The first time we saw Dr. Cox was for my then 4 year old daughter. My daughter had suddenly begun limping and complaining that her leg hurt. We took her to her pediatrician who ordered x rays but ultimately didn't find anything wrong. Very frustrating. A friend of mine had recommended Dr Cox so we decided to give her a shot. Dr Cox was so friendly and so patient with my very resistant, uncooperative child. WOW!! POSTURE IMPROVEMENT! I came to Dr. Knox and Team after deciding to finally fix my posture in my early 20s mid-COVID. With impressive cleaning guidelines, social distancing, and hand washing station, the team made me feel safe. Coming to Dr. Knox, I had really poor back flexibility, a curve in my spine (not the good kind), and forward tilting shoulders from "hunching." From computer work to every day life, standing with proper posture required a little bit of extra effort! I'm young, healthy, and super fit, but my posture was always a problem. Dr. Knox and the Proper Balance Healthcare staff CHANGED MY LIFE! I came to Dr. Knox in early September after seeking treatment else where that just wasn't working. I had been experiencing pain in my neck and back at 10+ levels most of the summer. After taking X-rays, I was surprised to learn that I had scoliosis and a reverse curvature in neck. Looking at the x-rays of my neck and back next to x-rays of what they should look like was beyond scary. Dr. Knox was right there with me, even through the tears, to reassure me that things would get better. She laid out a wellness plan for me which included other things then just the traditional adjustments, i.e. shockwave, trigger point injections and physical therapy. Being very scared and uncomfortable of manual adjustments, the pulstar machine Dr. Knox uses on me is perfect, a machine that aligns without cracking or popping. At the beginning of all this I was in agony, and crying from pain most days. I can now say that is a thing of the past and I owe it all to Dr. Knox and her team! This review is specific to the unprofessional and possibly dangerous botox services offered at this location. I also received physical therapy here and found that to be quite professional and worthwhile, but beware the botox. To preface, i was a 30 year old with a line across my forehead looking for first time botox (aka, i was not knowledgeable). I bought a groupon for 20 units of botox from this location. To clarify again: this is not a deep wrinkle. This is a line caused by sun damage when i was younger and weight loss. Like, i know its there, and i wanted to keep it from getting worse. This isnt the grand canyon. Upon arrival and consultation, the nurse upsold me another 10 units, telling me i absolutely needed them for any effect. I was clueless, so i paid between $150 and $175 for the additional units, effectively more than doubling what I had spent. Guess you gotta get your profits somewhere? She then proceeded to inject 30 units of botox into just my forehead. Well. My line was gone. But my eyelids drooped. My forehead was literally numb for over a month. If i tried to move it, it tingled. I had absolutely no facial movement or expressions because she pumped what was effectively over two and a half times as much botox as i needed into my forehead. I thought these things were normal and that botox just wasnt for me. I went for consultations with three other dermatologists since then and have received 3 treatments. Every doctor agreed that i should receive no more than 12 units in my forehead and that 30 was insanely unnecessary. Also, 20 units of botox on mag mile is $195, so I'm not sure how my extra 10 cost me so much other than a ploy to get more money out of someone naive to the process. I have had no drooping of eyelids or prolonged numbness in my forehead and i can still emote, since my face isnt frozen in search of profit margins. In closing. The physical therapy offered here worked for me. I did not do the portion that wasnt covered by insurance that involved needles because it was done by the same person who administered my botox, so there was a bit of a trust issue there...didnt really want someone messing with my spine after i realized how screwed up the botox was. But the rest, the exercises, massage, and adjustments, are worth it. Just...botox with caution. Unless you legit need 30 to 40 units. Then this is probably your place. read more

I made an appointment for PRP/ Vampire Facial and I must say it's only been a couple days and I love it already! Nurse Carol who did the procedure was very professional and very good at explaining on what to expect during and after the procedure. Very close to Marina City on Wells, I was not expecting a massage place here. I needed a fix on my back and saw that they offered massages. I called them for an appointment and the only thing I did not like was the 24 hour prior to appointment cancellation fee of $25 other than that I enjoyed my time with them. I arrived 15 minutes to sign a few documents with the receptionist (which was rude) she was strict on having me sign all parts of the insurance agreement even though I did not use insurance on my massage. I recently had a terrible muscle spasm due to having issues with my hips being tilted because one leg is slightly longer than the other. This happened before about 3 years ago and I was literally on the ground for 2 weeks not able to move from the tight muscular tension in that area. Recently it happened again and I was in so much pain that I wanted to go to the ER but I came here instead and I was able to get trigger point needling to relieve my muscle spasm and an adjustment to help decompress my discs. Dr. Knox and the rest of the team truly helped me. I have had chronic migraines and reoccurring lower back pain for the past 8 years, so I have had experience with chiropractic care before coming to Dr. Knox. She truly got to the root of my ailments and used a combination of chiropractic adjustment, physical therapy, and some new therapies such as Shockwave and needlepoint injections (similar to acupuncture) to help with my pain and to help my body return to better functionality. I am genuinely amazed at how much I improved with their help. I was very thoughtfully given a gift certificate for a 60 minute massage at Proper Balance Healthcare; to try and accomplish the goal of de-stressing me. Most people would opt for the relaxing Swedish, but not me. I have knots in my back that taunt me on a daily basis...and I want them out of there. I scheduled an appointment and since I didn't have anyone specific to request, they paired me with Stephanie. I should send the receptionist a thank you note, because it was great. You can tell that Stephanie is a pro and knows exactly what she is doing, she even nicknamed one of my knots "The Headache Monster". Now, I still had knots in my back...but it would take a miracle worker (not a professional massage therapist) to get those out in an hour. Although I was expecting the massage to be mostly painful it ended up being mostly relaxing and I walked out of there feeling like a subdued version of myself (equivalent to me after a glass of red wine). The best part? The 5 minute head massage...it was incredible. I am tempted to make another appointment just for a full 60 minute repeat of that. Keep in mind that this place is NOT a spa. It does not look or feel like a spa...and that is not their goal; it feels like a nice West Loop chiropractor. When I first came into Proper Balance, my back was really tight, I leaned towards my right side and was putting almost 12lbs more weight on my right leg and had a tough time sleeping. Years of distance running, sitting on airplanes and in front of computers really took a toll on my body. Dr. Knox (formerly Dr. Creevy), performed some tests to show me where I was out of alignment and developed a plan to help fix my problems and prevent future issues. Now my weight is more evenly balanced, my back has more flexibility, and I sleep throughout the night without waking as much from back pain! My health improvement is directly related to the amazing team at Proper Balance. Dr. Knox, Steve and her staff do an amazing job at listening to what is hurting you and focuses on reducing the pain (without the use of medicine) as quickly as possible while showing you how to prevent it long-term. The combination of Physical Therapy/exercises, the manual alignment (AKA massage!) and the normal alignment (when your bones crack and you feel this amazing sense of relief) and the periodic tests to measure your improvement have a high impact on the rate of your health improvement. I will cut out cable TV and a few nights out to dinner before I stop going to Proper Balance, that is how beneficial they have been to my health. I am very skeptical of chiropractors from time working at a major insurance company many years ago so I came in with less than an open mind. What I like about this place is that they utilize massage therapy, traditional PT exercise / training / ultrasound, and chiropractic care. I've hurt my back a few times in the past and my doctors always just gave me pain relievers or muscle relaxers, but the problem just kept coming back. I was very skeptical of chiropractors but after a friend convinced me to go to for a consult I looked on Yelp for a suggestion. I found Proper Balance and made an appointment. They got me in right away and gave me a full assessment within 24 hours. Because I was in so much pain they were able to get me in multiple times over the next two weeks until the pain had subsided and started me working on a regular PT exercise schedule immediately. I have been going for about two months now and have no pain at all. My core is much stronger than it ever has been and they keep giving me tougher exercises to do so I am constantly being challenged. I just go in for a minor adjustment every week or so and some PT. Soon it will be a monthly visit or calling them if I need to come in. As everyone else on Yelp writes, the best part about Proper Balance is the people. They obviously go out of their way to hire nice people who really care. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun and their brand new office across the street from the old one is spotless and beautiful. It is also easy to get appointments that fit your schedule. The other thing I love is that they do not overbook! When you get there for your appointment you either go straight in for massage therapy or start on your PT. I am always there an hour at the most compared to most doctors' offices where you sit for 45 minutes past your appointment in order to see someone for five minutes. I have spent about a year now as a patient of Dr. Knox, working through my chronic lower back pain. The evaluation she provided after my first visit really gave me the insight and understanding other doctors did not. She spent a good deal of time ensuring I knew what my degenerative disc disease meant. She was motivated and convinced she could help strengthen me in place of recommending back surgery like so many others jump to do. I knew the minute she said, "80% of your disc is gone and there is no fixing that but what we will do here is focus on getting that 20% strong enough to make this condition a great deal less painful and tolerable", that she was exactly the Chiropractor for me. Her program, advice and adjustments have really improved my condition which previously, with other Chiropractors had not subsided at all. And it's through her treatment I got a real education on balance and all that it means to back conditioning and strengthening. The kind of service and personal attention she provides is hard to come by and I'm big on great customer service. To give an example, there was once a Friday I was still at her office after which she had closed and a patient of hers arrived when the doors were locked. It seems he needed some sort of letter for his job and she took the time to let him in, write and sign this letter, instead of turning him down. This spoke volumes to me! I just had a 60-min swedish massage here a couple of days ago, using my youswoop. The space is pretty big, they have a area for physical therapy right by the front door, and then individual rooms I assume for massages and adjustments. At first I thought this place might not have the massage ambiance I'm used to at a spa, I was wrong, the small room that I had my massage was cozy and quiet. Now onto the service, I really liked the massage, the amount of pressure was just right and it definitely ease my shoulder/neck muscle pain. My massage therapist asked me which areas bothers me and unknot some of the knots by my shoulder blades. I was instantly relieved from the tension on my shoulders. Good stuff! Thanks to YouSwoop my back is nice and sore. I mean that in the best possible way. I apparently was storing industrial rope with knots that any Cub Scout would be proud of, in my back. Mid-way through my massage I began thinking, "These knots aren't so bad... I can live with them... please let me keep my knots!" I've been to several chiropractors in my life, and I've always been nervous when they lay me on the table and crack my neck... I've never felt that way with Dr Creevy-Knox. She does a holistic approach (not as hippie as it sounds) that involves massage therapy, physical therapy, and chiropractic work. On top of that she encourages an overall wellness lifestyle. I love her office too! Its open and spacious with lots of light, it makes going there a pleasure (as opposed to an office with lots of walls and low ceilings). I had never been to a chiropractor previously and picked this one based on yelp reviews (which is why I'm reviewing this now) and because it seemed like they had a good 'whole' approach that included physical therapy and massage along with adjustments. I knew that I would need more than the average "crack and go' since I had been experiencing lower back issues for quite some time, without too much success with other treatments. The staff was always very nice and accommodating throughout the months that i went to PBH, with the physical therapist truly being the best part of the three headed approach. Massage was good, but it was a revolving door of staff, which wasn't the best thing when you're trying to build on the last session. Starting over with someone new, especially some of the less experienced people right out of school was totally a waste of time. There were a few therapists there however that made that 30 minutes of the visit worth it. One thing that was pretty annoying was having to actually tell the massage therapists what to do each and every time you had a massage. There should have been more communication between the doctors and the massage therapists. I understand how important feedback is, but I shouldn't be directing you at all in a place that prides itself on a complete 'treatment' - if i knew what to do, my pain would have been gone long ago. This part of my experience, just smelled like is was built for people to milk their insurance into paying for a massage that made them feel good, but not something that was actually part of a recovery program. A couple therapists were really fantastic and knew what they were doing when it came to muscular structure and how it played a role in your ailment, the others were barely different than getting a massage school session at Cortiva for $40. Anyway, from the beginning, the doctor laid out a plan and assured me that there was no reason that she thought I wouldn't see relief if i committed to the schedule she laid out (which miraculously, lined right up with the exact amount my insurance would cover for 'one instance' of treatment). That's fine, all I'm looking for at this point is a solution. So i committed, and three months later, I was not all that much different than when i walked in the door for the first time. That said, I get the fact that these people aren't going to be able to solve every problem, everyone has. It's just the nature of what they do. If you're arm is broken, no matter how much massage, PT and chiropractic 'adjustment' you get, you're arm is still going to be broken. What bothered me most about this place, was that by the time we were coming to the end of my treatment plan, the input from the doctor was less and less frequent. It was as if they could smell the well drying up. To the point, where we actually scheduled and followed through with an MRI to get a closer look at my problem, that was met with indifference on the part of PBH. When i came in for my last session, i had my adjustment, my massage, and that was it. No exit consultation, no real suggestions on what next steps for me could be, seemingly, and truly, absolutely no concern for me and my recovery. A very nice smile and see you later, but nothing that I expected. After working with a small group of folks for that many months, seeing them 3 times a week, there was one massage therapist and one physical therapist that were great and seemed to have true concern about what i could do there, and outside of there, to help my situation. Other than that, including the two main doctors, you're just a number...and that number coincides with what your insurance is willing to cough up for you. If you're looking for some sort of surface level massage/chiropractic type session, that is more relaxing than anything and your issue is slight or basic maintenance, this place is probably fine. If your issue is a little deeper than something a basic massage can't clear up and you're looking for someone to really delve into your issue and spend time and effort trying to find a solution with you, you should probably look to someone that will actually spend the time to find a solution with you instead of just putting you into the same routine they put everyone else into, hoping it'll fix your issue. To PBH, if you can't fix someone's issue, it would be nice for you to put together some sort of exit consultation where you could outline some potential next pathways. read more

I'd been suffering from earaches for almost 10 years. In the months leading up to my visit to Dr. Creevy, I was experiencing horrendous ear pain almost every day. Even when the pain wasn't excruciating, it was still there, vaguely and annoyingly. My doctor offered little help and never made mention of chiropractic care. Olive oil in the ear was my only salvation. The oil helped, but only temporarily and who wants an oily ear all the time?? Finally a co-worker suggested I try chiropractic. The first practice I visited impressed with their teachings of how the spine affects every part of the body, but the cost for treatment had me in tears. My x-rays showed that I had a problem and here I was unable to afford treatment. That is a feeling I wouldn't wish on anyone. Another co-worker referred me to Proper Balance for a second opinion. Cost aside (because chiropractic is expensive any way you slice it) Dr. Creevy's more advanced equipment was able to better pinpoint the source of my problems and the treatment has been outstanding! After 3 months of treatment my ear aches are almost completely gone. When I started I would have given ANYTHING to not experience that pain every day and here I am feeling great. It's really amazing. Dr. Creevy's method of treatment is unlike many others. Her staff is great and I hope that I can continue to make chiropractic treatment at Proper Balance a part of regular medical treatmnet.
