After consultation and signed payment agreement confirmed on same operation day, PearlMax collected our Patient Portion payment in full, then sent an inflated bill to our insurance and received Insurance Coverage payment more than estimated amount in the agreement. Even though they already received payments more than in the signed agreement, 9 months later they are still trying to overcharge us, and threatening us with collection harassment. I've been putting off getting my wisdom teeth out for years since mine were impacted, but finally mustered up the courage to just get it done. I was referred to Pearlmax by my dentist and had a consultation with Dr Trujillo. The office was very clean and the staff were nice. The process seemed very straightforward and two weeks later I came in for the surgery. I have pretty bad anxiety and was internally freaking out as they were getting everything set up. One second Dr Trujillo was putting in the anesthesia (which was painless) and the next I was being tapped on the shoulder to wake up. I'm on day 4 of recovery and barely had any pain or swelling. The most pain was on day 2 which was a 6/10. Despite my anxiety, I'm happy how my whole experience turned out. WHAT TO EXPECT: when getting your tooth extracted from Pearlmax Oral Surgery. I work with very aggressive dogs, and have many scars on my face to show for it, regardless of my balls of steel I was terrified of the dentist even more the idea of exodontistry. A horrible experience in my youth with Dr. Hack- no joke that was his name - traumatized me. Needless to say, thoughts of going to anybody to work on my teeth were frightening. Furthermore, who can I trust not to sell me something I don't need due to my lack of education about maxillofacial? After visiting a dentist who was recommended to me, I was told I needed a crown on my cracked tooth which had become decayed and infected. Granted - I have not had any formal education in dentistry, however I felt due to the extent of decay on my tooth a crown was not in my best interest, an implant was. I expressed this to the dentist, and I was brushed off while being told "that's a very important tooth!" I was being told to do something I didn't want - putting a roof on a house with a bad frame. I decided it was best to have my tooth removed. Here comes the anxiety of who is going to extract my tooth? Am I going to have the pain I experienced with Dr. Hack - who should have been a butcher and not a dentist? Dr. Trujillo was recommended to me. My better half had already been there, and he only wants the best for me. He didn't want a Groupon deal, or the cheapest rates = you get what you pay for. My insurance had lapsed, therefore I'm paying out of pocket. I didn't want to be treated "lesser than" due to lack of insurance. Upon setting the appointment the staff was very congenial and were more than happy to cover pricing with me. Thank you! They called informing me a day before of "what to do" instructions in preparation for the procedure and understanding when restated I wanted my tooth extracted same day as my consultation, even were kind enough to tell me to bring a sweater because it gets cold in the back. Day of my appointment, the check-in was pretty easy - filled out the usual forms, and went in for my consultation. The doctor was kind, he wasn't trying to sell me anything. He answered all of my questions thoroughly. Great bedside manner, very personable! I had questions about the implant I wanted, he explained the time & procedure. Pack the hole, come back in 4 months for the implant, go to a rugggularr dentist 4 months after that for the new tooth. After my consultation, I was given all of my price options. I opted for the tooth extraction, bone replacement graft, and local anesthesia as I didn't have anybody to drive me home. When preparing for the extraction, the dental hygienist offered fabulous conversation about the music as I like to mock everything on a day-to-day basis. Dr. Trujillo came in, made sure I was comfortable. He proceeded with the anesthesia injection = painless. There was a slight pinch when he did the roof of my mouth, and a few seconds later you could have dropped a hammer on the left side of my face and I would not have felt it. During the procedure Dr. Trujillo was extremely gentle making sure I was comfortable, and very light-handed with the elevator, curetting, and all tools needed to extract my decayed #14. The sounds of grinding and scraping didn't bother me at all, I was rather pleased to have it going on in comparison to the pain I had felt with my tooth due to infection. I was stitched up, and a wax was placed on top. That wax definitely helped with my healing process otherwise I would have tongued my socket, I also believe it helped prevent against alveolar osteitis (dry socket). I was given a prescription for antibiotics, ibuprofen and Percocet + set up my follow-up for the next week. I went home, went about my business and passed out before I could get my prescriptions. The next day I woke up with no pain whatsoever. I was a little groggy, but no pain at all. There was no need for the Percocet or Ibuprofen! I figured the follow-up was going to be a wham-bam thank-you ma'am, I've already collected your money I'm just doing what I need to do to make sure I'm not going to be sued type follow up. The good doctor actually spent some time with me. I had a few questions and asked for a recommendation for a dentist. He explained to me what "deep cleaning" is, as I already knew however I had questions in regards to dentists and what I have been told versus what I have read. He takes the time and pulls out models to show you as a tool for procedures. I learned stuff! Highly recommend. REASONS TO VISIT: 1. I've never went to the dentist here in the States since I am from Taiwan, where the procedure to go to one isn't as complicated. Anyways, My wisdom tooth erupted, which hurts my entire jaw for a couple days. I went to Pearlmax since Dr.Trujillo came up first in my dental plan and had good reviews. When I visited, Dr.Trujillo and his staff were extremely courteous and friendly! After thorough explanation, they gave me a plan and the exact amount of cost without upselling me. On the day of the procedure, it went pretty smoothly as I was knocked out with general anesthesia. After I woke up, they let me sit there for a while until I was comfortable enough to move. I'm so happy that got my wisdom tooth removed at this place. Dr. German Trujillo is the best! I have a horrible experience with my other wisdom tooth in the past in Brazil, and I have this one left that I tried at least 10 different dentists in the last 5 years and nobody wanted to do it because the position was complicated and it was super close to my nerve. I was recommended by my dentist Dr. Pablo Liciaga (another terrific dentist) and I couldn't be happier! I got my wisdom tooth removed last Friday, and I choose to do it awake just because I was never been under general anesthesia before. To start the assistant were super nice and kind, they explained everything before, and make me feel very comfortable. I didn't feel any pain, and I remember the Dr. saying to the assistants many times that they have to be careful with my nerve, he seemed very confident with what he was doing. If you wonder how is doing the procedure awake, I didn't feel any pain, but there's a lot of noise, and IS VERY LOUD, you can also feel some pressure. It didn't bother me at all because I've been through so many dental procedures, but if you have dental anxiety/ phobia you can choose the general anesthesia. Even when many other dentists told me that my nerve would probably be affected, the day after the surgery when the anesthesia passed I felt my mouth perfectly again and my nerve was not affected. I have my nerve hit on another side in Brazil and wasn't a big deal, I felt my mouth again after a few months, but the ability of Dr. Trujillo of removing the tooth and not hitting my nerve, just states how skillful and efficient he is. Another huge plus about Pearlmax is its fair prices and financing options. I do not have insurance and I was worried about not being able to afford my surgery with them, but they gave me a very reasonable price and an installment option so it was very doable. I'm recovering super fast, I didn't experience any swallowing or severe pain, I didn't even need the pain killers after the second day, I'm just following the recommendation and I am healing super fast. My experience: I had my wisdom teeth removed back in November'19 by Dr. Trujilo and co. and am extremely satisfied with the treatment I received! At my consultation appointment, Dr. Trujilo reviewed my x-rays and was very transparent with the procedure and what to expect the day of. Additionally, he took the time to address all my additional questions/concerns and was very professional during the whole process. I left the office that day with a summary with a breakdown of costs (very reasonable) and did not feel that they were pushy at all. Day of extraction: I came in after fasting since midnight the night before. I signed some paperwork and it was off to the operation room. I received anesthesia in my arm which was painless. Had a brief conversation with Dr. Trujilo and his assistants and it was lights out for me. After the procedure, I was groggy but was not in any pain. The staff gave me instructions on how to clean the extraction areas and a list of what foods I could eat along with a prescription for pain meds and antibiotics. Recovery took about 2 days and I was back at work having virtually no pain during that time. I think the worst part of it all was the slight nausea I experienced right after the procedure from the anesthesia. Overall it was a great experience. I cannot recommend Pearlmax enough! I was referred to Pearlmax from Padre Dental. I desperately needed my wisdom teeth out ASAP! I was in a lot of pain. When I called on a Monday and spoke with Beth and told her my situation she had even suggested I try and come in that same day. Because of money issues, I had to wait until that Friday. Beth was extremely accommodating when it came to pricing as I was paying with cash. I do have Carington Dental Discount plan, but that's all it is, it isn't insurance. She was able to get my an appointment in the morning for my Consult and then she scheduled the surgery for that evening! Their office is located in a very convenient building with plenty of parking around as it is close to the hospital. Their office is nice and comfortable. They offer mini water bottles and coffee or tea. Too bad I couldn't have anything, as I was not suppose to even drink water before surgery =( I only sat waiting for maybe 5 min tops! I was taken back for X-Rays by 2 wonderful woman, Michelle and Dani (not sure about spelling) They were extremely nice and helpful. I was put in the exam room after X-Rays and waited no more than 2 min for Dr. Trujillo. He was extremely explanatory about what I needed done and helped me with a difficult decision as I could only afford to get 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled, even though he did suggest that all 4 really should have been extracted, I unfortunately had to just choose 2. He was very helpful and we decided on the bottom 2 under general anesthesia. I was given my quote on my way out, with instructions for the surgery that afternoon. When I came back I again waited no more than 5 min for Michelle and Dani to bring me back to prep for the surgery. They were extremely caring and funny to lighten up the mood. I was prepped and Dr. Trujillo came in to to start the IV line for the anesthesia. He was also extremely caring and nice and they all explained everything in detail. Before I knew it I was out. Woke up to my rides voice sitting next to me, they had escorted him back to me, then gave him all of my post op instructions, which were a lot. All in all, I would highly recommend Pearlmax to anyone in oral surgery need! I will be going back hopefully at the end of the summer to have the other 2 wisdom teeth extracted, and I think I am actually looking forward to the experience instead of dreading it! I called the office and told them the insurance agency was waiting on chart notes from my extraction. For several months I did not hear from PearlMax -- instead I received a call from a collections agency in May 2012. Once again I had to speak with my insurance provider and PearlMax to settle the claim. It has taken PearlMax over a year since my extraction to finalize billing and I just received a billing statement for $40. read more

I'm a 41 year old guy and I've not been to the dentist in over 25 years due to a bad experience as a child. I've never written a yelp review before, it's just not me but I had to let people know about this place and my experience. In the last 10 weeks I have had a bunch of work done including 13 fillings a crown, post and a retreat. I was sent here to Pearl Max as I needed a oral surgeon to remove a wisdom tooth. My dentist referred me. I had an accident a couple of years ago which left me with a brain injury (not that anyone would be able to tell from meeting me) and as a result I don't process things like regular people and anxiety and fear and the ability to process emotions to things going on around me is insanely heightened and difficult for me. That said I cannot speak more highly of this practice. The entire team from the receptionist Marella who was so welcoming and professional to the finance expert Jen to the dentist himself German Trujillo to his surgery team BRYCE & ELISHA made me feel so at ease, calm and informed. They listened to me when I was explaining my issues and how I fear and have immense anxiety. The dentist really took time and patience to explain everything to me in a way that I could easily understand. Jen in finance who deals with the insurance side of things was so professional and quick with having everything ready and in front of me in a matter of minutes. The surgery team BRYCE and ELISHA were so amazing doing what they did with ease, making me feel relaxed and welcome and intern calming me and making the experience well actually a good one Once in surgery they really kept the environment calm and light and chatted with ease with BRYCE, ELISHA and GERMAN. I asked not to see anything in the theatre and they were so happy to accommodate which kept my fear and anxiety right down. I was so scared of being put to sleep, but a simple bit of medicine in the arm (which was put in so quick and painlessly) and then I felt my eyes heavy and they just a few seconds later BRYCE said to me ITS ALL DONE. Wow! All I can say is this is the place for you if you have a fear or worry about an oral surgery experience. It was quick, completely painless and most of all calm and light. No stress,pressure or worry placed on you. The venue is very nice and calming. It's not over clinical which can make me feel uncomfortable and like I'm in hospital. I've come back today for a checkup and my partner has come for a similar procedure! I cannot recommend this place enough. If I could award 10 stars for my experience I would. Let me start off by saying I had EXTREME anxiety about getting my wisdom teeth pulled. After putting it off for about 8 years, I knew I had to bite the bullet and go in after having severe pain in my jaw. Dr. Trujillo and his staff got me in for a consultation the next morning after I called, and squeezed me in that week for my surgery because they knew I needed it done ASAP. This office is BY FAR the most professional & comprehensive medical experience I have ever had. After my consult, both Dr. Trujillo and an assistant sat down with me to go over exactly what my options were, and what my insurance covered. I felt so confidant leaving his office that first day, and felt no need for a second opinion. On the day of getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled, I was so nervous, but everyone was so friendly and put me at ease. The only pain I felt from the procedure was a small prick to hook me into the IV, after that, I really don't remember anything. I can't believe how painless it was! They were done ahead of schedule and called my husband to have him come pick me up so I could be on my way. I have really (really really) small veins, and the prep his assistant took to make them as visible as possible (pumping a ball & using a heat compress) made this needle prick the most painless one I had ever had. Not even a phlebotomist has stuck a vein with the ease of Dr. Trujillo... In fact, I don't ever remember getting a successful stick on the first try until yesterday. I had my surgery yesterday, and am practically pain free! Bet Dental Experience till date. I went for wisdom Teeth extraction, all 4 in same sitting. I got quick same day appointment which is always great. Receptionist is very very helpful. She ordered a cab for me and also ordered my prescriptions at the pharmacy near my house. Dr. German is smart dude, keeps it to the point and have magic hands. I took general anesthesia and when I woke up, all Done. Best Part, I didn't have any pain after the surgery , not for single moment and I didn't have to take any pain killers. He did real good job considering my lower 2 teeth were coming horizontally and didn't even come out so he had to make a small incision. I would highly recommend this clinic for any Dental service they provide. They took my Aetna Insurance and I paid around $390 for all 4, not bad from what I know. read more

I had to have my wisdom teeth extracted....some 20 years ago. After postponing for years I finally have to had them come out. The office staff are efficient and friendly. I got my consultation and all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted the same day. I have very low tolerance for pain and the procedure was done under general anesthesia. I didn't feel a thing and was surprised when the procedure was over. It was my first procedure as I am pretty healthy and very very rarely visit doctors ( except for occasional physical). I was nervous and the staff was helpful in calming the nerves. I was given clear instructions. I am healing well. I have never written a review online before but I think it is a de-service if I don't write this review. I am a physician and I reviewed the service from an 'insider' point of view as well. I was referred to this practice when my dentist in Chula Vista realized my toothache was really 2 impacted wisdom teeth and they were infected and inflamed to such an extant that they could not be properly taken care of in her office. She knew it was a trek for me but she had nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Trujillos' practice - and she was absolutely correct that the longer drive was worth it. First off they accommodated my last minute appointment smoothly and with no long wait times. The doctor was very good at explaining to me the problem and all the different options we had to solve it. He was very transparent about the costs associated with each path I could choose. I didn't feel as if there were any games being played nor that I was being manipulated to choose a specific service. I was highly nervous as this was my first dental surgery as well as my first time being put under anesthesia but the process was smooth and took exactly as much time as was predicted. What really amazed me is that at 10AM this morning I had never heard of this practice but by 2 PM they had solved my medical problem entirely! My husband was referred to the office by his primary dental. Upon checking in, he provided his insurance card. After $125 out of his own pocket for the consultation and xray, he was provided with an itemized statement outlining the cost of the wisdom tooth extraction which we would have to pay out of pocket. I advised my husband that the charges seems high and he needs to confirm with the dental office and insurance company. After calling the insurance company, it turned out that the dental office was outside of the network which was not explained by his primary dental who referred us as well as the Pearlmax. Wow I can't believe it! I called to schedule an appointment regarding wisdom teeth removal, and they out me on hold. And so I waited on for them to tell me that they were real busy that they would call me back! I understand that they are busy, however, as a business owner myself, you do not talk to customers in that tone. He should have apologized for them not being able to schedule me at the moment. Rather than just saying "THEY ARE REAL BUSY RIGHT NOW, we will call you back" um ok? DONT EVEN BOTHER CALLING ME BACK BECAUSE I AINT GOING TO YOUR PRACTICE!
