This review is for their on-site restaurant…read more I was lucky enough to be invited to Ferncroft Country Club for dinner Halloween Night. I never had the pleasure, so I jumped at the chance since my son is in college, and I don't seem to get a lot of trick-or-treaters in the city. Ferncroft is settled in what I would call a business-residential area, with beautiful homes, surroundings, and a stones throw away from Coco Key Resort. The road to get up to the main building was very dark, I am sure that is for a reason, but it was fitting for Halloween night I suppose. We pulled up and had our choice of spots. I figured there would be something going on but it seemed like just another night from the parking lot. When we entered, we were great with smiles and a roaring fire place. The smells from the kitchen already taking over my senses. I was in for a treat. The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, helpful, and presented the specials well. Dinning room is small but that's okay because you can enjoy all the ambience it has to offer. After ordering a few drinks, my friend and I dove right in. Sliders and nachos to start and two mixed grilled plates for dinner. We finished that off with slices of Sweet Potato Maple cheesecake and Chocolate Fudge cake. Of course Sugerman had coffee as well. Appetizers 4 out 5 - The SLIDERS! I was advised by my friend we should order these. They didn't disappoint. Juicy, flavorful, and served with warm fries. You could even order this for your entree. The kid in you will love these, and so will the adult. The nachos were good. On par with most places but nothing special. Entrees 5 out 5 - Now I know we both ordered the mixed grill, but we both had the same feelings. The sausage was grilled to perfection, the chicken was super flavorful, and the steak tips melted in my mouth. Choose a side and you can't go wrong. And for the price, about $15 a plate, we were completely satisfied. Desserts 5 out 5 - My buddy was in a chocolate coma. The cake was rich and moist. The only problem with my Sweet Potato Maple cheesecake is I couldn't slow myself down to enjoy it longer. The house coffee was excellent, which I would "roast" them for (pun intended) for not caring about the little things. It was a perfect way to end the meal. Service 4 out 5 - Most of all the staff was warm and friendly, and out waitress certainly was. Plates were cleared and new silverware placed promptly. So if you ever get the opportunity to eat here with a member, cancel your plans and go early to view the local colors and scenery.

Someone that works there had walked past us several times, and opened the door. We wandered in, and she said the restaurant was in the basement. When we left, we saw a sign for Cellar. Not knowing the restaurant was named the Cellar, the sign wasn't clear/meaningful. Anyway, we got there eventually. The decor was pretty nice (definitely more bar than restaurant). We chose a table in a quiet corner, which was beneficial and not. The wait staff was very friendly, but we were a bit out of sight out of mind for them. All the food was great, and the cocktail was expertly made, exceeding expectations. They have popovers as the table accoutrements, which are a personal favorite of mine! As mentioned above, I'd consider this a (speakeasy decor) bar with food options, that would be a solid social/meet up spot, with great drinks.

She and much of my family really like this place and rave about it, but my overall first impression was definitely a mixed bag. My mom made the reservation for Saturday at 4:45pm in the dining room. We arrived a little early, so she showed me around the beautifully renovated building. When we checked in with someone, they redirected us to the bar area downstairs as they were holding a private event in the main dining area. Okay, not a big deal to us. However I could understand if someone else might get a little annoyed at being told they had to go to the bar area when they specifically asked for the dining room on their reservation. I have to say that I do love the downstairs bar area, it's classy and has a vintage speakeasy vibe. We were quickly greeted by one of the guys working the bar who was super nice and did a great job. For a drink I started with their version of an espresso martini, which was a good start to the food experience and gave me high hopes. They brought us out some popovers which to me were just okay. For an appetizer we got some buffalo chicken dip, which was quite delicious. For dinner my mom got a Caesar salad (which I tried a little bit of and thought was good) and a flatbread pizza that was on special. I decided to be a little bougie and went with the braised short ribs, and I regret to say that the dish fell flat for me. The short rib did come apart okay when I stuck my fork in it, but it was kind of chewy, bland and overall really didn't have much flavor. The menu also states that the short rib is served with broccolini (which is a milder, sweeter version of the green vegetable) but it came with regular plain broccoli instead, which I was also quite honestly disappointed by. With all that being said the polenta was my favorite thing on the plate. I'm a little conflicted. The place is beautiful and the staff is so nice. But with how much it was hyped up to me, I was a little let down. I'm kind of thinking that I should've went with another dish? I really want to truly love this place, so I'm sure I'll be back with family at some point to give them another chance.

DoubleTree Northshore isn't a bad pick IF and only IF you get a good deal for it. If you pay full…read moreprice, I reckon it's not worth it. The staff is nice and they do their job. The hotel however is very old and has lots of not-so-enjoyable quirks as a result... While our room was clean for the most part, the shower was difficult to operate (defective more like) and the showerhead had mold growing on it. The bed sheets were clean EXCEPT for that one corner with a smear of something red (blood? raspberry jam? take your pick!) and the bed itself was so soft I thought it would swallow me whole. I could barely move. The pillows were soft beyond what's reasonable for a human head. Noise from other hotel guests was by far the biggest issue. Paper thin walls meant I could hear the TV and guests speaking next door. Across the hallway, another guest was playing music SO loud that hotel staff came to knock on his door to warn him to keep it down. They had to knock 10 times for the guy to hear them and answer the door. Gives you an idea! At least the staff was proactive... Oh did I mention there's a crack under the room door that is almost an inch high? All sounds from the hallway will echo inside your room as a result. Nice... said no one ever. So, as I said in my intro, if you get a good deal like we did, all these issues might be worth putting up with. Otherwise, stay away if you value good sleep.

This place is a complete dump. The people at the check in desk were polite, but that's the only…read morepositive I am going to highlight. Right when you self-park, the lot near the waterpark is riddled with feet-deep potholes. They don't even care to maintain their parking lot, and they have the audacity to ask you to pay $10 to park in this unmonitored, unmaintained lot. Ridiculous. I booked a waterpark package for 1 night. I am an Honors member, so I checked in on the app at 2:30pm. My room was assigned but not ready, so I checked with the desk to see if we could use the waterpark while we waited. They said yes and that our room would be ready in about 30 minutes. We headed to the waterpark. The waterpark is filthy. Trash is floating in the lazy river and is everywhere in the facades throughout the park. It's dusty everywhere and the chlorine in the air made our eyes burn. The floor is dark and grimey and clearly has not been maintained in years. I kept stepping on a weave at the bottom of the pool with the basketball hoops. Lifeguards are apathetic, at best. There is no order to anything, it's basically a free for all with no one monitoring the poor behavior of patrons or the safe execution of the 1 or 2 slides in working order. We are actually grossed out by the entire waterpark, of which nearly all attraction slides are unavailable, so we decide to dry off and just wait for our room. 4pm comes and goes so I go back to the front desk. They say the app "didn't go through" (what? I had a room number assigned) and that I have a new room, which is ready now, what a coincidence! We go up and it is not very clean, but the beds are clean and have new sheets, so we just dealt with it because it's getting late. There was an old string cheese, an empty drink bottle, used starbucks straws, old yogurt in the fridge, dust everywhere, old ungrounded plugs for the not plugged in lamps and it appeared as though the rooms haven't seen an update in 20+ years. Not pictured is the half paint-covered green gummy bear that fell from the ceiling shortly before we checked out. The waterpark and all other fun things, close at 6 to 7pm. What is the point of these amenities. I hate to compare anything to Great Wolf Lodge, which is a literal money pit, but it is like the Ritz Carlton compared to this place. Do not go, it's worse than any other Hilton property I've ever visited. I called Hilton directly because I felt so strongly about this place and regretted not having the time to tell them in person. I was on hold for 30 minutes after the customer service desk sent me to the property's manager. They didn't pick up.

Storytimes, playground with views of the animals, a hayride, and more! I highly recommend the storytime. The playground was fun for my 2 year old son and 7 year old daughter, but best for the 1.5-6 age range. There are rest rooms beside the farm store, but they're medal toilets with no seats, so my daughter refused to use them. (I don't blame her.) That's the only thing that kept this from a 5 star experience. We'll be back soon. Worth the hour drive from where we live on the south shore.
