much I received help from Dr. A and his team. I talked with people who travel from Indiana and other far away destinations just for Dr. A so he can adjust them in a proper and more traditional way which is hard to find in Chicago-land area. I suffered from lower back pain for a long time and received excellent treatment at this place where Dr. A found and connected a problem I had in my cervical 5th disc which caused a lot of trouble for neck AND back pain. Dr. Arculeo and his staff are amazing! I can't thank them enough for helping me with back and neck pain. I still have a long way to go but in one short month, I've made great progress. Dr. Arculeo definitely knows what he is doing. I complained of knee pain and he fixed it in one visit. I complained of upper inner thigh pain and it was improved after one visit. My neck is still being adjusted but I have far better range of motion now than I did before. His office staff is friendly, accommodating, and makes you feel like family. I was running late for an appointment and Eric called to see if I was on my way. I forgot to see Syed regarding an answer before I left and he called to follow up. This place is not your average Chiro. They don't use traditional manual manipulation of the spine, but rather some weird, new age machine that kind of seems like a crock. Appointements are loooooong and include a mandatory "physical therapy" session that seems kind of like a waste of time (exercise are easy and could be done at home). To be honest, I have heard it worked well for people, but unless you have A LOT of time to give out- don't bother. They MAKE you prepay for these huge packages, including three sessions per week for the first month and a half, and then moving to two for the next couple months. This might all be better if their hours weren't so limited, but I had to take off from my 9 to 5 job EVERY appointment (and I mean EVERY). Peak Performance Chiropractors came up in a conversation recently. My experience goes back a few years, but I decided to review here. My husband was treated for a bulging disc and knee injections. Once you get past the hard sell of everything under the sun, the treatments went well. My husband mentioned his chiropractor treatments to his doctor, the doctor was very supportive and told him to continue if it is working for him. I tried to mention to Dr. A the support from the doctor and he must have got on the defense immediately and didn't really hear what I was saying. He berated me in front of the people in the waiting room for something that HE misunderstood. My immediate thought was that he is a pompous ass and we were soon done with him and his practice. I have had major issues with my back for about 15 years. In the past 3 years, I have experienced numbness in my left arm and hand. The numbness comes and goes for the most part, but I haven't felt my left pinky in about 2 years. I have gone to countless doctors and chiropractors, and even to Northwestern's "best" neurologist. The result? I have not had so much as one symptom relieved. I went to Peak Performance for a free consultation, and immediately loved the place. I didn't feel like I was being sold simply to make a profit. When I came in for my follow up visit after getting my x-rays, I, for the very first time, got some answers in regards to what was causing my problems. I cannot express enough how refreshing it is to go somewhere seeking treatment and find that their goal is not to just relieve your symptoms that will recur and have you keep coming back, but instead pinpoint the problem, find the solution, and then strengthen your body to keep you symptom free in the future. They went over my x-rays with me in more depth than ANYONE has previously, and explained what parts of my central nervous system were being affected by the defects in my spine. They put me on a payment plan that worked for my EXTREMELY little budget (my HMO sucks), and were able to work around my hectic work schedule. Thus far - And keep in mind I'm still in the beginning of my treatment - I have been extremely impressed with not only the treatment I am receiving to help alleviate the symptoms that brought me there in the first place, but also with the number of issues I have that I always thought were unrelated that are being addressed. The entire staff is friendly, helpful, and most importantly, knowledgeable. I am, for the first time, optimistic for recovery and excited to not be in pain every day of my life. Again, I am early on in the treatment, so I will most definitely update this as time goes by, but for now I could not be more pleased to have found this place. I would highly recommend them, and honestly don't foresee that changing as time goes on. I have been seeing the folks at Peak Performance since 2003, when I attended a Shamrock Shuffle expo and one of the doctors was giving demos. Since then, I have learned unique techniques to conquer my cervical spine straightening and I've also been the lucky recipient of the Proadjuster, which is an electronic chiropractic device that assesses the spine and adjusts precisely. If the back needs a little more pressure, Dr. A is an expert at assessing this because he knows his patients so well, and can more personally tailor the adjustment to the patient's needs. The staff has been remarkably helpful over the years- friendly and caring, and understanding of my many late appointment times. So accommodating although I know I'm not the ideal patient in that way. I couldn't be happier with my continued experience here and have recommended them over the years a dozen times to family and friends. I had a very poor experience with Peak. They up sell you into a long and expensive program. I had around 30 adjustments and 15 therapy session and never had an ounce of relief. I was advised by many people outside of Peak to look into an injection and continue with my adjustments and therapy. Peak was against the injection and highly discouraged it. The days i received my injection was like my life was giving back to me. I had an 70% reduction in the pain, was able to remove my back brace and function in life. Its been two years since and my back is till in good shape from the injection. Peak does not listen to you. They have their methods and only care about about placing you into a long and expensive program as opposed to doing what is right for your body and your needs. I spoke with at least a half dozen other Chiropractors that told me it was crazy for them to push more adjustments when I had seen zero relief from around 30. I was going to keep this all to myself until I had a recent encounter with a Peak employee named Katie. I ran into this woman at a Street Festival in Chicago, said hello and told her I was not happy with my treatment and believed they were solely about the up sell and are not about what's best for my body. She responded by saying "well I think your're a douchebag." I wasted thousands of dollars, months of my life and in the end was disrespected. I would not suggest this business at any cost. read more

Overall I was not satisfied with the service I received from Peak Performance. I also didn't like their "package" services approach. When I explained my particular needs, they made me feel like I wasn't explaining myself clearly. This went on for a few visits. It was really frustrating. I told them I needed a different type of brace but they resisted and wouldn't budge. Even when I was asked to bring in information about the brace , it was just dismissed! Making me feel like a fool. Instead they wanted me to use a very basic brace the kind you can buy at Walgreens. Considering the high cost of the "package" services, i.e., shots in my knee, chiropractor adjustments, etc. the cost of the brace seem inflated. Plus had I known that they required full payment up front, I certainly would have went elsewhere. Didn't have a good experience at all. Not recommend. read more

Dr. Arculeo came to my place of business and gave a presentation about "work place ergonmics". Honestly, I thought the presentation was a bit laughable and obvious (i.e. showing 2 photos of women sitting at their desks--one perfectly straight and the other hunched over and talking on the phone with her head tilted--and the Doc asking "Which one do you think has pain?". Really???) I should have gone with my gut instinct, but they were offering us all a free consultation. I was having issues I was currently being treated for by another doctor, so I thought a 2nd opinion would be a good idea. When I went for my initial consultation, I was informed that his facility was not in network with my insurance carrier. With that information offered before I even sat down with the doctor, it was set in my mind that I was not going to begin treatment at all. No amount of discussion could convince me. I have health insurance that I contribute to, and my choice is always to go to in network providers. After we met and the doctor offered getting further evaluated with the inclusion of x-rays, I decided to have the x-rays done that day since it had been a while since I last had x-rays, and I was curious to know what his opinion was. I did agree to pay that day for the xrays. The doctor personally asked me to schedule a follow-up appointment to review the results of the x-rays and discuss the treatment that he and the team would be planning for me, and he said that the follow-up appt would be no charge. When I went to the desk to make that appointment, I was again told it was no charge. I scheduled the appointment for the following Thursday. The next day, I called and spoke to a young woman, named Kelene, and asked if I decided not to begin treatment, would I be able to have the x-rays. Her response was that due to HIPPA regulations, the x-rays were the property of the office, and that I could sign them out for up to 30 days or have digital scans emailed to me, but I wasn't allowed to have them. I called on July 14th because I needed to re-schedule my appt. The young lady who answered said, "We just got out of a meeting discussing your case, and I was actually going to call you to see if you could come back on Monday, July 18th at 6:00.", to which I agreed. When I arrived for that scheduled appointment, I was led into an area where there were other patients waiting, where the doctor was going to give a "group discussion". It was never mentioned by the doctor or the young lady I spoke to that the next visit would be a group session. Had I been told that at any point, I would have questioned and flatly declined it at that time. My reaction was explosive and I refused to go into the meeting. The young lady sat me back in the waiting room, and the doctor came to speak with me. I told him how unhappy I was that this wasn't made clear, and I was there to follow up with my findings with him one on one. He kept trying to tell me that I had "serious physical issues" that we had to take care of. I told him I was not going to sit in the meeting, and he said to make an appointment to see him privately, which I did. And 2 days later, I emailed him to cancel and demand my x-rays (which I did receive). I liken all of the experiences I had at Peak Performance with that of being presented with purchasing a time share: come see what we have to offer and we'll make it so attractive that we'll sell you on it. I think my phone call asking about possession of the x-rays effected this further: My suspicion is that my inquiry made its way to the doctor, especially that I mentioned potentially not beginning treatment, and it was then decided that I should be invited to the group session--perhaps to tip the scales a bit to convince me that I "needed" treatment...? At least, this is how it has all be perceived by me. I didn't come seeking a sales pitch. I went seeking another medical opinion of my specific case. read more

Dr. A is fantastic!! I've had back and neck issues due to playing college and professional lacrosse and he's changed my every day life. It wasn't until I went to Peak Performance that I realized I didn't need to deal with back pain on a regular basis. I'm not sure why no one is talking about their cleanse, but I am. It is awesome! This is the first cleanse I have done where you drink 2 shakes a day and a HUGE salad for lunch and I have not been hungry at all! The shake is awesome! At first this place seems like a nice place with good energy and a friendly staff, but as you find out it is anything put that. First at your "consultation" which is a series of questions designed to shame and guilt you into thinking that you are broken, defective, and abnormal, then an "complete examination" again designed to make you believe that you are broken, defective, and abnormal. That is only the first visit. Visit two I was told in fact that I am defective and am in need of "additional testing" and would be given my first treatment. They said at this point they are unable to tell me how much it would cost, how long it would take. They seemed very untruthful, like they were hiding something. So I go more "patient education" again designed to shame and guilt you because I was broken and defective. Third visit and still no answers only another treatment and more "patient education" again I was broken and needed to be sold on chiropractic. Unlike the other times this time I was told that I needed to bring 'anyone that had power or control" over my finances and schedule to come along for the report of findings where I would finally get my answers to how long it would take and cost and to finally find out how broken and defective I was and what it would take for them to fix me once and for all. Visit 4, again more shame and guilt tactics. We reviewed the initial consultation, went over how broken defective and abnormal I was and how bad my case was. They tried to make me pay up front and to schedule out my appointments for 3 times a week for 7 weeks and then 2 times per week for 7 weeks and then 1 time a weeks for 7 more weeks and then one time a month for 6 months for "maintainance". I was also told had I to attend a mandatory "pressure point workshop" and I had to bring a friend. At the so called report of findings I found out that the reason I had to bring someone with me was so that they would not be negative about the office and chiropractic and also to get them onto a program. The whole process was designed to make me feel ashamed and guilty and defective and broken and they whole process was a sales job not a health care job at all. After doing some research about this place and the owner, Steven Arculeo. I found out that he is an "SCIENTOLOGIST" and that the staff is trained and scripted on all aspects of the place and they are trained on what to say and how to act. PLEASE STAY VERY FAR AWAY. The problem was that I went in without specific ailments, but they found some anyway. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Had one adjustment, and 2 days later my back went out with a hernia. Could have been the adjustment, could have been other things, but overall I felt like they were stretching to find ways to sign me up to come back. When I went there I felt like a car going thru an assemly line. The practice definitely had the mentality of getting as many people in and out in the quickest amount of time. They will try to get you to sign a contract and put you on a very time consuming schedule. I also felt that the physical therapy was a huge waste of time... The last time I went for a treatment I got injured so badly that I had to see a specialist, receive a muscle relaxer, anti-inflammatory and pain meds. It took months before my neck had healed enough to turn left and right. I went once after the injury to try to get help and explained the situation. They did some type of therapy, which did not work, and they never called me again. I had been going there 3 days a week for months and came in so injured that I couldn't move my head from a treatment that I received there and they don't even call to follow up? It's scary. I want to tell you that Dr. Arculeo and his staff are caring people who help others get relief from their chronic pain and the consequences of living in pain. I have been told by a MD. that I have fibromyalgia and for years I have refused to take pain killers.I never consider chiropracty an alternative I was led to it by a best friend and its helping me. There has been a big improvment in my range of motion, a symptom I used to have on my right foot is gone and my sleep has never been this profound since I had my son years ago.
