Pearly Dental is Phenomenal! I have trusted Dr. Kataban's care for almost 5 years now and have always had exceptional care and results. I have had so many dental procedures in my life since a young age and my family has hereditarily bad teeth. I also had an accident where I knocked out my front teeth and got implants as a teenager. I have seen many dentists throughout the years. All of this has made me self-conscious at times and fearful of going to the dentist but now that fear is gone after Dr. Kataban and Dr. Patel's excellent care. While pearly Dental does a phenomenal job at cleanings, crowns and Invisalign, I have gone to them to be referred to other exceptional offices for procedures including implants, extractions and root canals. Pearly Dental always checks in on the results and final cosmetics. They are always very concerned about the health of your mouth and are incredibly knowledgeable. I'm always happy to see Christian when I walk in and the amazing staff. Sharon is awesome at the front office! She is knowledgeable and worked to get me in when I've had situations arise and is always very helpful and kind. I feel this office Has always been there for me and continues to impress me. I'm honestly taken aback by some of the grandiose and hyperbolic reviews for Dr. Morvarid Khatibian, so many calling her the "best dentist ever," "best in town," saying they'd drive an hour or fly back from another state, or describing Pearly Dental Care as "like a spa." It's just bizarre to me. Maybe some patients had complicated dental problems that other dentists couldn't address or she referred them to the right specialists, and genuinely made a huge difference for them. If so, I can understand the glowing reviews. Even though some were a little too enthusiastic....But some of these reviews describe routine checkups, cleanings, or fillings. Did she cure your cavity with a cleaning? lol. I chose this office because of all the glowing reviews and ended up severely disappointed. My experience was completely different. The care felt transactional to me and the treatment recommendations felt aggressive. She was the only dentist I've ever had who repeatedly told me I needed deep cleanings every three months. Deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing, is generally used to treat periodontal disease and is not the same as a normal preventive cleaning. I trusted her because she was the dentist. I brushed twice a day, flossed nightly, my gums almost never bled when flossing, and my teeth are naturally pretty white, yet somehow I constantly left feeling like I was doing a terrible job taking care of them. I felt like I was being treated as though I brushed once a week. Looking back, seemingly everything that was supposedly wrong with my teeth came with another procedure or product from the office. I don't remember much discussion about things I could do at home, alternatives, or simply monitoring something and reassessing it later. The final straw was when she recommended a Perio Tray that I remember costing around $1,000 out of pocket. I said, "I'll think about it," went home and researched it myself, and learned that it is a custom tray used to deliver medication into periodontal pockets. The device itself is FDA cleared, but even the American Academy of Periodontology notes that FDA clearance did not determine that any specific medication delivered through these trays is proven safe or effective for treating gum disease. I became concerned that I was being upsold an expensive adjunctive periodontal treatment that I had not been given enough information to believe I actually needed, so I never went back. What makes this even stranger to me is that no other dentists I've seen before her or after EVER recommended I needed a deep cleaning. Before agreeing to treatment, especially something expensive or nonurgent, say, "I'll think about it." Take your time, research what is being recommended, get a second opinion, and trust your gut. You can always call back and make the appointment later. Also, I find it odd that I couldn't find a single response from her to the critical Yelp reviews I read spanning roughly 10 years. The good: The interior of the shop is very small and compact. The space feels kind of like a mobile home when you walk through it but they made it work. I am new to the area and decided to try Pearly Dental because it was close to where I work. The dental office is small and while I was there played loud radio music that was mostly a stream of radio commercials. My dental hygienist was very young and inexperienced. Dr. Khatibian insisted that I get a crown and replace a filling that came out. In addition she said that I needed braces. I asked several follow up questions while in the dental chair. After several questions it was revealed that she was not able to explain how braces would fix my specific teeth issues. She seemed heavy handed and interested in pushing expensive procedures. I decided to seek another Dentist. I went to Reflections Dentistry nearby and the Dentist there said that he did not recommend a crown or work on the other tooth. He fixed my tooth that Dr K insisted needed a crown with a filling and left the other tooth alone and explained the reason for both. I left very satisfied and my teeth have had zero problems since. Plus, it saved me from a $1k dental bill from Pearly. read more

BEWARE "DEEP CLEANING" SCAM I cannot recommend Pearly Dental Care due to concerns about the integrity of the care provided by Dr. Khatibian. It appears she is subjecting her patients to unnecessary "deep clean" treatment recommendations, which is fraudulent and illegal. I visited Pearly Dental Care twice in 2022. During my first appointment, I wasn't seen by Dr. Khatibian. I was seen by a different dentist, who was kind, knowledgeable, thorough and professional. She took the time to assess my dental health, told me my teeth and gums looked great, and did not suggest any need for a "deep cleaning." On my second visit, however, I saw Dr. Khatibian (the dentist pictured in the Yelp photos). Initially, everything seemed fine, but during her examination, Dr. Khatibian measured my gum pockets at 4mm and 5mm and informed me that my gums were red, inflamed, and needed immediate deep cleaning. This surprised me, as my gums appeared pink and healthy, and I had never been told I needed a deep cleaning in the past. I've been regularly visiting dentists twice a year since I was young, and my gum pocket measurements have consistently been in the healthy range of 1-3mm. I felt uneasy about Dr. Khatibian's recommendation. Since then, I've seen a different dentist for three routine checkups. Each time, the new dentist has assured me that my gums and teeth are in excellent condition, showing no signs of inflammation or any need for a deep cleaning. Dr. Khatibian is creating fake data to justify unnecessary procedures, financially exploiting her patients, which is fraudulent and illegal! I recommend caution for anyone considering Pearly Dental Care and advise verifying any treatment recommendations. read more

I got a retainer with a tooth in it from Dr. Khatibian for $200 in March 2022; unfortunately, it had terrible quality. The retainer's edges broke after using it for only two months. I used to wear it only at nights!!! When I told her about the retainer's terrible quality, she said, "You told me you wanna do the implant sometime soon and that's the reason for the retainer's bad quality". I ended up returning the retainer to her and got my money back. Then I got another retainer with much better quality for only $100 from another doctor in San Jose. She is very rude and impolite with her patients. In addition, I got a tooth filling over there with another person and it was a disaster too. NOT at all recommended! read more

I hate when dentists don't properly communicate or don't care about discomfort during procedures. So, I did some yelp search before choosing to go to Pearly. My husband and I got deep cleaning done here recently. Annalese did our cleaning and we both felt quite comfortable getting it done. She ran us through every step of the procedure. So, no shockers after the cleaning. Staff are friendly. My only issue is that it is open only 4 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday) which is difficult to make appointments at comfortable time. Also, heads up that it is not possible to cancel on the same day of appointment due to any reason. No show charge is $50 per hour. Overall, 4 stars! Dr. Khatibian is super knowledgable in her field and tells me all I need to know about my teeth and the tips to improve my dental health. 2. These people are terrible!!! They did a root canal on my wife and didn't even pack it with stakes or take an x ray to make sure that they went all the way down into the gums. The temporary fillings have fallen out twice in 2 weeks, they filled the tooth with toilet paper and they gave some BS excuse for not finishing the crown. I gave them $600 for the root canal and they refuse to continue treatment supposedly because they want to do a deep cleaning and it's better if there isn't a crown. First of all, the crown protects the tooth from getting tartar on it. I'm having a rough time financially because I had to change jobs, but I make 95$ per hour. I can definitely afford the treatment, but these sick individuals would rather let the inside of my wife's tooth get infected than actually do their jobs because they want to get paid for the crown first. When I get my insurance on the 1st I'll be taking my wife to Dr Aaron Santos in Los Gatos. An amazing dentist who uses top of the line tools. Don't ever come here if you are an engineer. Dr. Khatibian is the best dentist that a person can ask for. I drive one hour to get to her office but it's totally worth it. She is extremely patient, listens carefully to all the requirements you have in your mind and puts lots of time to make sure she delivers what you want. I have high risk teeth and despite of the good care that I try to maintain, my teeth decay really fast. I had 4 dentists before and non of them gave me a solution for that.Dr. Khatibian was the first dentist that talked to me about the ways I should take care of my high risk teeth. She has done two perfect root canals on my teeth for which I didn't experience any discomfort. She also did an artistic work on my front teeth which were chipped, using composite veneer. She put lots of time on it and asked to see if I'm satisfied with the look at each step. She is really conservative and don't scratch too much of tooth when doing the composite. I totally recommend her for smile design. She is really gentle when she works on your teeth and her intelligence and experience makes it easy for her to diagnose the problem. I highly recommend her. I was looking for a dentist for my year-old child and found out about Pearly Dental Care and Dr. Khatibian from our neighbor. She and Anna were very gentle with my baby and gave her undivided attention to do an exam. My baby was squirmy, but Dr. Khatibian and Anna knew how to communicate with her to help her feel relaxed. Baby sat on my lap because she is a little. Dr. Khatibian asked questions on how I take care of teeth at home and gave more suggestions. Thankfully, my baby has no cavities and is at low-risk to have any at this time. Dr. Khatibian gave us suggestions on how to continue caring for baby's teeth including what to eat (cheese, fruits and vegetables are good!) and what to avoid (fruit juice, candy, etc...). I took my mom to Dr. Khatibian and was pretty surprised to see how calm she was during the procedure and how satisfied she was after her procedure since she is not the easiest patient! My family loves Dr. K. She is so sweet and so gentle. She takes her time and cleans her patients' teeth herself instead of handing everything over to a DA and then just popping in for a second.
