Most of them had been there for years, and I looked forward to chatting and the great coffee they made. Today, the new staff was harried and their efforts uncoordinated. Decent stop for coffee and pastry. The staff were all friendly and professional. Everything was fast. I ordered an egg sandwich on an english muffin with turkey bacon and it was pretty good. Fast food, cafe style and we could see them take it out of the fridge, packaged up, and put in food warmer. So, definitely not homemade/fresh made, but freshly prepared anyway. It was good, and worth it. The chocolate croissant was very buttery to the point of almost feeling greasy. It was very sweet and chocolatey, though, and worth the calories. The coffee was ok. Pretty acidic for my taste, and a bit strong. Not too smooth. Not that great, just OK. Knowing I would not be finishing my coffee, I also got an iced tea to go, which was better than the coffee. I am not sure I would go back, especially since we discovered Tatte, which is close by and far above and beyond the quality here at Peet's. For a Peet's location, though, this one was ok. I actually had a weird and blatantly weird experience here. There were two young women working this morning as I stopped by to grab a Cafe. As i entered I went towards the restroom there was a white woman with child moving towards the restroom as well, in which i allowed her to proceed before me...I asked the server for the code and there was a delay and she spoke to the other young woman about me entering but when I told her there was a white woman and child she quickly gave her the code...That was weird..Then when I went to buy coffee and a Danish, I was told that they don't take $50.00 bills...I don't know but I felt like discrimination of treatment....Your feelings? Conveniently located for our walk to the office, Peet's is your typical coffee chain. Decent coffee and competitive prices for the area with your average offerings of defrosted pastries from the corporate distribution center. It is what it is and when you gotta have it, Peet's has a solution for you. Modern seating with generic music - similar to S***b*cks so nothing else to really review here. Peet's coffee as a franchise is average...not the best for any coffee connoisseur but gets you through if you need a quick caffeine shot. I would typically say 2-3 stars at best. But this location gets a four star!? Amazing service from dedicated staff who immediately make you feel welcome, have terrific personalities and are very professional even when it gets very crowded. The staff really need recognition and kudos to the owner or hiring manager...it's hard to find excellent staff and the owner has nailed it! Everyone deserves a raise here! read more

Great location, just a block from my office so today on way to work, I stopped by for Iced Coffee/Mocha. I usually go to Starbucks due to my loyalty to Seattle but sometimes, convenience wins one so as not prolonging out in Mauvais le temps!, windy in mid 20 to low 30 weather [not coffee] temp this AM! Anyway, Monica on the bar made an impression as she added whip on another customer's hot coffee, drawing a leaf impression with 9 fingers, 4 each on both sides of the stem and 1 pointy at top of the stem. My order of Iced Coffee was okay, still pales in comparison to you know, Starbucks, just a tad, probably an acquired taste issue... I don't know what it is because most of my colleagues prefer Peet's over bigger brand Starbucks. The staff in this location was very pleasant as in any other Peet's, and that could be the reason for drawing customers in, good service as oppose to [in]famously regarded brash -Bucks baristas. Still, I can only give a 3 star for coffee, for the ambience a 5 so rounding score to 4! For me, hospitality wins over food and drinks always! read more

I have mixed feelings about this Peet's. On the one hand, the staff has always been nice to me and helpful. On the other hand, the doors are super heavy and hard to maneuver as a disabled person -- especially when wind is a factor. There's usually ample seating at this Peet's. I come here to wait for my boyfriend to get out of work since I often get out of work before him and it's on my way home. Just like any coffee shop, this Peet's has people sitting with their laptops, people on first dates, people meeting with friends or colleagues, and people just hanging with themselves -- like I usually am. Demographics are pretty diverse as in most of DC. Plus -- I really, really love Peet's coffee. I usually get a caramel macchiato, either hot or iced depending on the weather and my mood. During the holidays, like right now, I go for the peppermint mocha. I'm not sure if I like Peet's peppermint mocha more than Starbucks', but it is always good. It's also in an excellent location a block away from Farragut square. You have Pret and Starbucks right across the street but this Peet's is probably superior to those since I strongly dislike Pret's coffee and Starbucks is just... Starbucks. You know? I work around the corner from this Peet's (there are a few of them). This place can make a decent chia tea latte (which is the only thing that I really like) the chia is not super sweet or too spicy. I prefer this place for coffee/tea drinks rather than Starbucks. I do think their baked goods are a little overpriced but they are okay, not great. Stick to just getting a drink. There are always people there, on their laptops, or meeting and stuff. This is a heavily trafficked area so its not a quite place to work. The morning lines are pretty long but they usually get people through the line pretty quickly. Getting your drink is another story, but its worth the time wait to get a quality drink i suppose. read more

I stopped by for a cup of coffee and to get some work done before a meeting at the Mayflower - I was very pleased! I love Peet's coffee in general and love that they serve coconut milk (I avoid dairy milk and hate almond/soy milk). I ordered an iced latte with coconut milk and a quiche. Both were excellent! The quiche was actually so good I was tempted to get another one, but I didn't :) I particularly love this location for a few reasons. First of all, the staff is so incredibly sweet! My cashier was the sweetest and so was my barista. The order was also ready very quickly! I love that there's plenty of seating! In an area where coffee shops tend to be on the smaller side, it was so nice to walk in and have plenty of options. I had gone in to get some work done so it was a wonderful bonus that they have free WiFi and also a few outlets around the seating area. read more

Visiting from Los Angeles where my Larchmont Blvd Peet's posse makes Everyone in the neighborhood feel like their family. They know my drink and my phone number and they always ask how I am. Now I am in Washington DC And I could see the orange umbrellas and the Peet's logo from the window at the mayflower hotel. I raced across the street to meet the lovely manager Mary and an awesome braided young woman behind the counter named Tamika. Ok the coffee here was like a 5+ stars, the lack of food selection and the somewhat confusing ordering process was like 3 stars, so this averages out to 4 stars. I was supposed to meet a friend for lunch mind you I'm not really sure if she eats lunch, considering when we worked together I hardly saw her actually go out or eat a proper lunch. She had suggested we meet here since I was in the area for a work meeting and her office was a few blocks down the street. Not knowing any better I was like sure. We go in and quickly realize the food selection here is even more scant than Starbucks. They have a few breakfast sandwiches, and a few baked goods but that's about it. I decide on coffee and a scone. This was after a somewhat confusing exchange on which cashier I was supposed to go to. The coffee was excellent, all they had was dark roast which I normally veer away from because of the bitter dark roast I've had at other coffee chains. OMG this coffee was amazing it seriously reminded me of great coffee I've had overseas where they grow coffee in country. The scone, was beyond dry and rather tasteless considering I got a pumpkin one. There's plenty of seating inside of here although the tables are a bit cramped. Overall a good experience but next time I'd stick to the coffee and don't think of coming here if you want a proper meal. read more

Peets was my favorite chain coffee house when I was in California, so I was pretty happy to see it in DC when I was visiting. This place is bad though... those of you from CA, don't expect the same experience. First of all, it is SLOW. I waited a good 10min (for 2 cappuccinos), and I was the first in line. Initially, the barista overpoured the milk/ foam into the cup, so it spilt out of the cup onto the table. So she had to start all over again (I was looking right at her, and she said something about the milk from that batch not being great anyway). Then she took forever to make the next 2. It was kind of ridiculous. The coffee tasted kind of burned as well. Definitely not as good as a west coast cup of Peets. Advice for management: train your staff how to make coffee! It's amateur hour in this store. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll go to Starbucks instead (I can't believe I just said that I'll choose Starbucks over Peets!) read more

I used to come in when it was Caribou Coffee but I thought I'd try it out since Groupon had a $5 for $10 deal. The inside layout didn't change all that much--it just has Peet's instead of Caribou. I didn't really care for their drinks (I have their Chai, Cinnamon Hazelnut latte and Pumpkin spiced latte). I had better at Pret a Manger. Also, it takes a while to get your drink. They have a promotion on Yelp where if you check in, you can get a $1.00 off holiday drinks. I did this but two out of the three baristas didn't know what I was talking about. Shouldn't all of their staff know about store promotions? I wouldn't say that the service was terrible but it wasn't great either. I doubt I'd come back to this location anytime soon. read more

I love this place-- I actually go here more than Starbucks, and I was a Starbucks junkie lol. But I'm a little confused. Whenever I order an iced matcha tea fog I get a matcha latte. Now, at first I thought it was the same thing. But they definitely don't taste the same. The tea fog has a more apparent honey and lemon taste... but these terms seem to be interchangeable. My ticket said "iced matcha latte" but the barista called out "matcha tea fog" I decided to check the menu. These are two different items. Great Location (Near the Farragut North Station) and near Bar Code. The only issue with this place as well as any other DC coffee place is the fact that it is really hard to find a place to sit. The coffee is okay. At least it is better than Starbucks, but I see it as coffee on par with Pret A Manger or Cosi. It is not top grade coffee, but it seems deeper than Starbucks. I usually come here and just order a drink and walk out. Lately, they are doing happy hour Javiva, which is good. I like getting the Matcha green tea without whipped cream (it is sweet enough). read more
