I don't think this is a gay bar. I been gay in Dallas for 10 years and known not one gay person to frequent here

However, when my friend had an urgent feminine-hygiene situation and needed my help, an employee suddenly made a loud, dramatic announcement to the entire bar that having more than one person in the restroom would result in immediate removal. We came out immediately and chose to leave on our own. We weren't being disruptive, disrespectful, or doing anything inappropriate--we were handling a private situation and minding our business. To be clear, we weren't embarrassed; we were embarrassed for them. The selective enforcement and unnecessary performance made it painfully obvious that we were being singled out. Then, as we were leaving, a clearly intoxicated patron started yelling, "He was talking about you," as if we had personally done something to him when we hadn't even interacted with him. We didn't care. Stay pressed. Apparently being young, attractive, and noticeable makes you a target here. If you don't fit in with their regular crowd, expect to be watched and treated differently. Horrible, unwelcoming experience. I absolutely do not recommend this place.

Tin Room is a dance club, but more so for the dancers there...while you can groove and bust a move, most of the dancing is done by the professionals here! And there are LOTS of them wandering around. Most are polite, friendly and engaging, but a few can get a bit pushy, especially as the night goes on. Nothing wild, just slightly off putting when interacting with them. This place, from inside to out, is not much to look at. The essence of a dive bar and the vibe of a gay club is the best way to describe it. It is dark, crowded, set with fog machines, lights and loud music. There are a few bars inside and one outside on the patio, which is where we got most of our drinks. The bartenders inside were a bit friendlier, but the convenience and the fresh air kept pushing us to the outside bar. With that, the drinks are strong and fairly priced, so there is that! Parking is very minimal, so definitely ride share. Overall, The Tin Room is an experience!

There was a not great drag show going on with a few onlookers downstairs. I checked upstairs because I love karaoke, but it was not great up there either. There are huge soft couches to sit in, which is awesome if you're there with a group. It's less awesome if you're there alone trying to socialize. There was nobody dancing. Maybe after the drag show finished some dancing happened. On the positive side, there were mostly women there. The $6 cover didn't bother me. If it keeps one of the very few lesbian bars out there open, then I'd pay double that. Next time I'm in Dallas, I'm going to give them another shot without as much pre-gaming.

And I had to try one of their famous coconut drinks, especially since the character Sue Ellen was a raging alcoholic on the Dallas TV show. I started laughing when I saw the big pink neon sign inside that says "i CAME in Sue Ellen's" that is hung on a wall with leaves that looks like a bush. And the place looks like a lot of fun with 2 floors, pool tables and a gigantic bar inside. There's a terrace outside where patrons can sit and to relax. I didn't try the food. After a couple of drinks at Sue Ellen's, you can always go and check out JR's upstairs.

It's very large being two stories with several rooms including the Rose Room Lounge which could almost be a separate club all by itself where they host all of their drag shows - lots of famous girls from RuPaul's drag race got their start there. There is a large outdoor deck upstairs as well as downstairs. Drinks are super cheap. This place is known as the "afties" bar because they are open until 4 AM though they will still stop serving alcohol at 2 AM The biggest downside is that they tend to charge a cover almost every night, which is pretty annoying, but I guess that's standard for Dallas.
