I was pretty intoxicated when I got to Sue Ellen's so I didn't stay too long. I might have stayed longer had there been more people. There was a not great drag show going on with a few onlookers downstairs. I checked upstairs because I love karaoke, but it was not great up there either. There are huge soft couches to sit in, which is awesome if you're there with a group. It's less awesome if you're there alone trying to socialize. There was nobody dancing. Maybe after the drag show finished some dancing happened. On the positive side, there were mostly women there. The $6 cover didn't bother me. If it keeps one of the very few lesbian bars out there open, then I'd pay double that. Next time I'm in Dallas, I'm going to give them another shot without as much pre-gaming. read more

For a visitor in Dallas like myself that's a fan of the old "Dallas" TV show, it's just fun to be able to visit a bar that's called "Sue Ellen's"... And I had to try one of their famous coconut drinks, especially since the character Sue Ellen was a raging alcoholic on the Dallas TV show. I started laughing when I saw the big pink neon sign inside that says "i CAME in Sue Ellen's" that is hung on a wall with leaves that looks like a bush. And the place looks like a lot of fun with 2 floors, pool tables and a gigantic bar inside. There's a terrace outside where patrons can sit and to relax. I didn't try the food. I absolutely loved it here!! I live in Houston and frequent another lesbian bar and I feel like the music at Sue Ellen's is better. The dance floor is smaller though because it's a sectioned off area apart from the rest of the space. There are two floors and multiple bars. There's also a balcony area with some outdoor seating and a giant jenga with Jagermeister facts on it. There are also some photo booths and pool tables. My wife stopped in here because she had never really been in a true lesbian bar. She was a little nervous as she is married to a woman but never really identified as a lesbian. First thing we noticed was that it's a really chill and light hearted place. Gay and lesbian bars can be fairly "pick up" oriented but I didn't get that vibe here. I'm sure it's there but it's not all up in your face. Trust me, I've been in fifty or so lesbian bars all over the world and some are rather unattractivly in your face about sex being the bottom line. This bar had a friendly atmosphere that I really enjoyed. The kind of place you could bring a girl and play board games etc. the service was fast and efficient and the drinks were very reasonably priced. My wife found a very attractive woman to take to and they even traded numbers. It was a huge turn on for to watch her flirting with another woman. We enjoyed our evening and only racked up an eighty dollar bill. I wish this bar or one like it was in Denver. We had Blush and Blue but it closed. Soooo sad. read more

It was a really good time definitely a lesbian bar which I loved!! The music was really good not too much house mostly hip hop and rnb mixes... which i like. The dance floor is kinda small but there is a up and down stairs... there was like a balcony where you could look down at the dance floor from the top level. The drinks were poured well and there had my favorite coconut 1800 which is sometimes hard to come by. My friends and I came to visit the gayborhood in Dallas. This is a pretty big place! A lot of room to roam around, people watch, and/or dance. It has an upstairs, karaoke, and outside patio. The bartenders made some pretty stiff drinks for us at decent prices. They also have popcorn! There is an admission fee, but I think it might depend on what time you go. I'm not sure if this place was so dead on a Friday night because we got there fairly early or because it was down pouring out... but there were only a handful of patrons here. We discovered Sue Ellen's during the Cedar Springs Wine Walk one month. It's a great little spot around the corner from JR's. The two actually have a lot in common from an atmosphere perspective, but Sue Ellen's tends to be a bit quieter. This bar is nicely laid out with several bar locations, plenty of seating, and a little outdoor area. Drinks are quality and well priced and the staff is always cool when we come in here. As an added bonus, they have Ski Ball! Enough said, right there. If you're out wandering around Cedar Springs, it's worth turning the corner and popping into Sue Ellen's for a drink and a game of Ski Ball. read more

Multiple complaints. I had three beers, and 2 shots on my tab by the end of the night on 11/18. This bill from sue ellens ended up being NINE separate charges totaling $290. These bartenders will run your card up if you give them your debit! Secondly, our 4.5 hour long night ended very badly. The bartender left my last beer unattended for too long and I was drugged. The last thing I remember from the bar was dancing. We ended up leaving and the next thing I remembered was waking up in jail from a DUI. I had THREE BEERS, my gf had two shots. I'm a veteran and I can handle beer easily. But whatever I was given in my drink, made be black out completely. I got in my vehicle and ran into a parked car because of it. Though it has been nice in the past, I was disappointed to find that upon our return a year later that the bartender with the white glasses cut us off when neither of us were especially intoxicated and had already spent an hour drinking water and soft drinks before ordering wine. We changed venues because another venue accused my femme gf of being straight even though I was right next to her and we are both of the female designation. We just wanted to have a moment of feeling at home with our people. The reason she gave was that we asked twice about the popcorn maker but there wasn't any new popcorn since the first time we asked so she decided we were too intoxicated for a wine after an hour. It just feels judgy and sad. It was a disappointing visit after coming all this way from rural Texas just to be with our people. It's nice this place exists. We came to this bar while my partner and I were visiting from Austin for her sister's birthday- my partner had just gotten kicked out of Bottled Blonde by the male staff for "not following dress code," and we immediately went to Sue Ellens afterward. I wanted to give this place 5 stars for the staff- we were harassed and had pictures taken of us without our permission by a couple, and the staff not only made the couple delete the pictures, but 2 of the staff members followed us out of the bar to apologize. It was such a sweet gesture, and that was the first time I've ever felt so safe and taken care of by bar staff. I can tell they truly want this to be a safe place where everyone feels welcome, and the gesture really touched my heart. I remember one of the staff members was named Hannah, and I can't remember the other person's name, but shoutout to them for being great humans. :) read more

Giving this 3 stars because it wasn't a very mixed crowd. The upstairs area was completely dead. The DJ downstairs only played hip hop and dance floor was pretty full. It just wasn't my scene. I feel like if the upstairs area played different music instead of similar, it could totally attract more people that like different music. It was no cover for me (over 21) and 5 dollars for her. Our team, The Cunning Linguists, won the triva with the prize being a free drink! Afterwards was the show. The host was Stephanie and she was HILARIOUS. The drinks were made very well and the outside patio was a great hangout spot. There is parking available beside and a few spots in front of the club. I have loved Sue's for a long time, and I agree with the other reviews: 1 - great lesbian scene, and 2 - your other gay/straight friends will like it too! That being said... It's hard for my gf and I to convince friends to come to Sue's because you are always charged a cover... WHY does the one lesbian bar/club in Dallas have to charge a cover?? Remove cover altogether or even just after midnight and you would get more people in the door! Sue's is only crowded these days for big events (Pride weekend, Halloween, New Years, etc.) and this may be why. Also - the DJ situation!!! So so bad.. I don't know how they haven't improved on this or don't recognize that it's a problem. Everyone is paying cover - that should pay for a good DJ! The music never matches the gay/lesbian scene (or even new popular music) and results in a dead dance floor pretty often. I promise there are DJ's out there who know how to play to this crowd - at least bring them in on the weekends! A lot of people come to dance! read more

When there's only one spot in Dallas for lezzies, it's an all or nothing thing. Either it's good or bad. Either you like it or you don't. Sue Ellen's makes the cut. There's lots of wiggle room in this two-story club and bar, which has pool tables, an outdoor patio (where you can get your smoke on if you need to) , three bar counters, a medium-sized dance floor that does the job, a lounge area upstairs and a soundproof room upstairs where live bands play. I don't necessarily think this place is for young partiers. The age range here is pretty wide, as is the lez-type. You've got your butches, your lipsticks, your soft studs, your femmes, and the list goes on. What's more, the vibe is so chill. You can come get a drink and dance, or watch people dance, or hang out and talk (which a lot of youngins actually do on the dance floor). You won't feel out of place, and that's what I love most about Sue's. I've gone dressed to the nines in a dress and heels and I've also gone in skinny jeans, a wonder-woman shirt, and sneakers and no one cares the lesser. The last couple times I went I decided to go during free cover, which is 9:30p-10p on Fridays and Saturdays, though Saturdays are the best nights to go. If you drive around long enough, you may get lucky and find a parking spot right in front, or a few blocks down and skip those paid parking lots. It will take about an hour or so before things get busy, especially on the dance floor, but the music is pretty good. Top 40 and some mixes as well as hip-hop on Fridays and Saturdays. Last two Saturdays I went a very few brave souls were gettin it on the dance floor, but things didn't heat up until they played the wobble song. I LOVE line dances at Sue's! So fun. Then everybody and they mama gets down! Yeah buddy! There are also drink specials between 9:30 and 10--$2 domestic longnecks and $4 wells. One of the bartenders is awesome, I wish I knew her name. I didn't know what I wanted to get once and she offered to make me something. So I got a sweet tropical drink with a punch of strength called Yo Mama. She's the only one who makes it, because when I returned the following week, no one else knew what I was talking about. :-) read more
