This place was recommended to me by my SO and I would like to pass it forward and recommend this place as well. I went to another dentist my entire life (until they retired), so I'm not sure how most offices work, but this one is pretty proactive about making sure your insurance aligns with their business, or helping you figure out what the copay will be. This is really helpful for me, who is not as on top of insurance as I probably will have to be in the future. Over the past year or so I've had many of my cavities fixed after a long struggle with an ED. They broke up the visits so only one part of my mouth was numb at a time. This is probably a good thing to avoid risking biting your tongue and cheeks and just amounts to less pain in general. They also use the tooth colored fillings so it's not super obvious where they are (Previously I've had grey fillings). Anyways, I feel cared for here, and my teeth are happy again. read more

I've been coming to About Smiles since I was maybe 5? We are family friends with Dr. Ashrani and Dr. Bansal, so I may be a bit biased. However, I have always had an amazing time at the dentist. Their staff are attentive and courteous at all times and it's always a pleasure having a conversation with them. As for service, they are methodical (as expected) and are quick with their work. Any procedure takes minimal time at no loss of quality of work - they know their stuff here. Regular cleanings take about 30 minutes and they usually explain to me what's going on or why they are doing this particular action. They also give other services like teeth whitening and what not, but they are never biased or pressure me into anything. I love coming here and I intend on coming here until I have no more teeth hah! read more

About Smiles Dental is amazing! I was looking for a new Dentist closer to home and from the great yelp reviews I decided to make my husband be the guinea pig and made him an appointment for a teeth cleaning. Now, keep in mind that my husband has a great fear of the dentist and haven't gone in years, but he came out very happy and couldn't stop praising everyone at About Smiles. Now it's my turn and I could say the same! Debra who helped me with paperwork, insurance, and questions is wonderful! She made me feel calm and welcome instead of transnational/cold like many dental offices. Dr. Ashrani and Dr. Bansal are kind and friendly. They take the time to explain every detail that they are doing which made me feel at ease while getting my teeth cleaned and filled for cavities. In between procedures they made sure to give me breaks because drilling/cleaning teeth can feel a little bit sensitive which I really appreciated. I have just come home from my latest appointment with About Smiles and even though during my appointment it was recommended that I have a molar removed, I still came home with a smile on my face. I realize that I will need numerous appointments to remove the old tooth and then eventually have a new tooth created, but I'm not worried about having the work done by About Smiles and the oral surgeon they recommended. I'll be in very good hands! If I had gotten this news in the years prior to finding About Smiles, I would now be in a panic, as I had been terrified about going to the dentist since I was little!! I haven't been to the dentist in a long time, I was soo scared to make the phone call and make an appointment. Clarissa the front desk is amazing!!! She's soo helpful, kind, just amazing with excellent customer service. From that first phone call I already felt welcomed. I was soo nervous and from that very first time I walked into the door, they already kindly greeted me by my name as if they knew me for a long time. The dr. Omg where do I even start. She's amazing! Both are amazing!!! They helped me soo much and made me feel soo comfortable from start to beginning. The assistants were very nice and professionals. LOVE these ladies! I have been taking my family to About Smiles for a little over 4 years now and wish I had found them sooner. Not only do they do an astounding job on my husband and I, but they truly go above and beyond for my 3 year old son, Nate. He has accompanied me to my 6 month cleaning and check-ups starting at approximately 18 months old at which time the staff began familiarizing him with everything that goes on in the dental chair. Today, Nate had 3 cavities filled, all with no fuss! The staff carefully explained each step in the process, showed him all the tools that they would be using, all in terms that he could understand. This place is awesome. They are very friendly. I went in for a root Canal and barely felt anything. When I did feel something they stopped and gave me more medicine for the pain. I have to say this place is all about the patient And not about the dollar. I would recommend this place to anybody. I am one of those guys that just don't go to the dentist. Even though it is a 30 minute drive here compared to the 5 minutes for my previous dentist, it is worth my time, and will be worth yours too. I moved back to Santa Cruz from out of state in 2007 and broke a tooth on a friday night. On Saturday morning, It hurt and was driving me crazy so I called every covered dentist in the area to no avail. Finally I called About Smiles. Not only did they squeeze me in as a new patient, it was a new patient on a SATURDAY! I had intended to use it as an emergency only situation but really fell in love with everyone there. We are now frequent patients (my children go as well). I have even raved about them enough that my sister goes to them too! One of the best things about them is they do the job right: I have had two problem teeth that have required multiple visits to other doctors. They have resolved those issues and taken care of everything else that I have ever needed help with. The only time I ever had something continue to bother me they were quick to rectify the problem without additional cost. In this day and age it seems hard to find practitioners who are competent AND caring. I greatly appreciate them. Today, my six year old and I had our teeth cleaned. Upon leaving, my son said "I love the dentist!" and I joked that neither of us actually wanted to leave. I am thrilled that my son has such a great experience with them since I know plenty of kids who dread the dentist. I can't imagine anyone having any problems here: I read the one star review and was shocked. From my 4 year relationship with them I can't imagine them being anything but wonderful. Service was okay. Administration part was horrible. The receptionist/office clerk does not know what she is doing or talking about. She'll say one thing then 20 minutes later contradict herself. They aren't accurate in their billing and do not do a thorough job checking for coverage, etc. If you want to be sure what you're going to pay, call your insurance YOURSELF first THEN check with them TWICE. I suggest getting it in writing as well. It's not worth the headache, I'd rather drive an extra 15 minutes to my old dentist. read more

What a great experience I had with Dr. Bansal here. I kind of had a bizarre week with my oral health. I'll make things short, I had strep throat that turned out to not be strep, just some infection. The infection some how triggered all kinds of canker sores on my gums, tongue, mouth, and affected my bottom wisdom teeth. My throat healed, but my wisdom teeth stayed inflamed, painful, & I hadn't eaten a meal in a week. Anywho.. I was desperate when I called at 7:30pm hoping to schedule something on my lunch the following day (I know, long shot). Initially, I spoke with Kim & asked if they were accepting new patients. She told me not until next year, so I thanked her and said I would try somewhere else. She then asked what was going on & I explained that my wisdom teeth were killing me and was hoping to schedule something tomorrow. She put me on hold and spoke with Dr. Bansal saying if I could be there at 11am. Unfortunately, I really couldn't be there at that time since I would be in a procedure during that time with MY doctor at work. Dr. Bansal made an exception for me and saw me at 12pm. I am very grateful because I know how it is in the medical field. I probably was scheduled during her lunch time and they really were fitting just ME in. Kim e-mailed me my paperwork so I didn't have to fill it out at the office. I came the next day on my lunch and it was obvious they really did fit me in that day. They were remodeling/ painting/ updating the place that day. The place is already very nice, but after my consultation we had a nice chat about how she wanted to modernize the place. Dr. Bansal was so kind & sincerely concerned about me. I ended up doing a Panoramic x-ray of my mouth since those teeth were coming out. She let me know that my insurance was not going to cover it, but the oral surgeon would need that type of radiograph for the surgery. She advised that it would more costly if I got it done at the surgeons place. Who knows if that's true or not, but I trusted her. She referred me to two places and called them to make sure they were open during the holiday week. She felt I needed to get these suckers out ASAP & I agree! I picked a place and they e-mailed my radiograph to them. I scheduled a teeth cleaning with them end of Jan after my extractions because my teeth have not been brushed very well since having these ulcers. I'm just hoping that I will be able to keep them as my main dentist since my husband is changing jobs end of the month & his insurance will change. Crossing my fingers for the best! Overall, My experience was great. Kim was so kind on the phone, Dr. Bansal was caring, and the girl in the front was very nice and personable. I will come back! read more

When work with their office you work the whole office, all three dentist reviewed and assisted with the decision process of my procedures. Now I leave the dental office feeling extremely important and glad to be alive. They have taken away the depressing experiences I had in the past!!! I leave feeling so good, and so well taken care of. They explained I had several options and presented me with three of the best options, none of which had the horrifying extreme front teeth crowns the other dentist recommended. They worked with my primary doctor and Protime Clinic (blood thickness control) doctors and staff. They are accomendating to my walker and my many questions. Every question answered is extremely important to them!! They explain everything they are going to do!! They assisted with billing information prior to all work done and all paperwork necessary through my attorney. The price they quoted was the end price. The price was half of what the other dentist quoted and even included three missing teeth replacements with a partial!! They made sure the new replacement of my broken front tooth crown matched perfectly (they called the maker and made sure of the match!) The filling to regain bottom of my front tooth as if it was never broken. They give personlized individual care, reminder calls, followup calls on how was I doing, and they even sent my daughter a thank you card. Through the procedures they used state of the art equipment, the photo imaging of dental work xrays. Each step is explain and show what they are going to do prior to doing anything.
