Beautiful pastries + a great weekend brunch spot! Parking is easy with free street parking or designated public parking nearby. Service was fast and efficient. Prices are definitely on the premium side. I recommend coming around 8-10 AM while the pastry selection is still fully stocked. I love Alexander's for its colorful, hand-decorated truffle collection with 25 flavors, ranging from classics like fleur de sel caramel to more unusual combinations like honey fennel pollen and hemp seed with almond praline. I especially like the Mountain View location because it has a more comprehensive menu, including weekend brunch and chef-driven specials. It's also open late on Fridays and Saturdays until 11 PM. The Cupertino location has a more limited selection and doesn't offer brunch. Recommended: pistachios and birthday cake macarons, plus the lemon yuzu and fleur de pistache small cakes. As a treat, I stopped in for croissants. Two were to be given to family members. One - the pistachio croissant I was going to eat in the patisserie. The staff member (an older woman) was very slowly moving to obtain my pastries. The other staff/barista seemed to be lethargic. At a table, when I bit into the pistachio croissant, I found the dense nut paste which was like Nutella consistency. Tasty! There weren't many layers of pastry inside! Where were the laminated layers? Of the two to go: I got a black sesame croissant which was cream-filled upon ordering and a mango sticky rice croissant. The staff member put these both in a tiny bag. I had to ask to have the mango sticky rice croissant placed in a box - not happy to do this. My family and I were visiting downtown mountain view today, and stopped by here after lunch. The pastries and coffee were very good and we were met with very pleasant service. 5/5 on that end. However, I overheard a bit of a disheartening interaction. A customer had asked why there was no more ice, and one of the employees responded in a very rude manner. He was an older white male, on the shorter end, and appeared to be a manager of some sort. The dessert was great, but if we were to potentially be served by someone like that, I'd rather not come back. read more

I had always wanted to try Alexander's Patisserie but every time I've walked in, I never saw anything that I wanted to lock in on. This changed when I found out that they started serving salt bread. I went in with high expectations, especially with the branding of this bakery. To order, you need to go on their website to designate a time for pick-up. The part that was not seamless was with the actual pick-up; they have a sign right when you walk in for pick-ups but none of the workers were paying attention to that area. After 5 minutes of waiting with zero eye contact or help from any of the workers, I went over to the cash register area and asked one of the workers who didn't seem to be occupied with anything. When I grabbed the bag from her, I immediately noticed that it wasn't warm or hot to the touch, which was a bit concerning. I got 2 of their garlic herb salt bread and was expecting them to be made-to-order, or at least warmed up, hence why there is a designated pick-up and mandatory mobile order process? I'm not sure if maybe they are supposed to be eaten cold, or if they required a heat-up, however there were no explicit instructions to do so if they should have been. In terms of the taste, it was fine, but just tasted like a cold buttery garlic bread. Nothing spectacular per se. I also ordered the white peach juice and although it was grabbed from the fridge, it leaned more on being lukewarm. It definitely tasted like it was made with real ingredients but I expected more of the white peach nectarine to peak through. Not worth it for the price imo ($6.50). Overall, the experience and service themselves would make me hesitant to come back. read more

I don't go seeking out dessert at all unless amongst friends. There are so many exquisite offerings to eat and drink. If you want a fancy coffee, pastry, dessert or more the upscale experience and quality is parallel to the "Alexander" brand of their steakhouses and seafood restaurant. These are some fine desserts and that Pistachio mousse was several layers of sumptuous sweet flavors. I'm glad to have shared it. Too rich for one to consume alone. I've been stuck at home with a bum leg for over a week, so I decided to treat myself to breakfast delivery from Alexander's Patisserie in downtown Mountain View, which I'd never tried before. I ordered an apple croissant, banana chocolate croissant, kouign-amann, baguette sandwich, and an iced mocha. It took a while for my breakfast to arrive. The iced mocha was warm because the ice had melted, but it was easy enough to fix with ice from my freezer. I'm pretty sure it had no coffee in it, just oat milk and hazelnut dark chocolate, which was perfect in my book. I drank it fast. It was my first time trying a kouign-amann, and I'm still not sure what all the fuss is about. After a couple of bites I moved on to the apple croissant, which had almond cream and a cinnamon apple compote in it. It was delicious, and I loved that it wasn't overly sweet. Next was the banana chocolate croissant. I was disappointed when I cut it in half and saw how little chocolate there was inside of it, but once I tasted it I realized it was just right. The bananas and almond cream were very, very sweet. It was scrumptious with powdered sugar and sliced almonds on top. Later in the day I tried the baguette sandwich, which had Brie, sliced apples, jambon, arugula, mustard, and garlic aioli on it. It was good at first, but then I had to remove the Brie because it overwhelmed the rest of the sandwich. The apple tasted great, but I pretty much love anything with apples on it. All in all it was an interesting breakfast and I'd gladly return to try more of their sandwiches and desserts. read more

Looking back, I reviewed the Cupertino location and gave them 3 stars and rate this location the same. A+ on the presentation, but the taste (ok) and high prices take off some points for me. Alexander's Patisserie sits on Castro Street where there are so many different restaurants and stores to explore so you can really make use of your time here. Once you step inside it feels like you're transported to a cute little Parisian patisserie. The interior is elegant and relaxing and the staff are friendly. We ordered the Fleur de Pistache and a mango pastry which I believe is called a Mango croissant but I honestly forgot (it may also be seasonal). Beautiful presentation so 10/10 for that. As for flavor the Fleur de Pistache was good - texture was great but I do wish it had a heavier pistachio flavor. The Mango croissant was crispy and fresh. Both items weren't overly sweet which is what I look for in pastries/desserts so I appreciate that. Got a box of half a dozen macaroons and they are very good. Also order a lavender-flavor tea. Both the lavender and tea flavor is very weak, almost tastes like water. Over the last few years, I've been here a few times whenever I'm in the area for work. Always found their matcha croissant to be delightful, but forgot to review AP whenever I stopped by back then. Well I came back last week after work on a particularly rough evening. It was my birthday and I was spending it alone in a hotel room since I'm from SoCal. And embarrassingly, I did end up admitting this to the person assisting me with picking a sweet treat for myself. He unquestioningly took it all in and started suggesting some sweets for me. I've been to Alexander's Patisserie multiple times over the years, it's definitely a hallmark of downtown Mountain View. They have pretty consistent quality when it comes to their pastries and drinks and it's a cute cafe. This was my first time doing their afternoon tea experience. In the bay area I'd say the price falls between mid-high compared to other places I've been. You have to make reservations on tock and pay ahead of time. We paid $167 after tax and gratuity for 2 people. Onto the experience... The presentation here is beautiful. Upon sitting down they keep a chest with samples of their teas so you can smell them. The tea quality here is actually much nicer than I expected. I absolutely loved their black tea with bergamot, the bergamot flavor was perfect. Our server brought out our tiered tower with treats and walked us through all of them. We liked everything, especially the pastries on top. The christmas tree mont blanc was my favorite! My only criticism was the lack of attentiveness from our waitress. She mentioned she would check on hs later so we could try other teas but she never did. Granted it was a little busy, but I got up and flagged her in the end. I would do tea here again, but it's definitely a splurge! read more

I got the black sesame croissant while my friend got the pistachio croissant for breakfast. Would definitely get the pistachio croissant again but would pass on the black sesame, though they were very generous with the sesame cream inside the pastry. They were unfortunately out of the rooibos tea that I ordered (I wish they told me before they charged me), so I got there tropical tea instead. I appreciated that the tea bag was compostable--yes, you can still have fancy tea still while prioritizing sustainable practices. I do wish they had some decaf black options. I came back in the afternoon to bring home some cakes. It was a noisy, and I had trouble hearing my friend who was right next to me. I had considered returning at some point for afternoon tea but now won't due to the noise. You may want to sit outside if you visit. One of the many shops on Castro Street, Alexander's Patisserie is a cute cafe and dessert shop. The interior is very minimalist and clean, catering to audiences that enjoy that vibe. In terms of food, I can't say I'm impressed - I ordered a simple oat milk latte and not only did it take over 15 minutes to get, there wasn't any effort put in the latte art - for almost $9, I would certainly expect a lot more. When I asked the worker for a to go cup, since it took so long to get, I was basically just thrown a cup and asked to do it myself. I get the staff may be overworked and understaffed, but it just rubbed me the wrong way especially since I had already tipped them too. I walked into this place and immediately felt fancier. Not only are the chairs made for comfort and elegance, but the sheer design of the room makes you feel like you're in luxury. The total came to about $40 which is egregious considering how bad everything was. The opera cake was sooo awful. I couldn't put my finger on it but it tasted like chocolate and bad fruit. The texture was mushy and it was the worst $15 I ever spent. The pistachio tiramisu was very confusing. The flavors were muddy and just unpleasant to eat. I couldn't finish it. Even the macaron was bad. It had the most artificial strawberry flavor in it like 1980s Halloween candy. It is a shame since everything is so beautifully decorated. It really felt like what you would see on a professional cooking show. The staff that cooks these cakes are extremely talented!! Exterior and interior is modern and sleek, which is nice. I originally came here specifically for their Matcha Croissant, but I noticed the Matcha Flat Croissant on their menu, so I ordered both to try. Their Matcha Croissant was decent, but I felt like it did not taste as fresh and the matcha ganache inside was good, just a bit on the bitter side and there was a bit too much of it that it was overpowering. Their Matcha Flat Croissant tasted dry and stale, and the matcha chocolate it was dipped in tasted more like chocolate than matcha. Overall, it was good to try one time, but I do not think I would be back for these items. read more
