Normally, I go to the Petes coffee in San Jose where I live, but I happen to be in Palo Alto yesterday and thought oh I'll get a coffee. I have never had such rude customer service from a Petes coffee shop anywhere. The girls working acted like we were bothering them. We never even heard a thank you. I asked for a napkin and you think I just killed her dog with the look she gave me. Then she points to a corner on the other end of the store and says they're over there. I think they need to get some serious training from other locations on how to smile and be friendly to your customers. read more

The only nit pick caveat I would say is that they left too much room where I didn't put anything about leaving room for milk or cream. I love Peet's, and my drink is almond milk lattes. Most days I do a mobile order and take my latte to go. Unfortunately, this store has given me an inferior product three different times in the recent past; apparently when they run out of almond milk, they go to Costco and buy whatever Costco sells. I leave the shop and when I try the drink, it tastes extremely strong and bitter--in a word, it's undrinkable and I throw it out. That's a waste of $6.50 and it is unacceptable. Peets Charleston, how about adjusting your order of almond milk so you don't keep running out. And PLEASE when you run out of almond milk just say you're out--do not pull a bait and switch. And while I'm at it, the team doesn't seem to have been trained to make the drinks with the care they used to have. A latte is not a layered drink. Thank you. read more

I never write reviews, but this shop has gotten so bad I HAD to share my experience and findings. I used to go to this Peet's for years, until recently in which I gradually decreased my visits over the last couple months and decided to stop coming due to their poor customer service, poor quality drinks, and a filthy store which I believe is majorly on the part of having poor management. On my last visit, I realized that the current team they have is completely different after years of them having the same recognizable faces, so I got curious and began speaking with a couple of the current employees about the changes, and apparently there's been a shift in management both in store and corporate that resulted in mass firings, mass quitting, and a decrease in customer service because 'no one is teaching them', as they said. It all makes sense now. It's disheartening to listen to them confess how a company that was once both customer and employee oriented has taken a turn for the worse due to lacking proper management and only caring about 'record profits'. Who is teaching the baristas? Who and where are the leaders? Where is an actual proper manager to uphold and conduct the business the way it was previously before the new management took over? I hope to see a change for the positive soon. Loyal customers will return if you properly train and maintain your team. Good luck to the employees! Management - get it together! read more

This was a treat that I thought about giving the staff, we went to get a hot chocolate and it turned out to be really bland , not too chocolates. Very sad that it wasn't chocolateyy. Last time we got our drinks it was amazing. Super chocolate and really tasty , did an ad shot, put $50 extra on my gift card and enjoyed the drink. No line they took Our order pretty fast , just super bummed about how much chocolate they used. A joy chocolate should have more chocolate than a normal drink, right? Next time I will ask for the extra pump of dark chocolate and hope that it all is tastier than this one. Tip; get hot chocolate with an added pump of dark chocolate, you most likely will be much happier. Much more satisfied than I was today. Very rude staff. Arguing with customers. Shouldn't be like that. If you had unhappy morning customers shouldn't get involved in. I scratched my Peet's gift card supposedly with 20$ on and it didn't go through. He starting accusing me those cards are not in sale any more and showing a different one. I always buy my Peet's cards from Costco and it was the first time frustration. I called the number at the bottom of the card and a representative kindly registered my card and I had 20$ on it. I was surprised they did not have any decaf brewed, but the girl was nice enough to brew me up a fresh cup within a couple minutes. I also noticed one of the workers was putting away all the left over pastries, and when I ordered one of them I was told the oven was already turned off. I have been coming to this Peet's coffee, ordering online before work. I always order the same drink. They have gotten my drink wrong several times when i pick it up. Everytime I tell them they look at me like it's my fault and they give me a smart remark like "I don't know how you were able to order it when we don't have vanilla available." Instead of "I'm sorry about that." There is no customer service and they make me feel like I am a bad person for telling them my drink wrong. I was also told by an employee to go somewhere else. I didn't do anything wrong. Just told them my drink was incorrect. I calles corporate and they say the same thing that they will "escalate" the situation. It's been 3 years and they still get my drink wrong and when i tell them they get mad at me and they don't care. I'm paying for a service and I have spent a lot of money ordering online. The road not taken. That is how I feel every time I visit Palo Alto. My home for a couple years after college, it is where I very well may have stayed if not for those outrageous housing prices. Since I have family in the area, I come to town a couple times a year, work out of my local office and wonder what could have been... My visit to Peet's felt very natural and they are conveniently located at the intersection of Middlefield and Charleston so it is the great spot to grab a drink on your way to work, school or whatever. I am literally in love with Peet's coffee! I cannot imagine her not being a part of my daily life. I give her loads of my money and there never seems to be enough of her around. Ha...yes I'm talking about coffee and not my love life. Peet's does not over-roast their primo beans unlike a particular gargantuan coffee franchise. Their beans have a rich, bold flavor that is as aromatic as it is creamy. Traditionally they have had only a dark roast coffee but recently they began offering a medium roast for those that cannot handle the bold flavor of their dark roast. I frequent a few different locations regularly and they consistently remember my name and my drink of choice. Superb product and warm personable service? Sign me up for a lifetime of commitment. Maybe at home on my computer I'll bother to find out what they were, but if you see this tangent then I probably didn't bother. Next time I tried a soy latte. I have never written a negative review on Yelp before but am compelled to today. On Saturday morning, I went into this Peet's and ordered a piece of pumpkin bread because it looked fresh in the display case and the piece in the case was a decent size, since I'm on a budget it looked affordable. When I got my order it was clear that they gave me an end piece that was not taken from the fresh loaf in the display but from somewhere else like maybe a day-old loaf. When I asked the shift leader why I was served this piece and that I couldn't afford to pay $3.75 for a small piece (looked like 1/2 the size of the one in the case) she basically rolled her eyes and said, "It's still pumpkin bread isn't it?" I've never experienced such a rude attitude from someone in a coffee shop. She didn't even try to apologize or explain why I was served that piece. She then said something like, "so what's the big deal?" to which I let her know that means I'm not coming back there again. Her reply was literally, "Well, you do you ma'am." I'm not sure why I was treated this way but I am never going back to this Peet's, and maybe any Peet's again. Peet's just lost a loyal customer and maybe some others who might read this. read more

Part of the weekday 9AM morning rush, I'd have to say that it's about a 40/60 chance that the line will be spiraling like a snail or that the line will be 2-3 people long. The staff are never short of super polite and take care of the store very attentively. Nice people work there. I'd give this Peet's 5 stars, except that sometimes I have to wait a while for my drink so they lose 1 star. But I do love the crowd of locals and their big dogs. That's right, big dogs.
