Unfortunately, my interaction with the woman doing the eye exams, Charlie, completely changed the experience for me. I accidentally mixed up the Seal Beach and Long Beach locations when booking. Once I realized on my GPS, I immediately called to let them know I'd be about 10-15 minutes late. I apologized multiple times and even offered to reschedule, but the employee on the phone reassured me it was completely fine and told me to still come in. When I arrived, I was sitting in the lobby filling out paperwork when Charlie came out and loudly said multiple times that she would "rather take the patient that was on time," making it obvious she was referring to me. It was embarrassing and honestly unnecessary, especially after I had already called ahead and offered to reschedule. When she later called me back for the exam, I calmly asked if there was an issue with me being late and again offered to reschedule. Instead of acknowledging how it came across, she became defensive and started rambling. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable continuing the appointment, so I decided to leave. What really confirmed everything for me was that after I walked out and came back in to ask for her name, I overheard her loudly saying, "I wasn't being rude." Clearly the situation was already being discussed the second I left. Instead of accountability, the immediate reaction was defensiveness. And honestly, if conversations about patients are already happening loudly in the lobby, it makes me uncomfortable thinking about how patients may be spoken about behind closed doors. What's really unfortunate is that I waited a week for this appointment. Patients should feel comfortable and respected during medical appointments, not embarrassed in front of a waiting room.

She's kind and knowledgeable, as one would hope, but she's also something I didn't know I needed in an optometrist: she's someone who does more than simple eye exams, but spots actual medical issues and refers out as needed. As I was in her room just today for my annual exam, I took notice of her MANY degrees on the wall, and suddenly the mystery was solved. This is a sharp and very educated doctor, who clearly takes her job and patients seriously. She spotted my son's keracotonus five years ago, she spotted my high blood pressure that my doctors were telling me not to worry about (last year, but also asking me about today even before my exam - for a moment I was confused, like, "are you my primary, what is even going on??"), and she has been instrumental in getting me to the right people for some last minute ophthalmologist issues otherwise. I went in on 3/2/26 prepared to invest in a full new setup including Kate Spade frames with progressive transition lenses, but I walked away 400 dollars out of pocket with glasses that are completely unusable. ​My primary need is seeing my computer screen, but when I sit down everything is blurry. Instead of addressing the lens issue, the staff tried to "rig" the frames by adding double nose pads and bending the ear pieces so tightly they dug into my head to force the glasses higher. When I returned after my first pair was finished on 3/16, a different staff member admitted the lenses were made incorrectly, yet they repeatedly mentioned a one-time fee for the correction as if the error was my fault. ​Between the initial fitting and the follow-ups, I spoke directly with four different staff members on the sales and fitting side. I received a second set of lenses on 3/25, but they were just as blurry. Trying to find the "sweet spot" in the prescription caused so much eye strain that I was in tears by 10 AM the next day. When I finally asked for a refund, they refused and even told my insurance company no. I am now out 400 dollars, I still do not have functional glasses, and I was never even given a copy of my prescription. ​I have officially filed a formal complaint with the California State Board of Optometry regarding the refusal to refund for a non-functional medical device. I am also reporting the office for violating the FTC Eyeglass Rule, as I was never provided a copy of my prescription after my exam. While the energy in the office is positive, the policies regarding defective products and the lack of empathy for inaccurate results is unsettling. If your prescription doesn't work out the first time, be prepared for a very difficult and expensive struggle.
