Our experience with Gyms is that the closer you are to one, the less likely there will be a sting of excuses on why we shouldn't get over there. Now that we're in Genoa, this Anytime Fitness is 8+ miles away, with their branch in Gardnerville perhaps a little closer. We could think of a few places in greater Genoa that could hold a gym, but I doubt that will happen. There's also a small gym near the Ranch course, but we can't join as we don't live in that development. So, for better or worse (location-wise), here's where we'll be for the near future, even though we probably won't be coming as often as we'd like. Residual COVID restrictions are currently precluding the full utilization of their space. On that note, Gayle and I have found their mask policy to not be consistently posted, explained, or followed. Suffice it to say that at this stage, it's not worth making a fuss about it. This is Nevada after all. Plus, being vaccinated allows some breathing room, even as we both remain careful looking out for ourselves. Besides this, the machines are clean and there's plenty of supplies sprinkled around to clean them between uses. We have found the best time to come here is mid-afternoon, as there aren't as many people around. There's a nice selection of equipment, good cubbies for our gym bags, and a couple nice large rooms in back for group activities. The background music is nice and there's a couple TVs that are easily changed (with participant consultation). I personally enjoy about 40 minutes on the treadmill and followed by circuit machine work. Gayle and I have also talked about adding some trainer time, if only to make sure we're using the machines correctly and in an optimal exercise order.

The treadmills are different than my home gyms and I wasn't sure how to find the pre programmed workouts but I still got my 30 minute work out in. I figured out how where to find the preprogrammed work outs after I had already finished mine but that's okay because now I know for next time. The women's restroom and locker room area were very clean which I was happy to see. I also liked how everything was spaced and how conveniently the equipment cleaning stations were placed. They said it was not possible for her to email everyone individually. In today's day, I would expect that to be just a push of a button?!?! Price - Depends on your membership. $15 a month for regular membership, $25 for black card; we are black card members. They also had a pre-open promotion but I am not sure if they are still doing it. They tailor their workouts for the individuals either in a class or solo. The personal training is really great. It teaches you how to properly stretch and the proper way to lift weights. The classes are throughout the day and target different age groups and interests. They are designed for any level of difficulty. They give the group the assigned exercise. Then the instructor demonstrates the beginner level to the group. This is really great for those who want to ease into the sessions. The Boomer Bootcamp has done wonders for my mother and her friends. She has demonstrated increased strength, endurance and has lost weight over the last five months. She truly is eager to attend her classes and is more energized through out the day. The tidal wave class is very fun and at a faster pace than the boomer boot camp. It is based on rowing and intermixing other exercises. This class is very popular. Get here early! Massage: Wow! I can only say simply "the best massage I have ever received!" And I have experienced many massages and none of them have come close to this experience. She spent every minute diligently working and it was so relaxing. Then, to my shock, he recommended the competitor in town. Weird. So we went to the soccer section and whaddya know, kick trainer is there (along with many other options for a soccer kid). Before we found it another sales associate came over and said that there is "nothing really for soccer. We are out of shin guards and there's only a few balls. While he discouraged us from looking - I found it!! Wow. The inventory was pretty light, but not as light as the associates thought it was I guess. We asked about a couple of other things (I know what you are thinking - WHY?) in hopes that we would save time without searching. Sales Associate #1 told us they "haven't had live bait in months. I can't even remember the last time we did." Again, he recommended Sportsman's Warehouse. The only reason we would come back here is that they are priced below many other places. He did get most of what we came for - but not because of the employees. We'd have bought everything elsewhere if we had listened to them. I bring it to the cashier (Keoni, according to the sales slip), and she looks it up in the computer and rings it at $48.99. I advise that the sign shows $5.99. She calls for assistant Manager, who takes the plate and I show her the sign. She tells me that she must "call corporate" to check price. I again point to the very clear sign showing 5.99. She disappears into an office with weight plate. Now, 2 other people are in front of me. While waiting, I see that on the computer screen is a TWENTY FIVE pound plate with the price showing $48.99. I advise Keoni that my plate is 2.5 pounds and she entered the wrong product in her look up. She does not apologize and I suggest that she go tell the asst manager of her error. She does not. Finally, a nice young man comes over to the front registers and I show him Keoni's error. She never admits she made a mistake. I show her on the plate where is clearly is stamped thart this is a 2.5 pound plate...and advise her that she did not enter the correct weight of the plate. She tells me to "quit whinning"..!
