My wife has been seeing Michael for about a month and this is her first time going to physical therapy. I work with a lot of talented physical therapists, and my good friend and co-founder of Clinicient Jerry Henderson researched clinics in Portland to give my wife the recommendation of Portland Sports Medicine and Spine Physical Therapy. He chose them based on their background in the McKenzie spine techniques of manual therapy that are evidence based and provide results that have not only freed her from pain, but started the restoration of function after only a few visits. We have been elated with the results. From the initial experience of setting an appointment, to the reception by the front office staff, to the handling of our somewhat challenging insurance provider (United Healthcare), to the outcomes my wife has experienced, our experience has been nothing short of AMAZING. She injured her back and shoulder and was practically immobilized from the pain. She went to a chiropractor and massage therapists, and while those offered temporary relief from the pain, they did not address the core issues. Michael took the time to understand my wife's injury and did everything he could to fit her into a VERY busy schedule including making early morning appointments available and using his lunch break to treat her. He spends a full hour in hands on therapy and is focused on her goals and needs. This kind of service is rare in an era of declining reimbursement and insurance hassles. Michael is truly patient focused and skilled at what he does and the results speak to that. If you are having pain and think you have to live with it, think again! Find a therapist like Michael who is a true professional and focused on the needs of the client! This is the best experience ever and you won't regret it!

In my early 50's, and my feet have never bothered me except for two times: Once when I was 17 working in a warehouse, walking around on concrete all day in converse. Another time working a janitorial job in a school (20k steps a day) and again last summer working in a retail store (20k steps a day). By the end of the day I'd be hobbling when getting out of my car at the end of my shifts. I tried fancier shoes and some of those Dr. Scholls inserts, and they seemed to help very temporarily, but nothing lasting. Even saw my doctor who wasn't able to offer me much except a referral to PT and NSAIDs. I skipped it because I did that a few years earlier w/ a shoulder, and didn't have great luck. Decided to do a google maps search and see someone local who does nothing but feet, who could see the kind of feet that I have, and what I should do about them. Dr. Brandi was able to quickly assess and make recommendations followed up with an email with several links for shoes, slippers, sandals, and shoe inserts. I bought 3 of the inserts she recommended to use in shoes I currently have, plus a great pair of slip on house shoes, and now my feet feel amazing!!! I had been thinking about going to that good feet store they keep advertising on TV constantly and I'm so glad I didn't. This was the most affordable option by far.

After every appointment, she asked at the desk if she had any payment, expecting the co-pay when the person behind the desk told her they had a card on file and it would be billed for the co-pay. Fast forward a few weeks later and my wife is getting text messages from them demanding hundreds of dollars. We call and ask why and it appears our insurance denied the claims. I call up our insurance and they verify the Acupuncturist is covered just under a different tax id, so I give this information to the people running Acupuncture Center of Portland. They failed to fix the situation and continued harassing my wife over text to pay. At no time were we presented with an itemized list, only demands for abstract amounts over text messages. The most recent message told us if we paid in cash we could reduce the charges by a substantial amount, which is increasingly seeming like someone is trying to fraud us. At every point of the process this Center failed to communicate with the Acupuncturist, our health insurance, and denied any wrongdoing, pointing the finger at the insurance company. A woman I spoke with at the Center said the Center had failed to update the insurance with the Acupuncturist new tax id, but later denied any wrongdoing and told us it's our responsibility to make up the difference. This Center is an example of how American Healthcare is a complete travesty. Do not go here. The office is run horribly. There are other Acupuncture places you can go to in Portland that are run way more effectively and don't lie about the mistakes they made. You deserve a calm, rejuvenating acupuncture appointment and not to have to deal with the stress of more Medical debt. A medical office should bill insurance after every visit and check out people at the end of every visit so the person can know what they owe. At no point should a situation like this happen where someone is told they can go see someone in-network, after confirming with the medical facility and the insurance, then be billed for amounts well above the originally agreed upon co-pay. This Center is as unprofessional as it gets. Buyer beware.

This is my first Yelp review, and I hope it will help other Portlanders avoid what I've experienced…read morewith this provider. While he is capable of a friendly bedside manner, his host of administrative issues and ethically questionable billing practices negatively impacted me--and my health. I would advise others to seek another primary care provider. I scheduled a wellness visit with Shay (Dr. Hosseinion's first name) online a year ago after moving to Portland. During this first visit, we talked through my medical history and he also refilled two existing prescriptions from my prior MD. No physical exam beyond listening to heart/lungs. He wrote me a letter for my employer stating that he had seen me "for an annual wellness visit." Finally, he ordered a single blood test; I declined the standard panel. After the appointment, he billed my insurance company for $390. I wrote to ask about this--my last handful of wellness exams/physicals were covered at 100%--and he told me the care I received was defined as a "problem visit," offering to see me for a second visit to use the wellness exam benefit. I spoke with my insurance company, who confirmed the visit should have been billed as a wellness appointment plus an additional code for extra services. I contacted Shay's offsite billing office to request this change. I was willing to pay for the appointment, but believed it was billed improperly, resulting in an unfairly high balance left to me. It took one year of calls every month or two to get a response: No, he will not change the billing to include the wellness code or compromise on the balance. Why did it take so long to get a response? Per the billing office rep: "There's nothing we could do. We're not in his office. He's very hard to reach." In the meantime, I decided not to return for a second "wellness" visit, as Shay suggested, after my insurance company told me that getting lab results but billing for a wellness visit would be fraudulent. Instead, I waited a month, then requested a copy of my lab results three times in December. And again on Jan 4th. And again on Jan 10th. Finally, I called the lab, where a tech assured me the results were delivered to Shay in late November, less than 24 hours after the test. I sent Shay an email expressing my dismay at the wait; he did not apologize, but said they'd mail me a copy. I waited another couple weeks. When it didn't arrive, an assistant told me it was lost in the mail. I finally went to the office in person and got a paper copy. In the midst of this, the billing office told me part of the reason I wasn't receiving an invoice was because they had the wrong address on file for me - received from Shay's office (which had a copy of my driver's license). In any case, the labs showed a treatable medical issue -- something I would have liked to have known about ASAP. All told, it took me about two months to get that piece of paper. About six months later, and some eight months after the initial appointment, I got an email from Shay. He said he had my lab results and asked me to schedule an appointment. He said he found a problem in them. I would have appreciated more timely, accurate and honest communication from this physician and his assistant regarding billing and my lab results. I could have been informed during my visit that the wellness billing code would not be used in any way (using it plus another code could have, per the insurance company, mitigated some of the cost). Because such communication was lacking (and because this doctor wrote a letter to the opposite effect), I think some compromise on the final balance due would have been fair. Shay had paperwork explaining that refilling prescriptions could result in additional billing, but I could not have predicted that the entire visit would be coded to the maximum possible reimbursement. I think it is unfair to expect lay people to have this level of knowledge, particularly as there is a variance among providers in billing practices for these visits. At the least, I would have expected timely communication of my lab result. I would have begun taking a needed supplement months earlier if I had seen my lab results, and would have appreciated a simple acknowledgement that my health was comprised when I didn't receive it. For what it's worth, I paid my bill in full before submitting this review, and within days of hearing back from the billing office.

I go to a doctor to tell me things that I am not able to know without their help! But sometimes, it's about validating what I already know is true: When I wanted a prescription for a UTI, he reminded me that I already knew exactly what to do ( I am an herbalist)---and I confessed I was worried that I wouldn't be able to completely remedy it before traveling. SO he agreed to give me a prescription for an antibiotic for peace of mind, and guess what? It worked. I didn't need the antibiotics ultimately, but having his support helped me stay on the herbs and get better. As demonstrated in the above example, I have always felt that he listens very well to my concerns about any aspect of our visit, and modifies his approach if its appropriate, in regards to my feedback. The result is a feeling of a real collaborative partnership in my sense of health, my sense of well-being. He runs a unique, very small business, and is a unique thinker-healer-doctor-- which creates a different feel than a "typical" doctors office ( like him rolling up on his skateboard for our appointment! The best start to a visit!) but, despite some of the home-spun, DIY qualities, it has never lacked the overall professionalism of getting through all the steps of an appointment: From setting up appointment times, reminding, interpreting lab results, making decisions about what's next or referrals, paying co-pays and billing insurance---all has gone smoothly, and faster and less hassle/issues than I have had with any other medical office. He even was able to mail a prescription to me when I was far away from Portland, and needing his help---and FAST!
