Absolutely delicious restaurant off by Cambodia Town in Lowell MA. This was on my dad's bucket list, as he is Cambodian and had always wanted to have food in the city with the second largest Cambodian population, so we booked a trip all the way from MN! I can definitely say that our expectations were met. The Somlar Machu Yuon had the perfect amount of sweet, sour, and spiciness. and I especially loved the Tuk Prahok, we were able to customize our dish to have medium rare steak as well! Service was kind and friendly, and the ambiance matched. Nothing fancy, but thats not needed when the service and food are high quality. First time trying this place and I am impressed. I got the beef stew and it was a very large portion for just $18 and it was more meat, noodles, and vegetables than broth so it was very filling and worth it for the price. It was very savory and a little bit spicy but definitely manageable even for those who are not spice enthusiasts. Not sure why their rating is so low (maybe the service), but this was one of my favorite Cambodian restaurants when I visited Lowell. I came with no prior knowledge of what their best dishes were so I just randomly chose things. The Mee Sou with glass noodles was impressive. The broth was sprinkled with garlic and was so refreshing. The chicken was the biggest surprise; usually soups like these use shredded, almost dry pieces of chicken... Peephup's chicken was TENDER! Such high quality cooking techniques for such a humble bowl of noodles. But the star of the show here has to be the Lort Cha. Never had Lort Cha where the noodles were smoky from the Wok flame... again very high level cooking technique here. Not only that, the egg had the super crispy brown edges that I love when I eat a southeast asian fried egg. Every dish at this place took me by surprise so that's definitely worthy of a 5 star rating!! read more

First time trying Cambofoodo. We ordered the beef salad, which was sour and fragrant, and the nom bang jouk, which had good fish flavor in the soup. Overall, I was impressed by the freshness of the ingredients. We also shared a few appetizers. Good prices especially for the portion size -- we came hungry and ate a lot but still had leftovers to take home! We came on a Sunday and it was not busy at all. Very relaxed atmosphere. So first off, I'd like to say that I've had food from here several times throughout the years and have eaten there about the same amount. What I've noticed is that their sweet fish sauce is so good that it makes every dish that has it taste really good. Their papaya salad really leaves a big impression on me and actually is the best Khmer papaya salad out of all the Khmer restaurants in Lowell. Their kuyteav is not the best. But their soups and stews are pretty tasty. However, whenever I step inside, the atmosphere is so dead and I feel unwelcome. When I pick up food, I feel like just not happy. It's like the servers aren't putting their souls into the job anymore. The guy at the register usually tries to uplift a little, but it doesn't feel helpful when I feel like the females stare down at me all the time. Overall this place was great for takeout. The biggest win is we were able to order online. As you can see we ordered a lot of food. I alway try to takeout Cambodian food when we take a road trip this way. They have a big menu but we were able to try a lot of their foods. My personal favorites were, the fried fish and mango salad, pork rice porridge, nom bajok, beef skewers and the stir fry wide noodles. We opt for Peephuptmei for catering, as it is the easiest in the area to pick up catering from. The food is based on your preference of Khmer style food. It is their take on it. I personally enjoy it enough to order catering from here for our family parties to take the load off, and I would recommend the basics, chicken wings, meekathung, fried rice, beef sticks. The papaya salad is not to my preference, but that's because of my Laotian roots, but in a pinch, it will do! read more

I can't believe I haven't been to this restaurant before and with me living in Lowell now most of my life. We got the garden spring rolls, I had Tom Yum soup, my son got a beef/fried rice dish and his girlfriend had fried chicken with white rice. The price was a little higher than expected, but the portions were huge! We still have leftovers and we ate it not only for lunch yesterday, but dinner and I had it for lunch today. So overall, we spent about $100 including a $20 tip, but we ended up with 3 meals each. $10 for a tasty meal, I'll be back! read more

Fair Warning - I want to give this a 1 star, but because it's probably my own body, I'm going to be fair. I went here a few months ago and their water prompted a visit to the bathroom. This time around, I ordered the Mi Ca Tang and for some reason, right after I finished, I had to throw everything back up. The service is okay, you may have to raise your hand to get their attention. Back in the "hood" while here in New England on a visit. This restaurant had/has been a favorite (ate there at least a couple times a week for years when I lived in the area). Stopped by with four others on Monday for a late lunch. I was welcomed back like an old friend and that was great. My favorite servers remembered me as well and it was great to catch up on "family" things and share a few pictures. Apps were fresh spring rolls (nam chow) and fried eggrolls. We ordered fried chicken wings, but somehow they never got made but not a problem as we had way too much food anyway. Mains.... I had my standard pork "inside" yellow noodle soup . The "inside" refers to cooked organ meat being included as well. I went right into khmer mode and added my sirracihi, hoisin sauces with a splash of sugar to my soup! Shucky darn how I missed that soup. (Fried long bread to dip into soup as well). Other diners had beef luc luc , chicken luc luc and seafood white noodle soup. Decent amount of leftovers since the portions are large... but not for me, I slurped my soup down like a starving foodie. Sorry no pictures, was too busy eating and chatting.... Wish i could back once more time before I head back, but alas.... can't happen! read more

They have good flavors here, most of the time. I think it really depends on who they have cooking that day, but I usually get consistently good food on weekends. If I'm not getting one of the many noodle lunch options, I usually get the Somlaw Machu kreung, a lemongrass soup with copious amounts of beef, and the fish with young mango. I've found that I really do enjoy the Somlaw Machu here over all the other Cambodian restaurants in the area. There's a reason this place has been around as long as it has! Parking can be a pain, but you usually can find a spot at the liquor store across the street. read more

In town visiting my mom so we stopped by here for lunch since it's her favorite spot. It was Monday morning so it wasn't busy at all just one other family dining besides us. My mom was a regular and she's very familiar with the workers and owner so it felt like home. It was very early in the morning so some of the workers were dining along side us also. It would seem the dominant majority of negative reviews associated with this restaurant seem to come from butthurt hipsters, who were saddened by the lack of conversation from the waitresses regarding the local IPA selection. What to say about decor? Well the walls are painted in that special color that only exists in the tiles adorning your grandmothers bathroom , followed by the typical sun faded seen of far away mountains and flowing lakes. The food is great and portions are very large. It's a rather authentic experience consider that only locals frequent this place. For 16 dollars I was able to get a Thai ice tea , beef Loc Lac (with an extra fried egg) and a soup, seems like a really good deal. The only reason for four stars is due to the Thai ice tea containing some much condensed milk that I know require insulin shots. read more

Be adventurous and check them out. Beef loc lac hot stir fry beef with choice of rice traditionally served with onion and tomato. Fresh rolls and crispy egg rolls are delicious. I had a hot bowl of beef noodle Soup and all condiments are available table side. The menu is huge and everything cooked fresh to order and arrived hot with a smile to the table.
