We were in a rush so opted for some of the easier to eat options on the menu which turned out to be scallops for appetizer and a burger and fish & chips for main. It felt a bit weird for me to order a burger from a menu that is predominantly seafood but I am glad I did as the burger was good. The patty was juicy and overall the burger was flavourful. The fish & chips were good as well. I felt like the ratio of batter to fish was good and the fish felt less flaky than fish & chips at some other places. Also have to mention the scallops which I thought were done exceptionally well. The dish comes with three scallops and three pieces of pork so me and my partner had to fight over who gets the extra scallop as we both liked it a lot. Service was great here as the staff were friendly and helpful. They came by often to check on us and to remove our plates as we finished our dishes. The food also did not take very long to arrive which was great as we were pretty hungry at the time. I have only been here a few times but so far my experience has been very pleasant. The only thing I can think of that may be a negative is that if you are not looking to have oysters or fish then your choice of mains may be a bit limited. I think I may have died and went to heaven over this food!!! I decided to come here with my bf as he loves brunch and seafood, so why not bring the both of them together? I booked a reservation for 1:00pm on a Sunday and surprisingly it wasn't that busy! We had a really cute af table (take those gram pics girl) and had a few menus, one for brunch, seafood mains and drinks. They have a daily special, 12 oysters for $20, and TRUST ME, YALL NEED TO GET THIS! I almost inhaled it out of my bf's plate but he swatted me away like a fly. For brunch, I got the fried oyster Benedict (with the sauce separate) and he got the lobster Benedict. One of my favourite places to go for seafood for sure. We decided to take my friends from Australia here, as they have option their special are affordable, but they also have a great menu. I have never had a bad experience yet, with the service here. The services are a good conversationalist but also don't push it if you're just looking to order and have your food, or enjoy the dining companions company instead of that of a server. The server was also very kind in fixing a mistake for us, as he had accidentally put in an order of a whole fish, which we had discussed as a table but decided NOT to order. We started with they're ever delicious oysters (6) just as an app, and very fresh sweet oysters. I ordered the trout with a Korean style flair? It had kimchi styled rice, fried egg, and broccolini. My wife ordered the mackerel appetizer (whole fish btw). My guests order the scallop dish and a clam chowder Everything ate really well, fish was cooked beautifully. Whole mackerel was a surprise and very tasty. My guests from Australia enjoy the clam chowder and the scallops looked delicious. There isn't a ton to say about this place in re: to the food. I found Pearl Diver while researching some happy hour options in Toronto. They offer up a really good deal for happy hour and for brunch - $18 for a dozen oysters - 6 East Coast and 6 West Coast. We came in on Easter Sunday at around 11am for brunch and were seated immediately. We actually had our pick of tables. By the time we left though, at around 12:30pm, it was pretty packed. We started with the dozen oyster special and both thoroughly enjoyed our oysters. They were very fresh and well-shucked. I liked the West Coast ones better, but BF preferred the East Coast oysters. For our mains, I had the Lobster Benny and BF had the Fried Oyster Benny. They both come with a side salad and the most amazing fried potatoes. They were glazed in some kind of sauce, which was phenomenal. My lobster benny was really good - I really enjoyed it. Service was attentive, but it did take a bit of time getting our check. More of a 3.5, not yet a 4. Had dinner with my relative on a Friday evening. Made reservations and requested to be near the window, which they accomodated. My relative was surprised about the nice table she got, not knowing I had already requested it. lol. We ordered the following: FOOD - Seafood Tower (regular market price, about $60-65) which consists of the top layer (crab legs, mussels, tuna) and bottom layer (oysters, I believe half fanny bay and half malpeques). I have to say, I was not won over by the Seafood Tower. If I had to order again, I would likely just do oysters only. They were very fresh and would definitely recommend. I was okay with the crab and tuna but the mussels tasted a bit rubbery to me. Did not enjoy them too much. - Pearly chowder (small plate $8.00) with double smoked bacon, potatoes,and clams was good and filling. I liked that it was creamy and smooth. DRINK - The mojito was not to my liking, which was surprising but I think the ratio of mint and rum was just off. Not sure, but it just tasted off to me. For the price, I was disappointed. I think its a bit cheaper than the shirmp cocktail ($16) but I probably should have ordered that instead. SERVICE - Good, cleared table off promptly and refilled water. Did not take long to come back and get any additional orders in. Overall, would I come back? I think so but I dont know if I would do any big outtings or celebrations here as I just had an okay-good experience but not a great one. I normally order only a half dozen, but a full dozen was no problem. My fish and chips were fresh and crispy. My husband really liked his pan seared trout with kimchi fried rice. The one misfire was the calamari appetizer, which was overbreaded and overfried--you couldn't taste the calamari at all. If you want something extra, I would definitely order a dozen of oysters to start with. Fried oyster Benedict: The eggs were poached perfectly and sitting on top of the fried oysters. The hollandaise sauce was delicious since it wasn't too salty. Lobster: The lobster Pieces were very small but the dish was still very tasty. What a great place! I don't even know where to start with this review. The ambiance is really good with an industrial modern look and feel to it. There are really nice touches at the bar and on the walls that feel really authentically Canadian. If the environment doesn't pull you in the drinks will. I had a delicious Moscow Mule, so good it convinced my friends to get one as well. I'm a sucker for ginger beer . The water was nice too surprisingly, I don't usually review water but it was so memorable I had to mention it here. The food was the real winner still the oysters were racy fresh and the range of the selection was good too. I wanted to try this based on a recommendation I got the pearl river burger with smoked cheese and their special sauce. Honestly it was one of the best burgers I had in my life you can taste the smokiness of the cheese and the tender beef patty and the sauce just coats everything together. It had a crowd at lunchtime I'm assuming dinner gets packed. The oysters were really flavourful with the lemon tasted super fresh. Made it to Pearl Diver for their Tuesday Seafood Tower special. I arrived with a reservation at 6:30 pm, the place was packed and people without reservations were waiting at the door for a seat. We ordered the Seafood Tower, Pearly Chowder, Fried Lake Erie Smelts, and Korean Style Grilled Mackerel. We also ordered a Caesar to go with our meal. Before we even ordered all the food, the waitress came by to ask if we were going to order the seafood tower and that she would get it started immediately so we didn't have to wait as long. When we ordered the food, she recommended that we eat the seafood tower first and after she would bring out the smelts and the mackerel so that the wouldn't go cold while we ate the seafood tower. It was terribly considerate of her to offer to do this for us and it left us with a great impression of the place. The Seafood Tower for 39.99 is a great deal for a dozen oysters, pickled mussels, 6 shrimp cocktails, 4 seared albacore tuna and 4 snow crab legs. I loved the seared albacore tuna, although it was only seared, it had a smokey taste to it that adds to the flavor. The shrimp had some paprika sprinkled onto it which is a nice touch. The snow crab was fresh but so difficult to eat as they didn't pre-crack the legs for you and you had to do it yourself. I kind of wished they had lobster on the tower instead of crab legs, but for the price of 39.99 you really can't complain. I wasn't a big fan of the pickled mussels since I'm not a big fan of vinegar. I also thought the the oysters weren't as high quality compared to the dozen oysters for 19.99 deal I had previously. I really liked the fried smelts, they were fried and shaped like fries that you can dip into a Korean chojang like ketchup. They were chewy but so good, I mean, what's not to like about fries that are made of fish? The grilled mackerel was also an insanely good deal for the size of the fish, it was grilled just right and the their weren't too many fish bones you had to pick out. Their Caesar though, so good! Might be one of the best I've had in a restaurant. It even comes with an oyster! We were inexplicably craving oysters, so a quick Google Maps search pointed us straight to Pearl Diver. We showed up during what turned out to be their Happy Hour, so we managed to snag 12 oysters for a surprisingly decent price. And while I wouldn't say they were the best oysters I've ever had - they seemed a little too watery, somehow - I definitely enjoyed eating them and felt like they were improved by the included accoutrements. I also decided to give their Pearly Chowder ("double smoked bacon, Yukon potatoes, clams, and daily catch") a shot, and it also hit the spot. The broth was perhaps just a little too watered-down for my personal preference, but the flavors were there and it was certainly loaded with chunks of potato and seafood. The only kind of unpleasant aspect to the evening was how hot it started to get. I really enjoyed the Bonnie & Clyde from Nova Scotia, the best out of the 4 different oysters. It was fun to see my friends freak out while attempting to scarf down an aphrodisiac! We also ordered the crispy calamari as another starter. It was better than most places I've ordered from before, I think it's because of the breading on the calamari. It had white & black sesame seeds on it which gave it an extra crunch, complimenting the tender squid on the inside. I ordered the grilled sea bream for my main. It was better than I thought it was going to be! At first, my friends thought I was crazy to order just a plain fish; the sea bream didn't come with a side as well. BOY! Did this fish prove us all wrong! The bone was easy to take off and it allowed the fish to keep a good amount of it's fattiness. The meat was thicker than most white fishes, and the skin was crispy from the grilling. On top of that, the lemon was a heavenly balance to neutralize the char-flavour of the grill - MWAH! First time here, chose this because we wanted seafood for dinner. Small restaurant, I would recommend trying to reserve ahead of time to ensure you get a seat. Had a salt lake seasonal brew that was not good at all, tasted like a old man beer. We ordered several appetizers which included calamari, dozen of oysters, and scallops. Calamari was quite disappointing I was not even sure if it was calamari certainly didn't taste like it, the deep fried batter/pankp was overwhelming and was all we could taste along with the black sesame seeds. The scallops were the best appetizier, it was seared and flavorful. For the main entrees we had the Norwegian trout over a kimchi fried rice and the mussels made in a cream sauce with a side of bread. Both were amazing, and most surprisingly for me was how well the trout went with the kimchi fried rice and how well it was prepared. The trout skin was quite salty though. This review is based off of a delivery order, not in person. I ordered from Pearl Diver because I was really craving a good lobster roll, and given its great reviews I had to try them out. My partner was easily convinced into order their signature burger, easy compromise. The food was delicious and well packaged, but for the price, I had to knock off one star. The lobster roll was everything I dreamed of, but for $25 I really expected more than a 4 inch roll with maybe a quarter cup of lobster. The whole thing took me all of 3 bites to eat, in less than 2 minutes. Tasty, but such a disappointment. Many mixed emotions here. On top of that, you have to order a side, but the price of the side is not included in the combo so I had to pay an extra $5 for fries, which was...not great. I'm glad they forced me to order the fries though, because they ended up being the main part of my meal since my lobster roll disappeared in 2 minutes. I was hungry after, and very jealous of my partner's burger, which he enjoyed and was a generous portion (also required to pay extra for a side). I cannot give 5 stars based on how disappointed I was, but I will also not leave a bad review because I believe the in-person dining experience will be much different. Would not recommend this restaurant to others. Our waitress had no smile at all and I'm not the type who needs a huge greetings from the server when I sat down in a restaurant. She asked if we knew about the special today and we said that's we are here for (which is the seafood tower), she then disappeared and didn't even ask if we would like to order anything. Then after a while the seafood tower came and it wasn't something I was expecting. See pic. It only took us 15 mins to finish it up (we did order lobster roll and chowder after another waiter who brought the seafood tower for us). We then asked for the bill and to my surprise, a 18% gratuity tip has been included in my bill! My husband and I started off with side salads. He got the Pearl Diver Caesar and I got the Mixed Green Salad. Both were very good. I tasted a little of my husband's and it was good. He even made mention of how good it was, so I guess he enjoyed it. Haha. My salad was very good as well, flavorful and bright! We then ordered Crispy Calamari. It had sesame and Panko crust, sweet chili, ginger and lime dip. This Calamari was very flavorful and good. The panko crusting was fried perfect and lended the perfect crunch. The dipping sauce was amazing and flavorful as well. It gave a good Asian inspired vibe. We both ordered the Norwegian Ocean Trout for dinner. It came with kimchi fried rice, broccoli, toasted seaweed, sesame and fried egg. This dish was well executed and nicely put together. I loved the flavors of this dish. Again it was an Asian twist to a classic fish and rice dish. The Trout was cooked well although I could have had mine a little more done on the inside. The rice was seasoned perfect and had a great taste. It wasn't too spicy but gave a nice hint of heat. We ordered my daughter a hamburger patty with nothing on it and fries. The patty was well seasoned. My only complaint here was they charged us $17 for this. It was their regular burger dish without all the toppings. I thought this was ridiculous for a child's plate. They didn't have a kids menu so we had to improvise. However, they can do better than $17 for a child's plate. Last, we ordered desert. We ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake. It sounds a little odd but it was amazing. It was like a baby between spiced cake and bread pudding. It was flavorful and tender. A very good tasting dessert! Pearl Diver occupies a nice location on Adelaide just off Jarvis. It has a good décor and comfortable feeling about it. I stopped by here twice. First on a Sunday at 2:30 but though the sign says it's open at 11:00 that apparently didn't pertain to the kitchen unless it had been open earlier because at 2:30 it was closed. However, since the place looked pretty good compared to some of the other nearby restaurants, stopped back again on Monday. One of their specials of the day was grilled sardine done Portuguese style. As I'm a big fan of that particular dish, ordering them all the time when in Portugal, I went for it along with a dozen oysters raw. The sardines came in a nice presentation, grilled with plenty of lemon and proved to in fact have been done Portuguese style, pretty much the equal of any I've had in Portugal. The oysters were rather small, certainly no plump but fresh with a good clean taste about them. Overall, at $15 Canadian, not a bad deal. Came here on their 100 oysters for $100 night. Personally, I'm not an oyster eater but I had been invited for dinner and saw other items on the menu that I would definitely enjoy. Restaurant was booming when we arrived. We were escorted to our reserved seating in the back of the restaurant inside the private room, which was nice as it was quieter in there. It was decorated with some retro deco and added some hominess to the restaurant. The service was great, everyone was super attentive and nice. Pearl Diver specializes in oysters and seafood so we ordered the oyster special, calamari to share, the burger, trout with kimchi fried rice, seafood chowder, mushroom salad, fries and I also ordered a fish n chips for myself. Every dish arrived promptly and super fresh. Since we were at an oyster bar, I decided to try one just to see if it could change my mind. Surprisingly it wasn't bad at all and I ended up eating 2 (which for me is a lot). Generally I find raw seafood too fishy but these oysters had no fishy taste at all. It was quite fresh. For $1 an oyster, it was a great deal. Everything else we ordered tasted great. I loved the light cream of the chowder with chunks of fresh seafood; the fries were fresh cut and had a great seasoning on them; calamari was super crispy on the outside and really tender on the inside; mushroom salad was okay; the burger was a hit and my fish n chips was really hot, crispy and flavourful all throughout the batter to the fish. For dessert we went for the platter to share. You are given the option to choose 4 of any of the desserts they have on the menu that day. We decided to get 2 black sesame cakes, chocolate cake with matcha ice cream and 1 sticky toffee cake. All of them were okay, a little dry for my liking but that didn't stop me from eating everything. Overall, I had a great time at Pearl Diver and can vouch for the freshness and tastiness of all the food. It's a great place to check out if you enjoy oysters and seafood. Just try to get into the private room if you can, I found it more enjoyable. read more

We ordered the seafood tower and it looked quite impressive. Unfortunately, I don't particularly enjoy west coast oysters and today they served Fanny Bay. These suckers were huge! I had no problem with the size, I just think west coast oysters have a very distinct taste. Everything else in the "seafood circus" was fine though. I started with the "clam chowdah" and found it to be just okay. I would've liked to see more seafood, since it was predominantly potatoes. I also expect chowder to be a bit creamier and heartier. This was kind of runny. Let's order a burger at a seafood restaurant! Why not?! I've tried the burger here and it was good. Today though, somewhat disappointing. I asked if the burger would be cooked medium rare. It wasn't. It was more like medium well. It wasn't juicy at all. The side of fries were alright. I'm sorry Shucker Paddy! Pearl Diver - Seafood circus. Tuesday special. - Seafood Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

This place is a gem. I have dined here with my family (wife and two young kids) as out of towners about a half a dozen times the past 4 years or so. The quality of the food (from the raw bar and kitchen) and the service were very high for all visits. Two other notable aspects (to me at least). First, I like it how less common dishes such as mackerel and Portuguese sardines are on their menu. Second, if I designed in a lab the ideal dish based on my preferences, it would be this restaurant's steelhead trout dish on a bed of kimchee fried rice with a side of broccolini. Came here for a friend's birthday dinner and it was quite busy. If you are an oysters lover, then this place is for you! They have a wide selection of oysters you can choose from and depending on where they are from, it will be different. Besides oysters, they also have other items on their menu, however, most of the dishes we ordered were just okay, the only one I really enjoyed beside the oysters was the Grilled Whole Fish. The outer layer (skin) were crispy and the meat was delicious. If you are in downtown and looking for an oyster spot just for oysters, then I will recommend this place. read more

I am surprised to see that I haven't reviewed Pearl Diver yet as I am a huge fan of this place! A recent visit reminded me how much I love this place and that I just don't come here enough! I especially enjoy their Thursday daily special - $100 for 100 oysters. I didn't know I was capable of eating 33 oysters on my own (I had split the 100 oysters with just 2 friends) until I tried it at Pearl Diver! The oysters were so fresh, plump and delicious, and I was very impressed with the quality. Sometimes when you go for $1 a shuck promos, you don't always get the best oysters, but that was not the case at Pearl Diver. Over the years, I've tried various things on their menu and everything has always been delicious. A surprising highlight for me was their burger - charred to delicious perfection. The burger wasn't cheap (priced at $20) but honestly has been one of the best gourmet burgers I've had in a long time. Highly recommend everyone to check out Pearl Diver if you live or work near the downtown core! read more
