Travel agent Jan Morris, of Direct Travel formerly Peak Travel, has been our travel agent for many years. She is amazing! She is extremely knowledgeable about hotels, airline connections, transportation, and everything you need to have an awesome flawless trip. Her personal attention to detail is unbelievable. Last mont while staying in Disneyland our son wanted to join us. I called Jan and if she could make transportation and other reservations happen on the spur of the moment (only two hours notice). Jan's words were, "of course I can make this happen. And I love doing things like this for my clients." Amazing! American Airlines messed up some recent flight reservations. Jan is so dedicated she spent hours on the phone with American Airlines and worked diligently until everything got straightened out. We have friends who don't use a travel agent for their travels. All I can say to that is, don't leave home unless you have your trip booked by Jan Morris. She always has your back. You can't go wrong no matter how big or small your travels are if you have Jan taking care of you. read more

Word to the wise: I'm pretty sure the other review for Peak Travel on Yelp is from our travel agent, Erin Morse. First of all (read: before I begin with the bad part of this review), Erin was super helpful and friendly. She obviously was really familiar with Asia and her enthusiasm was infectious. When I initially called interested in visiting Europe in August, she suggested Asia instead because Europe is much more expensive that month (and partially closed down). It was an idea that sorta made sense... for Thailand anyway. Thailand is always hot so there's no good time to visit. Japan, on the other hand ended up being was just as hot and humid since we ended up visiting the worst month of the year. We'd never used a travel agent before and thought people used them to save money on travelling. We were very misinformed. We figured that we spend about $2000 more on our honeymoon than we needed to - mostly on hotel rooms. I thought Thailand in particular would be a cheap country to visit but it wasn't with Peak Travel. We would find cheap (but really good quality) hotels on asiarooms.com but our agent said she felt like she couldn't trust the site as much as going through the hotel directly. (I assume it was actually because Peak wouldn't receive a cut from the hotel.) Our agent suggested many tours and we didn't know better that we could have been just as happy or happier exploring on our own. The tours on the Japan portion of our trip were good. The Thailand part of our trip was a disappointment tour-wise. The Siam Nirarit dinner and dancing show was a snore (an expensive snore, too). We felt like the tour to the Golden Palace and Emerald Buddha were unneeded since it would have been easy to explore this complex on our own. Also, the tour conveniently dropped us off at a gem store (the big scam in Bangkok we were to find out since every tuk tuk driver wanted to take us to these, too) in order for us to catch a shuttle back to our hotel. Anyway, the gem store involvement made the tour group seem shady. Also, they arrived 45 minutes late for our tour and claimed they'd called ahead to tell us - then IN FRONT OF US we saw them quietly call the hotel to leave us a message to say they'd be late. Erin did recommend Ko Samui, and that ended up being our favorite part of the trip. However, I really can't recommend the Ko Samui monkey show that Erin had been to that must have changed a lot since she'd seen it. Basically it was the world's worst animal show (for $9/person, too!) where the trained monkeys only did their tricks half the time and the other half involved the monkeys selling candy to visitors for money. Might I mention that the monkeys failed at doing their tricks about half the time, too, and chose to defecate on the stage instead. Since their tricks involved pretending to play a guitar and standing on the heads of visitors I really can't blame them. The good thing about going through an agent is that ours coordinated everything. Travelling from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji and Hakone and then via bullet train to Kyoto might have been a little complicated for us to plan. I guess Peak Travel did a good job. I just would never use them again. I definitely recommend forming your own itinerary using tripadvisor and discount hotel room websites like asiarooms.com and skipping the travel agent. read more

I am even more impressed with Jan after learning all her customers traveling in Egypt were taken to safety and out of Egypt. That's incredible customer service. She really keeps her customers safe even under civil unrest in a country. Jan is an enthusiastic, experienced, and conscientious travel agent. She truly cares about her customers comfort, safety, and getting the best deals. She will find you the best deals ever. If you have troubles she is available and will solve any and all problems as you travel. She will get you home if you need alternative plans at the last minute. She's awesome!! read more

Just got back from a trip to Costa Rica with my husband. Part of it was through a Groupon purchase which my husband and I arranged. Debra Stern of Peak Travel coordinated the first half of the trip and we were very pleased. She is informed, responsive and efficient. In a word: competent. I haven't used travel agents many times lately but I can tell you every single part of the trip she organized ran like clockwork...every driver, every tour happened exactly as planned and her advice was dead on. The drivers and guides were informed, helpful and fun. My husband and I were amazed; it was like having a fairy godmother appear when needed. The final itinerary we got from Debra included all the arrangements she had made PLUS all the arrangements/connections my husband and I had planned, so it was all in one place. Perhaps using a travel agent can be a little more expensive than doing it yourself because they subcontract to local tour groups they trust and perhaps not every hotel is offered through a travel agent, but you're paying for someone else to do the work of making all those arrangements and they're going to recommend places they know are good. I have booked several trips with her and they have been the most memorable stress free vacations I have ever been on. She listened to what we wanted out of our vacations and she gave us choices, made awesome recommendations, and was vigilant about updating us on any travel delays or possible issues. Unbelievably perfect Honeymoon in the Fiji Islands thanks to Jan Morris at Peak Travel!! Jan has been helping my family wander the globe for many years, though this was this first time I've had the honor of working with Jan directly. Aside from being incredibly friendly, warm and helpful from beginning to end, Jan was also extremely knowledgable, professional and sincere with us throughout the planning stages. I started bombarding her with questions on various potential locations about 8-10 months before our wedding, and even through a couple of change ups and curve balls, Jan was always there to respond quickly and never failed to provide her experience and advice to us. My wife and I have not done much international travel; Jan was always quick to answer our questions and provide ample information. The trip itself was phenomenal. Everything, from airline reservations, airport transfers, concierge services, accommodations, completely blew our expectations out of the water...and that was even before all the small surprises and perks Jan had set up for us along the way!! Bottles of champagne waiting at our room in Denerau, complimentary foot bliss treatments at the spa in Savusavu, and a surprise upgrade to a beautiful ocean view Honeymoon suite at Namale. Jan even called the general managers of the resort midway through our trip to check in on us and make sure everything was ok. All I can say is thank you and vinaka vakalevu, Jan, for making our honeymoon such a fairytale. We will never forget the magic and memories we made there with your help. I wish Yelp had a half-star rating as I'd have rated our experience at 2.5. But, 3 will have to do as it was not as bad as a full 2. We used Peak Travel in 2007, when they were still on Lincoln Avenue, to book a bus tour of the British Isles. The tour was great but our experience with the agent left a lot to be desired. We did not go back until this year. On our first cruise a number of yeas ago the Princess rep on board told us to always book a cruise through a travel agent. We booked subsequent cruises with an agent via email/and the phone and it worked well. This year, though, we decided we wanted a local agency where we could go in,meet the agent, talk about our trip desires, etc. Peak Travel had moved to their own office building. I asked to speak with anyone but the person we saw in 2007 and was informed she was no longer there. I was introduced to the agent who handles cruises. I'm not going to name her because I'm sure she is probably a good agent. It just didn't work for us. We always use Princess for our cruises so finding a cruise line was easy. We also knew where we wanted to go...also no work there or her. I was told that the agency had a terrific relationship with Princess and so I thought they probably had a dedicated agent with whom they worked. Like another reviewer, I was somewhat taken aback when told I had to pay a $35 non-refundable fee to Peak Travel. For a moment i thought maybe the cruise lines no longer pay a commission/fee to the agent. But then logic and reality sunk in and I realized this was just another way to add a few bucks to the bottom line. Once our tour was booked I rarely heard from the agent unless I initiated contact. I did change the date of the cruise from July to August but she was on vacation at the time and someone else handled it for me. I had asked about an upgrade but had to email to find out if she'd heard anything. She did tell me she checked to see if anything had come up but she never let me know that unless I approached her. I started to realized that this agency experience was once again a disappointment when I heard from others on our cruise's Cruise Critic Roll Call that their agents were contacting them with lower trip fares. In fact, one couple had received a very significant reduction in cost. Again, I had to email the Peak agent to ask about this and was told she was just about to let me know we had a trip reduction in cost. Why, oh why, did I have to ask about this? One night at dinner with several couples from cruise critic we started talking about travel agents. Both my husband and I remained silent as we listened to one couple telling us that they had a $300 on board credit from their travel agent; another had received $150 credit. Even our online travel agent always made sure we had a credit for a free photograph, which we used for the boarding photo (we don't buy any others). When my girlfriends and I booked an Alaskan cruise with the online agent she sent dessert and cheese trays to our rooms. Letting your client know you appreciate them is really a nice thing to do. It doesn't have to be much...the photography credit was $20, but it meant a lot to us. This time...we got nothing...not even a note wishing us a good journey. I thought that perhaps when we got home we would receive an email from our Peak agent asking us about the trip. Nope...nada...nothing. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Peak Travel. read more

Worked with peak in the past to help a friend book her honeymoon, they did a fine job. Now I am looking to book a trip for 10 girls and they have pissed me off, I emailed Suzanne with what I am looking for and the email I received was she won't work on it til I pay a $35 dollar non refundable research fee for her sweet precious time. I contacted a travel agency, you well make money off the entire trip anyways, so now you just lost my business. If anyone is reading this please don't waste your time, very disappointed. read more

Technically I'm not a customer - yet - since their agent Suzanne basically calmed me down and told me a self-booked itinerary with mistakes probably isn't as bad as I thought. I planned an entire trip through Southeast Asia on my own, dealing with multiple carriers, booked through Expedia. I ended up having incomplete information about names on passports putting airline reservations into a cluster f---. Expedia, especially when booking itineraries across airlines, was totally useless in helping me figure this out. I spent hours trying to fix these problems, when maybe the things I was told were a problem might not have been as big of a problem. What seemed like an attempt to save money turned into a lot of complexity, a brittle schedule, wasted money, and a whole lot of stress and time when I should have enjoyed anticipating getting ready for a great vacation. Moral of the story, hire a real travel agency. Ask for Suzanne. I will next time. read more

I worked with Natalie on planning our Hawaiian vacation and I was very satisfied with her responsiveness and professionalism --- on the front end. The vacation did not go as smoothly (not entirely her fault). A couple of the accommodations we had were only booked for 1 bed and a pull-out sofabed... not my idea of 2 adults traveling on a tropical vacation! Granted, it's my fault for not looking closer at the reservations but when I stated 2 adults with 2 beds, I assumed that meant 2 real beds - it's a vacation after all. No biggie as we were able to upgrade at the hotel. The worst however was when I received BED BUGS (gasp, ack, ouch! WTF!) from the sofabed at the Westin Princeville in Kauai and the hotel refused to acknowledge it or do anything. I was eaten alive for most of my vacation, had pictures of bites all over my body, and after my nasty reviews of their lack of response, I even had others state they went through the same thing there. When I went to Natalie with my encounter and compliant she backed the hotel instead of me, stating I must've gotten mosquito bites and then ignored my subsequent emails. Seriously?! I grew up in a heavy mosquito area and I know the difference! I guess the customer is always wrong here. Because of the lack of response or caring about their customer after they have your money, I would not use these guys again. read more

I contacted Peak Travel Group in March because I wanted to start planning my family's trip to the Philippines and Thailand. I got a hold of Debra and she was absolutely wonderful. She sent me a document to fill out and I did and emailed it back to her. Then she said she was going to contact me after she got back from a pre-planned trip she had. She was supposed to come back early April, but I haven't heard from her at all. Sigh...too bad. My husband and I have now booked 2 wonderful vacations through Natalie Lewis at Peak Travel. The most recent trip was our honeymoon to the Grand Hyatt Kauai and then Intercontinental Moorea in French Polynesia for a total of 2 weeks. Before deciding on our destinations though, Natalie and I emailed back and forth many many times. Natalie did a great job narrowing down our options and then helped us choose the perfect places to stay. Because of our difficult work schedules Natalie had to search a lot for flights that worked for us but finally did. Once our trip began we received several upgrades and small gifts, compliments of Natalie, including access to the Grand Club at the Hyatt, bottles of champagne at both resorts, snacks on our first night in Kauai and cookies in Kauai and Moorea. We didn't book any activities through Natalie before leaving but she gave us several suggestions for activities that were perfect for us. Natalie has actually done many of the activities herself, and with several different operators, so she has first hand knowledge of each one. In addition to making great suggestions for things to do, she recommended several restaurants on Kauai and Moorea. All of the suggestions she made were great and we wouldn't change a thing about the most perfect honeymoon we could ever imagine! read more

I just returned from a road trip with my family. We drove across Arizona and into Nevada, with overnight stays in Sedona, Williams, Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. TANJA RIECK from Peak Travel helped plan this trip. It's been years since I worked with a travel agent but I didn't have a whole lot of time for researching/planning, plus I knew I needed a well-coordinated itinerary that included flights, car rental, train, 4 hotels, Vegas shows, and family-oriented entertainment along the way. Tanja was AMAZING to work with. She was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the areas we planned to visit. She sent me lots of good information and provided various options to choose from. We talked on the phone a few times but we communicated mostly through email. She was very responsive and followed-up promptly. I don't believe I could have got better deals if I'd booked it all myself - in fact, I'm sure she saved me money by getting cheaper deals than I could get. Importantly, she saved me a TON of time. Everything worked out perfectly! There were lots of small things that she took care of, like getting breakfast included in the hotel rate and obtaining really good seat assignments on planes and trains. She sent reminders about checking in for our flights 24 hours in advance (this was helpful - since it was Thanksgiving week and the airport was crazy busy). Often those small things make a big difference when traveling with kids. She even checked in with me via email DURING the trip to ensure everything was going ok. Then a few days after we got home, we received a box of gourmet brownies from Tanja as a thank you for booking our trip through her! What a delightful surprise! I will certainly contact Tanja again for travel assistance in the future and I recommend her services without hesitation. read more

I have done quite a bit of traveling over the years, both domestically and abroad, and this is the first time I have used a Travel Agency in quite some time. Long story short, I will never do it any other way again. My family and I just returned from a vacation in Cancun, Mexico. Peak Travel Agency, and specifically Debra Stern and Stella Helton, salvaged what could have been a travel disaster, and turned it into a great trip for me and my family. I highly, highly recommend this agency and these two travel agents. Without going into all the sordid details, our flights were cancelled at the last minute by US Air (literally the day we were supposed to fly out), which was going to cut our trip from a short 4 days to a very short 3 days. Through their association with Journese Travel, Debra and Stella were able to work on our behalf, pull some strings, and get a day added onto the back end of our vacation, plus change the flights on the return trip home, to accommodate us and help us regain that important extra day -- all on very short notice and all duting Christmas week, when travel plans are very difficult to change under any circumstance. ...oh, and did I mention that Debra facilitated this while she was away on a family trip of her own?...even though she was out of the office and not supposed to be working, she was very responsive to my cries for help and she made sure that everything was handled for us. I could not be more pleased with any service than I am with Debra, Stella, and Peak Travel Group. I strongly recommend their services. I know I'll be using them again for my next trip. read more

One of Peaks travel agents really blew it with my cruise booking. And when the cruise line refused to give me my money back, the travel agent suggested I file a bogus travel insurance claim. Do they realize that's breaking the law?!? Instead of refunding the amount to me and then going after the cruise line directly, they told there was nothing they could do for me. What's the point of having a travel agent if they won't help you out when you need them?!?! Peak really did a wretched job. They're fine if nothing goes wrong; but when the inevitable happens, they toss you to the curb. Stay away from these folks. read more

I used Yelp to find a travel agent in Campbell/San Jose area. Her name is Jan Morris. She is as great as the review I read. She is very nice, very friendly but, also extremly professional. I have some challenges, but she told me she will take care of everything and, she is as good as her word. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME! I would give (0) stars if possible.The 1st agent was confused and screwed up our reservation, etc.,. She was apparently fired. So then we were give a new agent to take over our reservation. She's nice and doesn't appear to be overwhelmed. So, we met with her and she was going to look into a lower price for the car rental, etc., and see what she could do to lower the already EXPENSIVE TOTAL. Well, the car rental didn't change, room(no up grade after all of this irritation), no waiving of fees, bags, etc. So, the "manager" was fully aware of all the problems, confusion and mistakes from the 1st agent. Both agents talked about their "Hawaiian Rep," and nothing exceptional or upgrade was ever given by this so called, "Hawaiian Rep." So, today we were given $100.00 off the total price( not per person) and a cheap luau(no VIP upgrade). No gesture to end on a positive note. Save yourself a headache and a lot of money and book your trip online or go to another agency. read more

Booked two trips through Natalie L. One to Hawaii and one to Tahiti, both for my wife and I. She not only booked it with no glitches but she made recommendations that I would not have known about or thought about. She worked within our budget and made recommendations accordingly. Not sure why someone would give a 1 star for a Westin hotel that might have had bed bugs which would not be under Natalie's control. But because she "defended" (whatever that means) the hotel, you get mad and give a 1 star!! All I can say is that my wife's and my experience with her on TWO occasions turned out to be great. In fact, when I called her to begin to book a trip to Greece and Italy, with Italy being the main focus, she said: "That's not my area of expertise" and turned me over to Tessie whose apparently experienced in that travel area. That shows me a good business practice. It's been years ago that I booked other trips but unfortunately don't remember who I dealt with. But my experiences have all been good, so far, wth Peak Travel Group. Always ask if the agent has personally stayed at any particular hotel. If not, why are they recommending it. Then base your decision on that. The rest is left to happenstance. read more
